리처드 마이어 건축에 표현된 바로크적 특성 연구 (A Study on the Baroque Characteristics Expressed in Architecture by Richard Meier)

  • Baroque is fundamentally in contrast with renaissance style classicism, which attempted to fix a world view itself as the value of perpetuity. Furthermore, it is interpreted as a topic of incompletion or transformation that is not defined or is not exemplary and which may be enjoyed by people in the classical life, which requires a microscopic concept in contrast with dualism, the central axis of western civilization, namely, rational lucidity. Also, such characteristics are estimated to serve as a lubricant in life while going beyond the formal aesthetic level of art even from a contemporary perspective, and to play a productive role and to have potential. Consequently, this paper assumed that the concepts expressed by the 20th century US contemporary architect Richard Meier of a complex space, namely architectural formative vocabularies such as overlapping, interpenetration, collision, and collage style mixture created by a layered structure, in his architecture are in common with the double surface technique and juxtaposition of a flat structure of Baroque architecture. Then, the paper analyzed and considered the characteristics. The paper considered the following two issues: Such Baroque style formal principle is reinterpreted against a backdrop in which his architectural flow based on the domino theory of Le Corbusier became established as his own unique architectural feature, and it may be proposed as one big flow that enables us to seek again modernistic architecture that attempts to make an architectural space absolute as an atypical formal contour.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the interior characteristics of Philips Exeter Academy library by Louis I. Kahn. Kahn's main thoughts of 'what it wants to be ' and 'how it was done' play a important role in this research because these statements act as a clue to understand this library. 'What it wants to be' means the essence and existence of architecture and 'how it was done' shows the tectonic of architecture and construction process to enhance its presence. Most of his works inform that Kahn had consistently applied his thoughts into design process. The thoughts of the essence of library leads Kahn to configurate 3 layers of interior space. The emphasis of tectonic expression is also the characteristics of interior in that structure is the logical part of whole building system rather than concealing object for the exterior of buildings. In Exeter library, interior characteristics are summarized as 3 layers of interior configuration, the order in dynamics, the visualization of construction process, and the relationship between structure and space.

Gravity wave activities in the polar region using FORMOSAT-3 GPS RO observations

  • FORMOSAT-3 was launched in April of 2006. It consists of six low earth orbit (LEO) satellites that will be eventually deployed to an orbit at 800 km height. Its scientific goal is to utilize the radio occultation (RO) signals to measure the bending angles when the GPS signals transect the atmosphere. The bending angle is then used to infer atmospheric parameters, including refractivity, temperature, pressure, and relative humidity fields of global distributions through inversion schemes and auxiliary information. The expected number of RO events is around 2500 per day, of which 200 events or so fall into the polar region. Consequently, the FORMOSAT-3 observations are expected to play a key role to improve our knowledge in the weather forecasting and space physics research in the polar region. In this paper, we use temperature profiles retrieved from FORMOSAT-3 RO observations to study the climatology of gravity wave activity in the polar region. FORMOSAT-3 can provide about 200 RO observations a day in the polar region, much more than previous GPS RO missions, and, hence, more detailed climatology of gravity wave activity can be obtained.

Evolution of the Magnetosphere in Response to a Sudden Ring Current Injection

  • The dynamical evolution of the Earth's magnetosphere loaded with a transiently enhanced ring current is studied by numerical magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) simulation. Two cases with different values of the primitive ring current are considered. In one case, the initial ring current is strong enough to create a magnetic island in the magnetosphere. The magnetic island readily reconnects with the earth-connected ambient field and is destroyed as the system approaches a steady equilibrium. In the other case, the initial ring current is not so strong, and the initial magnetic field configuration bears no magnetic island, but a wake of bent field lines, which is smoothed out through the relaxing evolution of the magnetosphere. The relaxation time of the magnetosphere is found to be about five to six minutes, over which the ring current is reduced to about a quarter of its initial value. Before reaching a steady state, the magnetosphere is found to undergo an overshooting expansion and a subsequent contraction. Fast and slow magnetosonic waves are identified to play an important role in the relaxation toward equilibrium.

Factors Influencing Roadkill Hotspot in the Republic of Korea

  • Road structures play an important role in collisions involving vehicles and wildlife. Our study aimed to determine the effect of various types of road structures on the risk associated with roadkill. We surveyed 50 previously identified roadkill hotspots, ranked from one to five according to roadkill density. We collected nine types of road structure data on each hotspot road section. Structures with similar characteristics were grouped together, resulting in five categories, namely, median barrier, high edge barrier, low edge barrier, speed, and visibility. We examined the existence of each road structure category at each hotspot rank. The cumulative link model showed that the absence of bottom blocked median barrier increased the roadkill hotspot rank. Our study concluded that a visual obstacle in the middle of roads by the median barrier decreases wildlife road crossing attempts and roadkill risk. We suggest that future roadkill mitigation plans should be established considering these characteristics.

