  • This study was performed to examine factors affecting the decompostion of nondegradable polluants(trichloroethylene(TCE), phenol) using ultrasonic irradiation. The TCE and phenol, which are major hazard compounds causing environmental pollution, were not decomposable pollutants by conventional treatment. The results show that the oxidation and reduction reaction of ultrasound produced $H_2O_2$, $H^+$ and $OH^-$ radical, which decomposed pollutants of TCE and phenol in water. It was confirmed that the ultrasonic irradiation showed an excellent removal efficiency for the nondegradable pollutants than any other processes, utilized in the treatment of organic compounds in the industrial wastewater. Conclusively, these results suggest that ultrasonic irradiation may be highly useful for the treatment of wastewaters contaminated organic pollutants, which is difficult to treat economically by conventional process.

  • This study was performed to examine the factors influencing on the degradation of TCE, Benzene and 2,4 DCP in aqueous solution using ultrasonic irradiation. The TCE,Benzene and 2,4 DCP, which are hazard compounds causing environmental pollution, were not decomposable pollutants by convientional treatment. The results shows that the generation of H$_{2}$O$_{2}$, H$^{+}$ and OH$^{-}$ radical was formed by the oxidation and reduction reaction of ultrasound, and then theses decomposed the refractory pollutants of TCE, Benzene & 2,4 DCP in aqueous solution. we conformed that the ultrasonic irradiation was excellent in removal efficiency of the refractory pollutants any other than Advanced Oxidation Processes(AOP), utilized the treatment of organic compounds in the industrial wastewater. Consequently, these results suggest that ultrasonic irradiation may be extremely useful for the treatment of wastewaters contaminated organic pollutants, which is difficult to treat economically by conventional process.

  • The hardening system of polyurethanes has usually caused by air pollution. bad working condition and fire hazard according to using orgarnic solvents. Therefore there have been researched on emulsion, water soluble and colloid-dispersion based water soluble instead of using organic solvents recently. This study synthesized polyurethane dispersing particle by means of mixing precursor and neutralized emulsion method. In the first step, polyurethane was preparated from isophorone diisocyanate and poly (ethylene-adipate) glycol, and got precursor by introducing dimethyl propionic acid as a hydrophilic group. Synthesized polyurethane was bonded to the surface of fiber and crosslinked as a anti-static agent, and then looked for the change of color and softening property.

  • Higher plants provide valuable genetic assay systems for screening and monitoring environmental pollutants. They are now recognized as excellent indicators of mutagenic effects of environmental chemicals and are applicable for the detection of environmental mutagens both indoor and outdoor. 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) is a herbicide commonly used in agriculture. The residues of 2,4-D are present in air, water, soil and edible plants. It constitutes a real hazard to the public health because it's wide spread use in agriculture. Genotoxic effects of 2,4-D on plant cells and potential of higher plants as a biomonitoring system for detecting chemical mutagens are evaluated. It is recommended that higher plant systems have been accepted by regulatory authorities as an alternative biomonitoring system for the detection of possible genetic damage resulting from pollution and the use of environmental chemicals.

  • Water conveyance from waste water treatment plant can play a role in securing river water quantitatively in urban watershed, but it can also cause more severe contamination of river water due to lack of water quality management. Soil aquifer treatment(SAT) has been introduced to overcome the worsening water quality in the water conveyance system considering the characteristics of Korean urban watershed. The application of SAT to the water conveyance system not only improve water quality of ordinarily discharged water but also prevent accidential water pollution to the urban watershed. Since most domestic urban watersheds are consist of narrow terrace lands and surrounded by roads, SAT is estimated not to be appropriate to the urban watershed with respect to the quantitative efficiency. However, since the upstream of urban watershed in which discharge ports are located usually consists of agricultural lands, SAT can be applied near discharge ports. Therefore, combination of water conveyance and SAT is expected to supply clean and safe river water in urban watershed.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the operating characteristics of a ventilating fan due to overload and overheating. The experiment assumed the forcible restraint of the blade due to external objects and the aging process. We analyzed the experimental temperature and operating characteristics of the three places in the interior of the ventilating fan. As a result of the analysis, the temperature distribution was highest to lowest in the following order: the thermal fuse, the motor inside, and the above winding. There was smell of burning enamel in the restraint experiment. Following the thermal fuse operation, the insulation of motor winding was good. In the case of rated voltage and new ventilating fan restrained for about 4hours, and the results of restraint experiments in the presence or absence of the thermal fuse, no risk of deformation or fire due to overheating was identified. Henceforward, ignition hazard experiments will be required for additional factors of aging, pollution, and defective insulation.

  • Background: When particles are absorbed into the human body, they penetrate deep into the lungs and interact with the tissues of the body. Heavy metals in PM2.5 can cause various diseases. The main source of PM2.5 emissions in South Korea's atmosphere has been surveyed to be places of business. Objectives: The concentration of heavy metals in PM2.5 near the Ulsan Industrial Complex was measured and a health risk assessment was performed for residents near the industrial complex for exposure to heavy metals in PM2.5. Methods: Concentrations of heavy metals in PM2.5 were measured at four measurement sites (Ulsan, Mipo, Onsan, Maegok) near the industrial complexes. Heavy metals were analyzed according to the Air Pollution Monitoring Network Installation and Operation Guidelines presented by the National Institute of Environmental Research. Among them, only five substances (Mn, Ni, As, Cd, Cr6+) were targeted. The risk assessment was conducted on inhalation exposure for five age groups, and the excess cancer risk and hazard quotient were calculated. Results: In the risk assessment of exposure to heavy metals in PM2.5, As, Cd, and Cr6+ exceeded the risk tolerance standard of 10-6 for carcinogenic hazards. The highest hazard levels were observed in Onsan and Mipo industrial complexes. In the case of non-carcinogenic hazards, Mn was identified as exceeding the hazard tolerance of 1, and it showed the highest hazard in the Ulsan Industrial Complex. Conclusions: This study presented a detailed health risk from exposure to heavy metals in PM2.5 by industrial complexes located in Ulsan among five age groups. It is expected to be utilized as the basis for preparing damage control and industrial emission reduction measures against PM2.5 exposure at the Ulsan Industrial Complex.

  • Mining is important as a national key industry that supplies energy and raw materials that are the basis for industrial development. On the other hand, mine development is necessarily accompanied by mineralization, for example, ground subsidence, heavy metal pollution, and water pollution. The mine hazard has a large range of damage, and it takes much time and cost to recover. In addition, there is a need for systematic mining management in order to prevent damages from occurring continuously. In this study, the present status of domestic mining industry and geospatial information construction technology for mining management were investigated. 95% of the mines surveyed were nonmetallic, and limestone mines accounted for 67%, and the constructed mine spatial information is not constructed with 3D geospatial information due to 2D current status, section, and geological map. Considering the results of the survey and analysis of 3D laser scanner and characteristics of Korean mine, handheld scanner is considered to be the most suitable method for constructing mine geospatial information. In addition, the data acquired through the 3D laser scanner can effectively visualize the object, and it can contribute to the systematic management of mining because it can be used for various purposes such as generation of drawings and calculation of volume.
