이온성고분자-금속복합체를 이용한 유연고분자 구동체의 표면특성 개선과 구동성 향상 (Surface Electrode Modification and Improved Actuation Performance of Soft Polymeric Actuator using Ionic Polymer-Metal Composites)

  • 이온성고분자-금속복합체(Ionic Polymer Metal Composites, IPMC)는 전기활성 고분자이며, 낮은 구동전압에서도 큰 변위를 나타내는 유연한 스마트 소재(soft smart material)이다. 이온성고분자-금속복합체의 표면전극 제조는 일반적으로 화학적 환원방법(무전해 전기도금)에 의해 제조되고 있지만, 이러한 방법에서는 그 재료가 다공성 고분자 막으로 표면이 균일한 전극을 제조하기에 어려움이 있다. 본 연구에서는 전극의 표면 저항을 감소시켜 응답속도를 증가시킴과 동시에 낮은 전압에서 큰 변위를 낼 수 있는 IPMC 제조방법을 고안하여 수행하였다. 화학적 환원방법으로 이온고분자-금속 복합체를 형성시킨 후, 이온빔보조증착법(Ion Beam Assisted Deposition)으로 균질한 표면 전극 층을 형성시켜 화학적 특성을 개선하여 전기적 자극에 의한 구동반응 속도를 향상시킬 수 있는 구동체 제조방법을 제안하였다.

교대배열 PVA 젤 섬유를 이용한 고분자 색전 코일 제조 (Preparation of Coil-Embolic Material Using Syndiotactic Poly(vinyl alcohol) Gel Spun Fibers)

  • 고분자 색전 코일을 제조하기 위하여 교대배열 PVA(s-PVA) 용액을 제조하고 젤방사 조건의 최적화를 위해 고분자용액의 유변학적 특성을 분석하였다. 현탁중합을 통해 비누화도 99%, 교대배열기 함량 56%인 s-PVA를 제조하였고 고분자 용액의 농도에 따른 점도 변화 측정을 통해 최적의 방사농도를 13 wt%로 선정하였다. S-PVA 젤 섬유의 연신비에 따른 구조, 형태, 인장 특성을 측정하였다. S-PVA 젤 섬유의 연신비가 증가함에 따라 인장강도가 증가하였고, 최대 연신비인 15배 연신하였을 때 인장강도는 580 MPa이었고 절단신도는 연신비가 증가함에 따라 감소하는 경향을 나타냈다. S-PVA 젤 섬유는 연신비에 따라 결정구조가 발달하고 배향도가 증가하는 경향을 나타내었다. 색전 코일 제조 시의 열처리온도에 따른 코일의 형태 안정성을 살펴 본 결과 열처리온도가 높을수록 코일의 형태안정성이 우수하였으며 금속 색전 코일로 제조되는 1차 코일 및 2차 코일 형태를 s-PVA 섬유를 이용해 제조하였고 이를 통해 금속 색전 코일의 고분자로의 대체 가능성을 확인하였다.

  • Out door exposure to daylight and weather climate conditions can cause adverse effect on the properties of automotive plastic materials. The effects of sunlight exposure, especially ultra violet (UV) radiation, can break down the chemical bonds in a polymeric material. This degradation process is called photo-degradation and ultimately leads to color changes, cracking, chalking, the loss of physical properties and deterioration of other properties. To explore the effect of sunlight exposure on the automotive materials, this study investigated photo-oxidation degree and surface property change of molding parts by analytical methods. For the further study, accelerated weathering test methods are proposed, which can correlate with out door weathering, to predict long term performance of automotive plastic materials.

Preparation and Investigation on Swelling and Drug Delivery Properties of a Novel Silver/Salep-g-Poly(Acrylic Acid) Nanocomposite Hydrogel

  • Novel silver/salep-g-poly(acrylic acid) nanocomposite hydrogel were prepared in aqueous solution using poly(acrylic acid) grafted onto salep as a biopolymer based material. FT-IR spectra confirmed that poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) had been grafted onto salep in graft copolymerization reaction. TEM observations showed that silver nanoparticles have been uniformly dispersed in polymeric matrix. Effects of pH, acrylic acid (AA) amount and silver ion concentration on swelling capabilities were investigated. Results indicate that modifying AA and silver ion can improve swelling properties of the resultant nanocomposite hydrogel. pH response of this nanocomposite hydrogel in acidic and neutral pH made it suitable for drug delivery applications.

