Correlation Between Functional Movement Screen Scores, Lower Limb Strength, Y-Balance Test, Grip Strength, and Vertical Jump and Incidence of Injury Due to Musculoskeletal Injury Among Abu Dhabi Police Recruits

  • Objective: Training-related injuries and attrition put an additional burden on police and military institutions. Preventing and minimizing musculoskeletal injuries is the primary concern of the Abu Dhabi Police. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the correlation between functional movement screen, lower-limb strength, Y-balance test, grip strength and vertical jump and the incidence of musculoskeletal injuries among Abu Dhabi police recruits. Design: Observational analytical study. Methods: An observational study was conducted on 400 male police recruits of Abu Dhabi Police Academy. Physical performance was assessed before the 16-weeks basic police training. Spearman's correlation evaluated the correlation between the performance parameters and the outcome measures and logistic regression predicted the risk factors associated with musculoskeletal injuries. Results: 149 (34.4%) participants reported at least one injury during the basic police training. Comparison between injured and non-injured participants showed significant difference in mean right Y-balance, back-leg-chest dynamometer, and vertical jump (p=0.02, p=0.02, and p=0.04, respectively). Spearman's correlation showed a significant negative correlation between risk of injury and back-leg-chest dynamometer and right Y balance (ρ= -0.11, p=0.03). Logistic regression showed that back-leg-chest dynamometer and right Y balance were significant predictors of injury (p =.036 and p=0.037; Odds ratio=0.96; 95% CI (0.92, 0.99) and Odds ratio=0.99; 95% CI (0.98,0.99). Conclusions: Our findings suggest functional movement screen and grip strength may not independently predict injury rates, balance and lower-limb strength needs to be considered in injury prevention strategies to reduce musculoskeletal injuries.

  • The police do their best effort to make all security standards of competence and law enforcement suit the public's expectation, take precedence over the direction of the security policy to what the people want, and realize the Republic of Korea in which the people are happy with a strong police security. On the other hand. The people demand the fairly high level of moral integrity to the police who are in charge of law enforcement at the forefront than any other organization. Suggesting various measures for enhancing the organizational level of police ethics in police ethics awareness of police offices have been working on, yet the prevailing view that still insufficient. In this study, after analyzing the current moral status of the police, I suggest ways to improve as follows: First, strengthening the training and improving the program of police ethics. For this, securing professional teacher and implementation of customized ethics training are necessary. Second, the subject of human nature test should be expanded. The targets are limited to less than a supervisor. It should be expanded to all police officers. Third, the improvement of the organizational culture. For this, introduction of mentoring system and enlightening-oriented inspection is needed. Fourth, reducing the burden of manpower by reinforcing personnel. By defusing lack of police personnel, the police will be able to conduct intensive and effective ethics education. Finally, the provision of the stress relief measures for the police. To this end, the police requires constant efforts of the organization itself.

The relationship between the level of job stress and health promotion behavior with police officier (경찰공무원의 직무스트레스 정도와 건강증진 행위와의 관련성)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate health behavior, job stress of police officer in Korea. Methods: It was a descriptive study, and subjects were comprised 135 police officer by reported questionnaires. The data were analyzed by t-test, ANOVA(Sheffe's test), and Pearson's correlation using SPSS/WIN 22.0. Results: The job stress level of the subjects was 41.30 and Dietary practice guideline score was 4.52, moderate activity practice day was 2.48, waling practice day was 3.87. There was a significant difference in the job stress among the characteristics of the subjects according to their work experience and position. Health promoting behaviors and job stress were negatively correlated with dietary practice guideline score and moderate exercise practice days, and positive correlation between smoking and drinking. Conclusion: Based on this study, it is necessary to develop a health program that can reduce the job stress of the subject and solve the job stress healthily.

A Study on effect of educational satisfaction on the job satisfaction and organizational commitment among new Police officers (신임경찰 교육만족도가 직무만족과 조직몰입에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze how the new police education will affect job satisfaction and organizational commitment. Based on the Central Police Academy, the new policemen(288th newly appointed officers) were surveyed as a survey of educational satisfaction(education, curriculum, teaching facilities, teaching facilities), and awareness of job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The results are summarized as follows. First, Educational satisfaction has shown that there is a static correlation between job satisfaction and organizational involvement. Second, the teaching ability has a significant effect on all the factors contributing to job satisfaction, in relation to the effect of the educational satisfaction on job satisfaction. Third, in relation to the effect of the educational satisfaction on organizational commitment, the teaching ability has had a significant effect on all the factors involved in organizational involvement, and education courses and educational facilities have shown significant effects on continuance commitment among organizational commitment. These results suggest that education for working subjects should be conducted in a more case-oriented instruction, and the practice of on-the-job training is required to ensure practical hands-on learning.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyse the job-satisfaction of police officer. The subjects of this study are selected by convenience sampling of random sampling method. The population is male and female incumbent police officers in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The 347 cases are used to analyse the job-satisfaction among 400 police officers who answer the question. The Jod-Satisfaction Survey(Choi, 2001) are used for collecting data. In consequence of and 4 sub-factors(job-satisfaction) are found. Cronbach's alpha coefficient revealed $.058{\sim}.804,\;.846{\sim}.871$, respectively. For the statistical analysis, SPSS version 12.0 are utilized. The verification of research hypothesis are conducted by T-test, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple-regression. The significance level of all tests are set at .05. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows: Based on the demographic factors, the differences in life-style among police officers are identified. There is significant differences in gender and ages on individualism and accomplishment, in marital status on individualism and fashion-pursuing, and in income level on fashion-pursuing and accomplishment. There is also significant differences in education, religion, position and service period on accomplishment, individualism and fashion-pursuing.

