  • This paper presents an implementation of a smart plant pot which can supply light and water automatically according to the result of detection on current temperature, humidity and illumination, and deliver the images of the plant realtime by using a camera installed in the pot. We designed a container of the plant pot divided into five layers, printed each of them with a 3D printer, and then assembled them. Inside of the container, we installed sensors, a pump, and a camera. We developed an Android application so that the user can control the plant pot and monitor its state. In communication between the Android application and the Raspberry Pi, MQTT protocol was utilized.

  • This study was carried out to investigated the water requirement of twisted sweet peppers which are cultivated in a green house. The meteorological conditions during the experiment period was close to that of normal year except the temperature and relative humidity. The growth status was improved with the increased saturation ratio. The range of the variation of daily water requirement were very large. The peak consumption occurred in the early August. And the higher saturation ratio resulted in higher water requirement. The total water requirement were about 57.180g/d/plant for pot with 100% (P100) of saturation , about 38.700g/d/plant for pot with 80%(P80) of saturation , about 23,720g/d/plant for pot with 60%(P60) of saturation, and about 53, 390g/d/plant for field cultivation in the green house, respectively. The water requirement was correlated with average ambient temperature and growing status, while no significant correlation were found between water requirement and minimum relative humidity or intensity of solar radiation. And the higher correlation was shown as the saturation ratio was increased. The transpiration coefficients of twisted sweet pepper were 378.0g/g for field cultivation in the green house, 363.3g/g for P100, 338.7g for P80 which was the smallest among pot cultivation , and 472.1g/g for P60 , respectively.

  • Effect of daminozide concentration and application methods, in combination with different planting period, on the growth of chrysanthemum was investigated for small pot-plant production. Daminozide, a plant growth regulator widely used for plant height control, was applied by drench or sub-application. For pot chrysanthemums of first planting time, plant height was reduced over $4,000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$, when daminozide was drenched directly into the pot medium. However, $5,000mg{\cdot}L^{-1}$ of daminozide drench affected plant height reduction for secondarily planted pot chrysanthemum. Analysis of variance revealed the plant height was affected by planting time. For sub-application experiment of daminozide, it showed that the daminozide affected the number of flower buds formation and fresh and dry weight. These results suggest that planting period affected growth retardation of chrysanthemum. Therefore, application of growth retardant in combination with planting time and application methods may provide more efficient growth control for pot-chrysanthemum production.

  • Throughout CGL (Continuous Galvanizing Line) in steel works, zinc-coated steel sheets are produced which are used where long-running corrosion resistivity is required. During the galvanizing process, top dross is created and floated on the zinc pot. Because the dross leaves ill patterns on the coated sheets, a robot system is developed to automatically collect and remove the top dross. It consists of a robot and its carriage system, a pot level sensor, a system controller, and special robot tools. For the first time the level of zinc pot must be measured and fed back to the robot controller to avoid submersion of the robot hand into the hot zinc pot. In this paper, acoustic distance sensor is tested as a candidate for the pot level sensor in the view point of hot environment. Some considerations on the use of the acoustic distance sensor will be denoted.

  • This study was conducted to find out the effect of rice straw and wollastonite applied to the paddy soil on the growth and yield of the rice plant. The soil was treated with two level of straw 0 and 88gr per pot, of which respectively combined with 4 levels of wollastonite, 0 (Avail $SiO_2$: 50 ppm), 27 (Avail. $SiO_2$: 150 ppm), 85 (Avail. $SiO_2$: 300 ppm) and 185 (Avail. $SiO_2$: 450 ppm) gr per pot. The results for two years experiment were as follows. 1. Application of rice straw and wollastonite, respectively, suppressed the growth of the plant at early stage. As a consequence the hight and number of tiller of the plant were comparatively smaller, but the combined effect of rice straw and wollastonite treatment on the plant growth appeared after the maximum tillering stage and got a better yield as compared with single treatment of rice straw or wollastonite. 2. At the pot of no rice straw and 27 gr wollastonite treatment, and also pot of rice straw and 85gr (in the year of 1983 experiment) as well as 135gr wollastonite treatment (in the year 1984 experiment), the yield of total dry material and unhulled rice of the plant were respectively higher than other pots in different treatment and the plant height showed similar tentency. Application of rice straw in paddy soil appeared to require more wollastonite for growth of the rice plant as compared with no rice straw application. 3. The highest yield was obtained at the pot with rice straw and 85gr of wollastonite treatment in the year of 1983 experiment, were its yield had 25% increament as compared with the control pot, while being studied for residual effect of rice straw and wollastonite application in the next year, the highest yield was obtained at the pot with rice straw and 135gr wollastonite treatment, where its yield had 30% increament as compared with the control pot.

