Evaluation of Mechanical Properties of Three-dimensional Printed Flexible Denture Resin according to Post-polymerization Conditions: A Pilot Study

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether three-dimensional (3D)-printed flexible denture resin has suitable mechanical properties for use as a thermoplastic denture base resin material. Materials and Methods: A total of 96 specimens were prepared using the 3D printed flexible denture resin (Flexible Denture). Specimens were designed in CAD software (Tinkercad) and printed through a digital light-processing 3D printer (Asiga MAX UV). Post-polymerization process was conducted according to air exposure or glycerin immersion at 35℃ or 60℃ and for 30 or 60 minutes. The maximum flexural strength, elastic modulus, 0.2% offset yield strength, and Vickers hardness of 3D-printed flexible denture resin were assessed. Result: The maximum flexural strength ranged from 64.46±2.03 to 84.25±4.32 MPa, the 0.2% offset yield strength ranged from 35.28±1.05 to 46.13±2.33 MPa, the elastic modulus ranged from 1,764.70±64.66 to 2,179.16±140.01 MPa, and the Vickers hardness ranged from 7.01±0.40 to 11.45±0.69 kg/mm2. Conclusion: Within the limits of the present study, the maximum flexural strength, 0.2% offset yield strength, elastic modulus, and Vickers hardness are sufficient for clinical use under the post-polymerization conditions of 60℃ at 60 minutes with or without glycerin precipitation.

Synthesis and Characterization of Adsorbent for Pb(II)-capture by using Glow Discharge Electrolysis Plasma

  • A novel polyacrylamide grafted hydrous ferric oxide adsorbent composite has been synthesized by using glow discharge electrolysis plasma. To optimize the synthesis conditions, the following parameters were examined in detail: applied power, discharge time, post polymerization temperature, post polymerization time, amount of crosslinking agent and hydrous ferric oxide gel added and so on. The adsorbent was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The removal percentage of the adsorbent in Pb(II) solution was examined and the data obtained showed that the adsorbent composite has a high capacity for lead ion. For the use in wastewater treatment, the thermodynamic and kinetic of Pb(II)-capture were also studied. Results indicated that the adsorption reaction was a spontaneous and an endothermic process, and it seems to be obeyed a pseudo-secondorder rate model. Moreover, the adsorption isotherm of Pb(II)-capture is following the Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models.

표면 개질된 나노복합막의 투과 특성 (Permeation Properties of Surface Modified Nanofiltration Membrane)

  • 본 연구에서는 복합막의 제조공법으로 가장 광범위하게 쓰이는 계면중합법을 이용하여 나노복합막을 제조하였다. Monomer의 농도 및 조성, curing 조건, 후처리 조건과 같은 복합막 제조조건과, 운전압력, 공급액의 농도와 같은 운전인자에 의한 막성능 변화를 조사하였고, 계면중합 과정중에 첨가제를 사용하여 막의 유효면적을 확대하여 투과유속을 증가시키고자 하였다. Monomer의 농도가 증가함에 따라 배제능은 일정하였지만 투과유속이 감소하였고, curing 온도가 증가함에 따라서는 오히려 안정적인 박막층의 형성이 저해되어서 배제능과 투과유속이 모두 감소하였고, curing 시간에 따른 막성능의 변화는 나타나지 않았다. Test solution의 농도가 올라감에 따라서 투과유속과 배제능 모두 감소하였으며, 운전압력이 증가함에 따라서는 배제능과 투과유속 모두 향상하는 경향을 보였다. 계면중합과정중에 사용하는 아민단량체(amine monomer) 중 방향족 다이아민(aromatic amine)인 MPD의 함량을 높임에 따라서 배제능은 증가하였지만 투과유속은 현저하게 떨어졌다. 첨가제의 농도에 따른 표면 거칠기 증가 경향은 MPD가 포함된 amine 조성일 때가 더 높았지만 투과유속은 piperazine만 단독으로 사용하였을 때보다 떨어졌다.

