대전제어제를 이용한 polymer bead의 특성 변화에 관한 연구

  • 대전제어제를 이용하여 양과 음의 전하량을 가지는 토너 입자를 제조하였다. polymer bead와 대전제어제를 각각 용매에 녹인 후 중합하였으며 토너 입자의 크기는 약 $8{\mu}m$로 제조되었고 제조된 토너 입자의 전하질량비를 측정하기 위하여 polymer bead의 전하량과 대전제어제가 중합된 토너 입자의 전하질량비를 측정하여 비교하였다. 양의 전하량을 갖는 토너 입자는 약 34.12uC/g로 측정되었고, 음의 전하량을 갖는 토너 입자는 약 -22.5uC/g으로 측정되었으며, 또한 대전제어제가 가지는 양과 음의 특성에 따라 polymer bead의 특성 또한 바뀌는 것을 관찰 할 수 있었다.

Spacing Method Suitable for Flexible Cholesteric LCDs

  • In order to find out LC cell spacing method suitable for flexible cholesteric LCDs with high mechanical stability, we carried out bending and mechanical shock tests by using various spacing techniques: bead spacer, photo spacer, polymer wall with bead spacer and polymer wall with photo spacer. As a result, it was found that the spacing method using polymer wall incorporated with photo spacer is the best for flexible cholesteric LCDs in terms of mechanical stability. The investigation is discussed in detail.

  • The effects of reactant composition on the particle size distribution, synthetic yield, and density of Phenol-formaldehyde bead were examined in the synthesis of resol-type phenolic resin. Decrease of the content of DI water as dispersion media can increase the viscosity of suspension, which may cause the difference of particle size distribution and aggregation. The average particle size of synthesized beads was also decreased with the increasing content of stabilizer which can affect the interfacial area. The amount of crosslinking agent showed no effect on the size distribution and synthetic yield, but it made a decrease in the density of synthesized bead due to the macropore in the bead.

  • After general introduction for hyperbranched polymers, hyperbranched polysiloxysilanes (HBPS) were introduced as new functional polymers. Vinyl terminated HBPS was synthesized starting from AB2 type monomer by hydrosilylation reaction. Vinyl group can be converted various functional groups such as carboxylic acid and alcohol. HBPS had strong interaction to inorganic surface. As an example of this phenomenon, silica gel bead for HPLC was modified with thermo sensitive polymers. The resulting bead was successfully applied to Green Chronatography.

Manufacturing of Flexible Patterned Cover Film for Solar Cell by Solution Coating (용액 코팅을 이용한 태양전지용 고분자 유연 패턴필름 제조)

  • The flexible patterned cover film was made by a simple solution coating process using polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) solution with glass beads. The effect of patterned cover film on the efficiency of solar cell has been investigated. It was found that the relative solar cell efficiency increased up to 3.4% with the incident light angle between $0-90^{\circ}$ by the sphere shape of glass bead coated on the film surface. This was understood that the loss of transmittance and scattering due to the light directional dependency on solar cell were minimized because the light entered glass beads normal to its surface regardless of incident light angle. The maximum relative solar cell efficiency was achieved when glass bead shape on the film is hemisphere and the relative efficiency increased with increasing the amount of glass bead on the film surface. However, too much glass beads on the film surface resulted in the lower relative solar cell efficiency due to the lowering of transmittance as well as the occurring of light interference.

  • Chitin, the natural polymer has been known as harmless and innoxious material to human and has been also known to be biodegradable. Chitosan which was prepared by the deacetylation of chitin, was propionylated to obtain porous bead shaped propionyl chitosan and its possibility as a water-absorbant polymer was investigated. Propionyl chitosan porous bead was synthesized by acylation reaction using emulsion method of acetic acid solution and propionyl chitosan was partially crosslinked using ethyleneglycol diglycidyl ether. Through the experiment varying the moles of propionic anhydride, reaction time and reaction temperature, best results for water-absorption ability was obtained at reaction condition of 5 moles of propionic anhydride, 10 hours of reaction time and $22^{\circ}C$ of reaction temperature. The absorption ability to the distilled water, various salt solutions, artificial urine and artificial blood, absorption time and retention of water of synthesized porous bead were investigated and also mechanical strength after crosslinking was determined.

A research about micro size polymer bead injecting process based on electrostatic force (정전기력 기반의 마이크로 사이즈 폴리머 비드 주입 공정 연구)

  • This research proposal is based on a novel non-contact technique of micro-sized bead injection process for fabrication of electronic paper display. This non-contact injection process is based on the principle of electrostatic force and uses micro-sized metal-coated beads dispersed in a solution. The dispersion retention times of three different solutions with viscosities of 10 cps, 100 cps, and 1000 cps were measured by optical equipment showing the retention times of 5 mins, 10 mins, and 30 mins respectively. The dispersion retention rate dropped as the time passed. The dispersion retention characteristic of 1000 cps solution was more stable as compared to those of 10 cps and 100 cps meaning that higher viscosity has better retention properties. The experimental results of bead injection at different viscosity levels of the solution were also measured and a stable injection result was achieved by using 1000 cps solution. This results show that stable injection is dependent on solution viscosity and dispersion.

Synthesis and Characteristics of Hyaluronic Acid Bead Crosslinked by 1,3-Butadiene diepoxide (1,3-Butadiene diepoxide에 의해 가교된 히아루론산 비드의 제조 및 특성)

  • Hyaluronic acid-based beads were prepared in order to develop a biomedical material for augumentation. Hyaluronic acid was crosslinked by 1,3-butadiene diepoxide in a suspension state maintained by rapid mixing of soybeen oil and hyaluronic acid solution. The particle size, surface area and swelling ratio were measured to investigate the physical properties of the synthesized beads and the bead surface was examined by scanning electron microscopy. The beads were formed in the range of $5-12vol\%$ concentration of crosslinking agent, which showed monodisperse size distribution. Both BET surface area and swelling ratio decreased as the concentration of either hyaluronic acid or crosslinking agent increased, and crosslinking temperature decreased. Bead size could be effectively controlled by mixing speed without affecting other physical property.

Effect of Biochar bead on Adsorption of Heavy Metals

  • In recent years, biochar has received much attention as soil amendment, enhancing soil fertility and reducing toxicity of heavy metals with its large specific surface area and high pH. Biochar has also the effect of alleviating global warming by carbon sequestration from recycling organic wastes by pyrolysis. However, scattering of fine particles of biochar is a hindrance to expand its use from human health point-of-view. Alginate, a natural polymer without toxicity, has been used for capsulation and hydrogel fabrication due to its cross-linking nature with calcium ion. In this study, the method of cross-linkage between alginate and calcium ion was employed for making dust-free biochar bead. Then an equilibrium adsorption experiment was performed for verifying the adsorption effect of biochar bead on heavy metals (cadmium, copper, lead, arsenic, and zinc). Results showed that biochar bead had effects on adsorbing heavy metals, especially lead, except arsenic.

  • The objective of this study was to improve the defects of lightweight cement concrete by treating with redispersible polymer powders. The statistical relationships of water-cement ratios, contents of lightweight aggregates and polymer powers and be used for predicting the concrete strength. It was found that the varieties and techniques adopted in this experiment were capable of identifying the influence of various tested for air contents, flow test, water absorption, specific gravity, flexural and compressive strength. This study showed that fundamental properties were very affected by cement- lightweight aggregate ratio, polymer-cement ratio and water-cement ratio.
