YSZ 박막의 성장속도와 특성에 미치는 전기화학증착의 조건의 영향(II) (Influences of Electrochemical Vapor Deposition Conditions on Growth Rate ad Characteristics of YSZ Thin films(II))

  • Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin films were prepared by the electrochemical vapor deposition (EVD) method on the porous Al2O3 substrates. Y2O3 mol% of thin film was linearly increased with yttrium mole fraction of vapor phase. As yttrium mole fraction(Zyc13=0.18) increased dense and faceted thin films were enhanced. However as the yttrium mole fraction (Zyc13=0.04) decreased porous thin films with monoclinnic phase prevailed. With increasing pressure difference of substrate sides penetration depth decreased porosity and amount of monoclinic phase in the films increased.

  • At the porous $La_{0.6}Ca_{0.4}MnO_{3-{\delta}}$(LCM)/YSZ electrodes of solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC), the electrochemical redox reaction of oxygen proceeds via the triple boundary (TPB) of gas/LCM/YSZ. The surface diffusion of adsorbed oxygen on LCM has been proposed as the rate determining process, assuming the gradient of oxygen chemical potential from the outer surface of porous layer to TPB. Along with the formation of this gradient, oxygen nonstoichiometry in the bulk of LCM may varies. In this paper, an electrochemical technique was described precisely to determine the variation of oxygen content in LCM of porous LCM/YSZ under polarization. It was shown that the oxygen potential in LCM layer under large cathodic polarization is much lower than that in the gas phase, being determined from the electrode potential and Nernst equation.

SOFC용 다공성 NiO-YSZ 음극소재의 강도향상에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Improvement of Strength in NiO-YSZ Porous Anode Material for Solid Oxide Fuel Cell)

  • 고체산화물 연료전지용 음극소재로 사용되는 다공성 NiO-YSZ 소재의 강도를 향상시키기 위하여 $Y_2$O$_3$첨가제의 양 및 기공전구체로 첨가되는 탄소첨가제의 종류를 변화시켰으며, 이에 따른 기계적 강도와 기공율, 전기전도도를 측정하였다. $Y_2$O$_3$첨가제의 양은 8 mol%와 10 mo1%로 각각 변화시켰으며, 기공전구체는 활성탄과 카본블랙의 영향을 고찰하였다. 그 결과 카본블랙을 기공전구체로 사용하였을 경우 활성탄을 사용한 경우에 비해 기계적 강도가 크게 향상되었으며, 상대적으로 고온의 소결온도에서 제조된 10 mo1%의 $Y_2$O$_3$가 첨가된 NiO-YSZ 음극소재가, 8 mol%가 첨가된 소재에 비하여 상대적으로 우수한 강도를 나타내었다. 10 mo1%의 $Y_2$O$_3$와 카본블랙이 첨가된 음극소재는 전기전도도 값에 있어서도 $700^{\circ}C$~100$0^{\circ}C$의 온도범위에서 $10^2$~$10^3$S/cm의 양호한 값을 나타내는 것으로 평가되었다.

  • Silver electrode having a high Electrocatalytic activity is oxygen-permeable electrode, in which oxygen ad-atoms are adsorbed and moved toward YSZ electrolyte by bulk diffusion. It is the different point in comparison to usual porous electrodes, especially platinum, which react with oxygen only in TPBs(Three Phase Boundaries). Also ad-atoms at TPBs of Pt are diffused to YSZ electrolyte by interfacial diffusion mechanism. These properties were used for turning down the operating temperature of YSZ from over $600^{\circ}C$ to below $450^{\circ}C$. The different heat-treatment temperature between a working electrode and a reference electrode suppresses the formation of silver oxides and reduces a volatility of Ag as well. Above all, these own characteristics and special processes of Ag improved a long-term stability of a oxygen sensor.

  • Yttria stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin films were prepared by the electrochemical vapor deposition (EVD) method on the porous Al2O3 substrates which were fabricated by different substrate thickness and porosity. Film growth rates decreased with increase on the substrate thickness and porosity and obeyed a parabolic rate law. Activa-tion energy calculated from the parabolic rate onstants was 69.9 kcal/mol. With increase on the deposition time, monoclinic phase was appeared and then disappeared. YSZ penetrated deeply into substrates when the EVD temperature decreased. Electrical conductivity of the films was 0.09 S/cm at 100$0^{\circ}C$ similar to the value of YSZ single crystal.

  • NiO-YSZ anode-supported single cell was prepared by spin-coating YSZ and LSM slurries as electrolyte and cathode, respectively. Dense YSZ electrolyte film was successfully prepared on the porous NiO-YSZ anode substrate by tuning pre-sintering temperature of NiO-YSZ and co-firing temperature. The thickness of YSZ film was controlled by the solid content of slurry and coating cycles. The experimental conditions affecting on the thickness of YSZ film was discussed. Single cells with the active electrode area ${\sim}0.8\;cm^2$ were prepared by spin-coating the cathode layers of LSM-YSZ mixture and LSM consequently as well. The effects of the pre-sintering temperature and thus the microstructure of NiO-YSZ substrate on the current-voltage characteristics of co-fired cell were investigated.

  • The Cu-Ni-YSZ cermet anodes for direct use of methane in solid oxide fuel cells have been fabricated by electroplating Cu into the porous Ni-YSZ cermet anode. The uniform distribution of Cu in the Ni-YSZ anode could be obtained via pulse electroplating in the aqueous solution mixture of $CuSO_4{\cdot}5H_{2}O$ and ${H_2}{SO_4}$ for 30 min with 0.05 A of average applied current. The power density ($0.17\;Wcm^{-2}$) of a single cell with a Cu-Ni-YSZ anode was shown to be slightly lower in methane at $700^{\circ}C$, compared with the power density ($0.28\;Wcm^{-2}$) of a single cell with a Ni-YSZ anode. However, the performance of the Ni-YSZ anode-supported single cell was abruptly degraded over 21 h because of carbon deposition, whereas the Cu-Ni-YSZ anode-supported single cell showed the enhanced durability upto 52 h.

졸-겔법에 의한 이트리안 안정화 지프코니아박막의 결정화 (Crystallization of Yttria-Stabilized-Zirconia Film by Sol-Gel Process)

  • Fabrication and crystallization characteristics of yttria($T_2O_3$) stabilized zirconia(YSZ) thin film by sol-gel process were studied. YSZ sol was synthesized with zirconium n-propoxide($Zr(OC_3H_7)_4)$) and yttrium nitrate pentahydrate ($Y(NO_3)_3.5H_2O$). YSZ film was prepared by depositing the polymeric sol on porous $Al_2O_3$ substrate by spin-coating, and the film characteristics were investigated by FRIR, TG-DTA, XRD, DSC, optical microscopy and SEM. The film topology was uniform and cracks were not found. It was found that the annealing temperature and the concentration of stabilizer affect the crystallization of YSZ film. The YSZ film began to crystallize from amorphous to tetragonal phase at 40$0^{\circ}C$, and it was not converted to cubic structure until $1100^{\circ}C$. It seemed that the grains were formed over $700^{\circ}C$and the average grain size was obtained about 0.2$\mu\textrm{m}$.
