A Study on the Dynamic Characteristics of the Gas Spring on the Automotive Application (차량 장착상태에서의 가스 스프링 동적 특성 연구)

  • Unlike a typical metal spring, a gas spring uses compressed gas contained in a cylinder and compressed by a piston to exert a force. A common application includes automobiles where gas spring are incorporated into the design of open struts that support the weight of tail gate. They are also used in furniture such as office chairs, and in medical and aerospace applications. The gas spring works by the application of pressurized gas (nitrogen) contained in a cylinder. The internal pressure of the gas spring greatly exceeds atmospheric pressure. This differential in pressure exists at any rod position and generates an outward force on the rod, making the gas spring extend. In this paper, we investigated the dynamic characteristics of a gas spring on an automotive tail gate system.

  • Zone 3 of the distance relay is used to provide the remote back-up protection in case of the failure of the primary protection. However, the risk lot mal-operations under stressed conditions such as heavy loading, voltage and transient instability is usually high. Zone 3 is used in combination with the derivatives of the voltage, and current, etc to prevent mal-operations. Sometimes, the impedance characteristics that restrict the tripping area of relay are used to avoid the mal-operations due to load encroachment. This paper presents a novel Zone 3 scheme based on combining the steady-state components (i.e. 60Hz) and the transient components (TCs) using a state diagram that visualizes the sequence of studies that emanate from the sequence of events. The simulation results show that the novel zone 3 distance relay elements using the proposed method operates correctly for the various events.

  • The purpose of this study is to predict the forming limit diagram (FLD) of strain-rate sensitive materials on the basis of the Marciniak and Kuczynski (M-K) theory. The strain-rate effect is taken into consideration in such a way that the stress-strain curves for various strain-rates are inputted into the formulation as point data, not as curve-fitted models such as power function. To solve the nonlinear system of equations derived from the equilibrium and constraints in the groove region and the safe zone, the Newton-Raphson method is used. The theoretical FLDs using four different yield criteria, that are von Mises, Hill (1948), Hill (1979), Logan and Hosford, are compared with the experimental, numerical (FEA) and other theoretical results. A new trial is made where a modified M-K model having n-step grooves is introduced to describe a real localized neck.

  • Due to the changes of marine transportation industry, it requires ship in larger scale and high speed. In order to operate efficiently, the engine should be work in high power and high horse power. The increase of the number of the propeller blades and the pitch of the screw and the weight, vibration of shafting problems occurs. To evaluate the safety of the system through analyzing the dynamic characteristics propulsion shafting system, was used to prove or to verify the Lalanne & Ferraris model validation.. It indicates that the Program through Campbell diagram and Critical speed map, Root rocus map, to ensure the reliability of the experimental model.

A Study on the Characteristics of Heat Treated ERW Weld Seam and the Technology of Seam Annealing (고장력 강재의 전기저항 용접부 열처리 특성 및 기술에 대한 연구)

  • To fine seam annealer capacity of through thickness seam annealing in terms of through thickness microstructure change with increased toughness and elongation leaving heat trace on it, high strength steel pipes of ERW with different thickness were tested in different seam annealing temperature measured on the outer surface of pipes. Annealing temperature and microstructure of the weld seam were changed through applied seam annealing condition. Toughness and tensile test with hardness and microstructure analysis were done on the annealed weld seam to fine its characteristics as a primary step and annealing characteristics according to different seam annealing condition. Through a study of annealed ERW weld seam characteristics and seam annealing technology, amount of electric power should apply in decreased manner to arranged inductors of annealer in the order of 1st, 2nd, 3rd, so on for proper seam annealing. For example of 15.4mm thick and 610mm outside diameter pipe, applied power for proper seam annealing is 600 -650kw at 1st inductor, 450 - 500kw at 2nd inductor, 200-250 kw at 3rd inductor of annealer during 10 - 12M/minute moving speed of pipe. Also, the penetration depth of heat trace along the thickness direction of weld during seam annealing can be estimated through the equation 17mm/kv$\times$voltage(kv) with the microstructure and hardness analysis of thick weld seam as well as study of seam annealing and comparison of cooling condition to CCT diagram of low carbon high strength steel. From this result, the difference between the technological applicability of full annealing condition based on phase diagram and full penetration of heat trace based on CCT diagram along the thickness of weld seam is discussed.

  • Electrical energy supply interruption degrades reliability of power supply as well as social costs and economic loss. It is important to assess the reliability of the power system. Nowadays IEC61850 based substation automation system(SAS) has been developed for an updating of automation and interoperability. In this study, three kinds of reliability block diagram(RBD) were proposed to examine of network availability of the three types SAS. And reliability and unreliability of the SAS was formulated using the RBD. Finally, while varying the value of reliability and unreliability, the reliability and the unreliability of the overall system were evaluated.

  • Because of being operated to accomodate the load variation, fossile power plants need modern controller to satisfy frequency regulation, fast response and efficiency requirement. But in the way of developing the Digital Instrumentation and Control System that can adopt advanced control algorithms, power plant simulator must be available for safe and convenient test. In this paper, a simple drum-type boiler model is proposed, using Signal Flow Diagram that describes the system by a collection of basic time response representing the relationship between process variables. After verifying the model and thereafter building simulator based on the proposed model, we test the operation of controller and approve stability or efficiency of implemented control algorithms.

  • Very Fast Transients (VFT) originate mainly from disconnector switching operations in Gas Insulated Substations (GIS). In order to determine the rate-of-rise of Very Fast Transient Overvoltage (VFTO) in a 550 kV GIS, simulations are carried out using EMTP-RV. Each component of the GIS is modeled by distributed line model and lumped model based on equivalent circuits. The various switching conditions according to closing point-on-wave and trapped charge are simulated, and the results are analyzed. Also, the analysis of travelling wave using a lattice diagram is conducted to verify the simulation results.

The Behavior of Shrinkage on PMMA in Injection Molding Compression Molding (사출압축성형시 PMMA 재료의 성형수축거동)

  • Molding shrinkage is one of the problems to be solved in conventional injection molding. Despite many trying-out has been to solve it, intrinsic cause of shrinkage such as orientation and thermal exchange between melt and mold has not been solved yet. For reducing shrinkage and residual stress on molding, injection compression molding process was invented. In this study, experiments about effects of injection compression molding's parameters on shrinkage of PMMA molding were conducted and compared with conventional injection molding's shrinkage. Before the injection compression molding experiment, molding shrinkage rate was predicted by analyzing pvT diagram and was compared with the results of experiment. The shrinkage rate of injection compression molding was lower than convention injection molding's one which was different from the predicted shrinkage. The reason was observed that the experimental mold was not a proper type for injection compression, flowing backward of melt into nozzle and unreasonable mechanism of injection molding machine.

  • In many case of optimal design and sensitivity analysis, obtaining of transfer function between input and output variables is a difficult and time-consuming problem. The bond graph modeling is a method that is used for making it easy to analyze complex systems composed of mechanical and electrical parts. It gives us a simple and systematic tool to get state-space equations easily. And we can obtain the transfer function graphically using bond graph and Mason's rule. This paper shows how bond graphs are converted to block diagram and how Mason's rule is applied. And the simple direct method to obtain transfer function from bond graph is introduced. As a example, induction of transfer function of electric power steering composed of mechanical and electrical parts will be done.
