In the present study, the nonlocal strain gradient theory is used to predict the size-dependent buckling and post-buckling behavior of geometrically imperfect nano-scale piezo-flexomagnetic plate strips in two modes of direct and converse flexomagnetic effects. The first-order shear deformation plate theory is used to analyze analytically nano-strips with simply supported boundary conditions. The nonlinear governing equations of equilibrium and associated boundary conditions are derived using the principle of minimum total potential energy with consideration of the von Kármán-type of geometric nonlinearity. A closed-form solution of governing differential equation is obtained, which is easily usable for engineers and designers. To validate the presented formulations, whenever possible, a comparison with the results found in the open literature is reported for buckling loads. A parametric study is presented to examine the effect of scaling parameters, plate slenderness ratio, temperature, the mid-plane initial rise, flexomagnetic coefficient, different temperature distributions, and magnetic potential, in case of the converse flexomagnetic effect, on buckling and post-buckling loads in detail.
Temperature is one of the most critical elements that influence the rutting and fatigue resistance of flexible pavements. Particularly in extreme hot regions in Saudi Arabia, high temperature would significantly reduce the rutting resistance of flexible pavements leading to reduction of pavement service life. Due to the impacts of global warming, average temperature in Saudi Arabia is expected to further increase by about 4℃ by the end of the 21st century. The substantial increase in average temperature will elevate the expected pavement maintenance and rehabilitation cost. This paper analyzes the structural effects of temperature on pavement using layered elastic analysis based on finite element techniques. The research team calculated the potential loss of pavement service life due to the projected temperature increase and climate change. The paper also analyzed potential impact of using carbon waste in asphalt concrete to tackle the derogatory impacts of temperature rise.
This study proposes a novel rotary direct evaporative cooler and investigates the potential of a moisture-wicking fabric as a cooling pad for the proposed evaporative cooler. The rotary direct evaporative cooler rotates the cooling pad to reduce the water and energy consumption of the pump compared to those of existing direct evaporative coolers. A moisture-wicking fabric is considered as the material of the cooling pad, because of its high moisture-wicking property, enhancing water evaporation. Experiments are performed under various inlet air conditions while measuring the air temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, and differential pressure. The evaporative cooling efficiency and impacts of the inlet air temperature and air velocity on the cooling performance are also evaluated. The results demonstrate the potential of the moisture-wicking fabric as cooling pad of direct evaporative cooler.
Recent advancements in electronic devices and wireless communication technologies, particularly the rise of 5G, have raised concerns about the escalating electromagnetic pollution and its potential adverse impacts on human health and electronics. As a result, the demand for effective electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials has grown significantly. Traditional materials face limitations in providing optimal solutions owing to inadequacy and low performance due to small thickness. MXene-based composite materials have emerged as promising candidates in this context owing to their exceptional electrical properties, high conductivity, and superior EMI shielding efficiency across a broad frequency range. This review examines the recent developments and advantages of MXene-based composite materials in EMI shielding applications, emphasizing their potential to address the challenges posed by electromagnetic pollution and to foster advancements in modern electronics systems and vital technologies.

This paper presents the ground surface potential profiles and hazard voltages around the metallic structure connected to a small-sized model ground electrode. Because it is very difficult to draw valid conclusions concerning a general grounding problem from actual field data, scale model tests can be used to determine the touch and stop voltages and surface potential profiles around ground electrode. In this work, a hemispherical vessel with a diameter of 1,100[mm] was employed to simulate uniform soil. As a result, the ground surface potential around the ground electrode was significantly raised In particular the ground surface potential at the just upper point of ground rod was higher than other points. When the buried depth of ground rod is increased, the ground surface potential and step voltage were lowered but the touch voltage was elevated.
In order to clarify the receptor types and mechanisms underlying the positive inotropic effect of dopamine on the mammalian ventricular myocardium, the action potential, its first derivatives and isometric contraction of the rabbit papillary muscle were recorded using a force transducer and glass capillary microelectrodes filled with 3M KCl. The results were as follows; (1) In normal Tyrode solution, the contractile force was increased and duration of action potential was shortened with increments of dopamine concentration ($10^{-6}-10^{-4}M$). (2) The dose-response curve was markedly shifted to the right by pretreatment with reserpine (5mg/kg i.p., 24hrs prior to the experiment). (3) In 19mM $K^+-Tyrode$ solution, the duration of action potential, maximum rate of rise (V_{max}) of action potential and overshoot were significantly increased with increments of dopamine concentration ($10^{-6}-10^{-4}M$). (4) The inotropic effect of dopamine on the rabbit papillary muscle pretreated with reserpine was antagonized by atenolol ($10^{-6}M$), but not by phentolamine ($3{\times}10^{-6}M$). (5) In rabbit papillary muscle partially depolarized by 19mM $K^+-Tyrode$ solution, slow electrical response (calcium mediated action potential) as well as contraction were restored by dopamine ($10^{-4}M$); this restoration was blocked by calcium antagonists ($3{\times}10^{-5}M$$LaCl_3{\cdot}6H_2O$, $3{\times}10^{-6}M$ diltiazem) or ${\beta}-adrenoceptor$ antagonist ($3{\times}10^{-6}M$ atenolol), but not affected by ${\alpha}-adrenoceptor$ antagonist ($10^{-5}M$ phentolamine, $3{\times}10^{-6}M$ yohimbine) or vascular dopaminergic receptor antagonist ($10^{-5}M$ haloperidol). The above results may be interpreted as that the positive inotropic effect of dopamine through both direct and indirect action are caused by increase in slow inward current ($Ca^{2+}$ influx into themyocardial cell), and the direct action is mainly due to the stimulation of ${\beta}-adrenoceptors$ in the rabbit papillary muscle.
