Recently, Korea government decided to introduce RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standard) mechanism which requires electricity providers to gradually increase the amount of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, bioenergy, and geothermal. As a consequence, it is expected that the long-term fuel mix would be changed to result in more expensive production and the increased production costs would be distributed to the rate payers via electricity tariffs. This paper presents the change in long-term fuel mix in year 2020 with the four RPS scenarios of 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%, and the methodologies for collecting the increased production costs through new tariff schedule. The studies on long-term fuel mix have been carried out with the GATE-PRO (Generation And Transmission Expansion Program) optimization package, a mixed-integer program developed by the Korea Energy Economics Institute and Hongik university. Three methodologies for distributing the production costs to the rate payers have also been demonstrated.

Portfolio selection methods based on stochastic receding horizon approach, which were recently reported in the field of financial engineering, can explicitly consider the dynamic characteristics of wealth evolution and various constraints in the process of performing optimal portfolio selection. In view of the theoretical value, versatility, and effectiveness that receding horizon approach has achieved in many engineering problems, dynamic portfolio selection methods based on stochastic receding horizon optimization technique have the possibility of becoming an important breakthrough. This paper observes through theoretical investigations that the SDP(semi-definite program)-based portfolio selection procedure can be simplified, and has obtained meaningful performance on returns from simulation studies applying the simplified version to Korean financial markets.
We use the dynamic programming method to investigate the optimal consumption and investment problem with regime-switching. We derive the optimal solutions in closed-form with constant absolute risk aversion (CARA) utility.

In this paper, we propose a portfolio selection model utilizing a Markov chain for investing in the foreign exchange market based on market forecasts and exchange rate movement predictions. The proposed model is utilized to compute optimum investment portfolio weights for investing in margin-based markets such as the FX margin market. We further present an objective investment algorithm for applying the proposed model in real-life investments. Empirical performance of the proposed model and investment algorithm is evaluated by conducting an experiment in the FX market consisting of the 7 most traded currency pairs, for a period of 9 years, from the beginning of 2005 to the end of 2013. We compare performance with 1) the Dollar Index, 2) a 1/N Portfolio that invests the equal amount in the N target assets, and 3) the Barclay BTOP FX Index. Performance is compared in terms of cumulated returns and Sharpe ratios. The results suggest that the proposed model outperforms all benchmarks during the period of our experiment, for both performance measures. Even when compared in terms of pre- and post-financial crisis, the proposed model outperformed all other benchmarks, showing that the model based on objective data and mathematical optimization achieves superior performance empirically.
Companies are responding appropriately to the rapidly changing business environment and striving to lead those changes. As part of that, we are meeting our strategic goals through IT projects, which increase the number of simultaneous projects and the importance of project portfolio management for successful project execution. It also strives for efficient deployment of human resources that have the greatest impact on project portfolio management. In the early stages of project portfolio management, it is very important to establish a reasonable manpower plan and allocate performance personnel. This problem is a problem that can not be solved by linear programming because it is calculated through the standard deviation of the input ratio of professional manpower considering the uniformity of load allocated to the input development manpower and the importance of each project. In this study, genetic algorithm, one of the heuristic methods, was applied to solve this problem. As the objective function, we used the proper input ratio of projects, the input rate of specialist manpower for important projects, and the equal load of workload by manpower. Constraints were not able to input duplicate manpower, Was used as a condition. We also developed a program for efficient application of genetic algorithms and confirmed the execution results. In addition, the parameters of the genetic algorithm were variously changed and repeated test results were selected through the independent sample t test to select optimal parameters, and the improvement effect of about 31.2% was confirmed.

