  • In this paper, the performance of an energy conversion system is analyzed using two efficiency concepts, one of conventional and the other of energetic efficiently. The objective of this analysis was to improve and optimize the energy conversion system in point, namely, and LNG-fired Combined Heat and Power Plant (CHP). To this end, energies which represent the true efficiency figures were evaluated for various flows of the system with a set of system configurations given. Then the economic values of the energies were assigned to respective flows and subsystems. With these economic data locations of inefficiencies and opportunities for improvement are identified.

  • With the increasing of the penetration rate of large-scale wind farms, a reliable, highly available and cost-effective communication network is needed. As the failure of a WF communication network will significantly impact the control and real-time monitoring of wind turbines, network reliability should be considered into the WF design process. This paper analyzes the network reliability of different WF configurations for the Southwest Offshore project that is located in Korea. The WF consists of 20 WTs with a total capacity of 60 MW. In this paper, the performance is compared according to a variety of indices such as network unavailability, mean downtime and network cost. To increase the network reliability, partial protection and full protection were investigated as strategies that can overcome the impact of a single point of failure. Furthermore, the reliability performances of different network architectures are analyzed, evaluated and compared.

  • Experimental investigations were carried out on an Axi-symmetric Body Model fitted with Pump-jet Propulsor (PJP) in the Cavitation Tunnel at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL). The tests were intended for evaluating the propulsion characteristics of the body and propulsor. The self propulsion point of the model for two configurations was determined after finding the corrections for tunnel blockage effects and differences in model length at zero trim. The results were found to match closely with the towing tank results. The rotor and stator torques also matched closely over full range of experiment. Further experiments were carried out on the body at $4.5^{\circ}$ angle of trim to investigate the propulsive performance and assess the operational difficulties in the sea. The results indicated an increase in resistance and decrease in rotor thrust; but the balance of torques between the rotor and stator was undisturbed, causing no concern to vehicle roll.

  • This paper investigates the static configurations and the dynamic behaviors of a single point mooring line. To obtain the static configuration and static tension distribution along the mooring line, including the effect of fluid nonlinear drag and the elasticity of the line, the Runge-Kutta fourth order numerical method was used. The relationship between the horizontal excursion and the horizontal restoring force component of the mooring line, which is very important to a mooring line design, and the effect of a subsurface buoy on the static configuration are presented. In nonlinear dynamic analysis including nonlinear fluid drag acting on the line and geometrical nonlinearity for large deflections, finite element method using updated Lagrangian was used to obtain the solution. In the case of upper end harmonic excitation of the mooring line, the dynamic motion and the tension were also presented.

  • A novel bumping process using solder bump maker is developed for the maskless low-volume solder on pad (SoP) technology of fine-pitch flip chip bonding. The process includes two main steps: one is the aggregation of powdered solder on the metal pads on a substrate via an increase in temperature, and the other is the reflow of the deposited powder to form a low-volume SoP. Since the surface tension that exists when the solder is below its melting point is the major driving force of the solder deposit, only a small quantity of powdered solder adjacent to the pads can join the aggregation process to obtain a uniform, low-volume SoP array on the substrate, regardless of the pad configurations. Through this process, an SoP array on an organic substrate with a pitch of $130{\mu}m$ is successfully formed.

  • The disjoining pressure is an important physical property in modeling the small-scale transport phenomena on thin film. It is a very useful definition in characterizing the non-continuum effects that are not negligible in heat and mass transport of the film thinner than submicro-scales. We present the calculated values of disjoining pressure of He, Kr and Xe thin films absorbed on graphite substrate using Molecular Dynamics Simulation (MD). The disjoining pressure is accurately calculated in the resolution of a molecular scale of the film thickness. The characteristics of the pressure are discussed regarding the molecular nature of the fluid system such as molecular diameter and intermolecular interaction parameters. The MD results are also compared with those based on the continuum approximation of the slab-like density profile and the results on other novel gases in the previous study. The discrepancies of the continuum model with MD results are shown in all three configurations and discussed in the view point of molecular features.

  • Given a set of three generator circles in a plane, we want to find a circumcircle of these generators. This problem is a part of well-known Apollonius' $10^{th}$ Problem and is frequently encountered in various geometric computations such as the Voronoi diagram for circles. It turns out that this seemingly trivial problem is not at all easy to solve in a general setting. In addition, there can be several degenerate configurations of the generators. For example, there may not exist any circumcircle, or there could be one or two circumcircle(s) depending on the generator configuration. Sometimes, a circumcircle itself may degenerate to a line. We show that the problem can be reduced to a point location problem among the regions bounded by two lines and two transformed circles via $M{\ddot{o}}bius$ transformations in a complex space. The presented algorithm is simple and the required computation is negligible. In addition, several degenerate cases are all incorporated into a unified framework.

  • An automatic transfer line consists of several stages(groups of stations) in series into one system by a common transfer mechanism and a common control system. In this system losses of the efficiency are evidenced in periods where a stage is forcod down- starved or blocked. The efficiency of an automatic transfer line can be improved by providing buffer storages between a stage or the length of line common senses there are several critical factors, system configurations relative position, and buffer capacity allocations in automatic transfer line are considered with a point of view production rates, average stock, and mean delay. The propose of this paper is to provide the robust designs by Taguchi method which improve the efficiency of four-stage transfer line.

  • Response modification factor is one of the seismic design parameters to consider nonlinear performance of building structures during strong earthquake, in conformity with the point that many seismic design codes led to reduce the loads. In the present paper it's tried to evaluate the response modification factors of dual moment resistant frame with buckling restrained braced (BRB). Since, the response modification factor depends on ductility and overstrength; the nonlinear static analysis, nonlinear dynamic analysis and linear dynamic analysis have been done on building models including multi-floors and different brace configurations (chevron V, invert V, diagonal and X bracing). The response modification factor for each of the BRBF dual systems has been determined separately, and the tentative value of 10.47 has been suggested for allowable stress design method. It is also included that the ductility, overstrength and response modification factors for all of the models were decreased when the height of the building was increased.

  • An interactive multicriteria method, which is called the Modified Pairwise Comparison Stochastic Cutting Plane (MPCSCP) method, is proposed for determining the best levels of the integer decision variables needed to optimize a stochastic computer simulation with multiple response functions. MPCSCP combines good features from interactive tradeoff cutting plane methods and response surface methodologies. The proposed method uses a simple pairwise man-machine interaction and searches an integer space uniformly by using the experimental design which evaluates the decision space centering around an integer center point. The characteristics of the proposed method are investigated through an extensive computational study. The parameter configurations examined in the study are (1) variability of the sampling errors, (2) the size of experimental design, (3) the relaxation of cutting planes, and (4) the levels of decision maker's inconsistency.
