This study addresses the periphytons along the Bukhan river stream and examines the biological indices that represents the river and estimate water quality assessment. Bukhan river in 4 major watershed streams (Bukchon-Hangeychon, Narinchon, Inbukchon, and Soyang river) was selected in 9 points. Land use pattern along the streams showed marked differenced in agriculture areas and forest areas. Lower Soyang streams showed blue-green algae and green algae also appeared in evenly pattern. Thus, the pollution source, biomass and distribution are somewhat correlated, and BOD, SS, biodiversity, and evenness showed a similar pattern. This situation can lead to conclusion of oligotrophic lake with good condition. Therefore, current biological index and is not so desirable for stream degree standard water quality and nutrient level.
The distributions of temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, chemical oxygen demand, dissolved inorganic nitrogen and phosphate in the Yellow Sea are described from data collected in June and July, 1994. Based on the observations of water temperature and salinity, the fresh waters originated from the Changjiang River were found to affect the waters adjacent to Cheju Island. In the light of the distributions of dissolved oxygen and chemical oxygen demand, the western part of the Yellow Sea was worse in water quality than the eastern part. Based on data of nutrients, eutrophication indices of the western part were higher than those of the eastern part in summer. It is concluded that the western part of the Yellow Sea appeared to receive high pollution loads from rivers and was evaluated to have high potentiality of red tide occurrence.
Objectives: In this study, we started to develop an indoor garden integrated IoT solution based on IAQ (indoor air quality) and interconnection with an environmental database for smart management of indoor gardens. The purpose of this study was to develop and apply an integrated solution for customized air purification from an indoor garden through big data analysis using IoT technology. Methods: An IoT-based IAQ monitoring system was established in three households within a new apartment building. Based on real-time and long-term data collected, $PM_{2.5}$, $CO_2$, temperature, and humidity changes were compared to those of indoor garden applications and the analyzed results were indexed. Results As a result of the installation, all three households had no results exceeding the standard for indoor air pollution on average $PM_{2.5}$ and $CO_2$ indices. In the case of indoor garden installation, the IAQ index increased to the "Good" section after the installation, and readings in the "Bad" section shown before the installation disappeared. The comfort index also did not dip into the "Uncomfortable" section, where it had been preinstallation, and significantly lowered the average score from "Uncomfortable for sensitive groups" to "Good". Overall, the IAQ composite index for the generation of installations decreased the "Good" interval, but "Bad" did not appear. Conclusions In this study on developing an integrated solution for IAQ based on IoT indoor gardens, big data was analyzed to determine IAQ and comfort indexes and an IAQ composite index. Through this process, it became understood that it is necessary to monitor IAQ based on IoT.
The fauna of freshwater fish and the structure of fish community were investigated from March to October in 2001 at six stations in the middle reach of the Seomjin River, Gokseong-gun. The collected fishes (1,786 individuals) were identified into 30 species of 22 genera belonging to S families. Of them, cyprinid fish occupied 26 species, only one species (Rhinogobius brunneus) was secondary freshwater fish. Dominant species was Zacco platypus (dominance index: 24.2%) and subdominant species was Pungtungia herzi (10.7%). The endemic species of Korea were 11 species including Rhodeus uyekii (36.7%) about the ichthyofauna. In estimation of water quality by diversity indices, the general conditions of water quality of all survey times and all stations were relatively fine $(\beta$-mesosaprobic, diversity index: 2.70). But four survey sites except St. 2 and St. 3 showed severe water pollution with one or move times in total survey periods.

