Retention of fiber posts to the optimally and over-prepared dowel spaces

  • PURPOSE. To assess the retention of glass fiber post cemented with self-adhesive resin cement into optimum and over-prepared root canals following obturation in the presence of either eugenol (EB) or calcium hydroxide (CB)-based sealers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Roots of extracted premolars were endodontically-treated in 5 groups (n = 10). Roots of Group 1 (control) were left with no obturation and then optimally prepared to receive endodontic dowels. Other root canals were obturated with gutta-percha in the presence of either eugenol-based (Groups 2 and 4) or calcium hydroxide-based (Groups 3 and 5) sealer. Dowel spaces were prepared with optimal diameter in Groups 2 and 3, one size larger in Groups 4 and 5. Standardized fiber posts were luted to the prepared spaces using self-adhesive resin cement and its retention was then tested on an universal testing machine. Both one-way ANOVA and Tukey's HSD comparisons (${\alpha}$=0.05) were used to identify the significance of inter-group retention differences. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of both optimally and over-prepared dowel spaces was also considered to figure the nature of their interior out. RESULTS. The post retention was significantly higher to the non-obturated, optimally-prepared dowel spaces of Group 1 compared to the obturated, optimally-prepared ones of Groups 2 and 3. For each dowel space diameter, root canals obturated using CB of Groups 3 and 5 showed significantly higher dowel retention compared to those obturated using EB of Groups 2 and 4. Post retention to the over-prepared dowel spaces of Groups 4 and 5 was significantly higher than that recorded for the optimally-prepared ones of Groups 1-3. SEM images revealed traces of endodontic sealer and gutta-percha on the walls of the optimally-prepared dowel spaces. CONCLUSION. Despite the adverse effect of endodontic sealers on the retention of fiber posts, the over-preparation of dowel spaces helps to improve the retention.

Streptococcus mutans를 이용한 근관 치료 후 포스트 와동 형성 전후의 치관부 누출에 관한 연구 (BACTERIOLOGIC IN VITRO CORONAL LEAKAGE STUDY OF BEFORE AND AFTER POST SPACE PREPARATION)

  • 본 실험에서는 근관 충전 후 Streptococcus mutans를 이용하여 포스트 와동 형성 전후의 근관부미세 누출을 비교하였다. 40개의 발치된 치아를 치근단의 길이가 14 mm가 되도록 치관부를 제거한 뒤, 06 taper $Profile^{(R)}$로 MAF 크기가 $\#40$이 되게 근관 확대를 시행하였다. 근관 확대 후 continuous wave technique으로 근관 충전을 시행하였다. 실험군은 다음과 같다. 1군은 양성 대조군으로 sealer 없이 근관 충전 하였다. 2군은 음성 대조군으로 sticky wax로 치근면을 완전히 막았다. 3군은 근관 충전 후 전체 길이를 14 mm로 유지하였다. 4군은 근관 충전 후 거타퍼치를 5 mm 길이로 남겨두고 포스트 와동을 형성하였다. 치근을 플라스틱 튜브 안에 위치시켜 치근첨은 Andrade's indicator가 첨가되어 있는 BHI 배지에 접촉되도록 하고 상부에서는 bacteria가 유입되도록 하였다. 실험군 3에서의 색변화는 평균 27.2일 만에 일어났으며 포스트 와동 형성한 4군은 평균 15.7일만에 색변화가 일어났으며 3군과 4군 사이에 통계학적으로 유의차를 나타내었다(P = 0.0007).

