Prediction of NOx emission for marine gas engines (선박용 가스엔진의 NOx 배출량예측에 관한 연구)

  • Natural gas for marine diesel engine is considered as an important and clean source of energy because of simultaneously reducing the emission of NOx, SOx and GHG. Especially with a appearance of shale gas, the using of natural gas has been investigated aggressively and expected to expand rapidly. By the reports, gas engine and diesel engine were both in a similar performance in the power aspect, and the SFOC of gas engine was shown a little better than that of diesel engine. But the characteristics of exhaust gas emission were different according to various combustion technologies. And with lean burn technology, the emission of NOx could be reduced to 85% lower than that of diesel engine. In this paper, it was described that a simulation program has been developed to predict NOx emission. The developed program is adopted two-zone model and Wiebe function for combustion in cylinder. The effects of premixed and diffusive combustion could be simulated by using the excess air ratio as input data. And it was confirmed that the results of simulation were agreed with the general trends of exhaust gas emission according to various combustion conditions such as lean burn, premixed and diffusive combustion.

Monitoring on Biological Distribution Around Historical Wooden Buildings Adjacent to River - With the Case Study of Silleuksa Temple, Yeoju City?- (수계에 인접한 목조건축물의 생물분포 모니터링 연구 - 여주 신륵사를 중심으로 -)

  • The Silleuksa temple in Yeoju city is adjacent to the South Han River and often has high humidity and fog days. In addition, its proximity to forests renders it prone to damage by insects and microorganisms. In order to obtain the basic data necessary for the establishment of a cultural property preservation management plan, the biological distribution of the wooden buildings and the termite distribution in the surrounding forests were monitored for three years. The wood-boring bee, an insect known to inflict damage to heritage structures, was confirmed, and the distribution of insects varied annually and seasonally, presumably due to the location characteristics of the site and the climate change during the year. In the forest behind, termite colonies were identified as a whole and their distribution pattern was different every year. As per the results of the microorganism survey, the species distribution and pollution degree were different at the entrance of the building. Therefore, it needs continuous biological distribution and conservation environment monitoring to mitigate the effects of wood-damaging organisms.were different according to the entrance of the building.

A Study of Perception on Improvement of Environmental Impact Assessment using Strategic Environmental Assessment (전략환경평가를 통한 환경영향평가제도 개선에 대한 인식도 조사 연구)

  • Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) in Korea has been used to improve environmental conservation and decision-making. Since environmental impact statement(EIS) was introduced in 1981 with the promulgation of the Environmental Preservation Act in 1977, which replaced the Pollution Control Act legislated in 1963. With a rapid growth of environmental perception as well as the diversification of development activities, however, it has recently bring about a strong demand for a new assessment process related to the strategic level of policies, plan, programs. Method of this study includes analyses of the situation of local EIA and its problematic issues through survey and analysis of information and data, analysis of the level of environmental awareness of professionals and case studies including analysis of foreign strategic environmental assessment. Accordingly, I have elicited a concept of SEA. In addition, I have studied on costs of environmental assessment, and efficiency of internalization of HIA. The survey was carried between September and November 2003, and 177 professionals were asks to complete a questionnaire. As a result of questionnaire survey of environmental pundits, it revealed that 83.8% of participants were in favor of introduction of strategic assessment. This result demonstrated more or less higher approval rate than those of awareness survey done by the Ministry of Environment, i.e. 86.0% ayes, and 14.0% nays. 22.8% of participants agreed to the opinion; "For introduction of this system, earlier is better," 50% reported having an opinion such as, "Will introduce this system in an earliest possible time after correcting problems," 26.3% reported having an opinion such as, "Let's decide the time for introduction of this system after correcting problems first,' and 0.9% reported having an opinion, "it's too early to introduce this system." Specifically, the ratio of ayes on introduction of the system marked 72.8%, and it revealed that a majority of respondents have an opinion such as, "Will introduce this system in an earliest possible time after correcting problems." As means of solutions for the problem regarding the limits of applications that existed in SEA System, factors, such as collecting a wide variety of opinions, securing experts, and faithful implementation, etc. were reported important, and in addition to these factors, respondents revealed having opinions such as, consistent research and development, reflection of public interest, establishment of professional organization, enforcement of after-management service, expanding investments in large, systemizing reference materials, and encouraging public participation, etc. To improve problems involving with present EIA system, it has been identified through this study that SEA is efficient and useful. In order to have SEA introduced successfully, it has been cleared that internalization of effectiveness of environmental cost together with HIA must be accomplished.