Seasonal variability in the marine seaweed community structure was examined in the intertidal zones at nine study sites in Hallyeohaesang National Park, on the southern coast of Korea from March to October 2014. A total of 145 seaweeds were indentified, comprising 15 green, 41 brown and 89 red algae. Coarsely branched seaweeds were the dominant functional group, comprising 58.95% in species number, whereas filamentous, sheet, thick leathery, crustose and jointed calcareous forms comprised 2.63-17.72% each. The seaweed biomass averaged 358.00 g dry wt/m2 and it was maximal at Somaemuldo (847.64 g dry wt/m2) and minimal at Gamam (56.51 g dry wt/m2). Based on biomass, the dominant and subdominant seaweeds were Ulva australis at Gamam, Sargassum thunbergii at Sangju, Ulva australis and S.fulvellum at Neukdo, S.horneri at Dala-Bijindo-Somaemuldo, S. thunbergii at Dapo, and Corallina pilulifera at Songdo. Community indices were as follows: dominance index (DI), 0.43-0.71; richness index (R), 8.26-16.50; evenness index (J'), 0.36-0.54; and diversity index (H'), 1.57-2.19. In conclusion, we found that both biomass and the community structure of seaweeds in Hallyeohaesang National Park were similar to those in other studies of the Southern Sea along the Korean peninsula, and that Hallyeohaesang National Park is a relatively favorable habitat for seaweeds. Future studies should examine the changes in seaweed composition and biomass as they relate to climate change and environmental pollution.
A plane field and a sloped field located at low-land plane and alpine areas, respectively, were monitored with respect to runoff, water quality and fertilizer uses from March to December, 2008. Runoff volume and Non-Point Source (NPS) loads were estimated and analyzed with respect to fertilizer uses. Total TN and TP loads from the sloped field were higher than those from plane field because of larger chemical uses in the alpine field than in the plane field. Organic matter load from plane field was higher than that from sloped field because more organic compost was applied to plane field than to sloped field. Event Mean Concentration (EMC) of measured water quality indices were relatively higher in both fields. Organic matter load per 1 mm rainfall were higher in plane field and TN and TP loads per 1 mm rainfall were higher in sloped field than those in respective comparing field. It was concluded that the type and application method of fertilizer could play an important role in the estimation of NPS pollution loads and the development of Best Management Practices (BMPs). However, it was recommended that long-term monitoring is necessary to better describe the relationship between fertilizer uses and water quality from agricultural fields because numerous natural and management factors other than fertilizer also affect runoff quality.
The spatial distributional pattern of macrobenthic fauna was investigated to assess the summer benthic environmental conditions in Gwangyang Bay, the southern coast of Korea. The macrobenthic faunal community from 38 sites in Gwangyang Bay comprised 154 species and showed an overall mean density of 1,280 individuals $m^{-2}$. Polychaetes were the most important component of the macrofaunal community in species richness, abundance and biomass. The dominant species in abundance were polychaetes like Tharyx sp. (44.8%), Lumbrineris longifolia (14.0%), Heteromastus filiformis (3.6%), a mussel Mytilus edulis, and an amphipod crustacean Corophium sinense. The abundance and biomass in the western part of the bay were lower than those in the channel regions and mouth of the bay. The community indices showed the same trend in the spatial distribution with the abundance and species richness. All macrobenthic faunas were assigned into a specific functional group according to their ecological responses to the environmental stress. The benthic community health based on the Benthic Pollution Index (BPI) or Biotic Coefficient (BC) seemed to be in the normal to unbalanced er transitional condition, indicated by the dominance of small polychaete worms like Tharyx sp. in the mouth part of the bay.
