Pleurotus species are commercially essential mushrooms and widely cultivated throughout the world. The production of Pleurotus mushrooms alone accounts for around 25% of that total cultivated mushrooms globally. In America and Europe, Pleurotus species are considered specialty mushrooms, whereas, in Korea, their cultivation is economically profitable, and it is one of the highly consumed species. Pleurotus species are predominantly found in tropical forests and often grow on fallen branches, dead and decaying tree stumps, and wet logs. Biographical studies have shown that the Pleurotus genus is among the more conspicuous fungi that induce wood decay in terrestrial ecosystems worldwide due to its formidable lignin-modifying enzymes, including laccase and versatile peroxidases. Pleurotus species can be grown easily due to their fast colonization nature on diversified agro-substrates and their biological efficiency 100%. Pleurotus mushrooms are rich in proteins, dietary fiber, essential amino acids, carbohydrates, water-soluble vitamins, and minerals. These mushrooms are abundant in functional bioactive molecules, though to influence health. Pleurotus mushrooms are finding unique applications as flavoring, aroma, and excellent preservation quality. Apart from its unique applications, Pleurotus mushrooms have a unique status delicacy with high nutritional and medicinal values. The present review provides an insight into the cultivation of Pleurotus spp. using different agro-waste as growth substances paying attention to their effects on the growth and chemical composition.
The internal regions of nuclear small subunit rRNA from 6 plaeurotus species and 5 Pleurotus ostreatus strains were amplified by PCR and sequenced. The DNA sequences of 8 Pleurotus strains (P. ostreatus NFFA2, NFFA4501, NFFA4001, KFFA4001, KFCC11635, P florida, P. florida, P. sajor-cuju, P. pulmonarius, and P. spodoleucus) were idential, but P. cornucopiae differed from them in two bases out of 605 bases. However, p[hylogenetic analysis of the sequences by DNA-distance matrix and UPGMA methods showed that P. ostreatus NFFA2m1 and NFFA2m2, known as mutants of P. ostreatus NFFA2, belonged to anther group of Basidiomycotina, which is close to the genus Auricularia. The difference of the SSU rDNA sequences of P. cornucopiae from other Pleurotus species tested corresponds to the difference of mitochondrial plasmid type present in Pleurotus species as observed by Kim et al. (1993, Korean J. Microbiol. 31, 141-147).

Cell cycle arrest at G1 phase was achieved by treatment of early log a cell cultures with .alpha.-factor mating pheromone, which induces G1 arrest. The result suggests that passage through S phase (and therefore DNA replication) is nor required for re-establishing silencer-mediated repression at the HMNRa/HSP82 locus. Finally, to test whether de nono protein synthesis is required for re-establishment of silencer-mediated repression, cells were pretreated with cycloheximide (500 /.mu.g/ml) 120 min. It was apparent that inhibiting protein synthesis delays, but does not prevent, re-establishment of silencer-mediated repression. Altogether, these results indicate that re-establishment of silencer-mediated repression is not dependent on the DNA replication and has no requirement for protein synthesis.
The effect of ionic osmotic potential (Ψ$\pi$), and matric potential (Ψm) in the range of -0.2 to -4.0 Mpa on mycelial growth of three species of Pleurotus (P.florida, P.ostrenatus and P.safor-caju) were determined over a range of temperature (15-3$0^{\circ}C$) on a 2% malt extract agar medium and compared with the Ψ$\pi$ effect on growth of two strains of Trichoderma green mould. With the ionic solute KCl, optimun Ψ$\pi$for growth was -0.2 MPa for P.floreda and in the range of -0.2 to -0.5 MPa, with slight growth at -3.0 MPa and with nogrowth at -4.0 MPa. Of the species of Pleurotus, P.florida grew signigicantly slower than the other two species. Growt of the species of Pleurocus was significantly slower when water potential (Ψ$\omega$) was modified matrically with polyethylene glycol (PEG) 8000 then osmotically with KCl. They were also more sensitive to changes in Ψm than Ψ$\pi$The optimum Ψm of the Pleurotus was -0.5 Ψm, with no growth below -3.0 MPa. Of the species of Pleurotus, P.florida was most sensitive and P.sajor-caju was more tolerent to lowered Ψ$\pi$,but P.sajor-caju was most sensitive to lowered Ψm. The growth rate of the Trichoderma green mould strains was much faster than that observed for the Pleurotus spp. Optimum growth for bot strains of Trichoderma was in the range of -0.2 to -0.5 MPa. Strain CNU 503 was more tolerant to water stress than strain CNU 501. Both strains were able to grow up to 30% of optimum growth at -4.0 MPa at 25-3$0^{\circ}C$.

