Objective: Pituitary adenomas are common neurological lesions believed to account for 10% to 15% of all primary brain tumors. There can be diagnostic confusion due to discordance of the preoperative endocrine and the postoperative immunohistochemical diagnosis. In this study, the rate of discordance between preoperative and postoperative findings and their clinical implications were investigated. Methods: From March 2005 to March 2006, 26 patients who underwent surgery for a pituitary adenoma were enrolled in this study. The preoperative pituitary hormone level and postoperative immunohistochemical results were compared and analyzed. Results: The median age of the patients was 38 years [range 15-66 years]. The male to female ratio was 8 to 18. The endocrine evaluation showed 16 hormonally-active and 10 hormonally-inactive adenomas. The immunohistochemical findings showed : 13 prolactin-positive, 1 GH-positive, 1 FSH-positive, 8 pleurihormone-positive and 3 stain-negative adenomas. The percentage of discordance observed between the preoperative endocrine and postoperative immunohistochemical diagnosis was 54%. Nine of 10 endocrine non-functioning adenomas showed : 3 PRL positive, 1 GH positive, 2 PRL+GH positive, 1 TSH+FSH positive, 1 FSH+ACTH+PRL positive and 1 FSH+LH+PRL positive adenomas by immunohistochemistry. Three endocrine PRL+GH secreting adenomas showed 2 PRL positive and 1 FSH+GH positive by immunohistochemistry. One endocrine PRL secreting and 1 GH secreting adenoma showed 1 PRL+ TSH positive and 1 GH+PRL positive by immunohistochemistry, respectively. The diagnosis of the other 12 pituitary adenomas showed concordance. Conclusion : The results of this study showed 54% discordance rate between the preoperative endocrine and postoperative immunohistochemical diagnosis for pituitary adenomas.
There are various approaches to prevent industrial accidents, of which the focus on human factors is behavior based safety(BBS). The BBS provides positive feedback on safety behavior and corrective feedback on unsafe behavior. Determining the feedback ratio of positive and correct feedback is an important issue in BBS. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of positive and corrective feedback ratio on safety performance and feedback acceptance. The participants of this study were sixty undergraduate and graduate students at C University in Seoul, Korea. Participants were asked to work on a simulated welding task. The independent variable of was different positive vs. corrective feedback ratio (1:1 and 1:4). The dependent variables were the amount and the number of correctly completed work tasks, compliance rate of safety behavior, and feedback acceptance. The experimental design of this study was 2 x 2 mixed design. The results showed that feedback, regardless of the ratio, increased both correctly completed work tasks and the compliance rate of safety behavior, while 1:1 positive vs. corrective feedback ratio was more effective than 1:4 ratio. In addition, 1:1 ratio produced higher level of feedback acceptance compared to 1:4 ratio.
This paper evaluated autonomic nervous system function in 23 patients with syncope and a positive tilt test result, 21 with a negative test result, and 19 healthy controls. Indexes of heart rate variability were measured during supine resting, immediately afte rtilt-up, standing rsting, immediately before syncope and immediately after tiltdown. There were no significant differences among the groups in any of the indexes of heart rate varability over the 24-hour holter recordings. In patients with a positive tilt result, tilting gaused a decrease in low-frequency (LF) immediately before syncope and incsrease in high-frequency (HF) bands immediately before. In patients with a negative tilt result, tilting caused a decrease in low-frequency (LF) immediately before syncope and decrease in high-frequency (HF) bands immediately before, different from positive tilt results. Our findings showed that patients with vasovagal syncope have no chronic differences from normal subjects in autonomic nervous system activity, but that these patients respond differently to the orthostatic stimulus.
An epidemiological survey on 136 inhabitants of a Gum-River basin, Hyunbook-ri, Puyo-up, Puyo county, South ChoongCheong-Do, conducted from July 22, 1981 to July 25, 1981 with the purpose of studying Clonorchiasis, revealed the results as follows, 1. Positive skin reaction (wheal size larger than $60mm^2$) rate was 42% (55 positive reactors among the 131 studied), and the positive rates were all high at the age groups over twenty, while low at the below twenty. 2. In the stool examination, the employed cellophane thick smear method revealed the results as follows, overall infection rate of helminth: 65% (55 infected among 84 studied) - C. sinensis 33% (28/84), A. lumbricoides 5% (4/84), Taenia Sp 7% (6/84), T. trichiurus 32% (27/84). 3. The prevalence rate of C. sincrisis was highest in 40 - 49 year-old group by age: male 39% (11 infected/ 28 studied) female 14% (3/28), and not a single case was found in the lower age groups than twenty including school children.