Analysis of benthic macroinvertebrate community and biological estimation of water quality by the benthic macroinvertebrates were conducted at Olympic Park at its nearby waters in Seoul from December, 2004 to September, 2005. The benthic macrovertebrates were 49 species. Among them, 39 species of aquatic insects were included 11 species in odonata, 9 species in diptera, 7 species in hemiptera, 6 species in coleoptera, 3 species in ephemeroptera, 2 species in trichoptera and 1 species in lepipdoptera, and 10 species of non-insects were 6 species in mollusca, 2 species in hirudinea and 2 species in oligochaeta. Species number of lakes, Seongnae Stream within and outside the Olympic Park was 25 species, 35 species and 33 species, respectively. Individual number of lakes, Seongnae Stream within and outside the Olympic Park was $131\;inds/2.5m^2\;239\;inds/2.5m^2\;556\;inds/2.5m^2$, respectively. Mean dominance indices of lakes, Seongnae Stream within and outside the Olympic Park was 0.74, 0.61 and 0.72, respectively. According to the saprobic system based on the ESB index(Ecological score of benthic macroinvertebrate community), all survey sites are $\beta-mesosaprobic$ waters. To increase of abundance of benthic macroinvertebrates, regular interval monitoring has to be enforced and standard of water quality for the ecological ponds of Olympic Park has to be prepared.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality(TCEQ) WAM(Water Availability Modeling) System consists of the generalized Water Rights Analysis Package(WRAP) river/reservoir system water management simulation model, 22 sets of WRAP hydrology and water rights input files for the 23 river basins of Texas, geographic information system tools, and other supporting databases. The WRAP/WAM modeling system, as routinely applied since the late 1990s, has not included consideration of water quality. Recently developed WRAP-SALT(Water Rights Analysis Package) is designed primarily for computing concentration frequency statistics and supply reliability indices at locations of interest in a river system for alternative water development and management scenarios. Though motivated primarily by natural salt pollution, WRAP-SALT water quality modeling features are applicable to essentially any conservative water quality constituent. The Brazos River studies discussed in this paper focus on total dissolved solids, though the available observed data also includes chloride and sulfate which can be modeled as individual constituents. The WRAP-SALT salinity input file contains loads or concentrations of salinity inflows during each month of the hydrologic period-of-analysis and reservoir storage at the beginning of the simulation. The WRAP-SALT model computes salt loads and concentrations for each control point of a river/reservoir system for inflows and outflows during the month and end-of-month reservoir storage for each month of the hydrologic period-of-analysis, for given loads entering the system. River reaches connect control points. The mass balance algorithms proceed from upstream to downstream, with outflow from one river reach contributing to inflow to the next downstream reach. In a given month, for each control point in sequence, the inflow loads are first computed. Loads and concentrations of outflows and reservoir storage at the control point are then determined. Complete mixing during the month is assumed at locations without reservoir storage.
We monitored the current macrozoobenthic community structure after the Sea Prince oil spill around Keumo-do and Sori-do, Korea. Macrobenthic animals were collected seasonally around Sori-Keumo do using a van Veen grab ($0.1m^2$) from October 1999 to April 2000. In total, 196 species were identified at 46 sites around Keumho-do. The mean density was 1,460 individuals/$m^2$, and polychaetes comprised 80% of the total density of the macrozoobenthic. Dominant species were the polychaete Tharyx sp. (51%), the echinoderm Amphioplus megapomus (5%) and the polychaete Lumbrineris longifolia (3%). We identified 176 macrobenthic species at 36 sites around Sori-do. The mean density was 1,068 individuals/$m^2$, and polychaetes was the most abundant faunal group, comprising 41%, followed by mollusks (24%) and echinoderms (20%). Dominant species in Sori-do were the mollusk Potamocorbula amurensis (23%), the chinoderm Amphioplus megapomus (14%), and the polychaete Tharyx sp. (10%). The overall community structures in the study area showed few seasonal changes, although there was a gradual change in the species composition within each benthic community. Tharyx sp. was the most abundant species in the study area. Because this species has not been found in the other coastal areas except during recent investigations, it is considered to have increased during the course of community succession after the oil spill. The macrozoobenthic around Keumo-do showed little change in species richness, whereas around Sori-do, it showed a few increases in species richness after the summer of 1998. The overall density showed the same trend as species richness. Based on improved community indices, we suggest that the macrozoobenthic communities around Sori-Keumo Islands are gradually recovering from the oil-spill damagecaused by the oil spill.