The large-scale distribution of crops Is usually determined by climate. We present the results of a climate-crop prediction based on spatial bio-physical process model approach, implemented in a GIS (Geographic Information System) environment using several regional and global agriculture-environmental databases. The model utilizes daily climate data like temperature, rainfall, solar radiation being generated stocastically by in-built model weather generator to determine the daily biomass and finally the crop yield. Crops are characterized by their specific growing period requirements, photosynthesis, respiration properties and harvesting index properties. Temperature and radiation during the growing period controls the development of each crop. The model simulates geographic/spatial distribution of climate by which a crop-growing belt can also be determined. The model takes both irrigated and non-irrigated area crop productivity into account and the potential increase in productivity by the technical means like mechanization is not considered. All the management input given at the base year 1995 was kept same for the next twenty-year changes until 2015. The simulated distributions of crops under current climatic conditions coincide largely with the current agricultural or specific crop growing regions. Simulation with assumed weather generated derived climate change scenario illustrate changes in the agricultural potential. There are large regional differences in the response across the country. The north-south and east-west regions responded differently with projected climate changes with increased and decreased productivity depending upon the crops and scenarios separately. When water was limiting or facilitating as non-irrigated and irrigated area crop-production effects of temperature rise and higher $CO_2$ levels were different depending on the crops and accordingly their production. Rise in temperature led to yield reduction in case of maize and rice whereas a gain was observed for wheat crop, doubled $CO_2$ concentration enhanced yield for all crops and their several combinations behaved differently with increase or decrease in yields. Finally, with this spatial modeling approach we succeeded in quantifying the crop productivity which may bring regional disparities under the different climatic scenarios where one region may become better off and the other may go worse off.
In recently years, occurrences of lightning return strokes have been increased by global worming effect and intensity of lightning impulse voltage and current accompanied by lightning discharges has being strengthening. In Korea, 560 thousand lightning discharges happened in 200S. According to the increasing frequencies of lightning, human deaths and damages to the structure have been increased steadily. Electric fire caused by lightning return strokes due to the breakdown between power line and ground line from the ground potential rise on a process of the lightning impulse current through to the ground. The damages of lightning were occurring at same time in the neighboring areas of the lightning point. In order to protect from the lightning stroke, we made a suggestion to use protection devices and equipotential bonding at the dangerous areas. The analysis results of electric fires caused by lightning would be utilized to investigate and to find accurate fire cause in the fire scenes.
Seismic isolation is an effective method for the protection of buildings and their contents during strong earthquakes. This research work aims to assess the appropriateness of the linear and nonlinear models that can be used in the analysis of typical low-rise base isolated steel buildings, taking into account the inherent nonlinearities of the isolation system as well as the potential nonlinearities of the superstructure in case of strong ground motions. The accuracy of the linearization of the isolator properties according to Eurocode 8 is evaluated comparatively with the corresponding response that can be obtained through the nonlinear hysteretic Bouc-Wen constitutive model. The suitability of the linearized model in the determination of the size of the required seismic gap is assessed, under various earthquake intensities, considering relevant methods that are provided by building codes. Furthermore, the validity of the common assumption of elastic behavior for the superstructure is explored and the alteration of the structural response due to the inelastic deformations of the superstructure as a consequence of potential collision to the restraining moat wall is studied. The usage of a nonlinear model for the isolation system is found to be necessary in order to achieve a sufficiently accurate assessment of the structural response and a reliable estimation of the required width of the provided seismic gap. Moreover, the simulations reveal that the superstructure's inelasticity should be taken into account, especially if the response of the structure under high magnitude earthquakes is investigated. The consideration of the inelasticity of the superstructure is also recommended in studies of structural collision of seismically isolated structures to the surrounding moat wall, since it affects the response.

Atrial myocytes have two functionally separate groups of ryanodine receptors (RyRs): those at the periphery colocalized with L-type $Ca^{2+}$channels (DHPRS) and those a t the cell interior not associated with DHPRs. $Ca^{2+}$ current ($I_{ca}$) directly gates peripheral RyRs on action potential and the subsequent peripheral $Ca^{2+}$ release propagates into the center of atrial myocytes. The mechanisms that regulate the $Ca^{2+}$+ propagation wave remain Poorly understood. Using 2-D confocal$Ca^{2+}$ imaging, we examined the role of inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IP $_3R$) and mitochondria on ($I_{ca}$)- gated local $Ca^{2+}$ signaling in rat atrial myocytes. Blockade of IP $_3R$ by xestospongin C (XeC) partially suppressed the magnitudes of I ca-gated central and peripheral $Ca^{2+}$ releases with no effect on $I_{ca}$. Mitochondrial staining revealed that mitochondria were aligned with ${\thickapprox}2-{\mu}m$ separations in the entire cytoplasm of ventricular and atrial myocytes. Membrane depolarization induced rapid mitochondrial $Ca^{2+}$ rise and decay in the cell periphery with slower rise in the center, suggesting that mitochondria may immediately uptake cytosolic $Ca^{2+}$, released from the peripheral SR on depolarization, and re-release the $Ca^{2+}$ into the cytosol to activate neighboring central RyRs. Our data suggest that the activation of IP $_3R$ and mitochondrial $Ca^{2+}$ handing on action potential may serve as a cofactor for the $Ca^{2+}$ propagation from the DHPR-coupled RyRs to the DHPR-uncoupled RyRs with large gaps between them.
