  • The paper aims to highlight residents' preference of park close to industrial area in Seo-gu, Daegu City. Questionnaire survey was the main research method for the study from June to August last year. There were 2 survey questionnaires, one is for satisfaction degree regarding residents' general park use and the other is especially for vest-pocket use. For the research, 150 questionnaires were surveyed for each park users(total 300 questionnaires) and 270 questionnaires are used for the statistical analysis. The analysis showed that small vest pocket sized park was the proper model for close to industrial area. The majority residents preferred small park close to a residential area, also 77% of residents who use vest-pocket park replied that they live within 10 minute walking distance from there. In the case of Seo-gu, there were several small vest pocket sized parks which can satisfy the residents' preference. Therefore the plan which utilize them positively is necessary.

  • PURPOSE: This study aims to examine the impact of the location of a walker-aid pocket that is attached to the walker while walking. METHODS: The research subjects included 10 male adults and 10 elderly people. The subjects used a two-wheeled walker for the walking analysis, and a firm velcro-type pocket that can be attached to the walker aid was used for weight loading. The size of the external loads was set at 2kg, which corresponds to approximately 2.5% of the mean body weight of the subjects. The pocket was attached to the left, center, and right sides of the walker aid. Stride length, stride, step width, and time were investigated according to the location change. RESULTS: No statistical differences were observed in all the walking factors among the adults and elderly people regardless of the changes in the location of the walker pocket. In cases of no weight and the 2kg walker pocket, stride length and strides were longer for the adults, while the step width was greater and walking time was longer for the elderly people. CONCLUSION: The weight of the walker pocket turn out to retard walking speed, although the location of the walker pocket is not affect walking with the walker-aid.

  • Metal stamping is widely used in the mass-production process of the automobile. During the stamping process, air may be trapped between the draw die and the panel and/or between the punch and the panel. Air pocket rapidly not only increases forming load in the final stage, but also deforms the product just formed by compressive air inside the air pocket in knockout process. To prevent these problems air bent holes are drilled in the die to exhaust the trapped air but all processes associated with air bent holes are performed by empirical know-how of workers in the field due to lack of researches. Therefore this study developed an automated design system for predicting the shape and position, and volume of air pocket on the draw die by using the AutoLISP language under AutoCAD circumstance. The system is able to display the shape of air pocket occurred in the draw die and to calculate automatically its volume by strokes. So it makes a stepping stone to calculate theoretical size of an air bent hole and numbers according to it by predicting and analyzing the position and volume of air pocket. Results obtained from the system enable the designers or manufacturers of the stamping die to be more efficient in this field.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine whether periodontal pocket could be satisfactorily visualized by optical coherence tomography (OCT) and to suggest quantitative methods for measuring periodontal pocket depth. Methods: We acquired OCT images of periodontal pockets in a porcine model and determined the actual axial resolution for measuring the exact periodontal pocket depth using a calibration method. Quantitative measurements of periodontal pockets were performed by real axial resolution and compared with the results from manual periodontal probing. Results: The average periodontal pocket depth measured by OCT was $3.10{\pm}0.15mm$, $4.11{\pm}0.17mm$, $5.09{\pm}0.17mm$, and $6.05{\pm}0.21mm$ for each periodontal pocket model, respectively. These values were similar to those obtained by manual periodontal probing. Conclusions: OCT was able to visualize periodontal pockets and show attachment loss. By calculating the calibration factor to determine the accurate axial resolution, quantitative standards for measuring periodontal pocket depth can be established regardless of the position of periodontal pocket in the OCT image.

  • In order to determine the relationship between probing pocket depth and trypsin-like activity in subgingival plaque, probing pocket depth and loss of attachment were measured by Michigan-O probe on mandibular incisors of 30 patients with adult periodontitis. And the trypsin-like activity of Treponema denticola, Porphyromonas gingivalis, and Bacteroides forsythus was evaluated by the hydrolysis of N-Benzoyl-DL-Arginine-2-Naphthyla-mide (BANA) using PerioScan reagent cards(Oral-B Laboratories, Redwood City, CA). The obtained data were statistically analyzed by Microstat program. The results were as follows. 1. The number of teeth showing negative trypsin-like activity was more in shallow periodontal pocket groups, but the number of teeth showing positive trypsin-like activity was more in deep periodontal pocket groups. 2. There was a significant positive correlation between probing pocket depth and trypsin-like activity in subgingival plaque(y=0.413X - 0.955, r = 0.7024, p<0.001). 3. There was no consistent relationship between loss of attachment and trypsin-like activity in subgingival plaque(p>0.01).

  • In this paper, we address how to reduce the length of tool retraction in a zigzag pocket machining. Tool retraction, in a zigzag pocket machining, is a non-cutting operation in which the tool moves to any remaining regions for machining. We developed an algorithm of generating tool retraction length in convex or concave polygonal shapes including islands. In the algorithm, we consider concave areas of cutting direction in the polygonal shape. Considering concave areas of cutting direction, the polygonal shape is decomposed to subregions which do not need any tool retraction. Using the proposed algorithm, we calculated the shortest length of tool retraction in cutting direction. Examples are shown to verify the validity of the algorithm.

  • In sheet metal forming process using press and draw die some defect can be made because of the high pressure of air pocket between draw die and the product. The purpose of this study is to develop a program to decide an optimal combination of air vent hole size and number to prevent those defect on product. The air inside air pocket is considered as ideal gas and the compression and expansion is assumed as isentropic process. The mass flow is computed in two flow condition: unchocked and chocked condition. The present computation obtains required cross-sectional area of air vent hole for not exceeding the user specified pressure such as the pressure for yielding strength of the product or the pressure for unchocked flow. To validate the program the present results are compared with the results of other researchers and commercial CFD code.

  • Metal stamping is widely used in the mass-production process of the automobile industry. During the stamping process, air may be trapped between the draw die and the panel. The high pressure of trapped air induces imperfections on the panel surface and creates a situation where an extremely high tonnage of punch is required. To prevent these problems, many air ventilation holes are drilled through the draw die and the punch. The present work has developed a simplified mathematical formulation for computing the pressure of the air pocket based on the ideal gas law and isentropic relation. The pressure of the air pocket was compared to the results by the commercial CFD code, Fluent, and experiments. The present work also used the Bisection method to calculate the optimum cross-sectional area of the air ventilation holes, which did not make the pressure of the air pocket exceed the prescribed maximum value.