  • In the region of high temperature, a very appreciable short-circuit current Is was observed from M1(A1)-P(PET)-M2(Cu) system sandwitched with hetero metals without applying external field. The short-circuit current Is is greatly dependent on electrode material and it has been certified by measuring open-circuit voltage. From these experimental results, we can see that Is is due to electro-chemical action in M-P interface. In this electro-chemical reaction,the generation reaction and the solution reacftion of the oxidies from electrode are probably co-exist and the measured values of the open-circuit voltage was almost correspond to those calculated from Nernst equation.

  • The purpose of this experiment is to prepare ethylene propylene diene terpolymer(EPDM)/ acrylonitrile butadiene rubber(NBR) blend which represents good environmental resistant properties including favorable oil and ozone resistance. With incorporation of EPDM, NBR and other ingredients, the rubber and chemical additives were mixed by mechanical method such as Banbury mixer and open 2-roll mill. Then rubber vulcanizates were manufactured by hot press and mechanical properties, oil and ozone resistance of the test specimens were measured. The oil resistance and ozone resistance of EPDM and NBR, respectively, is remarkably improved by blending EPDM with NBR. The optimum results of oil and zone resistant characteristics were obtained at EPDM/NBR(=25/75 wt%) composition ratio.

Preparation, Properties and Application of Polyamide/Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposites

  • The discovery of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) has opened up exciting opportunities for the development of novel materials with desirable properties. The superior mechanical properties and excellent electrical conductivity make CNTs a good filler material for composite reinforcement. However, the dispersal of CNTs in a polymer solution or melt is difficult due to their tendency to agglomerate. Many attempts have been made to fully utilize CNTs for the reinforcement of polymeric media. Therefore, different types of polymer/CNTs nanocomposites have been synthesized and investigated. This paper reviews the current progress in the preparation, properties and application of polyamide/CNTs(nylon/CNTs) nanocomposites. The effectiveness of different processing methods has increased the dispersive properties of CNTs and the amelioration of their poor interfacial bonding. Moreover, the mechanical properties are significantly enhanced even with a small amount of CNTs. This paper also discusses how reinforcement with CNTs improves the electrical thermal and optical properties of nylon/CNTs nanocomposites.

온도변화에 대한 고분자 코팅 층에 발생하는 응력 해석 (Analysis of Stresses Induced in a Polymer Coating Layer due to Temperature Change)

  • This paper deals with the stress singularity developed in a polymer layer that is coated to a concrete surface, due to temperature change. The boundary element method is employed to investigate the behavior of interface stresses. The polymeric layer is assumed to be a linear viscoelastic material, and is thermorheologically simple. The order of the singularity is obtained, numerically, for a given viscoelastic model. Numerical results exhibit the relaxation of interface stresses, and large gradients are observed in the vicinity of the free surface. Results show that the stress singularity factor is relaxed with time, while the order of the singularity increases with time for the viscoelastic model.

이력이 고분자 재료 안으로의 확산 및 용해에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Previous History on Diffusivity and Solubility of Gas in the Polymer Matrix)

  • An important process for making a new class of polymeric material is called microcellular plastics invented at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Many researches for microcellular plastics have been done in various ways and fields. But a research for the polymer which has previous history has not been tried yet. In this paper, weight gain of $CO_2$ was measured in a polymer matrix which had previous history and no history. In each case, experimental data for solubility and diffusivity was shown. A model for $CO_2$ solution process in molecular range was made. The conclusion of this paper is that the previous history has an effect on diffusivity but not solubility and the previous history made by $CO_2$ in supercritical state makes diffusivity of $CO_2$ larger.
