  • This study developed a ten-step procedure of integrated watershed management (IWM) for sustainability to rehabilitate the distorted hydrologic cycle and identified spatial hazard ranking(step 2). Spatial hazard indices, Potential flood damage (PFD), potential streamflow depletion (PSD), potential water quality deterioration (PWQD), and watershed evaluation index (WEI) were developed using multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) techniques and sustainability evaluation concept(pressure-state-response model). The used MCDM techniques are composite programming, compromise programing, Regime method, and EVAMIX approach which are classified by data availability and objectives (prefeasibility and feasibility).

  • Soil liquefaction is one of the types of major seismic damage. Soil liquefaction is a phenomenon that can cause enormous human and economic damages, and it must be examined before designing geotechnical structures. In this study, we proposed a practical method of developing a multi-hazard fragility surface for liquefaction of levee considering earthquake magnitude and water level. Limit state for liquefaction of levee was defined by liquefaction potential index (LPI), which is frequently used to assess the liquefaction susceptibility of soils. In order to consider the uncertainty of soil properties, Monte Carlo Simulation based probabilistic analysis was performed. Based on the analysis results, a 3D fragility surface representing the probability of failure by soil liquefaction as a function of the ground motion and water level has been established. The prepared multi-hazard fragility surface can be used to evaluate the safety of levees against liquefaction and to assess the risk in earthquake and flood prone areas.

  • In case of the domestic condition, as the initiating from Sumjin River Dam, total 14 units of multipurpose dams had been constructed in 1965 for the roles of flood control, waterpower generation, irrigation, water supply, industrial water supply. In the case of such multipurpose dam, it produces electric energy by converting the potential energy utilizing its head and quantity of the water into kinetic energy. However, in this process, since during the time when the turbine connected to the hydraulic turbine dynamo revolves and there occurs a loud noise, it brings the physical, mental bad influences to those people also a decline of an effective working efficiency. On such point of view, after selection of various 16 measurement points, this study has measured and analyzed the travelling characteristics of noise generated at the hydraulic turbine dynamo in Daechung Dam, and also has evaluated the degree of indoor noise using the evaluation index such as PSIL, NC. As the result of noise-evaluation, in case of Daechung Dam, since the noise damage grade appears very seriously at various spaces, it is considering that its soundproof measure would be necessitated keenly. Also, it is considered that such data could be utilized as the valuable material hereafter for establishment of an efficient noise-reduction countermeasure and a comfortable working environment for the hydraulic turbine dynamo plant.

  • The objective of this study is the evaluation of the impact on the construction condition due to historical observation data and IPCC SRES A2 climate change scenario. For this purpose, daily precipitation and daily mean temperature data which have been observed over the past 30 years by Korea Meteorological Administration are collected and applied. Also, A2 scenarios during 2011~2040 and 2051~2080 are used for this analysis. According to the results of trend analyses on annual precipitation and annual mean temperature, they are on the increase mostly. The available working day and the day occurred an extreme event are used as correlation indices between climate factor and construction condition. For the past observation data, linear regression and Mann-Kendall test are used to analyze the trend on the correlation index. As a result, both working day and extreme event occurrence day are increased. Likewise, for the future, variation analysis showed the similar result to that of the past and the occurrence frequency of extreme events is increased obviously. Therefore, we can project to increase flood damage potential on the construction site by climate change.
