A study on the Residential Satisfaction of Environmental Condition for Housing Complexes located in Coastal Areas (연안역에 입지하는 주거단지 생활자의 거주환경 만족도에 관한 연구)

  • Regarding the developmental plans for the coastal areas and marine architectures, this study deal with the overall planning of apartment complexes in waterfront areas, focusing upon the analysis of their comfort and convenience factors from the perspective of the potential residence. It also analysis the intra-complex comfort and satisfaction conditions in terms of their floor-by-floor, directional. and location factors. The results of the study are as follows: 1) The order of respondents' preference on directional factor has been found to be: South > Southeast > Southwest > East > others. 2) 67% of the people surveyed on scenery responded that outward view is considered more significant than the directional factor. 3) A comprehensive analysis of floor zone-specific view preference shared that there were only minor differences among quay wall, arc, and river-seashore types. The impact of the characteristics of the marine environments turned out to be a greater point of consideration; showing that the other of floor-preference is: high-level > ultra-high level > middle level > low level.

A Study on the Revitalize Fishing Villages through the Analysis of Amenity Resources (어메니티자원 분석을 통한 어촌마을의 활성화 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Among the towns of GyeongJu and SamCheok on which I have surveyed about their amenity resources in 2010, I chose 5 towns that are close to the Eastsea to analyze the data and to devise how to revitalize fishing villages. And the results are as follows. 1. Although Yangbuk-myeon is geographically located to have all the aspects of fishing village, farming village, and mountain village, the resources utilized are mainly that of mountain village. There is need to utilize actively historical amenity resources like Munmudaewangreung of Yangbuk-myeon. 2. The use of amenity resources of Yangnam-myeon is centered on farm and mountain village. But if they utilize amenity resources of fishing villages of Eupcheon-port's neighborhood, it would be a big help for the revitalization of Yangnam-myeon which is depressed. 3. The fishing mackerels on boat of Gampo-eup Jeonchonri is a successful example of utilization of fishing village's amenity resources. However, there is need to utilize amenity resources of farming and mountain villages that are near to Gampo-eup, so it can attract visitors to stay longer. Particularly, the fishing villages of the East coast must develop 4 seasons program connecting the amenity resources of neighboring farm and mountain. 4. Geundeok-myeon is a town where they made the amenity resources of fishing village into tourist attractions. But considering the wide gap between Geundeok-myeon and neighboring fishing, farming and mountain villages that cannot get the advantage of development, there has to be some inducement in policy so every town can be developed evenly. 5. After analyzing how the towns utilize the amenity resources to make them tourist attraction, it is shown that Geundeok-myeon of SamCheok is the best town which is using fishing village's amenity resources well, and Yangnam-myeon and Yangbuk-myeon of GyeongJu are scarcely using them. About types of tourist attraction, the programs with scenic view of fishing village, with water-sport, and with Eco-experience are needed to improved.

Calculation of Water Level Variations and Extreme Waves in Busan Harbor due to Storm Surges (고조로 인한 부산항 해수면 변화 및 극한파랑의 산정)

  • Recently huge typhoons had attacked to the coastal waters in Korea and caused disastrous casualties in those area. There are some discussions on correction to the design parameters for the coastal structures. Wave transformation computations with the extreme waves are of value in planning and constructing engineering works, especially in coastal regions. Prediction of typhoon surge elevations is based primarily on the use of a numerical model in this study, since it is difficult to study these events in real time or with use of physical models. Wave prediction with a two dimensional numerical model for a site with complicated coastal lines and structures at the period of typhoon 'Maemi' is discussed. In order to input parameters for the extreme wave conditions, we analyzed the observed and predicted typhoon data. Finally we applied the model discussed above to the storm surge and extreme wave problem at Busan Harbor, the southeast coast of Korea. Effects of water level variation and transformation of the extreme waves in relation with the flooding in coastal waters interested are analyzed. We then mack an attempt to presen a basic hazard map for the corresponding site.

Optimal Radiation Port Arrangements for Hepatic Tumor using 3-dimensional Conformal Radiotherapy Planning (3차원입체조형방사선치료 계획 시 간종괴의 위치에 따른 최적 조사 방향의 결정)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the optimal beam arrangements for hepatic tumors, according to the location of the hepatic tumor and its relationship to organs at risk (OARs). The virtual gross tumor volumes were divided into four groups according to the Couinaud's classification. Several plans were made for each virtual target, and these plans were compared for the normal tissue complication probabilities (NTCP). For group I, NTCP improved as the number of the beam ports increased. However, plans with more than 5 ports had little advantage. For group II, plans with the beam directions from the anterior side showed better results. Group III contained many OARs near the target, which placed restrictions on the beam-directions. Multi-directional plans yielded a higher dose to the OARs than a simple two-port plan using right anterior oblique and posterior beam (RAO/PA). For group IV, a simple RAO/PA port plan was adequate for protection of remaining liver. NTCP can significantly vary between radiotherapy plans when the location of the tumor and its neighboring OARs are taken into consideration. The results in this study of optimal beam arrangements could be a useful set of guidelines for radiotherapy of hepatic tumors.