Two feature selection approaches are analyzed in this study. First Approach used in this paper is Filter Approach which comprises of correlation technique. It provides two reduced feature sets using positive and negative correlation. Secondly Approach used in this paper is the wrapper approach which comprises of Sequential Forward Selection technique. The reduced feature set obtained by positive correlation results comprises of Rate of Acceleration, Intensity and Formant. The reduced feature set obtained by positive correlation results comprises of Rasta PLP, Log energy, Log power and Zero Crossing Rate. Pitch, Rate of Acceleration, Log Power, MFCC, LPCC is the reduced feature set yield as a result of Sequential Forwarding Selection.
Breeding ducks are susceptible to fungal infections due to being bred in confined spaces for long periods. The objective of this study was to show the real state of the clinical fungal contamination of 22 duck breeding farms in Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea. Out of the 430 carcasses obtained from the 22 duck breeding farms, 80 were diagnosed with invasive pulmonary aspergillosis (IPA). Aspergillus spp. were detected as the causative agents, including 26 cases of A. fumigatus, 35 cases of A. flavus, and 19 cases of A. terreus. The clinical lesions in the breeding ducks had circumscribed cream-and-yellow-colored plaques and/or white-to-greenish mycelium. Septate hyphae with parallel walls and dichotomous branching were observed in the histopathological lesions. AGMAg ELISA was performed to determine the overall positive rate of Aspergillus spp. in duck breeding farms. These results showed a positive rate of 58.97% for Aspergillus spp. Additionally, the positive rate increased with the age of the host.
Background: The purpose of this study was to evaluate recently developed real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay kit to detect Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and nontuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in respiratory specimens. Methods: We assessed the positive rate of the real-time PCR assay to detect MTB and NTM in 87 culture-positive specimens (37 sputum, 50 bronchial washing), which were performed real-time PCR by using $Real-Q_{TM}$ MTB&NTM Kit from January 2009 to June 2009, at Gyeongsang University Hospital. To compare the efficacy with the TB-PCR assay, we evaluated 63 culture-positive specimens (19 sputum, 44 bronchial washing) for MTB or NTM, which were performed TB-PCR by using ABSOLUTETM MTB II PCR Kit from March 2008 to August 2008. Results: Among 87 specimens tested using real-time PCR, MTB and NTM were cultured in 58 and 29, respectively. The positive rate of real-time PCR assay to detect MTB was 71% (22/31) and 92.6% (25/27) in AFB stain-negative and stain-positive specimens. For NTM, the positive rate of real-time PCR was 11.1% (2/18) and 72.7% (8/11) in AFB stain-negative and stain-positive specimens. Among 63 specimens performed using TB-PCR, MTB and NTM were cultured in 46 and 17, respectively. The positive rate of TB-PCR was 61.7% (21/34) and 100% (12/12) in AFB stain-negative and stain-positive specimens. TB-PCR was negative in all NTM-cultured 17 specimens. Conclusion: TB/NTM real-time PCR assay is useful to differentiate MTB and NTM in AFB stain-positive respiratory specimens and it is as effective in detecting MTB with TB-PCR.
