Objectives Post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN) is one of the common complications in patients diagnosed with herpes zoster. The purpose of this case study is to suggest the effect of Galgunhaegui-tang and korean medicine treatment for post-herpetic neuralgia patient. Methods A 62-year-old Herpes Zoster patient suffered from rash with post-herpectic neuralgia was identified as Taeeumin Gansuyolriyolbyong. The patient's chief complaint was assessed by counting the number of oral analgesics taken and using Visual Analog Scale(VAS) score. The patient was treated with Galgunhaegui-tang and Korean medicine treatment. Results After 9 days of admission treatment including Galgunhaegui-tang, VAS of PHN was decreased from 7.5 to 4 and the number of taking oral analgesic was decreased from 2 to 1. Conclusions This case study indicates that Galgunhaegui-tang and Korean medicine treatment may improve the pain of PHN.

The purpose of this study was to report the effect of Bogijetong-tang on post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN). The main symptoms were numbness, pain, burning, paresthesia on left dorsum pedis and insomina. We prescribed Bogijetong-tang (BJT) three times a day and performed acupuncture and moxibustion twice a day. We observed the change of symptoms to evaluate the therapeutic effect. The symptoms were evaluated with numerical rating scale(NRS). After the treatment, pain decreased from 8 to 3, burning from 5 to 1, paresthesia from 7 to 5, numbness from 5 to 3 and insomina improved. Above the results, Bogijetongtang is effective in treating post-herpetic neuralgia.

Objective : This study reports the effect of oriental medicine with depletion and cupping therapy on post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN) 1 case. Methods : We experienced one case of PHN treated by oriental medical treatment with depletion and cupping therapy. To evaluate the effectiveness of this treatment, we used the Visual Analogue Scale(VAS). Result : After the treatment the grade of VAS was decreased and clinical symptoms were improved. Conclusion : Oriental medicine with depletion and cupping therapy can be available for relieving symptoms related with PHN.

Post-herpetic neuralgia(PHN) is a chronic pain syndrome associated with the reactivation of a primary infection with varicella zoster virus(chinken pox), which leads to a chronic infection of dorsal root ganglia. The most common risk factor for shingles and its potential sequela, PHN, is advanced age. For a significant number of patients, the pain following healing of shingles can persist for months to years. If this pain, classified as PHN, persists longer than one month. PHN often leads to depression, disrupted sleep, decreased productivity, and utilization of health care. We treated a 60 year-old female patient who suffered pain and headache after Stellate Ganglion Blocks(SGB). In identifying points for differentiation of syndrom(辨證), this subject was diagnosed as Yangmyeong Merdian wind-heat syndrom(陽明經風熱證) and was administered Seungmagalgeuntanggamibang(revised Shengmagalgen-tang, 升麻葛根湯加味方). To ease pain, Western medication was administered as well. After fourteen days of treatment, pain and other symptoms improved.

An important technique of the present invention is primarily to parallel light detection, self-pulse therapy after diagnosis. Herpes zoster is a disease caused by varicella zoster virus, and the virus that has been latent in the dorsal root ganglion that controls the skin segment loses its immune system and physically damages it. It is an acute skin disease in which acute pain and bullous rash occur along the sensory ganglia, which are rehab by inducers such as malignant tumors. Dorsal root ganglion after complete recovery of varicella, relapsed after incubation in brain ganglion, latent virus sometimes suppressed activity by cell mediated immunity, and in cell ganglion with reduced cellular immunity. It proliferates and destroys neurons, causing pain while forming a rash and blisters. This can reduce cell necrosis and increase the phagocytosis and enzymatic activity through the movement of ions through the cell membrane, depolarization and membrane potential change, growth factor secretion, calcium ion transfer, chondrocyte synthesis, etc., And may offer treatment options for lesions of herpes zoster and post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN).Therefore, according to the present research, the diagnosis and treatment device of treating paing for herpes zoster and post-herpetic pain can be implemented in the early stage of herpes zoster, and conventional analgesic regulation, anti-inflammatory effect, post-herpetic neuralgia.