Seasonal Dynamis and Pollution Status of the Water Quality in the Kum River Reservoir (금강 하구호에서 수질의 계절변동과 오염도)

  • Monthly variations of physico-chemical and biological parameter were determined in near the Kum River mouth at lower discharge period from January 1998 to September 1999. The characteristics of water quality was showed hypertrophic with average values of total nitrogen (TN), total phosphorus (TP), chlorophyll-a and transparency are 3.9 mg N/l, $160\;{\mu}g/l$, $73\;{\mu}g/l$ and 0.8 m, respectively. Among a nitrogen component, inorganic and organic nitrogen comprised 34% and 66% of TN, $NH_4$ and $NO_3$ comprised 30% and 70% of inorganic nitrogen respectively. SRP concentration comprised below 9% of TP. TN/TP and DIN/SRP ratio in winter were higher than in summer. SRSi fluctuation was very wide as ranged from 0 to 3.0 mg Si/l and the highest after flood event in summer. Long-term depleted pattern of Si was observed, that is considered to be important nutrient for algal growth. Chlorophyll-a concentration was very high as $113\;{\mu}g/l$, $162\;{\mu}g/l$ in winter and summer respectively, which persisent bloomed diatom Stephanodiscus and blue-green algae Microcystis. In consequence, water quality management of these periods are considered very important.

Spatial-Temporal Pattern Analysis of Unplanned Factory Locations in the Seoul Metropolitan Area Using FEMIS Data (수도권 개별입지 공장의 시공간적 입지특성 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the spatial-temporal proliferation of individual factories in the Seoul Metropolitan Area and to provide policy implications. The location of the factory is divided into individual locations and planned locations. In the case of individual locations, it takes a long time to establish factories. Also, due to high cost and regulation, the establishment of individual factories is not easy. However, since the establishment process is simple and the price of land is low, the establishment of individual factories has led to an increase in the number of individual factories. The problem of the undeveloped factories is that the lack of infrastructure such as the road and environmental pollution treatment facilities around the factory deteriorates the pleasant environment and the cityscape and deteriorates the health of the residents in the surrounding area. In this study, we analyzed the location of individual factories established in the Seoul metropolitan area from 2001 to 2016 by using ArcGIS Pro. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, individual location factories are formed around existing industrial complexes and industrial sites. The reason for this is considered to be the external effect that can be obtained from the surrounding area. Secondly, since the Seoul city's individual location factories are established in many residential areas, it shows the conflicting result of the mixture of residence and factory. Third, the Gyeonggi province's individual location factories have a high proportion of non-urban areas. This is because the Gyeonggi province's management area occupies a larger proportion than other areas in Gyeonggi province. This study analyzed the spatial - temporal spreading process of individual factories and the unfolding of individual factories in the metropolitan area, and it can provide policy implications to control the over development of individual factories in the future.

Estimation of Water Pollution Load Based on Watershed Unit in Bocheong Seream (보청천에 대한 유역단위의 오염부하량 산정)