During the galvanizing process, top dross is created and floated on the zinc pot. Because the dross leaves ill patterns on the coated sheets, it is removed manually with shovel-like tools in about twenty minutes. Because, however, the working environment is very noisy, hot and harmful to human workers, a robot system is developed and implemented on a real plant to automatically remove the top dross. It consists of a robot and its carriage system, a pot level sensor, a system controller, and special tools to collect, pick up, and put the top dross into a dross waste basket. A system software is developed to monitor the system status. A series of tests were performed to verify the robot motion and adaptation to working conditions, and proved successful work.

  • The efficacy of formulated Trichoderma harzianum-based Tricho-compost, seed treatment with Tricho-inocula, and chemical fungicide Provax 200 WP against foot and root rot diseases of wheat caused by Sclerotium rolfsii was tested in the pot house and in the research field of Plant Pathology Division, Bangladesh Agricultural Research Institute, Gazipur, Bangladesh. Tricho-compost was prepared with a mixed substrate of cow dung, rice bran, and poultry refuse colonized by T. harzianum. Seedling mortality of wheat was significantly reduced by the Tricho-compost, Tricho-inocula, and Provax 200 WP both in the pot house as well as in the field experiments. The yield of wheat was sharply increased over the control due to the T. harzianum formulations and Provax 200 WP. Among the treatments, soil application of Tricho-compost was more efficient in reducing seedling mortality and accelerating plant growth with an increased yield of wheat with S. rolfsii-inoculated pot cultures and field experiments.

  • This study aimed to determine of water quantity in pot for water flooding culture of Pinus thunbergii Parl., Chaenomeles japonica Lindl. ex Spach and Osmanthus fragrans Lour. The survival rate of P. thunbergii Parl. and C. japonica Lindl. ex Spach in the water quantity in pot 60% or 40% was 100% and the rate of O. fragrans Lour. in the 60% or 40% water was 90.0% or 93.3%. However the survival rate of the 100% water was less than 90% in P. thunbergii Parl, C. japonica Lindl. ex Spach and less than 60% was in O. fragrans Lour. The increasing rate of plant height for P. thunbergii Parl. in the water quantity in pot 40% or 60% was above 50%, and the C. japonica Lindl. ex Spach or O. fragrans Lour. was above 90%. However the increasing rate of plant height in the water 100% was less then the others as a 38.2%, 65.4% or 66.7% in respectively in P. thunbergii Parl., C. japonica Lindl. ex Spach and O. fragrans Lour. The increasing rate for leaf number for P. thunbergii Parl. in the water quantity 40% or 60% was above 80%, and the C. japonica Lindl. ex Spach or O. fragrans Lour. was above 70%, however the 100% water was below 60% in all treatment. Therefore, the survival rates in some woody plants of the 40% or 60% water in the pot was above 90% and the plant growth of plant height, plant width, leaf number or fresh weight was proper increased. But the survival rates and growth of the 100% water in the pot was decreased

  • Prunus × yedoensis is a representative tree species in residential areas often used as a street tree or park tree, with its popularity due to splendid flowers in the spring. We investigated plant growth, photosynthesis, chlorophyll, and carotenoid concentrations of Prunus yedoensis at 400ml/pot, 1,000ml/pot, and 2,000ml/pot Irrigation treatments. Overall growth indices such as tree height, diameter at root collar (DRC), and total dry weight could be ranked in the decreasing order "2,000ml/pot > 1,000ml/pot > 400ml/pot.". However, 2,000ml/pot featured decreased photosynthesis and total chlorophyll carotenoid contents than 1,000ml/pot treatment after July. And also, The 1,000ml/pot treatment showed relatively high photosynthetic activity and chlorophyll contents. These results suggested that the cultivation of Prunus yedoensis under 1,000ml/pot Irrigation treatment(soil water contents 25~35%) showed the best condition in growth.