Effect of dimethyl sulfoxide on bond durability of fiber posts cemented with etch-and-rinse adhesives

  • PURPOSE. This study was undertaken to investigate whether use of an adhesive penetration enhancer, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO), improves bond stability of fiber posts to root dentin using two two-step etch-and-rinse resin cements. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Forty human maxillary central incisor roots were randomly divided into 4 groups after endodontic treatment and post space preparation, based on the fiber post/cement used with and without DMSO pretreatment. Acid-etched root dentin was treated with 5% DMSO aqueous solution for 60 seconds or with distilled water (control) prior to the application of Excite DSC/Variolink II or One-Step Plus/Duolink for post cementation. After micro-slicing the bonded root dentin, push-out bond strength (P-OBS) test was performed immediately or after 1-year of water storage in each group. Data were analyzed using three-way ANOVA and Student's t-test (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. A significant effect of time, DMSO treatment, and treatment${\times}$time interaction were observed (P<.001). DMSO did not affect immediate bonding of the two cements. Aging significantly reduced P-OBS in control groups (P<.001), while in DMSO-treated groups, no difference in P-OBS was observed after aging (P>.05). CONCLUSION. DMSO-wet bonding might be a beneficial method in preserving the stability of resin-dentin bond strength over time when fiber post is cemented with the tested etch-and-rinse adhesive cements.

A simplified etching technique to improve the adhesion of fiber post

  • PURPOSE. Numerous methods were used to etch the fiber posts to improve its bonding to root canal dentin. Our aim was to evaluate the efficacy of 37% phosphoric acid in etching fiber posts in comparison with 24% hydrogen peroxide. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ninety human maxillary central incisors were taken and post space preparation was done. Ninety fiber posts were taken and divided into three groups (n=30) based on the surface treatment they received ($H_3PO_4$, $H_2O_2$, distilled water) and each group was further divided (n=10) based on the time period of application (15 seconds, 30 seconds, 60 seconds). All the posts were luted into canals using Rely X UniCem-2. Each tooth was then sectioned into six slices and subjected to push out test. Data obtained was subjected to statistical analysis at P<.05. The surface topography was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. RESULTS. Highest bond strength values were noted in 15 seconds etched phosphoric acid group and 60 seconds etched hydrogen peroxide group with no significant difference between two groups. Surface topography revealed complete epoxy layer removal with no damage to its structural integrity in those groups. CONCLUSION. $H_3PO_4$ etching for a period of 15 seconds is an effective alternative in improving the adhesion of fiber post to root dentin.

Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) Operation: From Design to Initial Results

  • Korea Pathfinder Lunar Orbiter (KPLO) is South Korea's first space exploration mission, developed by the Korea Aerospace Research Institute. It aims to develop technologies for lunar exploration, explore lunar science, and test new technologies. KPLO was launched on August 5, 2022, by a Falcon-9 launch vehicle from cape canaveral space force station (CCSFS) in the United States and placed on a ballistic lunar transfer (BLT) trajectory. A total of four trajectory correction maneuvers were performed during the approximately 4.5-month trans-lunar cruise phase to reach the Moon. Starting with the first lunar orbit insertion (LOI) maneuver on December 16, the spacecraft performed a total of three maneuvers before arriving at the lunar mission orbit, at an altitude of 100 kilometers, on December 27, 2022. After entering lunar orbit, the commissioning phase validated the operation of the mission mode, in which the payload is oriented toward the center of the Moon. After completing about one month of commissioning, normal mission operations began, and each payload successfully performed its planned mission. All of the spacecraft operations that KPLO performs from launch to normal operations were designed through the system operations design process. This includes operations that are automatically initiated post-separation from the launch vehicle, as well as those in lunar transfer orbit and lunar mission orbit. Key operational procedures such as the spacecraft's initial checkout, trajectory correction maneuvers, LOI, and commissioning were developed during the early operation preparation phase. These procedures were executed effectively during both the early and normal operation phases. The successful execution of these operations confirms the robust verification of the system operation.