A bacteriological research of the school desks, bags and indoor-shoes was made from Oct. 2, 197 through May 28, 1976. The research included one girl's middle school, two boy's middle schools, two boy's high schools and 15 girl's high schools, alltogether 244 students from 28 schools, The research was analyzed and the results are as follows: 1) The research showed that 95% of the indoor-shoes materials were of cloth. Only 13% of the students carried the indoor-shoes in shoes sacks and 84.8% of them kept the shoes in schoolbags with books and lunchbox. 2) Only 5% of them cleaned their shoes every week and 79% cleaned every six. 3) 49.3% of the students kept the indoor-shoes in the school bag with other contents at home. 4) 88% of the bag was made of vinyl and 24.8% of the students carried their lunch in their bag without lunch box. 5) The research showed that 79.1% of the students never cleaned their bags. 6) In using the desk drawer, 58.2% of the students put their out-door shoes into the drawer, 18.9% of them kept their lunch in it, 11.9% used it keeping books alone and 11% keeping school bags with books. 7) 30.4% of the students had an experience of having cleaned their desks and 69.6% were unconcerned wirh desk-cleaning. 8) 34.4% of the indoor-shoes using school showed fecal coliform positive, 40.2% showed non-fecal coliform positive and 25.4% showed no reaction to IMViC. 9) The 34.4% of the fecal coliform positive showing schools, equivalant to 77 students, was composed of zero percents of girl's middle school, 18.2% of girl's high school, 36.4% of boy's middle school and 45.4% of boy's high school. 10) Among the 77 students, whose shoes showed fecal coliform positive, only 6.5% of them cleaned their shoes once in a week or a month and 62.3% of them cleaned them once in a six month. 11) The fccal coliform positive rate was higher in the cloth shoes materials than the vinyl materials. 12) The concrete-bottomed building higher positive rate (40.2%) than the wood-bottomed building (7.5%). 13) Even among the student's who frequently cleaned their desk drawer, 2.3% were in the positive, and among those who were unconcerned with drawer cleaning, 48.9% were involved in the positive. 14) In the fecal coliform positive rate of bags, 38.5% of the positive rate belonged to using indoor shoes while cleaning their class bottom with water, 53.8% belonged to using outdoor shoes while cleaning their class bottom with water, 7.7% belonged to using outdoor shoes while cleaning their class with oil.
Serum samples from 123 males and 123 females collected by age in 1996 were analyzed for antibodies against surface antigen of Hepatitis B virus and C22-3, C200 antigens of Hepatitis C virus. Sera from the children under the age of 10 showed 30% seropositivity to the surface antigen of Hepatitis B virus, 33.3% in $10{\sim}19$ year group, 20% in $20{\sim}29$ year group, 17.6% in $30{\sim}39$ year group, 3.3% in $40{\sim}49$ year group, 5.9% in $50{\sim}59$ year group, 8,3% in $60{\sim}69$ year group, 2.9% in $70{\sim}79$ year group, but antibody could not found in $80{\sim}86$ year group. 12 out of 123 male sera were positive, 19 out of 123 female sera were positive and overall rate of positivity of antibody against surface antigen of Hepatitis B virus was 12.6%. Serum samples from peoples under the age of 30 had not antibody against C22-3, C200 antigens of Hepatitis C virus. The positivity rate was 2.9% in $30{\sim}39$ year group. 5 out of 30 sera from $40{\sim}49$ year age group were positive, and 3 positive sera showed extremely high titer (1:524,288) but the titers of two remaining sera were 1:32, 1:8,192 respectively. 5.9% was positive in $50{\sim}59$ year group, 8.3% in $60{\sim}69$ year group, 11.8% in $70{\sim}79$ year group but all negative in $80{\sim}86$ year group 6 out of 123 male sera were positive (4.9%), 9 out of 123 female sera were positive (7.3%). Overall rate of positivity of antibody against C22-3, C200 antigen of Hepatitis C virus was 6.1 %. None out of 246 sera had both antibodies against Hepatitis B virus and Hepatitis C virus.
This study is to find physiological effects of acoustic information on landscape preference. Both the volume and the rate of $\alpha$-waves and $\beta$-waves were used to measure the effects in the study. The result of this study are summarized as follows: The outputting amount of $\alpha$-waves are sorted by different types of visual and acoustic factors. The results show that acoustic factors interacted with visual factors. That is, although visual factors are positive, the volume of $\alpha$-waves depends upon the character of acoustic factors; positive acoustic factors produce more $\alpha$-waves than negative or neutral(soundless) acoustic factors. Also the volume of $\alpha$-waves increase in the case of positive acoustic factors even if there is the same negative visual information. The results show that the volume of $\alpha$-waves increase without connecting with the types of visual factors. The volume of $\beta$-waves are largely reduced when visual stimulus is positive and soundless stimulus is provided. On the other hand, they generally increase when both visual and acoustic stimuli are negative, which fosters extremely unstable, tense and upset stress. The rate of $\alpha$-waves increase according to supplying positive acoustic factors in the opposed visual factors. The rate of wave(shouldn't be $\alpha$-waves\ulcorner) is high if both visual and acoustic factors are positive, so it is the most comfortable and causes no stress. Preference is the lowest if visual and acoustic factors are negative, but a -waves are conspicuously low in positive visual and negative acoustic factors.
