  • Geo-pointing is a function that maintains LOS(Line of Sight) to a stationary ground target by controlling azimuth and elevation angles of a EOS(Electro-Optical System) which are calculated from aircraft navigation data and target coordinates. In design and implementation of the geo-pointing, a transmission time delay between GPS/INS and EOS is a major degradation factor of the geo-pointing performance when the aircraft is rapidly maneuvered especially. In this paper, a kalman filter is designed to compensate the transmission time delay of aircraft navigation data. Simulation and test results show that the geo-pointing performance is enhanced by the proposed compensation technique.

  • A flexible pointing system mounted on top of a vehicle suffers from performance degradation due to bending vibrations as the vehicle runs on a bump course. In order to improve the pointing performance, the pointing structure's vibrations should be suppressed. In this paper, a nonlinear controller is designed to control the tip position of the pointing system while actively suppressing the vibrations. To cope with high order dynamics and nonlinearities of the plant and hydraulic actuating system, a two-stage sliding mode controller is devised. The desired actuating pressure is obtained in the first stage and then the in put current In the hydraulic servo system is computed to generate the pressure. The simulation results show the effectiveness of this scheme and improvements in pointing accuracy.

  • Input devices of wearable computer are difficult to use, so a lot of alternative pointing devices have been considered in recent years. In order to resolve this problem, this paper proposed a dynamic gain control method which is able to improve the performance of wearable pointing device and showed an experimental result comparing this method with conventional method. Also the effects of methods were compared in terms of device (wearable and desktop). The result of calculating throughputs(index of performance) by Fitts' law showed that the pointing performance in dynamic gain condition was improved 1.4 times more than normal gain.

  • FLIR(Forward Looking Infrared) geo-pointing is a function that helps pilots to see a target within the field of view under all coordinates and attitudes of helicopter. Geo-pointing controls FLIR LOS(line of sight) toward known target coordinates by using azimuth and elevation angles calculated from several information such as helicopter coordinates and attitudes, a FLIR position from a GPS antenna, and target coordinates. Geo-pointing performance has been tested and evaluated on the ground to save flight test costs and ensure flight safety. In this paper, design and implementation of a geo-pointing system is described with the results of performance test conducted on the ground test system.

  • Herein, we propose a novel method to create multidirectional and multilevel pointing input using only a hardware keyboard. The relative position vectors among pressed keys are calculated into an input vector. The pointing performance of this method is evaluated based on the ISO 9241-9 recommendations. We find that the performance of the method is sufficient to create moderate pointing input, as the measurement of the throughput is close to that of a touchpad, as measured in past studies also using the ISO 9241-9 recommendations.

  • In this study, the performance of a heavy load pointing system has been investigated. The PI controller are being widely used in industrial application because of simple, cheap, and excellent performance. However, the requirement for control precision becomes higher and higher, as well as the plants becomes more and more complex. In order to achieve the satisfied control performance, we have to consider the affection of nonlinear factor contained in plant. In this paper, the neural-PI control law have been evaluated. The proposed controller is compared with the existing controllers through simulations, and the results show that the pointing accuracy of the proposed control system is improved against the disturbance induced by vehicle running on the bump course.

  • A bistatic radar using the pulse chasing can detect a target to track successive transmitted pulses using a receive beam for effectively scanning the cosite search area. When tracking a transmitted pulse with the receive beam, some beam pointing errors within pulse-to-pulse can cause the timing error in received pulse and the variation of the signal strength. In this paper, we have proposed that some errors due to the receive beam pointing error could limit the MTI filter's performance and derived that the relationship between the MTI performance and the geometric factors which are the inherent properties in bistatic configuration. Through the simulation, we have considered the limitations of the improvement performance restricted by the receiving beam pointing error and confirmed the contribution to the performance improvement in maintaining the receiving beam pointing error of under 0.5 degrees.

  • A semi-passive vibration isolation control method for enhancing pointing performance of on-board payload has been derived, and its effectiveness has been evaluated through numerical simulation. The semi-passive control law proposed in this study was derived so as to obtain the same performance as a high passive damping at low frequencies and obtain the same performance as a passive low damping at high frequencies. In the numerical simulation, the intended vibration isolation performance of the semi-passive control law has been obtained.

  • During human-computer interaction(HCI), people typically send inputs to computers through electromechanical pointing devices. Many applied studies have therefore evaluated cursor-positioning movements made with various pointing devices. Though there were so many studies about performance of various pointing devices, it was nearly impossible to compare device performance each other until the Fitts' law was applied. It does appear that Fitts' law may predict performance reasonably well for the one C-D gain level. But in varying C-D gain levels, Fitts' law could not predict movement time. This study investigated the effects of C-D gain in mouse movement time and suggested a revised Fitts' model including C-D gain as an independent variable. The revised Fitts' model may use to measure the performance of various devices in varying C-D gain levels.

  • In this study, we assessed the performance of the test remote pointing device that is applicable to interactive TV (iTV). An empirical test was carried out with the pointing devices in three different interface methods that are recently tried in the industry. For the measurement, a directional task was performed on the linear track described in the conventional ISO 9241-Part 9. The measured variables included the movement time, accuracy, throughput and the subjective satisfaction. The result showed that the motion time was better in the device in the GyroPoint method than the other devices, but the accuracy of the GyroPoint device was lower than that of the devices in the Hall Mouse and OFN methods. It was found that the throughput and the subjective satisfaction were dependent upon the individual input devices. Since this study was conducted on the major point devices that are currently tried and analyzed the problems and characteristics, it is assumed that this study will provide useful data for the design of the remote pointing device that is more suitable to the iTV environment.
