To automate the polishing process, a polishing robot with two axes which is attached to a machining center with three axes has been developed by our previous research. This automatic polishing robot is able to keep the polishing tool normal to the curved surface of die and is able to maintain a constant pneumatic pressure. Therefore, in the case of a curved surface die, the surface roughness to be polished by the system with five axes is improved superior than the surface by a three-axis machining center. However, because the polishing robot was big and heavy, a polishing workspace was limited and then it was difficult to attach the robot to machining center. In this study, the smaller and lighter polishing robot than the previous has been designed to improve defects due to the magnitude and weight of the robot. And the sliding mode control ins applied to polishing robot to improve the tracking performance. To obtain switching parameters of sliding mode control, the signal compression method is used. Code separation program to separate the date for a three-axis machining center and a two-axis polishing robot from a five-axis NC data is improved for users to check conveniently the separated trajectory and to handle many data by using the graphic user interface. To evaluate the polishing performance of the developed robot, the polishing experiment for shadow mask was carried out. The result shows the automatic polishing robot has a good trajectory tracking performance and obtains a good polished workpiece efficiently under recommended polishing conditions.

Objective : A study of the histopathologic and neurobehavioral correlates of cortical impact injury produced by increasing impact velocity using the controlled cortical impact[CCI] injury model is studied. Methods : Twenty-four Sprague-Dawley rats [$200{\sim}250g$] were given CCI injury using a pneumatically driven piston. Effect of impact velocity on a 3mm deformation was assessed at 2.5m/sec [n=6], 3.0m/sec [n=6], 3.5m/sec [n=6], and no injury [n=6]. After postoperative 24hours the rats were evaluated using several neurobehavioral tests including the rotarod test, beam-balance performance, and postural reflex test. Contusion volume and histopathologic findings were evaluated for each of the impact velocities. Results : On the rota rod test, all the injured rats exhibited a significant difference compared to the sham-operated rats and increased velocity correlated with increased deficit [p<0.001]. Contusion volume increased with increasing impact velocity. For the 2.5, 3.0, and 3.5m/sec groups, injured volumes were $18.8{\pm}2.3mm^3$, $26.8{\pm}3.1mm^3$, and $32.5{\pm}3.5mm^3$, respectively. In addition, neuronal loss in the hippocampal sub-region increased with increasing impact velocity. In the TUNEL staining, all the injured groups exhibited definitely positive cells at pericontusional area. However, there were no significant differences in the number of positive cells among the injured groups. Conclusion : Cortical impact velocity is a critical parameter in producing cortical contusion. Severity of cortical injury is proportional to increasing impact velocity of cortical injury.

