  • Cyclic deformations of polymer foam film are simulated using the finite element method. Material of polymer foam film is polypropylene (PP). The calculated polymer foam film is micro-scale thin film has cellular structure. The polymer foam film is used in ferro-electret applications. The polymer foam film is idealized to one cell structure as lens shaped stretched truncated octahedron model. Cyclic deformation is performed by uniaxial stretching. Stretching direction is perpendicular to plane of cellular film. Various cyclic strain amplitudes, pore wall thicknesses, pore shape are investigated to find deformation tendency of cellular structure. Consequently, cellular structure has various macroscopic stresses on cyclic deformation with various pore thickness and pore shape.

Preparation of Molecularly Imprinted Polymers Using Photocross-linkable Polyphosphazene and Selective Rebinding of Amino Acids

  • A photocrosslinkable polyphosphazene was used for molecular imprinting. We synthesized polyphosphazene (3) having urea groups for complexation with N-carbobenzyloxyglycin (Z-Gly-OH, template) and chalcone groups for cross-linking reaction. As substituents, 4-hydroxycha1cone (1) and N-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-N'-ethylurea (2) were prepared. Choloro groups of poly(dichlorophosphazene) were replaced by the sequential treatment with sodium salts of compounds 1 and 2, and trifluoroethanol. The template molecule was complexed with the urea groups on the polymer chains via hydrogen bonding. A thin polymer film was prepared by casting a solution of the complex of polymer 3 and the template in dimethylformamide on a quartz cell and irradiated with 365 nm UV light to yield a cross-linked film with a thickness of about $16{\mu}m$. The template molecules in the film were removed by Soxhlet extraction with methanol/acetic acid. The control polymer film was prepared in the same manner for the preparation of the imprinted polymer film, except that the template and triethylamine were omitted. In the rebinding test, the imprinted film exhibited much higher recognition ability for the template than the control polymer. We also investigated the specific recognition ability of the imprinted polymer for the template and its structural analogues. The rebinding tests were conducted using Z-Glu-OH, Z-Asp($O^tBu$)-OH, and Z-Glu-OMe. The imprinted film showed higher specific recognition ability for the template and the lowest response for Z-Asp($O^tBu$)-OH.

Control of Wavelength Dispersion of Birefringence by Miscible Polymer Blends

  • The wavelength dispersion of birefringence (or retardation) is very important property for optical use of polymer films. Birefringence free film and retardation film have been widely used for applications such as liquid crystal display (LCD). In this study, miscible polymer blends which consist of polymers of positive and negative birefringence were found. By operating composition and orientation of molecules in the transparent blend films, the behavior of wavelength dispersion of birefringence (retardation) was controlled. The applicability to wideband birefringence free film and quarter wave (retardation) film was discussed.

고분자압출의 공정변수가 통기성필름강도에 미치는 영향 (Influence of Process Parameters on the Breathable Film Strength of Polymer Extrusion)

  • Optimization of process parameters in polymer extrusion is an important task to reduce manufacturing cost. To determine the optimum values of the process parameters, it is essential to find their influence on the strength of polymer breathable thin film. The significance of six important process parameters namely, extruder cylinder temperature, extruder speed, extruder dies temperature, cooling roll temperature, stretching ratio, stretching roll temperature on breathable film strength of polymer extrusion was determined. Moreover, this paper presents the application of Taguchi method and analysis of variance (ANOVA) for maximization of the breathable film strength influenced by extrusion parameters. The optimum parameter combination of extrusion process was obtained by using the analysis of signal-to-noise ratio. The conclusion revealed that extruder speed and stretching ratio were the most influential factor on the film strength, respectively. The best results of film strength were obtained at higher extruder speed and stretching ratio.

  • In various manufacturing industries, an in-mold decoration (IMD) process for plastic objects is widely utilized because a film forming and an injection molding processes run simultaneously. In the present study, the deformation of polymer film and filling of resin in the IMD process were numerically investigated to evaluate the quality of the plastic object formed by the IMD process, which consists of thermoforming and injection molding processes. To obtain the initial shape of the polymer film during the injection molding process, the deformation of the polymer film in the thermoforming process was pre-formed using the vacuum conditions to attach the film to a cavity. Since the properties and deformation of polymer film are greatly affected by the behavior of polymer resin being injected into a mold cavity, numerical simulations for the injection molding and film forming were performed with one-way coupling method. The results showed that the injected resin could lead to the tearing of the polymer film in local regions near the corners. In order to verify the proposed numerical methodology, the numerical results of the deformation patterns printed on the initial polymer film were compared with the experimental data. The proposed methodology to couple film forming analysis with injection molding analysis can be used to predict the deformation of film in IMD process.

OLED 소자의 특성에 미치는 밀봉 버퍼용 고분자박막의 영향 (The Effect of Polymer Thin Film for Sealing Buffer on the Characteristics of OLEO Device)

  • In this paper, the LiF and polymer thin film as passivation layer have been evaporated on green OLED devices. HDPE, polyacenaphthylene, polytetrafluoroethylene, poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-pheneylene oxide), poly sulfone and poly(dimer-acid-co-alkyl poly-amine) have been used as polymer materials. The optical transmittance of evaporated polymer thin film was very good as an above 90% in visible range. The morphology of polymer thin film was measured by AFM. As a result of the measurement average roughness($R_a$) value of the polysulfone was very low as 2.2 nm. The green OLED devices with a structure of ITO/HIL/HTL/EML/Buffer/Al in series of various passivation films were fabricated and analyzed. It was observed that an OLED device with LiF as first passivation film has shown the good electrical and optical property, and all kind of polymer films did not influence on the I-V-L characteristics and the life time of OLED devices. Therefore, we found that polymer layer played a key role as a buffer layer between the inorganic passivation layers to relieve the stress of the inorganic layers.

  • The Polymer/MWCNT composite films were fabricated by air-spray method under the 2 kg/$cm^2$ pressure using the multi-walled CNTs solution and the polymer on a $50{\mu}m$ kepton film substrates. We obtained the composite films which were sprayed with the MWCNT dispersion. In order to analysis the microstructure for the fabricated Polymer/MWCNT film, we used the X-ray diffraction (XRD) and SEM.

Thickness Dependence of the Glass Transition Temperature in Thin Polymer Films

  • In this study the glass transition temperature in thin polymer films has been studied. Ellipsometry has been used to measure $T_{g}$ of thin film as a function of film thickness. Empirical equation has been proposed to fit the measured $T_{g}$ pattern with thickness. Also, a continuous multilayer model was proposed and derived to describe the effect of surface on the observed $T_{g}$ reduction in thin films, and the depth-dependent $T_{g}$ profile was obtained. These results showed that $T_{g}$ at the top surface was much lower than the bulk $T_{g}$ and gradually approached the bulk $T_{g}$ with increasing distance from the edge of the film. The model and equation were modified to apply for the polymer coated on the strongly favorable substrate and the freely standing film.

Synthesis and characterization of new liquid crystalline polymer for in-cell retardation film

  • A new rod-like liquid crystalline monomer having divinyl terminal groups was synthesized and polymerized by using thiol-ene UV polymerization technique. High quality thin film with good retardation value was prepared on a rubbed alignment layer without the inert gas purging. The retardation value of the resulting film was controlled by experimental conditions such as spin speed, concentration, and spin time. From the retardation value and thickness measurement, ${\bigtriangleup}n$ was calculated to be 0.169 for the resulting film having thickness of 815.1 nm.