심미적 포스트 코어의 종류에 따른 미세누출에 관한 연구 (Microleakage of endodontically treated teeth restored with three different esthetic post and cores)

  • 연구목적: 오늘날 심미적 요구의 증가로 치아색 포스트 코어에 대한 많은 관심이 모아지고 있으며 다양한 연구가 진행 중이다. 현재 화이버 포스트 (ParaPost fiber White, Coltene Whaledent, Cuyahoga Falls, USA), 지르코니아 포스트 (CosmoPost, Ivoclar Vivadent, Schann, Germany) 등에 관한 논문은 다소 나와 있으나 요즘 여러 분야에서 관심을 받고 있는 CAD/CAM (computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing) 방식으로 지르코니아를 가공한 절삭형 지르코니아 포스트 코어에 대한 연구는 많지 않은 실정이다. 이 연구의 목적은 CAD/CAM을 이용한 지르코니아를 비롯하여 근관치료된 치아에서 사용된 세 가지 다른 치아색 포스트 코어에 대해 미세누출 (microleakage)을 비교해 보는 것이다. 연구 재료 및 방법: 발치된 건전한 상악 절치 27개를 채택하여 백악법랑질경계 (CEJ)에서 절단하여 근관치료를 시행하고, 세군 (각 9개)으로 나누었다. 각군들은 화이버 포스트와 콤포짓트 레진 코어 (1군), 지르코니아 포스트와 열가압형 세라믹 코어 (2군), CAD/CAM 절삭형 지르코니아 포스트 코어 (3군)로 수복하였다. $5-55^{\circ}C$ 1000회 열순환 처리 (thermocycling)를 시행하고, 2% 메틸렌 블루로 $37^{\circ}C$에서 24시간 염색하였다. 치아장축과 평행하게 순설방향으로 절단하여 미세누출을 현미경과 컴퓨터 프로그램을 사용하여 분석을 하였다. 데이터는 one-way ANOVA와 Scheffe's multiple range test (${\alpha}=0.05$)로 분석하였다. 결과: 모든 군에서 미세누출을 보였으며, 지르코니아 포스트와 열가압형 세라믹 코어군 (2군)에서 치근계면 입구에서는 다소 많은 미세누출을 보였으나 포스트 끝에 이르러서는 거의 미세누출이 없는 결과를 보였다. 화이버 포스트와 콤포짓트 레진 코어군 (1군)과CAD/CAM 절삭형 지르코니아 포스트 코어군 (3군)에서는 부위별로 균등한 미세누출을 보였다. 결론: 화이버 포스트와 콤포짓트 레진 코어군, 지르코니아 포스트와 열가압형 세라믹 코어군, CAD/CAM 절삭형 지르코니아 포스트 코어군 모두에서 미세누출을 보였고, 이 중에서 지르코니아 포스트와 열가압형 세라믹 코어군이 좀 더 큰 미세누출에 대한 저항성을 보였으며 화이버 포스트와 콤포짓트 레진 코어군, CAD/CAM 절삭형 지르코니아 포스트 코어군은 유사한 양상을 보였으나, 각 실험군 간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 인정되지 않았다. 청주국제공예비엔날레 전시회장 조성에 관한 평가와 분석 (An Analysis of evaluations of Exhibition Design for Cheongju International Craft Biennale)

  • Cheoungju International Craft Biennale is not just an art exhibition but more like a pubic festival which is including an experiential learning and a public participation section as well as a special exhibition and an international competition section. Thus it is strongly required to present an appropriate meaning and mood corresponding to each exhibition hall. The paper has examined the exhibition topics during the last 10 years and the plannings and contents to install the exhibition hall according the yearly topic and it has analyzed the comprehensive evaluations after the exhibition. The research scope is limited to the part related to the exhibition hall and facilities, which is including calculation of dimensions and layout, access and movement system, the appropriateness of the design and construction period, measure of applied technology appropriateness, post management as well as planning intent, estimation of the number of the visitors, preliminaries. With the results shown in the comprehensive evaluation and analysis, the paper has presented two issues, the one related to the procensure and preparation and the other related to the facilities. It is showed that both problems are due to the lack of expertise and it is necessary for the experts to participate from the first step of the procedure including planning for the successful exhibition. For the appropriate exhibition hall corresponding to the exhibition planning and scale, it is required to have the professional considerations of successful space and visitor's movement management, display environment, construction method, and post management. The study presents that architectural and interior design have to take an active part in constructing exhibition design in overall stage including the initial, practice, and evaluation stage.