  • 현재 오염총량관리제를 시 군 단위의 기초자치 단체별로 시행하고 있는데 실제로 오염물질의 전달은 행정구역단위가 아닌 유역내에서 이루어지진다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 기초자치 단체별이 아닌 유역단위로 오염부하량과 삭감량을 산정함으로써 유역 단위의 오염총량관리제 계획 수립을 위한 토대를 제공하고자 한다. 본 연구에서는 보청천 유역을 대상으로 유역의 오염부하량을 산정하고자 하였다. 이를 위하여 지리정보시스템(GIS)인 WMS(Watershed Management System)와 ArcView를 이용하여 유역의 지형인자들을 추출하고, 각 소하천의 토지이용도와 생활계, 축산계, 양식계, 토지계를 바탕으로 원단위를 적용하여 발생부하량을 산정하였다. 그리고 각 소하천별 발생부하량 산정 결과를 토대로 각 수질관측점을 기준으로 하여 배출부하량을 산정하였으며, 배출부하량의 산정결과를 이용하여 유달부하량을 산정하였다. 이를 위해서 필요한 수질 데이터는 QUAL2E 모형을 이용하여 모의 하였으며, 수리 및 수질 매개변수를 추정하고 모형의 보정 및 검증을 수행하였다. 그 결과 유달부하량은 BOD는 2013.16kg/일, TN은 1091.34kg/일, TP은 235.16kg/일이 도출되었다. 따라서 장래에 수질이 악화될 경우를 고려하여 수질 항목별 오염량이 2배, 3배로 증가한다고 가정하였다. 오염량이 2배 증가하였을 경우, 오염부하량을 산정한 결과 보청천3 지점에서 BOD는 184.68kg/일이 삭감되어야 하고, 오염량이 3배 증가하였을 경우 BOD는 1775.69kg/일이 삭감되어야 한다는 결과를 도출할 수 있었다. 본 연구와 같이 유역단위로 오염부하량을 산정할 경우, 오염원을 줄이는데 효율적일 것으로 생각되며, 향후 오염총량관리제를 위해 유역단위의 오염부하량 산정을 고려하면 좋을 것으로 사료된다.는 지배적인 요인으로 남게 될 것이다. 본 연구에서는 현재 진행중인 승기천 오염하천 정화사업이 종료되는 시점을 기준으로 남동유수지에 대해 승기천과 연계한 유수지의 환경개선 방법을 제안하였다. 준설을 통해 유수지의 근본적인 오염원을 제거하고 남동유수지 유입부에 인공습지와 수처리설비를 설치하여 유수지의 수질을 개선하고 개선된 수질이 3급수로 유지하도록 하였으며, 설치된 인공습지에는 철새도래지를 조성하여 유수지 유입수인 철새가 날아드는 하천인 승기천의 테마와 연계하도록 하였다. 인공습지 주변으로 식생호안을 설치하고 유수지 주변에는 산책로를 설치하여 지역주민들의 친환경 수변공간으로 활용하도록 하였다. 1유수지와 연결된 2유수지는 BTL사업을 통해 주변공단으로부터의 오폐수를 원천적으로 차단하도록 하였으며 2유수지를 매립하여 지하는 강우시 유출수 저류가 가능한 화물차주차장으로 활용하고 지상은 녹지공간으로 조성하여 공단근로자 및 지역주민을 위한 휴식공간으로 활용될 수 있도록 제안하였다. 본 연구는 남동유수지 환경 개선 사업 실행을 위한 정책 연구로 연구결과를 인천시가 적극 수용하기로 결정함에 따라 인천시의 환경 현안 문제인 남동유수지의 수질개선을 통해 시민의 휴식 및 여가선용 공간으로 활용하기 위한 사업의 기초자료로 활용되며 이미 설계검토가 시작되었다. 본 연구결과는 유수지 및 저수지의 환경개선 사업의 선두적인 성공사례로 국내 타 지역의 유사한 사업에 있어 벤치마킹을 할 수 있는 훌륭한 사례가 될 것이다.요 생산이 증가하자 군신의 변별(辨別)과 사치를 이유로 강력하게 규제하여 백자의 확대와 발전에 걸림돌이 되었다. 둘째, 동기(銅器)의 대체품으로 자기를 만들어 충당해야할 강제성 당위성 상실로 인한 자기수요 감소를 초래하였을 것으로 사료된다. 셋째, 경기도 광주에서 백자관요가 운영되었으므로 지방인 상주

A Study on the Improvement of Dairy Rousing Systems in Kore (한국의 낙농시설 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Engineering phase of dairy housing systems has close connection with the milk produc- tivity of dairy cattle, the quality of milk, extension of dairy production systems, labor- saving in management of dairy cattle and the like. Moreover, the rate of investment of dairy housing facilities is of relatively high level, However, there has been almost no research effort for the improvement of engineering aspects of dairy housing systems in Korea. The purpose of this study is to find out general engineering problems and to recomm- end the improvement in dairy housing systems in Korea. Field survey by means of questionaire, direct measurements, taking pictures and sketching was conducted to get necessary information for the study. Kyung-ki Do region was firstly chosen for sampling area since it has included more than half of the number of dairy farms of the whole country. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. In overall dairy farm layout, the dwellings of workers were ignored in the light of sanitary environment 2. The layout of stalls in a dairy barn belongs mostly to the type of double-row face-out, which is compatible with the emphasis of manure disposal activities. 3. While the width and length of stalls were sufficiently close to the standard dimension, the width of mangers was much less than the standard dimension. 4. The width and depth of manure gutters and the width of working alleys were much. less than the standard dimension. 5. The mooring equipment was mostly in the classes of chain or rope. The watering equipment was not facilitated independantly except the one cese of using watercup. 6. The bucket milkers with one or two bucket milkers with the capacity of two cattles. each were used as milking equipment in most dairy farms. 7. There were only few milk rooms independently spaced from other space, in which the arrangement of milking equipment was much less than the standard condition. 8. The lounging ground area was averaged to be sufficient for the activity of dairy herd. 9. Silos for silage used during winter consisted of mostly bunker silos, trench silos and underground vertical silos. Ordinary vertical silos were considered for the farmers to be inconvenient for the labor saving. 10. From the view point of heat conservation and moisture removal within the dairy barns, windows were not flexible for the easy ventilation and ceiling part was not adequate for temperatur maintenance. 11. Waste treatment and disposal systems were not provided with most dairy farms, therefore the livestock waste pollution problems would be serious in the near future.

