  • A double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) mycovirus was detected in malformed fruiting bodies of Pleurotus ostreatus strain ASI2792, one of bottle cultivated commercial strains of the edible oyster mushroom. The partial RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) gene of the P. ostreatus ASI2792 mycovirus (PoV-ASI2792) was cloned, and a cDNA sequences alignment revealed that the sequence was identical to the RdRp gene of a known PoSV found in the P. ostreatus strain. To investigate the symptoms of PoV-ASI2792 infection by comparing the isogenic virus-free P. ostreatus strains with a virus-infected strain, isogenic virus-cured P. ostreatus strains were obtained by the mycelial fragmentation method for virus curing. The absence of virus was verified with gel electrophoresis after dsRNA-specific virus purification and Northern blot analysis using a partial RdRp cDNA of PoV-ASI2792. The growth rate and mycelial dry weight of virus-infected P. ostreatus strain with PoV-ASI2792 mycovirus were compared to those of three virus-free isogenic strains on 10 different media. The virus-cured strains showed distinctly higher mycelial growth rates and dry weights on all kinds of experimental culture media, with at least a 2.2-fold higher mycelial growth rate on mushroom complete media (MCM) and Hamada media, and a 2.7-fold higher mycelial dry weight on MCM and yeast-malt-glucose agar media than those of the virus-infected strain. These results suggest that the infection of PoV mycovirus has a deleterious effect on the vegetative growth of P. ostreatus.

  • The formation and dissolution of hydroxides, carbonates and hydroxyapatite (HAp), which depend on the pH of solution, are important factor for the preparation of homogeneous and fine HAp, $Ca_{10-x}(HPO_4)_x(PO_4)_{6-x}(OH)_{2-x}(x=0)$, ceramic powder from the $Ca-PO_4-H_2O$ system. Since the solubility of each complex ion is a linear function of pH, the solubility diagram can be obtained by plotting the logarithmic molar concentrations calculated from the values of the equilibrium constants and solubility products for hydroxides, carbonates, and hydroxyapatite. The optimum pH condition for the formation of single phase $Ca_{10-x}(HPO_4)_x(PO_4)_{6-x}(OH)_{2-x}(x=0)$ powder in $Ca-PO_4-H_2O$ system at $25^{\circ}C$ was estimated as $10.5{\pm}0.5$ through the theoretical consideration. The HAp powder dried at $80^{\circ}C$ showed a fine agglomerated particles with a size of 75 nm. The HAp powder calcined at $1,000^{\circ}C$ consisted of nearly homogeneous particles with a size of 450 nm. Even though the dried HAp particles consisted of agglomeration, mechanical properties were superior due to fine microstructure after sintering.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the effect of operational parameters such as dosage of magnesium and phosphate, pH, reaction time and existence crystal core for the removal of nitrogen and phosphorus in anaerobic fermentation supernatant by struvite crystallization. Optimal mole ratio of $Mg^{2+}:NH_4{^+}:PO_4{^{3-}}$ was 1.2:1.0:1.2. Under the optimal molar ratio, removal ratio and reaction rate constant of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $PO_4{^{3-}}-P$ were 79.2, 96.8%, 0.157 and $0.344min^{-1}$, respectively. Optimal pH and reaction time were 11 and 10 minutes, respectively, in the optimal molar ratio. Residual concentration of $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $PO_4{^{3-}}-P$ showed lowest value with 1 g/L of crystal core addition. SEM analysis of struvite crystallization with crystal core showed higher crystal core growth than that of without crystal core. Struvite precipitate proved to be orthorhomic crystal structure by XRD analysis.

  • Myostatin (MSTN), a member of the transforming growth factor (TGF)-beta family, is a potent negative regulator of skeletal muscle growth and maintenance. The MSTN prodomain inhibits MSTN biological activity. The rotifer Brachionus rotundiformis is an excellent primary live feed for fish larvae in aquaculture; however, it is not known whether the rotifer expresses MSTN and the MSTN prodomain along with its activity. The objective of this study was to examine the effects of recombinant MSTN prodomains. Individual cultures of the rotifer B. rotundiformis were carried out to determine the effect of recombinant MSTN prodomains (pMALc2x-poMSTNpro and pMALc2x-sMSTNpro) on the pre-reproductive phase, reproductive phase, post-reproductive phase, offspring, lifespan, fecundity, and male ratio. In addition, a population culture of the rotifer was performed to confirm the effects of pMALc2x-poMSTNpro and pMALc2x-sMSTNpro on population growth. The results showed that the rotifer treated with pMALc2x-pMSTNpro had a reduced pre-reproductive phase at higher concentrations (1, 2, and 4 ${\mu}g/ml$) compared to the non-treated control group. Moreover, the pMALc2xsMSTNpro treated rotifer effectively decreased the pre-reproductive phase at a lower concentration (0.25 ${\mu}g/ml$) compared to the pMALc2x-pMSTNpro treated and control group. Interestingly, pMALc2x-poMSTNpro and pMALc2x-sMSTNpro significantly increased the population of $B.$ $rotundiformis$.