성인 발달장애인 대상 수단적 일상생활활동 작업치료 프로그램이 일상생활활동 및 삶의 질에 미치는 영향 (Impact of an Instrumental Daily Living Activities Occupational Therapy Program for Adults With Developmental Disabilities on Their Daily Living Activities and Quality of Life)

  • 목적 : 본 연구는 성인 발달장애인을 대상으로 수단적 일상생활활동 프로그램을 제공하였을 때 일상생활활동 및 삶의 질에 미치는 영향을 확인하고자 하였다. 연구방법 : 본 연구는 단일집단 사전-사후 실험설계로, E 장애인복지관의 성인 발달장애인 17명을 대상으로 시행하였다. 프로그램은 사전-사후 평가를 포함하여 총 10회기로 이루어졌으며, 장보기, 식사준비 및 정리, 가정관리, 안전 및 응급관리와 관련된 훈련 및 교육을 제공하였다. 평가도구는 삶의 질 설문지(Quality of Life: QOL), 한국어판 생활공간 평가(Korean version of the Life Space Assessment: K-LSA), 한국어판 수단적 일상생활활동(Korean version of the Instrumental Activities of Daily Living: K-IADL)을 사용하였다. 결과 : 수단적 일상생활활동 작업치료 프로그램 전과 후의 QOL과 K-IADL 점수에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 나타났으며, K-LSA 점수는 통계적으로 유의한 차이가 없었다. 결론 : 본 연구는 성인 발달장애인 대상으로 수단적 일상생활활동 프로그램을 시행함으로써 수단적 일상생활활동 수행도와 삶의 질에 긍정적인 영향을 주는 것을 확인하였다. 성인 발달장애인의 일상생활 및 사회참여를 영위하기 위해 일상생활활동 훈련을 포함한 작업참여의 중재가 확대되어야 한다.

  • 본 연구는 4차 산업혁명과 포스트 코로나 시대를 대비한 인천글로벌캠퍼스 도서관의 종합운영계획 수립을 위한 기초연구로, 인천글로벌캠퍼스 학생을 대상으로 현재 도서관의 현황 및 만족도, 수요도 조사를 실시하고 이를 기반으로 향후 종합운영계획수립 방향을 제안하고자 하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째 장서의 경우 지속적인 장서 확충을 위한 중장기적 계획이 필요하며, 특히 전공 관련 장서 확충이 필요할 것으로 보인다. 둘째 서비스의 경우, 이용자들의 연구단계별 맞춤형 정보서비스, 연구자 맞춤정보서비스, 학과전담 연구지원서비스 등을 제공하여 이용자들의 연구를 지원해야 하며, 정보활용교육프로그램 제공이 필요하다. 셋째, 공간 부분의 경우, IGC 이용자들은 학습 및 연구 공간에 대한 요구도가 매우 높게 나타나, 향후 공간 재구성을 통해 이용자들이 원하는 교육 및 관련 공간 개선이 필요하며, 학습 공간 확대와 더불어 토론 및·협업 활동, 세미나, 휴식 등 학생들의 삶과 밀접한 장소로서의 창의 협업 공간 확대도 필요하다. 마지막으로 홈페이지 및 정보시스템과 관련하여 홈페이지 활성화를 위해서는 가장 우선적으로 홈페이지 내에 이용자들이 원하는 다양한 콘텐츠 및 최신성을 갖춘 자료 확충이 필요하며, 이와 함께 국내 전자저널 및 DB 제공 계획이 이루어져야 할 것으로 보인다.

  • I. Objectives The aim of this was to evaluate the use possibility of light curing flowable composite resins as a luting agent for translucent fiber posts. II. Materials and Methods 20 single-rooted maxillary central incisors were selected and crown was sectioned below the cemento-enamel junction to obtain a 13 mm ling root. Root canals were filed, cleaned, and shaped to #40 with K-file. Prepared canals were filled with gutta percha and AH26 root canal sealer by lateral condensation method. Teeth were than divided into 4 groups of 5 specimens each. In group 1 and 2, the canal space of each root was enlarged with #3 DT Light post preparation drill (Bisco, USA) to a depth of 9mm from the cervical.(omitted)
