  • Antimutagenic effects of 5 kinds of kochujang(Korean red pepper soybean paste) samples compared with doenjang(Korean soy paste) were studied using the Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium TA100 and the SOS chromotest, with E. Coli PQ37. Th eantimutatenic effects of methanol extracts from red pepper powder and meju(fermented soybean) powder, the major ingredients of the kochujang, were also evaluated for the mutagenicity of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in the Ames assay. The methanol extracts from the kochujang samples showed lower antimutagenicities than those of doenjang against AFB1 and N-methyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (MNNG) in the Ames assay. Traditional kochujang I and II exhibited strong antimutagenic activity against AFB1 and MNNG. The traditional kochujang samples against MNNG were aslo observed in the SOS chromotest system with the same fashions as shown in the Ames mutagenicity test. The methanol extracts from meju powder had the strongest inhibitory effects on mutabenicity induced by AFB1, however, those form red pepper powder showed lower inhibition rate than kochujang. These results suggest that traditional kochujang exhibit higher antimutagenic acitivity than the commercial variety, and that meju powder seems to be one of the major antimutagenic components in kochujang.

  • Solder paste is widely used as a conductive adhesive in the electronics industry. In this paper, nano and microsized mixed lead-free solder powder (Sn-Ag-Cu) is used to manufacture solder paste. The purpose of this paper is to improve the storage stability using different types of solvents that are used in fabricating the solder paste. If a solvent of sole acetate is used, the nano sized solder powder and organic acid react and form a Sn-Ag-Cu malonate. These formed malonates create fatty acid soaps. The fatty acid soaps absorb the solvents and while the viscosity of the solder paste rises, the storage stability and reliability decrease. When ethylene glycol, a dihydric alcohol, is used the fatty acid soaps and ethylene glycol react, preventing the further creation of the fatty acid soaps. The prevention of gelation results in an improvement in the solder paste storage ability.

  • This study was conducted to develop a recipe for a nutritional cookie containing Danggue powder, and to achieve an optimal ingredient composition and texture that would appeal to consumers of all ages. To reduce its content, wheat flour was partially substituted with Danggue in the formulation. Response surface methodology was used to analyze the measured results and showed 16 experimental points, including 2 replicates for the Danggue powder, brown sugar, and butter ingredients. The compositional and functional properties were measured, and these values were applied to a mathematical model. A canonical form and perturbation plot showed the influence of each ingredient on the final product. The sensory evaluation results indicated significant differences between samples for color (p<0.01), flavor (p<0.01), texture (p<0.05), and overall quality (p<0.05). As a result, the optimal ingredient levels for sensory quality were determined as 4.83 g of Danggue powder, 70.46 g of brown sugar, and 86.08 g of butter.

  • Cube textured Ni substrate were fabricated for YBCO coated conductors from the initial specimens prepared by powder metallurgy (P/M) and casting and the effects of annealing temperature and reduction ratio on texture formation and microstructural evolution were evaluated. The initial specimens were rolled and then annealed in the temperature at $600^{\circ}C{\sim}1200^{\circ}C$. A strong cube texture formed for P/M substrate, and the degree of texture did not significantly vary with annealing temperature of $600^{\circ}C{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$. On the other hand, the texture of casting substrate was more dependent on the annealing temperature and twin texture and several minor texture components started to form at $1000^{\circ}C$.

  • Rare earth Nd-Fe-B, a widely used magnet composition, was synthesized in a shape of powders using gas atomization, a rapid solidification based process. The microstructure and properties were investigated in accordance with solidification rate and densification. Detailed microstructural characterization was performed by using scanning electron microscope (SEM) and the structural properties were measured by using X-ray diffraction. Iron in the form of α-Fe phase was observed in powder of about 30 ㎛. It was expected that fraction of Nd2Fe14B phase increased rapidly with decrease in powder size, on the other hand that of α-Fe phase was decreased. Nd-rich phase diffused from grain boundary to particle boundary after hot deformation due to capillary action. The coercivity of the alloy decreased with increase in powder size. After hot deformation, Nd2Fe14B phase tend to align to c-axis.

  • Nine polymorphic modifications of doxazosin mesylate have been obtained by recrystallization in organic solvents under variable conditions. Different polymorphs of doxazosin mesylate were characterized by powder X-ray crystallography diffractometry (PXRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and thermogravimetric analysis (TG). Transformation of Form 1 and Form 2 was not occurred in three relative humidities ($0\%$, $51\%$, and $99\%$) at 20$\pm$0.5 for 30 days.

  • Electrophoretic Deposition (EPD) is the most convenient technology to deposit natural or oxide powders of nonconductive materials in alcoholic suspension solution with adding electrolyte of iodine to form ceramic thick film on metal substrate under applied electric field with double electric layer between electrode and metal substrate. In this research work, the important parameters and technical ways were studied to form EPD thick films of typical oxide ceramics of Al2O3, YBCO and tourmaline powders.

  • Five polymorphic modifications of Cephradin were prepared by recrystallization from organic solvents. The isolated crystal forms were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and X-ray crystallography powder diffractometry. Modificaition 1 was the most stable form and decomposed at $201.3^{\circ}C$. Modification 3 and 4 were metastable. The dissolution of modification 3 and 4 was faster than that of marketed form.

  • Two crystal forms of cefuroxime axetil were obtained by the recrystallization from different organic solvents and characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). It was confirmed that two crystal forms are identical. The dissolution patterns of these two forms were also checked in 0.07 N HCl at $37{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$, 100 rpm for 180 minutes. The transformation during storage was also studied.