대상포진후 신경통의 치료를 위하여 사용하였던 스테로이드로 인한 고혈당증을 동반한 환자를 치료한 결과를 다음과 같이 요약한다. 첫째, 통증치료실에서 흔히 쓰이는 약물 중에는 고혈당증을 유발하는 것이 많으므로 처치전에 고혈당이 영향을 주는 다른 질환의 유무를 확인하도록 한다. 둘째, 스테로이드 사용으로 인하여 발생되는 일시적인 고혈당중의 경우에는 스테로이드 사용 중단으로 회복이 가능하나 잠재되어 있던 당뇨병의 발현시는 지속적인 당뇨병의 치료를 필요로 한다. 셋째, low level laser therapy는 혈당치에 영향을 미치지 않는 통증치료법으로 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

비록 신경병성 동통이 환자에게 주는 심리적 부담에 대하여 잘 알고 있지만 동통의 역학조사에 대해서는 아직 잘 알려져 있지 않다. 신경병성 동통의 정확한 발병률도 잘 알려져 있지 않은 데, 이는 여러가지 새로운 의료기기가 개발되었지만 정확한 진단을 하지 못하고 있으며, 적절한 치료를 제대로 하지 못하기 때문이다. 본 연구의 목적은 한국내 모든 종류의 병원에서 치료한 몇 가지 특정 신경병성 동통에 대하여 역학조사를 시행하는 것이다. 2003년 1월부터 2005년 12월까지 건강보험심사평가원(심평원)의 전산에 입력된 환자들을 대상으로 조사한 신경병성 동통 환자와 치료 받은 과 및 치료기간 등에 대하여 조사하였다. 신경병성 동통 환자의 수와 유병률을 살펴보면 삼차신경통 77,053명(27.6%), 비정형적 안면통 12,382명(4.4%), 설인후 신경통 1,319명(0.5%), 포진후 신경통 84,598명(30.3명), 당뇨병성 신경통 85,989명(30.8%), 비정형적 치통 16,001명(5.7%), 설통 2,133명(0.8%) 이며, 시간이 경과함에 따라 포진후 신경통과 당뇨병성 신경통은 증가하는 경향을 보이나, 그 외 신경통은 대부분 증가가 둔화되는 양상을 보였다. 대부분의 환자들은 57.6-72.8% 에 이르도록 1차 의료기관인 개인의원에서 치료받았으나 비정형적 치통의 경우에만 10.3% 정도로 1차 의료기관에서 진료받는 비율이 낮았다. 치과의원에 내원하는 환자의 비율은 삼차신경통 3.2%, 비정형적 치통 35.4%, 설통 15.4%이며 그 외 나머지 신경병성 동통은 대부분 의원에서 치료받았다.

Herpes zoster (HZ) results from the reactivation of a varicella-zoster virus infection and is accompanied by moderate-to-severe pain in most patients. The most common treatment is medication; however, there are still limitations. Acupuncture reportedly has meaningful therapeutic effects and is a possible alternative option in HZ. However, no systematic reviews examining the use of acupuncture and electro-acupuncture (EA) alone have been published; in this study, we therefore aimed to systematically review those techniques. We searched for clinical trials of acupuncture and EA treatment for HZ up to October 2022. Trials that used acupuncture were included. Outcomes were visual analog scale (VAS) and effective rate. Secondary outcomes were time to pain relief, time to pain elimination, incrustation, decrustation, lastly incidence of post-herpetic neuralgia (PHN). In total, 22 randomized controlled trials were included in this research. Compared with conventional medication therapy, acupuncture was associated with a significant improvement in VAS, effective rate, and times to pain relief and elimination. Times to new blister cessation, incrustation, and decrustation (days) were significantly improved. Furthermore, the incidence rate of PHN was lower in acupuncture groups. The results suggest that acupuncture could be a reasonable treatment option for patients with HZ who suffer from pain and accompanying symptoms.