Effective education for the prevention of violence in the emergency room (응급실 폭력예방에 대한 효율적인 교육방안)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the educational satisfaction of trainees in implementing violence prevention education by workers in the emergency room and insufficient education. Methods: The participants of the study were 65 emergency room employees in S area. Results: First, education was helpful if you actively participated in education, and if you did not actively participate in education, education was shown to be of little or no help (χ2(p)= .000 p-value<.05). Second, formal education (53.3%) was identified as the problem of preventive education currently in place of education, and statistics show that the biggest problem with applying emergency room violence prevention education at worksites is a lack of active support (41.7%) from the police and hospitals. Third, 48.3 percent of the respondents thought that the education methods invited experts were appropriate for emergency room violence prevention education. Conclusion: The problem with the current emergency room violence prevention education is that it is necessary to establish a connection program between hospitals and police stations and give lectures by experts in violence prevention education to apply the contents of the educational curriculum in the workplace with one time and formal education.

  • As the terrorist act inflicted on the American Ambassador to Korea, Mark Lippert on March 5, 2015, the hunting rifle case in Sejong-si in which 3 persons were killed on February 25, and the hunting rifle murder case in Hwaseong-si Namyang-dong on February 27 occurred in succession, there is growing concern that our country is no long safe from firearm violence. Internationally, there is growing concern that our country is no longer safe from international terrorist organizations such as Islamic State (IS), the Sunni Muslims fundamentalists' Islamic militia group, which an 18-year old Korean boy Kim voluntarily joined in January 2015. The police crisis negotiation of our country was established and operated to prepare for the 1988 Olympic Games mainly for counter-terrorism purposes, and due to the characteristics of the prohibition of the use of guns, not a counter-terrorism incident has occurred, so the skepticism about its existence and the development directions are actively being discussed. Our country still prefers the traditional use of force such as SWAT team to resolve crisis case, such as such as murder, terrorism, robbery, and is reinforcing tactical capabilities. However, to perform the primary mission of the police to protect the people's lives and properties, it is necessary to establish the system in which crisis negotiations are possible in the initial stages no matter what incidents may occur by expanding the education for crisis negotiations techniques which are emphasized in the advanced countries such as the United States. In this research, the police department's internal education materials and media are analyzed so that the new police officers who work hardest on the forefront can carry out the roles as basic negotiators of crisis negotiations, and the measures for the development directions of the police crisis negotiations are presented.

Wife Abuse and Opinions of Police, lawyers, and Doctors : Some Realities about the Myths (아내학대 관련기관 종사자들의 아내학대에 대한 잘못된 믿음(Myth)에 관한 연구 - 경찰, 법조인, 의료인을 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the myth(erroneous beliefs) of police, lawyers, and doctors about wife abuse. Subjects included 194 police, 81 lawyers, 164 doctors, and 222 public who lived in Taegu and kyngbuk. The major findings of the study are follows; first, subject-groups commonly have the myth about wife abuse. Second, there are no differences by sex, formal education, and marital status. Additionally significant age differences are found in police and lawyers. Third, especially they have the myth about wife abuse-e.g. battered women could avoid being battered by simply leaving their batters, their husbands can stop the abuse by attending a counseling or therapy session and by deceasing the job-stress, and they must not to divorce for their children.

  • With the realization that the police's personal information gathering activities can violate the authority to decide one's information guaranteed by the Constitution, many people are interested in the legal terms of the police's information gathering and handling. The police's personal information gathering activities imply both the purpose of public welfare and order and the risk of violation of basic rights of citizens, their effective balance is critical. In this respect, this study reviews the principle of proportion as a principle of control of personal information gathering and handling (police intelligence activities) by state to discuss its implications on legislation.

The Plan of Social Security network for Prevention of School Violence (학교폭력 예방을 위한 사회안전망의 구상)

  • School Violence is one of the most serious problems faced by Korean. As this serious problem becomes social issue in nation, many researchers have tried to find out the most effective solution of that problem and the reasons for why prevention of school violence are failed in such mind-hurting activities. The government and NGO proposed many the alternative to prevent the school violence. But the effectiveness of the alternatives art questionable. Last year Busan Metropolitan Police Agency and Busan Education Administration proposed new alternative in united cooperation which is namely Administration proposed new alternative in united cooperation which is namely 'school police' for school violence. School Police is composed of the retired teachers and ex-police officer, to do a prevention activity of school violence, which is expected to effectively curtail school violence in the assigned school. It is first networking try to prevent of school violence as a team of police and teachers in Korea. But the type of Korean school police system is different from American's school police, like as LASPD which is of sworn police officers. Korean school police is to employ a kind of school liaison officers. Though 'School Police System' got good reaction from students and citizen in Busan, It has some defects to be solved in future. So it hard to note that their efforts have been successful in curtailing the prevalence of school violence. In this paper, I present the new type of new 'Social Security Network Model' for school violence by repairing of 'korean school police system'. The problem of the school violence is not the problem of the school but the problem of society. In such viewpoints, It is important to plan a security network model which is participate in police officers, teachers, community and government. To prevent school violence effectively, I propose this new social security network model which based on theory of Community Oriented Policing, aggressive policing and CPTED technique.