Application of Side Scan Sonar to Disposed Material Analysis at the Bottom of Coastal Water and River (해저 및 하저 폐기물의 분석을 위한 양방향음파탐사기의 적용)

  • Due to the growth of population and industrial development at the coastal cities, there has been much increase in necessity to effective control of the wastes into the coastal water and river. The amount of disposal at those waters has been increased rapidly and it is necessary for us to track of it in order to keep the water clean. The investigation and research related to the water quality in this region have been conducted continuously but the systematic survey of the disposed wastes at the bottom was neglected and/or minor. In this study we surveyed the status of disposed waste distribution at the bottom coastal water and river from the scanned images. The intensity of sound received by the side scan sonar tow vehicle from the sea floor provides information as to the general distribution and characteristics of the superficial wastes. The port and starboard side scanned images produced from a transducer borne on a tow fish connected by tow cable to a tug boat have the area with width of 22m∼112m, and band of 44m∼224m. All data are displayed in real-time on a high-resolution color display (1280 ${\times}$ 1024 pixels) together with position information by DGPS. From the field measurement and analysis of the recorded images, we could draw the location and distribution of bottom disposals. Furthermore, we made a database system which might be fundamental for planning the waste reception and process control system.

Finite Element Analysis of Flow and Water Quality in the New Harbor Site (신항만부지에서의 유동 및 수질에 관한 유한요소해석)

  • Water flow simulations for environmental problems often require local detailed analyses for better understanding and accurate prediction of the fate of pollutant in water bodies. This study deals with the development and application of a two-dimensional flow an dispersion model to the coastal water area to find out possible changes due to the wide port development plan. As far as the spatial discretization is concerned, the finite element method is attractive because of its flexibility and ability to naturally treat complex coastal geometries. The model uses finite element theory and the Galerkin weighted-residual approach as its basis. Developed model is applied to the Busan New harbor Construction site. Results from the model were compared with the measured water level and flows in four stations. The flow pattern by the model shows to be similar to the observed data away from the construction site where the flow is not affected. From the simulation results, it is concluded that the model may be useful for numerous other studies for planning and management purposes, especially flow and pollution dispersion in the coastal water bodies where the flow is so complicated.

  • Because of rapid expansion of third party logistics, fierce competition in the transportation industry, and the diversification and globalization of transportation channels, an effective transportation planning by means of multimodal transport is badly needed. Accordingly, this study aims to suggest an optimal transport algorithm for the multimodal transport in the international logistics. Cargoes and stopovers can be changed numerously according to the change of transportation modes, thus being a NP-hard problem. As a solution for this problem, first of all, we have applied a pruning algorithm to simplify it, suggesting a heuristic algorithm for constrained shortest path problem to find out a feasible area with an effective time range and effective cost range, which has been applied to the Label Setting Algorithm, consequently leading to multiple Pareto optimal solutions. Also, in order to test the efficiency of the algorithm for constrained shortest path problem, this paper has applied it to the actual transportation path from Busan port of Korea to Rotterdam port of Netherlands.

  • Study on Changes in Vessel Traffic Services Due to Introduction of Maritime Autonomous Surface ShipsThe development of technologies related to Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) has been actively progressing since the mid-2010s, focusing on themes such as collision avoidance, route planning, digital twin, and communication technologies. On the other hand, research on land-based infrastructure connected with MASS, such as logistics systems, port facilities, and vessel traffic services, has relatively received less attention. This study analyzed impact of emergence of MASS on existing vessel traffic service operations and proposed changes in control operations to prepare for its impact. To do this, current vessel traffic service operations were analyzed and elements of MASS technology that could affect vessel traffic control were identified. A survey was conducted among vessel traffic controllers to identify items related to the control of MASS. Results analyzed using the AHP method showed that preparation for emergency response and communication methods with MASS were the most important. Based on this, we were able to derive detailed plans for basic MASS control procedures and emergency response procedures based on data communication within maritime traffic control areas. MASS control procedures proposed in this study are expected to be used as a solution to resolve issues related to traffic safety of MASS in coastal areas.

  • The change of water level at Mokpo Harbour and its adjacent coastal area due to the construction of the Youngsan Estuary Barrage and the Third Land Reclamation Work of estuary barren had been roughly expected. Periodical floods, which occur 2 times per month, are also being observed at the low lying commercial areas near the Mokpo Old Harbor. Although it is said that the highest tidal current component among the tidal current records at the approaching channel to Mokpo Harbor is reduced to 6 kts, because of the esturary barrage, they do not give any precise statement or a deep analysis for the flooding and periodical water level change under certain environmental conditions. Moreover, they never tried the analysis of development plan considering the natural disaster such as typhoon or other extreme conditions. Thus, it is necessary to collect and analyze the data related to floodings, harbor oscillations, currents, and water quality , etc. because of the development considering the extreme condition.   • The increasing scourge of cancer epidemiology is a global concern. With WHO emphasizing that 40% of all cancer cases are preventable, exposure to known and suspected carcinogens must be discouraged. The battle with communicable diseases and other third world challenges has greatly de-emphasized anti-cancer campaigns in sub-Saharan Africa. The abundant deposit of mineral resources in sub-Saharan Africa has attracted high mining activity with its negative environmental aftermath. Poor regulatory mechanisms have led to environmental contamination by products of mining including heavy metals. In addition to poor urban planning, the springing up of settlements in industrial areas has led to generation and exposure to more hazardous wastes consequent on poor disposal systems. Studies establishing close association between exposure to heavy metals and cancer epidemiology in sub-Saharan Africa are increasing. The current review assesses the level of environmental pollution by heavy metals in sub-Saharan Africa, and brings to the fore available evidence implicating such in the increasing cancer epidemiology in the sub-continent.
