  • Ocean heat fluxes over a wide region are generally estimated by an aerodynamic bulk fromula. Though a remote sensing technique can be expected to estimated global heat flux, it is difficult to obtain air temperature and specific humidity at sea surface by a remote sensor. In this study present a new method with which to determine near-sea surface air temperature from in situ data. Also, These methods compared with other methods. A new method used a linear regression equation between sea surface temperature and air temperature of the buoys data. In this study new method is validated using observed monthly mean data at the Japan Meteorological Agency(JMA), National Data Buoy Center(NDBC) and Tropical Ocean-Global Atmosphere(TOGA)-Tropical Atmosphere Ocean(TAO) buoys. The result that bias and rmse are 0.28, 1.5$0^{\circ}C$ respectively. The correlation coefficient is 0.98. Also, to retrieve near-sea surface specific humidity(Q) from good nonlinear regression relationship between vapor pressure(Ea) of buoy data and air temperature, after obtained the third-order polynomial function, compared with that of estimated from SSM/I empirical equation by Schussel et al(1995). The result that bias and rmse are -1.42 and 1.75(g/kg).

  • In recent years there has been a significant growth in the use of the automated and/or robotic welding system, carried out as a means of improving productivity and quality, reducing product costs and removing the operator from tedious and potentially hazardous environments. One of the major difficulties with the automated and/or robotic welding process is the inherent lack of mathematical models for determination of suitable welding process parameters. Partial-penetration, single-pass bead-on-plate welds were fabricated in 12mm AS 1204 mild steel flats employing five different welding process parameters. The experimental results were used to develop three empirical equations: curvilinear; polynomial; and linear equations. The results were also employed to find the best mathematical equation under weld bend width to assist in the process control algorithms for the Gas Metal Arc Welding(GMAW) process and to correlate welding process parameters with weld bead width of bead-on-plates deposited. With the help of a standard statistical package program. SAS, multipe regression analysis was undertaken for investigating and modeling the GMAW process, and significance test techniques were applied for the interpretation of the experimental data.

  • The aim of our research was to apply experimental design methodology in the optimization of N, N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline (RNO, which is indictor of OH radical formation) degradation using gas mixing-circulation plasma process. The reaction was mathematically described as a function of four independent variables [voltage ($X_1$), gas flow rate ($X_2$), liquid flow rate ($X_3$) and time ($X_4$)] being modeled by the use of the central composite design (CCD). RNO removal efficiency was evaluated using a second-order polynomial multiple regression model. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed a high coefficient of determination ($R^2$) value of 0.9111, thus ensuring a satisfactory adjustment of the second-order polynomial multiple regression model with the experimental data. The application of response surface methodology (RSM) yielded the following regression equation, which is an empirical relationship between the RNO removal efficiency and independent variables in a coded unit: RNO removal efficiency (%) = $77.71+10.04X_1+10.72X_2+1.78X_3+17.66X_4+5.91X_1X_2+3.64X_2X_3-8.72X_2X_4-7.80X{_1}^2-6.49X{_2}^2-5.67X{_4}^2$. Maximum RNO removal efficiency was predicted and experimentally validated. The optimum voltage, air flow rate, liquid flow rate and time were obtained for the highest desirability at 117.99 V, 4.88 L/min, 6.27 L/min and 24.65 min, respectively. Under optimal value of process parameters, high removal(> 97 %) was obtained for RNO.

  • Excessive use of the internet and smart phones have become a social issue. The level of engagement has both positive and negative effects such as good performance or indulgence phenomenon, respectively. This study was to develop an algorithm to determine the engagement state based on cardiovascular response. The participants were asked to play a pattern matching game and the experimental design was divided into cooperation and competition task to provide the level of engagement. The correlation between heart rate and amplitude was analyzed according to each task. The regression equation and accuracy were verified by polynomial regression analysis. The results showed that heart rate and amplitude were positively correlated when the task was a game, and negatively correlated when there was a reference task. The accuracy of classifying between game and reference task was 89%. The accuracy between tasks was confirmed to be 76.5%. This study is expected to be used to quantitatively evaluate the level of engagement in real time.

  • The densities and viscosities of 2-bromopropane-methanol binary mixtures had been determined using an digital vibrating U-tube densimeter and Ubbelohde capillary viscometer respectively from (298.15 to 318.15) K. The dependence of densities and viscosities on temperature and concentration had been correlated. The excess molar volume and the excess viscosity of the binary system were calculated from the experimental density and viscosity data. The excess molar volumes were related to compositions by polynomial regression and regression parameters and total RMSD deviations were obtained; the excess viscosities was related to compositions by Redlich-Kister equation and regression coefficients and total RMSD deviation of the excess viscosity for 2-bromopropane and methanol binary system were obtained. The results showed that the model agreed very well with the experimental data.