The expansion of volatility in Korean Stock Market made it more difficult for the individual to invest directly and increased the weight of indirect investment through a fund. The purpose of this study is to construct the EIF(enhanced index fund) model achieves an excessive return among several types of fund. For this purpose, this paper propose portfolio optimization model to manage an index fund by using GA(genetic algorithm), and apply the trading amount and the closing price of standard index to earn an excessive return add to index fund return. The result of the empirical analysis of this study suggested that the proposed model is well represented the trend of KOSPI 200 and the new investment strategies using this can make higher returns than Buy-and-Hold strategy by an index fund, if an appropriate number of stocks included.
Purpose: This study presents a research approach that utilizes deep reinforcement learning to construct optimal portfolios based on the business cycle for stocks and other assets. The objective is to develop effective investment strategies that adapt to the varying returns of assets in accordance with the business cycle. Methods: In this study, a diverse set of time series data, including stocks, is collected and utilized to train a deep reinforcement learning model. The proposed approach optimizes asset allocation based on the business cycle, particularly by gathering data for different states such as prosperity, recession, depression, and recovery and constructing portfolios optimized for each phase. Results: Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed deep reinforcement learning-based approach in constructing optimal portfolios tailored to the business cycle. The utility of optimizing portfolio investment strategies for each phase of the business cycle is demonstrated. Conclusion: This paper contributes to the construction of optimal portfolios based on the business cycle using a deep reinforcement learning approach, providing investors with effective investment strategies that simultaneously seek stability and profitability. As a result, investors can adopt stable and profitable investment strategies that adapt to business cycle volatility.
With the growing number of emerging carmakers, automotive parts manufacturers have to penetrate into emerging markets. They can provide large existing carmakers with fully customized parts because of economies scale, but cannot do this for small emerging carmakers due to their small and highly volatile volume order. Once the order by an emerging carmaker is placed, a part manufacturer is exposed to high risks both of decrease in profit margin and high opportunity cost. The platform-based mass customization can be a solution for cost reduction, but the risks of volatility in volume hard to manage. Tackling this issue, we presents a method of optimizing the product portfolio to maximize profits while managing volatility of volume order by emerging carmakers at an affordable level. It is the first robust product portfolio method to keep the scaled deviation of profits at a fixed level under volume order uncertainty. Also, the effect of on the platform-based mass customization on cost is considered. This model can be a building block of conservative market penetration as well as product development strategy while minimizing the financial risks. We conducted an empirical study of a part manufacturer targeting on eighteen automobile manufacturers in North America, Europe and Asia with it powered lift gate.
Since Paris Climate Change Conference in 2015, many policies to reduce the emission of greenhouse gas have been accelerating, which are mainly related to renewable energy resources and micro-grid. Presently, the technology development and demonstration projects are mostly focused on diversifying the power resources by adding wind turbine, photo-voltaic and battery storage system in the island-type small micro-grid. It is expected that the large-scaled micro-grid projects based on the regional district and town/complex city, e.g. the block type micro-grid project in Daegu national industrial complex will proceed in the near future. In this case, the economic cost or the carbon emission can be optimized by the efficient operation of energy mix and the appropriate construction of electric and heat supplying facilities such as cogeneration, renewable energy resources, BESS, thermal storage and the existing heat and electricity supplying networks. However, when planning a large residential town or city, the concrete plan of the energy infrastructure has not been established until the construction plan stage and provided by the individual energy suppliers of water, heat, electricity and gas. So, it is difficult to build the efficient energy portfolio considering the characteristics of town or city. This paper introduces an energy mix optimization(EMO) method to determine the optimal capacity of thermal and electric resources which can be applied in the design stage of the real large-scaled residential town or city, and examines the feasibility of the proposed method by applying the real heat and electricity demand data of large-scale residential towns with thousands of households and by comparing the result of HOMER simulation developed by National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL).

This paper proposes the OOPP(Optimized Online Portfolio Platform) design for the job seekers to search for the job competency necessary for employment and to write and manage portfolio online efficiently. The OOPP consists of three modules. First, JDCM(Job Data Collection Module) stores the help-wanted advertisements of job information sites in a spreadsheet. Second, CSM(Competency Statistical Model) classifies core competencies for each job by text-mining the collected help-wanted ads. Third, OBBM(Optimize Browser Behavior Module) makes users to look up data rapidly by improving the processing speed of a browser. In addition, The OBBM consists of the PSES(Parallel Search Engine Sub-Module) optimizing the computation of a Search Engine and the OILS(Optimized Image Loading Sub-Module) optimizing the loading of image text, etc. The performance analysis of the CSM shows that there is little difference in accuracy between the CSM and the actual advertisement because its data accuracy is 99.4~100%. If Browser optimization is done by using the OBBM, working time is reduced by about 68.37%. Therefore, the OOPP makes users look up the analyzed result in the web page rapidly by analyzing the help-wanted ads. of job information sites accurately.
