Purpose - Drawing on relational institutional theory, we explored how demographic similarity between board members of a firm and newly emerged political elites led to firms' increased financial resource acquisition such as leverage ratio and decreased export intensity amidst the Asian financial crisis. We also studied how a firm's leverage ratio and export intensity can further affect firm profitability and financial credit rating. Design/methodology - We revisited and explored a unique, unprecedented crisis that affected most Korean firms: the Asian financial crisis that coincided with a governmental shift from a conservative to a liberal party. We collected demographic information from 432 listed Korean firms' board members and 43 political elites of the Blue House from 1998-2000 to create a demographic similarity measurement. We collected firms' financial information, built panel data, and used ordinary least squares regression to test our theory. Findings - Our results showed that demographic similarity between a firm's directors and newly emerged politicians had a positive association with a firm's leverage ratio but a negative association with a firm's export intensity. A firm's leverage ratio had a negative relationship with firm performance measured by firm profitability and financial credit rating. A firm's export intensity showed a positive effect on firm performance. Originality/value - We highlighted that during an economic crisis that coincided with a governmental shift and change of leading political actors, firms exerted efforts to survey the environment and build new external stakeholder relationships to cope with the changing landscape. We proposed that in an emerging market like Korea where low levels of trust and favoritism are prevalent across society, one of the relational institutional strategies that firms can employ is the selection of directors with similar demographic characteristics to political elites based on factors including birthplace and school affiliations. We examined the efforts of firms to build political networks with newly empowered political elites during a financial crisis, and the consequences of establishing such networks. We highlighted that during a financial crisis, the demographic similarity between a firm's board members and newly emerged politicians can provide firms with access to financial resources but can also result in poor management and reduced effort to enhance its international competitiveness.

The origin and developing process of Highland Dress as a Scottish national dress has been discussed in this study. Parameters affecting transformation process of Highland Dress from regional to national dress over the modernization period during 19 C was analyzed and compared by sociological aspect. Anthony Giddenss social change was applied and divided into three main factors such as political , economic and cultural analysis. The basic requirement of the theory of social change is visual recognization of any cultural changes. Highland Dress as a Scottish national dress has established during modernization in Europe within short period(18C -early 20C) and the Highland tartan as a military dress was transformed to be a civilian dress during 19-20 C. It shows social changes affecting on costume pattern and eventually costume in particular time could be an indicator of social changed. Throughout the study of the functional role of costume in Scotland is able to clarify the understanding of acculturation phenomenon through cultural, political and economic changes.

This study analyzes how inoculation affects the spiral of silence. Inoculation could be a beneficial tool in a democracy as it elevates citizens' resistance to attitude change "forced" by "the winning opinion" in the spiral of silence on a certain controversial issue. The study examines essential variables combined with the theories of inoculation and spiral of silence, such as resistance to counter-attitudinal attack, fear of isolation, and issue-involvement. A two-wave field experiment was employed to assess the formation of public opinion on Taiwan's political future with the People's Republic of China. Results support that inoculation enhanced people's resistance to attitude change and decreased their fear of isolation. Individuals who are more issue-involved were also shown to be more affected by inoculation, which allowed them to resist attitude change. The decreased fear of isolation, coupled with more issue involvement, might elevate people's willingness to speak out in public. More political discussions regarding an important public issue might be expected in a democracy.

체제의 전환은 정책의 변화나 정부의 교체보다는 덜 자주 발생한다. 사회경제 연합, 정치경제 제도, 공공정책의 양상이라는 체제를 구성하는 세 가지 요소 모두의 변화가 이루어질 때 체제의 전환은 가능하다. 이 연구는 한국 생활보장체제의 전환 가능성이 상당히 높은 지금의 시점에서 필요한 과제를 모색하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 2절에서는 한국 생활보장체제의 전개과정과 특성을 필자의 선행연구들에서 주장한 '개발국가형 생활보장체제'의 관점에서 살펴보았다. 3절에서는 한국 생활보장체제의 전환을 위해 필요하다고 생각하는 3가지의 과제를 제시하였는데, 그것은 정치제도의 개혁, 재정지출 구조의 개혁, 그리고 비공식 취업의 축소 등이다. 이러한 과제들은 사회경제 연합의 변화와 새로운 정치경제 제도의 등장을 요구한다는 점에서 체제전환과 관련한 정책적 과제이다. 한편, 4절에서는 한국 사회복지의 새판 짜기와 관련하여 우리 학문 공동체에 붙여보고 싶은 두 가지의 토론거리를 결론을 대신하여 제기하였다.

본 연구의 목표는, 여성 정치사상가 한나 아렌트(Hannah Arendt)가 『책임과 판단』에서 소개한 개념 '집합적 책임'을 들여와 기후변화를 주제로 하는 기독교교육 분야에 응용하는 것이다. 먼저 본 연구는 '집합적 책임' 개념을 집합적 유죄 개념에 대비하면서 작금의 기후변화 문제가 개인윤리의 과제라기보다는 정치적 과제로 인식되어야 한다는 사실을 강조한다. 그리고 기후변화에 대한 '집합적 책임'의 교육활동이 그 자체로 교육자와 학습자가 공히 참여하는 공공의 정치행위로 전개되어야 마땅하다고 주장한다. 본 연구는 정치행위로서 기독교교육 활동의 전개방안에 관하여 다음의 네 가지를 제안한다. 첫째, 기후변화로 인한 인류존망 위기에 대한 불안 및 분노의 감정을 공적 수준에서 발표하며 공유하기. 둘째, 칸트가 말한 "확장된 심성(공통감각)"을 통하여 이기주의(이권 편향)를 초월하기. 셋째는 "시민참여로서 아렌트적 토론학습"으로 호명되는 대화와 토론의 학습공동체를 결성하는 일이다. 마지막으로 넷째는, 그 같은 학습공동체 안에서 "사랑으로 행동하는 믿음"을 이웃사랑의 지평에서 실천할 수 있도록 격려하는 기독교교육이 일어나야 한다는 점이다. 본 연구의 학술적 의의는 아렌트의 정치이론을 기후변화 및 기후활동, 그리고 기독교교육에 관계지어 구체적으로 다룬 국내 최초의 학제간 연구논문이라는 사실이다. 비록 정치이론을 기독교교육에 응용하는 이론적 조직신학적 연구를 표방하나, 실제 교육장면에서 활용가능한 실천적 제안을 동반하고 있음을 자부한다.

