  • A foot motion is estimated using an inertial sensor unit, which is installed on a shoe. The inertial sensor unit consists of 3 axis accelerometer and 3 axis gyroscopes. Attitude and position of a foot are estimated using an inertial navigation algorithm. To increase estimation performance, a smoother is used, where the smoother employs a forward and backward filter structure. An indirect Kalman filter is used as a forward filter and backward filter. A new combining algorithm for the smoother is proposed to combine a forward indirect Kalman filter and a backward indirect Kalman filter. Through experiments, the estimation performance of the proposed smoother is verified.

  • In this paper, we propose an ESPRIT based algorithm for target position estimation with uniform linear array (ULA) and uniform circular array (UCA) at transmitter and receiver, respectively. When UCA is adopted at the receiver, unlike the case of ULA at the receiver, the rotational invariance of the received signal is satisfied. Although there has been an attempt to resolve this issue, the problem of direction of departure estimation has not been considered. In this paper, we provide an ESPRIT based algorithm to simultaneously estimate transmitter elevation angle, receiver elevation angle, and receiver azimuth angle, taking into account the transmitter antennas as well as the receiver antennas.

  • In this paper, we propose a performance index that can compare the position estimation performance according to the time slot allocation order, which is superior in the position estimation performance in the operation of the Link-16 based relative navigation system. In order to verify the validity of the performance index, a software-based Link-16 relative navigation system performance analysis platform composed of a signal generator, a signal reception and navigation algorithm execution unit, and a performance analysis unit was designed. Using the designed software platform, we analyzed the relationship between proposed performance index and position estimation performance according to time slot allocation order in the same position reference (PR) arrangement. The performance index of the proposed time slot allocation is expected to be utilized not only for the Link-16 system, but also for the Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA)-based navigation system.

  • Proximity sensor networks are aimed at estimation kinematic state of target using estimated position of the target by each sensor node or target parameter. To analyze the kinematic state of target, traditional approaches require detections on multiple sensors, very large number of sensors to achieve acceptable performance. In this paper, we propose a novel method which can estimate predicted position of the underwater target using minimum proximity sensor with bearing information to this problem. The proposed algorithm was verified performance through simulation.

  • The problem of sound source localization is to determine the position of sound sources using the measurement of the acoustic signals received by microphones. To develop a good sound source localization system which is applicable to a mobile platform such as robots, a time delay estimator with low computational complexity and robustness to background noise or reverberations is necessary. In this paper, an explicit adaptive time delay estimation method for a sound source localization system is proposed. Proposed explicit adaptive time estimation algorithm employs direct adaptation of the delay parameter using a transform-based optimization technique, rather than...

  • Although stable control algorithm has been implemented to the biped robot, the stability is not guaranteed because of encoder errors and/or rigid body elastics. Hence precise body pose estimation is required for more natural and long term walk. Specially pelvis sloping by gravity or uneven ground on landing place are most critical reason for undulated motion. In order to overcome these difficulties an estimation system for foot position and orientation using PSD sensors and Gyro sensors is proposed along with calibration algorithm and experimental verification.

  • This paper presents the sliding mode control with the perturbation estimator for a nonlinear control system in the presence of perturbations including external disturbances, unpredictable parameter variations, ana unstructured dynamics. The proposed perturbation estimator is based on the Recursive Linear Smoothed Newton predictive algorithm so that it is effective to attenuate an undesired noise in high frequency band and to predict the present perturbation signal from the previous ones. Compared to conventional sliding mode control (SMC) and sliding mode control with perturbation estimation (SMCPE) introduced by Elmali and Olgac, the control algorithm proposed in this study can offer better tracking control performances and more feasible estimation characteristics. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control strategy are demonstrated by a series of simulations on the position tracking control of a simple two-link robot manipulator subject to velocity feedback signals including white noises.

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm to track multi-small targets in infrared image sequences in case of dissipation or creation of targets by using the background estimation filter, Kahnan filter and mean shift algorithm. We detect target candidates in a still image by subtracting an original image from an background estimation image, and we track multi-targets by using Kahnan filter and target selection. At last, we adjust specific position of targets by using mean shift algorithm In the experiments, we compare the performance of each background estimation filters, and verified that proposed algorithm exhibits better performance compared to classic methods.

  • Recently, with the development of service robots and with the new concept of ubiquitous world, the position estimation of mobile objects has been raised to an important problem. As pre-liminary research results, some of the localization schemes are introduced, which provide the relative location of the moving objects subjected to accumulated errors. To implement a real time localization system, a new absolute position estimation method for a mobile robot in indoor environment is proposed in this paper. Design and implementation of the localization system comes from the usage of active beacon systems (based upon RFID technology). The active beacon system is composed of an RFID receiver and an ultra-sonic transmitter: 1. The RFID receiver gets the synchronization signal from the mobile robot and 2. The ultra-sonic transmitter sends out the traveling signal to be used for measuring the distance. Position of a mobile robot in a three dimensional space can be calculated basically from the distance information from. Three beacons and the absolute position information of the beacons themselves. In some case, the mobile robot can get the ultrasonic signals from only one or two beacons, because of the obstacles located along the moving path. Therefore, in this paper, as one of our dedicated contribution, the position estimation scheme with less than three sensors has been developed. Also, the extended Kalman filter algorithm is applied for the improvement of position estimation accuracy of the mobile robot.

  • Indoor location estimation studies are needed in various fields. The method of estimating the indoor position can be divided into a method using hardware and a method using no hardware. The use of hardware is more accurate, but has the disadvantage of hardware installation costs. Conversely, the non-hardware method is not costly, but it is less accurate. To estimate the location for AR game, you need to get the solution of the Perspective-N-Point (PnP). To obtain the PnP problem, we need three-dimensional coordinates of the space in which we want to estimate the position and images taken in that space. The position can be estimated through six pairs of two-dimensional coordinates matching the three-dimensional coordinates. To further increase the accuracy of the solution, we proposed the use of an additional non-coplanarity degree to determine which points would increase accuracy. As the non-coplanarity degree increases, the accuracy of the position estimation becomes higher. The advantage of the proposed method is that it can be applied to all existing location estimation methods and that it has higher accuracy than hardware estimation.