  • Package-On-Package (PoP) technology is developing toward smaller form factors with high-speed data transfer capabilities to cope with high DDR4x memory capacity. The common application processor (AP) used for PoP devices in smartphones has the bottom package as logic and the top package as memory, which requires both thermally and electrically enhanced functions. Therefore, it is imperative that PoP designs consider both thermal and power distribution network (PDN) issues. Stacked packages have poorer thermal dissipation than single packages. Since the bottom package usually has higher power consumption than the top package, the bottom package impacts the thermal budget of the top package (memory). This paper investigates the thermal and electrical characteristics of PoP designs, particularly the bottom package. Findings include that via and dense via-cluster volume have an important role to lower thermal resistance to the motherboard, which can be an effective way to manage chip hot spots and reduce the thermal impact on the memory package. A Cu block and dense via-cluster layout with an optimal location are proposed to drain the heat from the chip hot spots to motherboard which will enhance thermal and electrical performance at the design stage. The analytical thermal results can be used for design guidelines in 3D packaging.

  • Water parsley(Oenanthe javanica(Blume) DC) was raised with varying population density(S) in the laboratory aquarium unit to determine the growth equation. The population density was measure after 7 days. The resultant growth curve was well fit to the equation 1/S = A+B (1/S0) with a high correlation coefficient ($R^2$ = 0.999). The maximum specific absorption rate was $9.011 \times 10^{-5}$ kg $NO_x-N/kg$ water parsley$\cdot$day and $1.31 \times 10^{-5}$ kg $PO_4-P/kg$ water parsley$\cdot$day when the average population density was $2.62 kg/m^2$. The relationship between population density and nutrient absorption rate, the absorption rate of $NO_x-N$ was 5.04~5.24 mg/l$\cdot$day when the population density was $7.51~10.0 $mg/m^2\cdot day$ and the absorption rate of $PO_4-P$ was 0.56~0.78 mg/l$\cdot$day when the population density was 5.02~10.0 $kg/m^2\cdot day$. Taking into account the nutrient absorption rate and growth rate, the population density between $7.0 kg/m^2\cdot day$ and $8.0 kg/m^2 \cdot day$ was selected. The removal rate of nutrient was investigated after 7 days culture. Removal rate of $NO_x-N$ was 95.6~99.95% with initial concentration of 35 mg $NO_x-N/l$, and the removal rate of $PO_4-P$ was also high, indicating 80.24~98.9% with initial concentration of 5.95 mg $PO_x-P/l$.

  • To evaluate the removal performance of PO4-P and NH3-N, laboratory experiments were conducted by filling a container with oyster shells, pyrolyzed at 100℃ (POS100), 600℃ (POS600) and 800℃ (POS800), and passing artificial wastewaters through the container. The pH in the ef luent was found to increase due to CaO eluted from oyster shell. Removal amounts of PO4-P of ~23.1 mg/kg, 16.1 mg/kg, and 15.9 mg/kg were obtained when POS100, POS600, and POS800, respectively, were used; therefore, the highest PO4-P removal amount was obtained when POS100 was used. It is considered that Ca and dolomite in the oyster shells adsorbed and precipitated PO4-P. Removal amounts of NH3-N were of ~3.56 mg/kg, 5.72 mg/kg, and 3.97 mg/kg were obtained when POS100, POS600, and POS800, respectively, were used The low removal rate for NH3-N is probably due to unstable nitrification, use of sealed containers, and the effect of NH3-N being converted to NH4+ upon increasing pH. Based on these results, pyrolyzed oyster shell is expected to promote changes in PO4-P and NH3-N concentrations through chemical reactions. These results can also be used for basic research in the development of wastewater treatment.

  • A method is described for the determination of the Po nuclides in a water sample. After the Po nuclides were purified from interfering elements in a water sample using a manganese dioxide precipitation followed by a solvent extraction method, the Po nuclides were deposited onto the silver plate. A large volume of the water sample was effectively pretreated with manganese dioxide precipitation method. To determine the optimum conditions for plating Po, the effects of the pH, volume, temperature and time on the Po deposition were investigated in hydrochloric acid solution. The investigated determination method of Po nuclides with solvent extraction was applied to a tap water sample.

  • The incorporation of cobalt into mesoporous molecular sieves MCM-41 and MCM-48 was carried out. Co-PO/MCM41 and Co-PO/MCM48 were prepared using Co(II) acetate solution adjusted to pH = 3.0 with phosphoric acid by the incipient wetness method. Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS) was used to study the local environments of Co(II) incorporated into mesopores. The band around 500 nm in PAS of as-prepared Co-PO/MCM41 and Co-PO/MCM48 with Co(II) acetate solution was changed to triplet bands around 600 nm. This could be assigned to the 4 A2(F)-> 4T1(P) transition of Co(II) surrounded tetrahedrally by oxygen ions after calcination. It may be attributable to that the octahedral cobalt species containing phosphate ligands in coordination sphere reacting with framework's silanol groups to be dispersed atomically onto the surface of mesoporous molecular sieves as a tetrahedral species. This is unlike that the Co in Co-Cl/MCM41 and direct-synthesized Co-MCM41 transforms to Co oxide phase upon calcination. Co-PO/MCM41 and Co-PO/MCM48 were stable while treated with water.
