  • The critical current density, electrical conductivity, critical magnetic field, Meissner effect, apparent density, and microstructure of YBa2Cu3O7-x ceramic superconductor prepared by polymeric precursor, while varing calcining and sintering conditions, were investigated. The best superconducting properties could be obtained from the body sintered at 93$0^{\circ}C$ for 10h after calcining at 90$0^{\circ}C$ for 10h, which gave 383A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ of critical current density(Jc), 96K of onset temperature(Tonset), 94. 8K of zero temperature (Tzero) 225 Oe of critical magnetic field (Hc1), 72.8% of superconducting volume fraction measured by Meissner effect and 6.28g/㎤ of apparent density.

  • Synthesis of novel polymeric ligands based on myo-inositol was performed. Cyclopolymerization, whose mechanism and the cyclic structure were proved, was first attempted to build a conformationally rigid inositol polymer. Comparative spectroscopic methods were introduced to verify the conformation of the prepared cyclohexane polymers. A conformationally rigid polymeric ligand was successfully prepared using myo-inositol carbonate.

  • Ultrafiltration is known to be one of the most commonly applied techniques in water treatment. Membrane fouling is the main limiting factor in terms of process efficiency and restricting it to the manageable degree is crucial. Natural organic matter is often found to be a major foulant in surface waters. Among many known fouling prevention techniques, the membrane chemical cleaning is widely employed. This study focuses on evaluating the cleaning efficiency of polymeric and ceramic membranes with the use of various chemicals. The influence of cleaning agent type and its concentration, membrane material and its MWCO, and cleaning process duration on the recovery of membrane flux was analyzed. Results have shown that, regardless of membrane type and MWCO, the most effective cleaning agent was NaOH.

  • By electrodeposition (ED) using a monomeric- and two polymeric coupling agents, the interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of carbon fiber/epoxy composites was investigated by fragmentation test. ED results were compared with the dipping and the untreated cases under dry and wet conditions. Multi-fiber composites (MFC) were used for the direct comparison for the untreated and the treated cases. Various treating conditions including time, concentration and temperature were evaluated, respectively. Under dry and wet conditions ED treatment exhibited much higher IFSS improvement compared to the dipping and the untreated cases. Monomeric- and polymeric coupling agents exhibited the comparative IFSS improvement. Adsorption mechanism between coupling agents and carbon fiber was analyzed in terms of the electrolyte molecular interactions during ED process based on to the chain mobility. The microfailure modes occurring from the fiber break, matrix and interlayer cracks were correlated to IFSS.

  • We have synthesized various types of poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG)-ibuprofen conjugates by nucleophilic substitution of bromo-terminated PEG with ibuprofen-Cs salt. The conversion of the terminal hydroxyl groups to bromo-termini was quantitative, as was the drug conjugation process, which suggests that the present synthetic method is very useful for the preparation of PEG-based prodrugs from pharmaceuticals having carboxyl functionalities. The drug-release behavior of the prodrugs was examined in both phosphate buffer (PBS, pH 7.4) and rat plasma. From the drug-release behavior in PBS, we determined that each prodrug has high storage stability. The drug-release rate was observed to be much faster in rat plasma than in buffer solution as a result of the acceleration effect provided by enzymes present in the plasma. The drug-release rate in rat plasma depends on the degree of molecular aggregation of the prodrugs, which can be changed effectively by the nature of their spacer groups or by the use of Pluronic as the polymer carrier.

  • In this paper, we investigated the surface degradation of HTV silicone rubber used for a polymeric insulator by UV irradiation. To study the surface ageing properties by W irradiation, we used the corona discharge charging and contact angle. Therefore, we observed the change of surface charge retention and decrease of surface hydrophobicity. Also, we discussed the chemical change in the surface range using the analytic equipment such as SEM, ATR-FTIR, ESCA. Therefore, it is found that the scissor of characteristic bonding and the reattachment of oxidant bonding was developed by UV rays radiation. As discussing the corona ischarge charging and the change of contact angle, it is found the effect of UV irradiation and the mechanism of chemical reaction

  • The sealing integrity is related to the safe operation of arrester the prime failure reason of porcelain housed arresters is moisture ingress. To be a meaningful tests a polymer arrester sealing test must be a realistic acceleration of field service. We think the test should be an accelerating course of actual temperatures, the enduring property to mechanical load and temperatures should be considered together. A union test method consisting of the thermal mechanical test and thermal cycling test is proposed to test the sealing integrity of polymeric arresters, which uses dielectric loss, leakage current 1mA DC voltage and partial discharge as the diagnostic techniques, and the test results were presented. The comparison states that the TMTCUT method is suitable fur the test of sealing integrity of polymeric arresters. .

  • A glucose biosensor using a microdisk resonator in polymeric waveguides was developed by observing either the shift in the resonant wavelength or the variation in the optical power. The deformation in the transfer curve of the vertically coupled resonator sensor resulting from the variation in the disk-to-ring coupling, which was incurred by the application of the target analyze, was suppressed. And the refractive index of the polymeric waveguide was devised to closely follow that of the analyze itself for enhancing the sensitivity of the sensor. The sensitivity and measurement range were observed to be respectively 0.14 pm/(mg/dL) and 1500 mg/dL (theoretically up to 4700 mg/dL, for the wavelength shift method and 0.04 dB/(mg/dU and 140 mg/dL the power variation scheme.

  • Spheres of silicon resins with different compositions were prepared in one-step reaction from mixtures of water and water-insoluble precursors of polysiloxanes (PSO) and polysilsesquioxanes (PSQ) using different amines as catalysts. The presence of PSO and PSQ in the spheres was confirmed by their mechanical properties and FTIR spectroscopy. Spheres of pure PSO were obtained from only dimethoxymethylvinylsiloxane (DMMVS) and 3-mercaptopropylmethyldimethoxysilan (MPMDMS) when the reaction was induced with appropriate catalysts. DMMVS and MPMDMS always gave the most promising results regarding the formation of discrete solid spheres with the minimum tendency to form monolithic solids or fluid-like, premature products. The spheres were characterized by optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The mixtures containing larger amounts of PSO precursors commonly gave lower yields and softer spheres.
