Exploring the Application of Playful Learning in SW Liberal Education to Enhance Learning Motivation : Focusing on non-CS students (대학 SW 교양수업의 놀이학습 적용방안 탐색 : 학습동기 제고를 위한 비전공자 수업을 중심으로)

  • This study applied effective playful learning to increase the learning motivation of non-CS major students to help them achieve learning and to successfully operate online SW liberal arts classes for 560 students. As a result of analyzing the students' reflection journals, most of the students accepted the 'white radish' of dialect names as fun playful learning in the process of learning local variables and global variables. And they were surprised and amazed at discovering unexpected contents in our SW class. It was found that they experienced delight in learning, learning-flow, confidence, and intrinsic motivation. In the final term exam at the end of the semester, it was confirmed that the correct rate of 92% for questions related to local and global variables was higher than the average rate of other questions' correctness of 67.1%.

  • Together with the development of ubiquitous computing technology and robot technology, intelligent type robots are being utilized in many areas and the range is expected to become wider and wider. Among many service robots, the educational robots are being diversely studied in the field with the concept of r-Learning. Presently, teaching assistant robots require a lot of HRI studies prior to their practical use in the very near future and are not sufficient yet. Especially, the reactions of students based of the styles of robots (e.g. serious robot, playful robot) are very important in producing robot contents but there has been no case study on them. Therefore, in this study, the appearance of the IROBI was changed to become a teaching assistant robot and was used to test and compare elementary school students' interest, achievement and concentration depending on the styles of robot (playful, serious). The results showed that the interest was high in the group that had studied with the playful robot. The achievement however, did not show significant relations with the style of robot and that the concentration was high in the group that had studied with the serious robot.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the learning program using sharing nature that can be utilized in Korean elementary science classes and explore the its effects of science academic achievement, inquiry ability, scientific attitude of students after applying it. Sharing Nature used a playful and inspirational teaching strategy and was named after Flow Learning based on universal principles of how people learn. To examine the effects of Sharing Nature Learning Program this learning materials were applied to elementary science curriculum, and an experimental group and a control group were selected from 4th graders at a elementary school located in Icheon City, Gyeong-gi province. The results of this study found significant difference in the student's enhancement of the science academic achievement, inquiry ability, scientific attitude. In conclusion, Sharing Nature Learning Program is useful to develop the elementary school student's science academic achievement, inquiry ability, scientific attitude and had better be widely applied to science education.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze and match future teaching-learning methods with learning-space types as customized not only by school grade or grade groups, but also by learning modality. As a result, the following six teaching-learning methods were identified as future teaching-learning methods: flipped learning, deeper learning, collaborative learning, learning through immersive virtual reality, playful learning, and learning through OER(Open Educational Resources). There were also six learning-space types that were identified: playing and discovering space, a making and placement space, a presentation and sharing space, a space for independent study, space as a stage, and space as content(See Tables 8 and 11). Learning-space types and future teaching-learning methods were matched with 22 different types of learning modalities based on the presented degree of utilization by school grade or grade groups(See Table 13).

  • The smart paradigm in the modern society is bringing about a rapid smart sensation and there are means of informational communications being developed with the smart technology in various fields. Accordingly, for an effective smart education, it is necessary to create the customized educational contents for the learners, the users of the education. In this study, the contents of smart education are categorized based on the user experiences. As a result of the analysis, the 3 types of UX are found to have a playful influence on the learning concentration and it is also deduced that such concentration of a learner positively affects his or her attitude towards learning. Moreover, by the age and gender groups, there were differences in the preferences for each of the UX type, so that, in result, gave the valid data for designing and applying the suitable UX type for creating contents of smart education for different main target groups.

  • Existing safety education delivered to construction workers has limitations in concentration and immersion, so delivery power and interest are low. In order to improve the unstable behavior of construction workers and prevent safety accidents through education, a paradigm shift to hands-on education is necessary. Experiential safety education aims to contribute to the prevention of safety accidents and induce safe behavior by construction workers to recognize risks faster, select safe working methods suitable for the working environment, and improve emergency response and proactive response. Experiential education facilities have a follow-up learning effect in case of danger. The experience facility, which consists of the same working environment as the actual construction site, is designed to experience falls, equipment contraction, fire, and electric shock. In order to achieve the results of safety education that has invested a lot of time, construction workers must have motivation to participate, and "experiential safety education" through playful, deviant, and aesthetic experiences reduces serious accidents.