Numerical Simulations of Water Quality in ManKyong River (QUAL-II E 모델에 의(依)한 만경강(萬頃江)의 수질예측(水質豫測))

  • The QUAL-II E Model was applied to predict the water quality of the Mankyong drainage System, and lead to following conclusion. 1. The difference between computed and measured BOD at the M-3 (Bakgugeong) station was within 10%, indicating that the application of the QUAL-IIE Model for the prediction of water quality was satisfactory thus far. 2. The application of the model states that the discharge of concentrated pollutants at the M-1 station on the Jeonju stream, located 41Km upstream from the estuary, causes the worst problems. The sluice which extends residence time and enlarges watery surface improves water quality by a Self-purification process at the M-3 station, 28km upstream from the estuary. 3. The accuracy of the model diminished when this model was applied on the estuary downstream of the sluice. Hence, the application of the model on the estuary needs to be used with caution. 4. Among the conputed water quality parameters, BOD is the worst problem. At the M-3 station, BOD is computed to be 26.6 mg/1 in 1996, 30.7 mg/1 in 2,001, 33.0 mg/l in 2006, and 37.5 mg/1 in 2011. When preventive measures against water pollution are not properly exercised, severe problems in irrigation and water resources are expected. This study will be of used in the selection of irrigation water intake points, the criteria of effluent treatment, the management of water resources, and the establishment of water quality managemont policy.

Reconstructing Atmospheric CO2 Concentration Using Its Relationship with Carbon Isotope Variations in Annual Tree Ring of Red Pine

  • Carbon isotope ratio ($^{13}C/^{12}C$, expressed as ${\delta}^{13}C$) of tree ring can be proxy of atmospheric $CO_2$ concentration ([$CO_2$]) due to the inter-correlation between atmospheric [$CO_2$], ${\delta}^{13}C$ of atmospheric $CO_2$, and ${\delta}^{13}C$ of plant tissue that assimilates atmospheric $CO_2$. This study was conducted to investigate if ${\delta}^{13}C$ of tree ring of Pinus densiflora in polluted area may show a lower value than that in unpolluted area and to explore the possibility of reconstructing atmospheric [$CO_2$] using its relationship with ${\delta}^{13}C$ of tree ring. During the period between 1999 and 2005, ${\delta}^{13}C$ of tree annual ring tended to decrease over time, and the ${\delta}^{13}C$ in polluted area (-27.2‰ in 2009 to -28.3‰ in 2005) was significantly (P<0.001) lower than that (-26.0‰ in 1999 to -27.1‰ in 2005) in unpolluted area. This reflects a greater emission of $CO_2$ depleted in $^{13}C$ in the polluted area. Atmospheric [$CO_2$] was significantly (P<0.01) correlated with ${\delta}^{13}C$ of tree ring in a linear fashion. Using the linear regression equation, atmospheric [$CO_2$] in the polluted area was estimated to range from 392.3 ppm in 1999 to 410.9 ppm in 2005, and these values were consistently higher than the national atmospheric [$CO_2$] monitored at the Anmyoundo meteorological station (from 370.7 ppm in 1999 to 387.2 ppm in 2005). Our study suggested that it is possible to reconstruct atmospheric [$CO_2$] in a certain area using the relationship between tree ring ${\delta}^{13}C$ and atmospheric [$CO_2$].

Distribution of Fish Assemblage and Stable Isotope Composition of Reeds according to Geomorphic Characteristics of Lagoons along the East Sea (동해안 석호의 지형학적인 특성에 따른 어류군집분포와 갈대의 안정동위원소비)

  • Abstract The purpose of study is to identify the relationship between stable isotope composition of reed stems in coastal and understand the structure of the fish community in 10 lagoons along the East Sea. The fish species composition (particularly, anadromous fish species) and relative abundance of trophic guilds was influenced by difference of geomorphic characteristics among lagoons. Reed stems ${\delta}^{13}C$ and ${\delta}^{15}N$ values ranged from $-28.40{\pm}0.11$‰ to $-26.87{\pm}0.25$‰ and $-1.09{\pm}1.45$‰ to $12.08{\pm}0.53$‰, respectively. The differences in reed stem ${\delta}^{15}N$ values might be associated with anthropogenic landuse and the geomorphic characteristics among lagoons. These results provide useful information to improve the conservation of fish habitats (biodiversity), preserve lagoon habitats and contribute to watershed management effect against anthropogenic pollution from watershed in these lagoon ecosystems.
