To improve the performance of plasma-DeNOx catalyst, a research on active system was performed experimentally. Two hydrocarbons, propane and diesel, were used as a reductant in this study. First, using propane, basic performances of plasma-DeNOx catalyst such as the effects of plasma and C/N ratio were measured at the various engine operating conditions. NOx conversion of catalyst was improved as plasma power or C/N ratio was increased. Next, diesel was injected in the exhaust gas flow as a reductant. The first test using diesel as a reductant is spray visualization in a high temperature flow and spray images were utilized for analysis of posterior test results. To evaluate the effect of an injection direction, it was compared with 6 installation methods of diesel injector due to THC concentrations at the inlet of plasma. From the results, injector was installed toward downstream direction below the pipe. Then, basic performances of plasma-DeNOx catalyst with various injection quantities were measured. As an injection quantity was increased, $NO_2$ conversion of plasma reactor was increased but NOx conversion of catalyst was nearly zero. This was because NOx conversion of catalyst had slowed as time goes by due to black particles which had been adhered to the catalyst.
Power conversion system must be increased switching frequency in order to achieve a small size, a light weight and a low noise. However, the switches of converter are subjected to high switching power losses and switching stresses. As a result of those, the power system brings on a low efficiency. To improved these, a large number of soft switching topologies included a resonant circuit has been prosed. But these circuits increase number of switch in circuit and complicate sequence of switching operation. In this paper, the authors propose a high power factor and high efficiency DC-DC converter using single-pulse soft switching by partial resonant switching node. The switching devices in a prosed circuit are operated with soft switching by the partial resonant method, that is, Partial Resonant Switch Mode Power Converter. The partial resonant circuit makes use of a inductor using step up and a condenser of loss-less snubber. The result is that the switching loss is very low and the efficiency of system is high. Also the proposed converter is deemed the most suitable for high power applications where the power switching devices are used. Some simulative results on computer results are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.
By combining a wind turbine with an energy storage system (ESS), we are able to attenuate the intermittent wind power characteristic making the power derived from a wind farm dispatchable. This paper evaluates the influence of the phase delay of the low-pass filter in the conventional smoothing power control on the ESS capacity; longer phase delays require a larger ESS capacity. In order to eliminate the effect of the phase delay, we optimize the power dispatch using a zero-phase low-pass filter that results in a non-delayed response in the power dispatch. The proposed power dispatching method significantly minimizes the ESS capacity. In addition, the zero-phase low-pass filter, which is a symmetrical forward-reverse finite impulse response type, is designed simply with a small number of coefficients. Therefore, the proposed dispatching method is not only optimal, but can also be feasibly applied to real wind farms. The efficacy of the proposed dispatching method is verified by integrating a 3 MW wind turbine into the grid using wind data measured on Jeju Island.
Recently, the interest in DC systems to achieve more efficient connection with renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, and DC loads has been growing extensively. DC systems are more advantageous than AC systems because of their low conversion losses. However, the DC-link voltage is variable during operation because of different random effects. This study focuses on DC voltage stabilization applied in stand-alone DC microgrids by means of voltage ranges, power management, and coordination scheme. The quality and stability of the entire system are improved by keeping the voltage within acceptable limits. In terms of optimized control, the maximum power should be tracked from renewable resources during different operating modes of the system. The ESS and VSDG cover the power shortage after all available renewable energy is consumed. Keeping the state of charge of the ESS within the allowed bands is the key role of the control system. Load shedding or power generation curtailment should automatically occur if the maximum tolerable voltage variation is exceeded. PSIM-based simulation results are presented to evaluate the performance of the proposed control measures.

This paper analysis the transient performance of the modified excitation system using 4-quadrant chopper for a synchronous machine connected to HVDC system. Conventionally, capacitors are used to supply reactive power requirement at a strong converter bus. And the installation of a synchronous machine is essential in an isolated weak network to re-start after a shutdown of HVDC and to increase the system strength. However, a conventional static excitation system has some problems which are harmonic instability and the system stress due to overvoltage. To reduce these problems, the new excitation system, which has 4-quadrant chopper, is proposed. As the proposed system provides the capability to allow reverse current and isolate between AC network and excitation power, problems of overvoltage and harmonic instability can be solved. The investigation is performed and confirmed by the time domain digital simulation using PSCAD/EMTDC program.