In this study, the aspherical lens for optical communications produced not with an one-step pneumatic type of external pressurization system (existed GMP process) but a constant weight of self-loaded mold put up to upper core. So the lens is molding with self-loaded weight molding and it calls Weight Molding process. In self-loaded molding process, we measured changes of center thickness molding lenses with each variable molding temperatures and time to find the effect of center of lens thickness to search key factors. As experimental results, the center thickness reach to targeted lenses step time value was changed drastically and it depends by molding temperature. If the molding temperature gets higher, the targeted lens that is reaching to the center thickness step time value was decreased. To find the effect of life improvement on mold core by imposing the self-loaded molding process we molded with GMP(Glass molding press) method and self-loaded molding method for 9,000 times and measured the lenses shape accuracy and surface roughness to evaluate the core life. As a result the self-loaded molding method core has 2,000 times longer that GMP (Glass molding press) method. If we adopt self-loaded molding method of the optical aspherical lens molding in the future, we expect that it would reduce the expense of changing the molds by molding core life improvements.
This paper implements a system that monitors human body lifting information in the event of a marine accident. The monitoring system performs ultrasonic communication through a lifting device controller that transmits underwater environment information, and LoRa communication is performed on the water to provide GPS information within 10 km to the control center or mother ship. The underwater lifting controller transmits pneumatic sensor, gyro sensor, and temperature sensor information. In an environment where the underwater conditions increase by one atmosphere of water pressure every 10m in depth, and the amount of air in the instrument decreases by half compared to land, a model of a 60kg underwater mannequin is used. Using one 38g CO2 cartridge in the lifting appliance SMB(Surface Maker Buoy), carry out a lifting appliance discharge test based on the water level rise conditions within 10 sec. Underwater communication constitutes a data transmission environment using a 2,400-bps ultrasonic sensor from a depth of 40m to 100m. The monitoring signal aims to ensure the safety and safe human structure of the salvage worker by providing water depth, water temperature, and directional angle to rescue workers on the surface of the water.
This study presents an experimental investigation of the effects of surface roughness on gas foil thrust bearing (GFTB) performance. A high-speed motor with the maximum speed of 80 krpm rotates a thrust runner and a pneumatic cylinder applies static loads to the test GFTB. When the motor speed increases and reaches a specific speed at which a hydrodynamic film pressure generated within the gap between the thrust runner and test GFTB is enough to support the applied static load, the thrust runner lifts off from the test GFTB and the friction mechanism changes from the boundary lubrication to the hydrodynamic lubrication. The experiment shows a series of lift-off test and load-carrying capacity test for two thrust runners with different surface roughnesses. For a constant static load of 15 N, thrust runner A with its lower surface roughness exhibits a higher start-up torque but lower lift-off torque than thrust runner B with a higher surface roughness. The load capacity test at a rotor speed of 60 krpm reveals that runner A results in a higher maximum load capacity than runner B. Runner A also shows a lower drag torque, friction coefficient, and bearing temperature than runner B at constant static loads. The results imply that maintaining a consistent surface roughness for a thrust runner may improve its static GFTB performance.
Background: In order to develop the acute heart failure model for the animal experiment of the pneumatic ventricular assist device, we decided to use young pig whose coronary artery distribution is almost the same as humans and also very cheap in price. The purpose of this study is to develop stable, reproducible acute ischemic heart failure model in swine using coronary artery ligation method. Material and Method: Five young pigs whose weights are the same as adult humans are under experiment. Each pig was under endotracheal intubation and connected to a mechanical ventilator. Through left lateral thoracotomy, we exposed the heart and induced ischemic heart failure by coronary artery ligation. The ligation began at the distal part of the left anterior descending coronary artery. After 5 minutes of initial ligation we reperfused the artery and then re-ligated. Before and after each ligation-reperfusion procedure we assessed the left ventricular end-diastolic pressure, arterial pressure, and cardiac index. We also measured left ventricular end-diastolic dimension, end-systolic dimension, fractional shortening, ejection fraction using intraoperative epicardial echocardiography. After appropriate heart failure was established with sequential (from distal part of LAD to proximal location) ligation-reperfusion-ligation procedure, we inserted the ventricular assist device and operated. Result: We established stable acute ischemic heart failure in 3 of 5 young pigs with this sequential ligation-reperfusion-ligation procedure, and could maintained 50% less ejection fraction before the procedure according to intraoperative epicardial echocardiography. We also observed no ventricular arrhythmia usually associated with simple coronary artery ligation in large animals and no cardiac arrest associated with ventricular arrhythmia or myocardial stunning. In pathologic specimen, we observed scattered ischemic myocardium in all around the ischemic field induced by coronary artery ligation. Conclusion: Under the concept of ischemic preconditioning, we developed safe and reproducible acute ischemic heart failure model in swine using sequential coronary artery ligation-reperfusion-ligation method.

Blood flow restriction(BFR) exercise is defined as low intensity and short term exercise using pneumatic pressure belts at the top of limbs, which affects the physiological functions of the body. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of walking exercise with BFR on inflammatory index, isokinetic muscle function, and thigh circumference in obese women. Eleven obese women(> BMI $25kg/m^2$ & > body fat 30%) wore pneumatic pressure belts on both femurs and performed walking exercise twice per day, 3 days/wk for 4 weeks (walking 2 min; resting 1 min). Data analysis was carried out using paired t-test. Body weight, BMI, and body fat significantly decreased after exercise(p<.05), and right thigh circumference significantly decreased(p<.05). The concentration of plasma IL-6 significantly increased(p<.05) after exercise. TNF-${\alpha}$ level was not statistically different but tended to slightly increase. CRP slightly decreased, although it did not reach statistical significance after exercise. Muscle strength significantly increased in the $60^{\circ}/sec$ of right/left side extension, left side flexion, and $180^{\circ}/sec$ of left side extension after training(p<.05). These results suggest that 4 weeks of blood flow restriction walking exercise has positive effects on inflammatory index and isokinetic muscle function. Therefore, we consider that blood flow restriction exercise can be used for treatment of obesity, related chronic diseases, and metabolic syndrome. Further, blood flow restriction exercise for a short time has similar effects as a high intensity resistance program.