The biological efficiencies of promising Pleurotus spp. were evaluated. Pleurotus ostreatus, Pleurotus tuberregium, and Pleurotus sajor-cajuwere investigated at temperatures of 22℃, 20℃, and 18℃ to determine their ability to adapt to temperatures that are likely to be found in subtropical regions. The experiment was conducted using a substrate comprising Popular sawdust 60% + cotton seed 20% + beet pulp 20% under a relative humidity of 65%. The results indicated that there were significant differences in terms of biological efficiency between the species: P. tuber regium 128.84% at 22℃, P. ostreatus 108.41% at 22℃, and P. sajor-caju is 80% at 20℃. The common temperatures at which all species showed the highest biological efficiencies were 22℃ and 20℃. Therefore, the production of the evaluated species was equal to or surpassed biological efficiencies reported in tropical environments, thereby demonstrating a potential opportunity to adapt to tropical environments without compromising quality standards.
Oyster mushrooms including of P. ostreatus, P. eryngii, P. pulmonarius and P. cornucopiae are one of the famous mushrooms for foods in Korea. RAPD were carried out using 14 of oligoprimers to analyze the phylogenetic relationship among 57 strains of 32 Pleurotus species. Most of species formed the minimum clade with strains within species and was divided respectively species. Therefore clade was separated well in accordance species. Pleurotus species formed again clade to be added in close related to other species, and were discriminated by sixteen clades with each representative species including high similarity groups. Sixteen clades were composed representative species according to each clade. There were clade I of P. pulmonarius(P. sajor-caju, P. opuntiae, P. sapidus), clade II of P. eryngii(P. fuscus var. ferulae, P. fossulatus), clade III of P. ostreatus(P. ostreatus var. columbinus, P. spodoleucus, P. floridanus), clade IV of P. florida, clade V of P. djamor(P. flabellatus, P. incarnates, P. salmoneo-stramineus), clade VII of P. populinus(P. subareolatus), clade VIII of P. cystidiosus(P. cystidiosus var. formosensis), clade X of P. dryinus(P. dryinus var. pometi), clade XIV of P. cornucopiae(P. citrinopilieatus, P. euosmus), and clade XV of P. australis. These species were representative species each clades. Five species, P. ulmarius(clade VI), P. griseus(clade IX), P. calyptratus(clade XI), P. lampas(clade XII), P. smithii(clade XIII)and P. serotinus (clade XVI) were used each one strain in analysis, so they were clustered other groups.
The nutritional requirements of mycelial growth for Pleurotus spp. were studied. As the carbon sources, soluble starch and dextrin, nitrogen sources, arginine and ammonium tartrate, and calcium sources, $CaCO_3$ enhanced mycelial growth. Optimum C/N ratio was 100 : 1. On the base of results from the experiment on nutritional requirements, the following receipe is suggested for growth of Pleurotus spp.; starch 15 g, arginine 3.484 g, ammonium tartrate 3.06 g, $CaCO_3$ 0.314 g, $KH_2PO_4$ 8.138 g, $K_2HPO_4$ 1.584 g, $MgSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ 1.5 g for P. sajor-caju and 2.5 g for P. ostreatus. $FeSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ 0.02 g, $ZnSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ 0.03 g, $MnSO_4{\cdot}7H_2O$ 0.02 g, optimum pH 6.0. This new synthetic medium is tentatively designated as Park's medium.
We present a list of the beetle species associated with the oyster mushroom, Pleurotus ostreatus Fr. in the birch forest of Onon-Balj National Park in Mongolia. A total of 21 species in seven families were found in this fungus, including fungivorous species: Litargus japonicus Reitter and Mycetophagus antennatus (Reitter) (Mycetophagidae), Pseudamblyopus similis (Lewis) (Erotylidae), and Lordithon sp. (Staphylinidae) etc. Both adult and larval forms are presented in the checklist along with the type of fungal association, of which approximately 52 percent are obligate mycetobionts. The main trends of the ecological and trophic specialization of the mycetophilic beetles are discussed.

Mushroom is very important to rural dwellers due to the various economic, health and nutritional benefits that can be derived from its consumption, sales and utilization. Hence, this experiment was carried out with a view to evaluating the influence of locally available substrate i.e., sawdust of different wood species on the cultivation of Pleurotus ostreatus (oyster mushroom). Pleurotus ostreatus was grown on sawdust (indigenous and exotic species) using two pretreatment methods, which included hot water treatment to remove (a water-soluble extract) and non-extracted sawdusts (substrate). The result of this study showed that there was a significant difference in the effect of different wood species selected. Parkia biglobosa produced a better yield (71.06 g), followed by Anogeissus leiocarpus (53.17 g) and Gmelina arborea (51.39 g) in a non-treated unextracted states. In the treated samples, Parkia biglobosa has the highest yield (50.61 g) followed by Anogeissus leiocarpus (49.28 g) and Gmelina arborea (45.00 g). Thus, Parkia biglobosa and Anogeissus leiocarpus produced a higher yield of mushroom either in a treated or non-treated state and they could be recommended for growing oyster mushroom (Pleurotus ostreatus).