오제스키병 바이러스 검출을 위한 Polymerase Chain Reaction (Polymerase Chain Reaction for the Detection of Aujeszky's Disease Virus)

  • Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was evaluated for the early detection of Aujeszky's disease virus (ADV) DNA from virus-infected cell cultures. For the purposes, the Korean ADV NYJ1-87 was propagated in swine kidney (SK) cells and subjected to the amplification of DNA (217 bp) by PCR using sense and antisense primers specific to gp50 gene of the ADV. In detection of cell-associated viral DNA, reliable PCR conditions were determined as 30 cycles of reaction consisting 1 minute each of denaturation at $94^{\circ}C$, annealing at $55^{\circ}C$ and polymerization at $72^{\circ}C$. The PCR encountered best results with reagent mixtures of $50{\mu}l$ containing $200{\mu}M$ dNTPs, $0.2{\mu}M$ each sense and antisense primers, 1 mM $MgCl_2$ and 10% (v/v) template DNA in the final concentrations. ADV-specific DNAs were detected as early as 6, 6, and 9 hours post-infection, respectively, from lysates of the SK cells infected with ADV of $10^3$, $10^2$ and $10^1\;TCID_{50}/ml$ by this condition. In culture supernatant, the DNAs were detected from ADV of as low infectivity as $10^ {-3}\;TCID_{50}/ml$ by the reduced reagent concentrations and 30 cycles of 1 minute each of denaturation at $94^{\circ}C$ and annealing at $55^{\circ}C$, and 2 minutes of polymerization at $72^{\circ}C$. The lowest amount of detectable ADV DNA was 1 fg. In conclusion, the PCR condition established in the present study was recognized as a feasible alternative to time-consuming procedures in isolation and characterization of the virus.

Enhanced Adhesion and Transmittance Uniformity in Laminated Polymer-Dispersed Liquid Crystal Films

  • We propose a two-step UV irradiation procedure to fabricate polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) films by lamination. During the first UV treatment, before lamination, the UV-curable monomers coated on one film substrate are solidified through photo-polymerization as the phase separation between the liquid crystals and the monomers. Introducing an adhesion-enhancement layer on the other plastic substrate and controlling the UV irradiation conditions ensure that UV-induced cross-linkable functional groups remain on the surfaces of the photo-polymerized layers. Thereby, the adhesion stability between the top and bottom films is much improved during a second (post-lamination) UV treatment by further UV-induced cross-linking at the interface. Because the adhesion-enhancement and PDLC layers prepared by the bar-coating process are solidified before lamination, the PDLC droplet distribution and the cell gap between the two plastic substrates remain uniform under the lamination pressure. This ensures that the voltage-controlled light transmittance is uniform across the entire sample.

치과용 재료의 적층가공에 대한 문헌고찰 (Review on additive manufacturing of dental materials)

  • 치과용 재료의 적층가공제작은 기존 제작방식에 비해 복잡한 형태까지 제작할 수 있으며 절삭가공에 비해서도 기구나 재료의 소모가 적어 지속가능성이 장점으로 대두되고 있다. 적층가공 제작은 7가지 방식으로 분류할 수 있는데, 폴리머는 적층가공에 가장 적합한 재료로 용기중합방식으로 제작하며 기존 자가중합방식에 비해 높은 물성과 적합도를 가져 상용화에 더 적합하지만 상대적으로 낮은 강도로 인해 임시수복물로 주로 이용된다. 금속은 PBF (powder bed fusion) 방식을 주로 이용하며 주조방식에 비해 파괴인성과 밀도가 높지만 잔류응력이 높아 이를 제거하기 위한 후처리방식에 대한 연구가 필요하다. 세라믹은 분말과 레진폴리머를 혼합한 재료를 용기중합하는 방식이 일반적이다. 제작 후 폴리머제거나 소결과 같은 후처리 과정이 복잡하다. 상용화되려면 세라믹 적층가공에 의한 결과물의 낮은 강도와 체적정확성이 개선되어야 한다. 적층가공은 어떤 재료이건 공정조건에 따라 물성과 표면환경이 달라지므로 가장 적합한 공정조건을 찾기 위한 연구가 더 많이 필요하다고 사료된다.

고분자연료전지용 설폰산화 폴리아릴렌에테르설폰 멀티블록공중합체의 합성 및 특성 분석 (Synthesis and Characterization of Sulfonated Poly (Arylene ether Sulfone) Multi-Block Copolymer for PEMFC Application)

  • Multi-block sulfonated poly (arylene ether sulfone) (SPES) membranes were synthesized by post-sulfonation and its properties characterized. Two types of oligomers, F-terminated and OH-terminated telechelic oligomers, were synthesized by controlling the feed ratio of dihydroxyl- and difluoro-monomers. Their number of repeating unit (X and Y) was analyzed by GPC and $^1H$ NMR. Copolymerization with F-terminated and OH-terminated telechelic oligomers via nucleophilic aromatic substitution, gave high-molecular-weight multi-block PESs. Each block length was controlled to have different values with X5Y10, X10Y10, X20Y10 and X20Y20. Successful polymerization and its successful sulfonation was confirmed by GPC and $^1H$ NMR. RH dependence of proton conductivity of multi-block SPES membranes was comparable to that of Nafion 212 at high RH conditions.