  • While using the hydrogen mixture gas torch, the glass edge sealing and the shape of the edge sealing parts is affected by many parameters such as flow rate of gas, traveling speed of torch, distance between glass and torch. As the glass edge sealing shape have effects on the insulation and airtightness and strength of the glass panel; the sealing shapes are predicted according to the process parameters. The paper highlight the nonlinear regression equations of the cross-sectional shape of the sealing shape according to the parameters, that is experimentally predicted later compared and verified the equation with the experimental result.

  • Observations on the seedling growth of red pepper responding to different temperature(10, 20, 3$0^{\circ}C$) and light intensity(5, 15, 25 klux) were made in the growth Chamber during 7 weeks. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Best results of the combinations of temperature and light intensity were obtained from the combinated treatment of 3$0^{\circ}C$ and 25klux. At all of the temperature levels in this experiment, the more the light intensity is high, the more the growth is favor, but at low temperature below 2$0^{\circ}C$ and low light intensity below 15 klux, the growth of red pepper seedlings was decreased markedly. 2. Multiple regression polynomial equations of the characteristics of red pepper seedlings grown in the different combinations of temperature and light intensity fitted well in the plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, stem dry weight and shoot dry weight. 3. Multiple regression polynomial equation to the shoot dry weight was partial differentiated and diagrammatized the response surface using its theoretical value. Light intensity affected more to the shoot dry weight in the temperature below 2$0^{\circ}C$ but above 2$0^{\circ}C$ the role of the temperature showed greatly influence however, interaction effects of light intensity and temperature showed strongly.

  • PURPOSES : A geo-grid pavement, e.g., a stress-absorbing membrane interlayer (SAMI), can be applied to an asphalt-overlay method on the existing surface-pavement layer for pavement maintenance related to reflection cracking. Reflection cracking can occur when a crack in the existing surface layer influences the overlay pavement. It can reduce the pavement life cycle and adversely affect traffic safety. Moreover, a failed overlay can reduce the economic value. In this regard, the objective of this study is to evaluate the bonding properties between the rigid pavement and a SAMI by using the direct shear test and the pull-off test. The predicted fractural energy functions with the shear stress were determined from a numerical analysis of the moving average method and the polynomial regression method. METHODS : In this research, the shear and pull-off tests were performed to evaluate the properties of mixtures constructed using no interlayer, a tack-coat, and SAMI with fabric and without fabric. The lower mixture parts (describing the existing pavement) were mixed using the 25-40-8 joint cement-concrete standard. The overlay layer was constructed especially using polymer-modified stone mastic asphalt (SMA) pavement. It was composed of an SMA aggregate gradation and applied as the modified agent. The sixth polynomial regression equation and the general moving average method were utilized to estimate the interlayer shear strength. These numerical analysis methods were also used to determine the predictive models for estimating the fracture energy. RESULTS : From the direct shear test and the pull-off test results, the mixture bonded using the tack-coat (applied as the interlayer between the overlay layer and the jointed cement concrete) had the strongest shear resistance and bonding strength. In contrast, the SAMI pavement without fiber has a strong need for fractural energy at failure. CONCLUSIONS : The effects of site-reflection cracking can be determined using the same tests on cored specimens. Further, an empirical-mechanical finite-element method (FEM) must be done to understand the appropriate SAMI application. In this regard, the FEM application analy pavement-design analysis using thesis and bonding property tests using cored specimens from public roads will be conducted in further research.

  • The inflence of hydrophilic vehicles on percutaneous absorption rate of griseofulvin was studied using intact skin of full thickness of hairless rat. The in vitro absorption rates were used as the characteristics for deciding the optimum formula of ointment vehicles. The optimum formula of vehicle compositions for maximum absorption rate was obtained from the polynomial regression equation and the two graphical techniques, contour graph and partial derivative graph. It was composed of sodium lauryl sulfate (1.65 W /W%), white petrolatum (16.5 W /W%), propylene glycol (12.0 W /W%), and stearyl alcohol (19.6W /W%). The experimental value obtained from the optimum formula and the prediction value were 33.99 and 33.87 ${\mu}g/\sqrt{min}$, respectively. From these results, it was believed that optimum formula for semisolid dosage forms could be obtained from the application of the optimization technique used in this study.

  • A method is developed for the separation of the major base flow in a river hydrograph combining the numerical techniques and the empirical methods. The linearized Boussinesq equation and the storage function are used to obtain the base flow recession. The shape of base flow curve made by the recharge of the groundwater table aquifer resulting from rainfall in determined by the Singh and Stall's graphical method, and the continuous from for the curve is approximated by the multiple and polynomial regression. this procedure was successfully tested for the separation of base flow and the establishment of hydrograph in a natural watershed. It was found that the direct numerical method applied to the homogeneous linear second order ordinary differential equation system is not suited to obtain the recession curve, and the case that the loss is generated in the partially penetrating stream can not be solved by the method of this study.