  • This study investigates design strategies for improving the educational quality of multimedia contents for early childhood education. It emphasizes both traditional education theory and developmental aspects in its exploration of interactive and educational qualitative multimedia contents for early children. Accordingly, for an effective early childhood education, it is necessary to experience of the playful learning for the conception of ideas and the understanding of the social life. Because this study 1) possibility of multimedia contents for early childhood education, 2) computer application method for early childhood education, 3) examines used in the designing of multimedia contents for early childhood education according to traditional education theory. Multimedia early childhood education system is possible to organize information such as test, image, sound and video based on hyperlink system. I use Microsoft's Ms-office and Asymetrix's ToolBook software that are useful for hyperlink and parameter. Multimedia contents and other pages are used by Dynamic Data Exchange(DDE). Therefore multimedia contents for early childhood education is a useful tool for students of early childhood education department, parents, and children.

  • The purpose of this study was to present a method of literacy education that would generate interest and enhance the effectiveness of literacy education from elderly literacy learners. For that end, the researcher interviewed and did participation observation with a total of 11 middle and old aged literacy teachers, operators, lifelong education teachers, and literacy students in North Chungcheong Province. According to the research, elderly literacy learners have a tendency to forget easily what they have learned and to learn properly through dictation, and have high level of competitive spirit, to make studying the top priority in their daily lives. Many playful activities for knowing meaning of writing, learning connected to real life, and dictating are effective in improving their memory and cognition. In addition, using familiar materials in everyday life, conducting role plays with comedies and poems in textbooks, utilizing large-picture fairytales, team-based games and activities, learning songs and instruments to play easily, performances and presentations on the stage, and field experiences in educational and cultural facilities can increase their interest and effectiveness in literacy. Several programmes such as presentations and joint events for sharing results, materials and materials costs, education and sharing of literacy skills for teachers at the school, annual operation of literacy education need to be supported to succeed literacy education in elderly learners. In conclusion, the research shows the need to increase literacy teachers' education, to use assistant teachers, to activate accreditation of literacy curriculum.

Joy Expression and Its Cognitive and Social Contexts in Children's Play (놀이의 기쁨 - 정서표현과 그 맥락적 특성 -)

  • This study purported to empirically examine joy expression and its cognitive and social contexts in children's play. The following question was asked: 1) What kind(s) of emotional expression(s) can be considered as a defining feature of play? 2) What cognitive/social play contexts are associated with joy expression. 30 children aged 3, 4, and 5 years were observed in terms of the length of each emotional expression at play/nonplay, and at cognitive/social play categories. The findings of this study showed that regardless of children's age and gender only joy expression could be considered as a defining feature of play, and that R&T play and chase games, or associative and cooperative social play were strongly related to joy expression. The findings were discussed in reference with existing assertions and perspectives, emphasizing the importance of joy expression in defining children's play despite of the predominance of interest expression in play. The findings were also discussed in reference with metacommunication functions and social construction of joy, considering cognitive/social contexts of joy. Implications for play researchers and practitioners were described in terms of developing playful learning strategies for childhood. Limitations of this study, and suggestions for further research were also provided.

  • As the Internet has been a daily instrument of our lives, the numbers of Internet users are increasing rapidly. Especially, we have to pay special attention to about rapid increasing of juvenile users. In the 1990's, Kids are growing up literally surrounded by new technologies and mu1timedia experiences. For these kids, most of the techno1ologies that we adults find surprising or even incredible are a part of their everyday landscape, a fact of life. Currently, only few of research and discussion has gone into understanding this field. And most of these web sites, set importance on furnishing information only. So educational characters of web are not manifested fully as well as children soon get board with learning with Internet so that feel difficulties in searching and accepting information. At this point, we must try to develop educational sites Not only to show information but also to offer a rich and entertaining time for kids while providing playful teaming and increased technological fluency. Fer this purpose, Web site should be all about combining play with learning. Site navigation should be easy and the pages load quickly. The page download time is also being considerable, which could send kids withy mouse-fingers looking for entertainment elsewhere. Everything about the site must have a familiar feel, uses adequate colors to be satisfied with the juveniles. Multimedia can help the communications in the websites. To maximize the educational effect, technological research and continues invest are need, in addition to usability test.