This study provides comparative analysis on the parodying of the body and political powers in the traditional animation and Shrek Series based on the discourse of Foucault. For the research, parody theories and Foucault's discourse were reviewed through the literature study, and Shrek Series was analyzed through positive study. The Shrek Series overturned stereotypes of the traditional animation by means of parody, especially showing a true body and a political power in the post-modern society. Foucault focused on the body and newly changed political power in the post-modern society. A body was changed into resistant and combative forms rather than obedient and submissive under control of the community power. In addition, political power was changed into relationship-oriented, decentralized and creative power rather than the centralized and class-based. In the traditional fairy tales, heroes and heroines are beautiful and perfect characters who obtain wealth and honor and live a happy life forever. However, heros and heroines in the Shrek Series are not attractive and do not have the ideal body shape, but rather have creative and active personalities and show indifference towards wealth and honor. Furthermore, their dress colors show the change into lower value and higher chroma. The Shrek Series is a future-oriented animation which created a fluid body and a creative political power in the post-modern society.

The political reformation in Indonesia is a determinant factor of the change in political communications and the roles of media. Currently, the political elites need media support, since it contextually has a significant role. Whoever has a good relationship with the media, will be loved by the public. On the other hand, the media also have a vested interest in the elite in running businesses and building the power of industry. Policies and capital pose a challenge to maintaining the continuity of the media. Independence and control of media are at stake, when the interests of the media and the elite collaborate with each other and then build a benefit on both sides. Meanwhile, the role of social media also cannot be neglected. The Indonesian political communication system is characterized by the presence of social media in a pseudo-relationship between the elite and the public. This paper tries to explain the growing trends of research in the academic environment and the research trends in political practice in Indonesia after the occurrence of post-reformation era in legislative and executive elections. The method used is the meta-analysis of research outcomes of university (dissertations) and secondary data sources. Data processing is done by meta-analysis of secondary data. The results of meta-analysis research indicate that, the objective conditions, in Indonesia, especially the political conditions, stimulate new spaces in communication research. The study of political communication becomes dominant in the academic environment. In addition, communication research is also characterized by a shift from the linear perspective (positivistic paradigm) to the interactive perspective (naturalistic paradigm). On the other hand, the development of politic and governance situations in Indonesia has prompted the establishment of polling agencies that help citizens understand the maps of political power and candidates in general elections and regional head elections.

Revolution of Shale gas literally brings about great changes in many spheres. In the past most academic research had been focused on the influence and innovative change in term of economic perspective. But nowadays we should more concern about the security approach and perspective as its status of the future's core energy resources. Revolution of Shale gas has an great influence on the reshaping of global and regional alliance order. There are many international political implications as follows. Contribution of energy hegemony with leading U.S.; Acting as strategic leverage on the reshaping international order; Deepening competition among major states on the construction of energy security and so on. We'd better make a good solution and systematic policies which are preparing for the Shale gas's revolution period including on the understanding about the change on the global energy structure and making a national policy agenda of energy security issues and so on. The thesis like 'to get the energy resources is to get the hegemonic power in the world' will persist. The same holds good of Shale gas case. To meet the revolution of shale gas era, we have important tasks as like making an opportunity to develope not only regional but also international prosperity.

이 글은 민주노조운동의 성장과 쇠퇴의 동학을 운동의 '제도적 통합'을 둘러싼 투쟁과 갈등, 이후 정치적 기회의 변화 속에서 노사관계 '제도의 변형'과 유연안정성의 범위를 둘러싼 행위자들의 복잡한 상호작용이라는 시각에서 검토한다. 민주노조운동의 '제도적 통합'을 위한 협상은 불확실하고 유동적인 상황에서 1997-98년 노동법으로 마무리되었다. 이후 1997년 노동법 제도의 변형을 위한 투쟁과 갈등이 지속적으로 전개되었고, 이는 노사관계 제도화게임과 유연안정성 게임의 형태를 띠었다. 그러나 이미 형성된 노동법체계는 제도의 지속적 영향과 경로의존성을 보여주었다. 2008년 이후 운동의 사이클은 쇠퇴국면에 접어들었다. 운동의 쇠퇴는 운동 제도화 및 정치적 기회의 변화와 관련이 있고, 장기적으로 운동주체의 세대 변화와 맞물려 있다. 이제 민주노조운동의 과제는 민주노조운동이 새로운 집합적 정체성의 성장에 어떤 역할을 할 수 있을 것인가에 모아지고 있다.

The national language in the divided Germany has undergone changes that are not simply 'linguistic' in nature but reflect on the diverse social activities that have contributed to the development of the country's political and economic systems. Accordingly, a study of the German language in the process of the division would necessarily involve looking into the socio-political dynamics of the period, in tandem with the study of the linguistic structure per se. This paper deals with the political situation of Germany during the period of 1945 through 1990 and the issues of territorial devision during that period with the view to clarifying the extra-linguistic factors behind the changes of the country's national language. This mode of explaining the heterogeneous linguistic changes that characterize post-war Germany will provide an opportunity to consider the classical issues of the relationship between linguistic changes and social ones in a new light.
