  • PTFE is generally utilized as the form of composites with adding various fillers. The purpose of this paper lies on clarifying the friction and wear properties of the PTFE coating layer on steel. Especially, the effects of PTFE powder size for coating and surface roughness of the counter material on the properties are investigated. Sliding friction and wear tests are conducted at several sliding speeds by employing two types of PTFE coating layer using different powder sizes. One type of coating layer is composed of uniform fine powder, whereas the other type is made up of mixture powder of different sizes. As results, it is found that PTFE coating layer are effective to improve the wear resistance and to reduce the friction coefficient. It is clear that PTFE coating layers are abrasively removed by asperities of the counter material during sliding contact. However, PTFE coating layer with uniform fine powder shows somewhat better wear resistance than that with mixture powder of different sizes in low sliding speed region. It can be seen that the wear of the coating layer are drastically reduced because wear fragment from counter material are transferred to the coating layer. On the other hand, friction coefficient is shown not to be directly related with PTFE powder size in coating layer.

  • This study is a basic research for repair material production which manufactured a Cu repair coating layer on the base material of a Cu plate using kinetic spray process. Furthermore, the manufactured material underwent an annealing heat treatment, and the changes of microstructure and macroscopic properties in the Cu repair coating layer and base material were examined. The powder feedstocks were sphere-shaped pure Cu powders with an average size of $27.7{\mu}m$. The produced repair coating material featured $600{\mu}m$ thickness and 0.8% porosity, and it had an identical ${\alpha}$-Cu single phase as the early powder. The produced Cu repair coating material and base material displayed extremely high adhesion characteristics that produced a boundary difficult to identify. Composition analysis confirmed that the impurities in the base material and repair coating material had no significant differences. Microstructure observation after a $500^{\circ}C/1hr$. heat treatment (vacuum condition) identified recovery, recrystallization and grain growth in the repair coating material and featured a more homogeneous microstructure. The hardness difference (${\Delta}H_v$) between the repair coating material and base material significantly reduced from 87 to 34 after undergoing heat treatment.

  • In order to develop the nano-sized WC powder that improved the hardness of hardmetals, carbothermal reduction of WO3 by C was examined by using the thermogravimetric analysis. At the direct carburization reaction path of $WO_3{\rightarrow}WO_{2.72}{\rightarrow}WO_2{\rightarrow}W{\rightarrow}W_2C{\rightarrow}WC$, the nano-sized grain was generated at the reaction stage $WO_{2.72}$ to $WO_2$ and W. For trial production, the intermediate products which consists of metal and carbide phases obtained by the first heating has been carburized to the final WC powder. We succeeded in the development of the WC powder of about 70nm. In addition, the nano-sized WC powder in which the vanadium of the most effective grain growth inhibitor was uniformly dispersed was developed.

  • High-pure tantalum powder was fabricated through Na reduction process and has been produced by using $K_2$TaF$_{7}$, and KCI, KF for raw material and diluent, respectively. A raw material and diluent were charged at the hestalloy bomb by the weight rate of 1:2, 1:1, 1:0.5 and 1:0.25 each other, investigated properties of morphology, chemical composition and yield and particle size after reduced. Ta metal has been achieved by reduction of $K_2$$TaF_{7}$ 500g with 1% sodium in excess of stoichiometric amount in the charge at a reduction temperature of $850^{\circ}C$ for 3hours. According to amount of the diluent, a formation of the powder doesn't have an effect. The diluent prevented the temperature rising caused from the heat of reaction and it maintained the speed of reducing reaction. But in the mixture ratio of raw material and diluent in the 1 : 2 and 1 : 0.25, an oxide and partially not reacted K were detected. As the amount of diluent increased, the size of tantalum powder decreased. According as raw material and the mixture ratio of diluent change from 1:0.25 to 1:2, the size is decreased from 5$\mu\textrm{m}$ to 1$\mu\textrm{m}$, and a particle size distribution which is below 325 mesh in fined powder increases from 71% to 83%. In the case of average size of Tantalum powder which is the mixture ratio (1:0.5), we would get the Ta powder with grain size about 3$\mu\textrm{m}$, which come close to the average size (2~4$\mu\textrm{m}$) of tantalum powder which is used commonly in the present is Ta powder about 3$\mu\textrm{m}$.