This study focuses on the verification of a rapid protection automation system using an inflatable structure. The inflatable structure is an automatic rapid protection system against human and material damage when the subsea tunnel is flooded. Especially, it is essential for construction and operation of subsea tunnels. In this study, we have experimentally verified the rapid protection automation system using the inflatable structure designed for this problem. In order to verify this, a model tunnel with a 40: 1 reduction ratio was constructed, and air pressure of 0.1 bar and 0.15 bar was injected to divide the tunnel according to the expansion rate at 10 sec and 20 sec. According to the results of the study, the protection efficiency was better at 0.15 bar than 0.1 bar when the expansion structure was expanded, and the protection efficiency and influent control efficiency were different according to the pneumatic injection time of the inflating structure. As a result of this study, it was found that the higher the internal air pressure of the inflated structure and the faster the inflation of rate, the more effectively the inflated structure was inflated. As a result of this study, it is necessary to further study the wedge type structure which is useful for the storage method of expansion structure, shape and expansion derivative, inhibition of expansion structure during protection and control of inflow water.
Background : Continuous positive airway pressure(CPAP) is doubtlessly using as a medical treatment of choice for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome. CPAP is effective in OSA patients as a physical "pneumatic pressure splint" mechanism. We have done this study for two purposes, first to seek for the factors to determine the optimal CPAP titer, second to predict the minimal CPAP titer using the determined factors. Methods: We studied a 72 OSA patients who were treated with CPAP. All of them were studied by using a two nights polysomnographic rests in hospital. We compared the patients requiring CPAP over $10cmH_2O$ with those who required CPAP under 5cm $H_2O$ to determine the factors affecting the minimal CPAP titer. Results : The high CPAP group is characterized by a significantly higher body mass index(BMI), apnea index(AI) and apnea and hyponea index(AHI) and significantly lower lowest $SaO_2$. Regression analysis using the optimal four variables resulted in the following prediction equation for CPAP titer. CPAPtiter=8.382 + 0.064 ${\times}$ BMI + 0.077 ${\times}$ AI - 0.004 ${\times}$ AHI - 0.077 ${\times}$ lowest $SaO_2$ When this regression equation was applied to the 72 patients, the mean CPAP titer as predicted by the above equation was $7.80{\pm}2.96$ mmHg. Compared this value with actually determined CPAPtiter, $7.93{\pm}4.00$mmHg, there was no significant difference between the two values. Conclusion: Obesity, apnea severity and lowest Sa02 were strongly correlated with CPAP titer. Linear regression equation for CPAP titer using these indices predicted very closely the actually measured values in the sleep laboratory.

AlN thin films have been fabricated by using RF magnetron sputtering method and their crystal orientations, microstructures and piezoelectric properties have been investigated with variation of the $Ar/N_2$ gas ratio and the substrate temperature. Particularly, when the $Ar/N_2$ gas ratio and the substrate temperature are 10/10 (sccm) and $400^{\circ}C$, respectively, the AlN thin film exhibits the highest (002) orientation. The result of the surface roughness measurement by using AFM shows that the surface roughness becomes better as the partial pressure of $N_2$ increases at the substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$ and it becomes the smallest value of 2.1 nm when $Ar/N_2$ is 0/20 (sccm). The AFM measurement also shows that when $Ar/N_2$ is 10/10 (sccm) shows that surface roughness becomes better as the substrate temperature increases from room temperature up to $300^{\circ}C$ and then it becomes worse as the substrate temperature goes up from $300^{\circ}C$. At the substrate temperature of $300^{\circ}C$ and $Ar/N_2$=10/10 (sccm), the surface roughness is 3.036 nm. The piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) of AlN thin film is measured by Pneumatic probe method. The measurement shows that the AlN thin film with the highest (002) orientation, fabricated at $Ar/N_2$=10/10 (sccm) and the substrate temperature of $400^{\circ}C$, has the best Piezoelectric constant ($d_{33}$) of 6.01 pC/N.