  • The powder manufacturing process using the gas atomizer process is easy for mass production, has a fine powder particle size, and has excellent mechanical properties compared to the existing casting process, so it can be applied to various industries such as automobiles, electronic devices, aviation, and 3D printers. In this study, a modified A4032-xSn (x = 0, 1, 3, 5, and 10 wt.%) alloy with low melting point properties is investigated. After maintaining an argon (Ar) gas atmosphere, the main crucible is tilted; containing molten metal at 1,000℃ by melting the master alloy at a high frequency, and Ar gas is sprayed at 10 bar gas pressure after the molten metal inflow to the tundish crucible, which is maintained at 800℃. The manufactured powder is measured using a particle size analyzer, and FESEM is used to observe the shape and surface of the alloy powder. DSC is performed to investigate the change in shape, according to the melting point and temperature change. The microstructure of added tin (Sn) was observed by heat treatment at 575℃ for 10 min. As the content of Sn increased, the volume fraction increased to 1.1, 3.1, 6.4, and 10.9%.

  • Inkjet printing was successfully done using Cu nano powder ink after these Cu nano powders were dry-coated with 1-octanethiol for oxidation prevention. 1-octanethiol, which is Self-Assembled Multi-layers (SAMs), was coated approximately 10-nm thick on the surface of Cu nano powders. 1-Octanol, which has the same chain length as that for 1-octanethiol, was used as a solvent to make the ink for inkjet printing. As a result, the fabricated ink was dispersed for about 4 weeks, and after printing and heat treatment at $350^{\circ}C$ for 4 hours, the resistivity for the printed pattern was measured to be $1.15{\times}10^{-5}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$.

  • The recent rise in applications of thermoelectric materials has attracted interest in studies toward the fabrication of thermoelectric materials using mass production techniques. In this study, we successfully fabricate n-type $Bi_2Te_{2.7}Se_{0.3}$ material by a combination of mass production powder metallurgy techniques, gas atomization, and spark plasma sintering. In addition, to examine the effects of hydrogen reduction in the microstructure, the thermoelectric and mechanical properties are measured and analyzed. Here, almost 60% of the oxygen content of the powder are eliminated after hydrogen reduction for 4 h at $360^{\circ}C$. Micrographs of the powder show that the reduced powder had a comparatively clean surface and larger grain sizes than unreduced powder. The density of the consolidated bulk using as-atomized powder and reduced atomized powder exceeds 99%. The thermoelectric power factor of the sample prepared by reduction of powder is 20% better than that of the sample prepared using unreduced powder.

  • In an Additive Manufacturing (AM) system emplying the Powder Bed Fusion (PBF) system, polyamide-12 powder is currently recognized as the general material used. The Polyamide-12 powder's properties include an average particle size of 58 $58{\mu}m$, a density of 0.59 g/cm3, and melting point of $184^{\circ}C$, and can also be to used coat materials for metal powder. For this reason, the sintering process is similar to the polymer powder and polymer coated metal powder process, except during the post-process. The polyamide-12 powder has some disadvantages such as its high cost and the fact that it can only be used for the provided equipment from the maker. Therefore, this study aims to perform the applicability of new material, polymer and polymer coated metal, to the PBF system.

  • Powder blasting technique has been considered one of the most appropriate micro machining methods for hard and brittle materials, since the productivity is high and the heat layers caused by material removal are very thin. Recent development of special purposed parts, such as the parts for semiconductor processing, the parts for LCD, sensors for micro machine fabrication and so on, has been expanded. Thus, it is essential to develop powder blasting technologies for micromachining of hard and brittle materials such as glass, ceramics and so on. In this paper, the characteristics of powder blasted glass surface were tested under various blasting parameters. Finally, we proposed a predictive model for powder blasting process using the neural network and the response surface method. Detail analysis of the simulation results is carried out and the performance of two predictive models is compared.