Seismic evaluation of different types of electrical cabinets in nuclear power plants considering coupling effects: Experimental and numerical study

  • The objective of this research is to assess the seismic performance of different types of electrical cabinets in nuclear power plants. The cabinets under investigation are: (a) Case 1: a short single cabinet; (b) Case 2: a tall single cabinet; (c) Case 3: separated cabinets; and (d) Case 4: a combined cabinet with coupling effects. To accurately capture the real behavior of the cabinet, three-dimensional finite element models are developed using ANSYS with connection non-linearity. Frequency domain decomposition (FDD) is used to determine the dynamic properties of the cabinets from shaking table testing data, and these results are utilized to validate the numerical model. The close match between the experimental and numerical results obtained from the modal analysis demonstrates the accuracy of the numerical model. Subsequently, transient structural analysis is performed on the validated models to explore seismic performance. The results show that the acceleration response of the combined cabinet is lower than the single cabinet and the separated cabinet. This observation suggests that top anchors used to combine two different types of cabinets play a crucial role in assessing the efficiency and seismic resistance of electrical cabinets in a nuclear power plant.

Dynamic Formation and Associated Heating of a Magnetic Loop on the Sun. II. A Characteristic of an Emerging Magnetic Loop with the Effective Footpoint Heating Source

  • We investigated an emerging magnetic loop dynamically formed on the Sun, which has the effective footpoint heating source that may play a key role in heating a solar atmosphere with free magnetic energy in it. It is suggested that the heating source could be related to local compression of a plasma in the emerging loop by means of Lorentz force, which converts the magnetic energy to the internal energy of the plasma that is used to reaccelerate a decelerated downflow along the loop, eventually generating the source when the kinetic energy of the downflow is thermalized. By analyzing very high-cadense data obtained from a magnetohydrodynamic simulation, we demonstrate how the local compression is activated to trigger the generation of the heating source. This reveals a characteristic of the emerging loop that experiences a dynamic loop-loop interaction, which causes the local compression and makes the plasma gain the internal energy converted from the magnetic energy in the atmosphere. What determines the characteristic that could distinguish an illuminated emerging loop from a nonilluminated one is discussed.

제3세대 뮤지엄 건축의 유형에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Museum's Typology on the Third Generation of Museum Architecture)

  • Although the history of the contemporary museum architecture is relatively short, the concept of its existence has changed owing to its openness to the spectators at large. Within the short period of time, it has developed into a multi functional architecture with eduinfortainment function for the general publics in concert of the changes of its social activities in addition to its innate function as a museum to meet the intellectual desires of the spectators. Therefore, this study looks Into how to suffice the ever changing Intellectual desires of the spectators and the various spatial correspondences in accordance with the social and cultural roles of the museum with purpose to present the materials of the typological characteristics of the third generation museum architecture, which shows diversifying propensity, by means of an analytical study on the characteristics of the third generation museum architecture with confidence in mind that such materials are needed in the early planning stage. The chapter 2 divides the museum architecture into three generations for a comparative analytical study and presents the three classification standards thru the preceding studies related to the museum typological classifications. In accordance with the standards, 60 selective art museums have been classified by their typological patterns. The chapter 3 shows the result of the typological space classification of the 60 art museums through an analyzation on the typological characteristics and the interrelations of them. Such study is considered to furnish important measures for the realization of the substance of the museum architecture. At the same time, it Is also judged to play an instrumental role for the theoretical system of the communication function and classification required in the early designing stage as well as to play an educational role important as the designing guide line.

공간의존 파론도 게임의 재분배 모형 (A redistribution model for spatially dependent Parrondo games)

  • N명의 게임자들이 둥글게 둘러앉아 공간의존 파론도 게임 B를 실시한다. 게임 B는 여러 명의 게임자들 중에서 한 명을 임의로 선택하고, 선택된 게임자는 양 옆에 있는 두 명의 게임자들의 상태에 따라 앞면이 나올 확률이 달라지는 동전을 던져서 앞면이 나오면 1원을 얻고 뒷면이 나오면 1원을 잃는다. 게임 A'은 임의로 선택된 게임자가 나머지 N - 1명의 게임자들 중에서 한 명을 임의로 선택하여 본인의 상금 1원을 전달하는 게임으로 전체 게임자들의 총 상금에는 변함이 없으므로 전체 게임자들에게는 항상 공정한 게임이다. 만약 게임 B가 지는 게임인 반면에 두 게임 A'와 B를 결합한 혼합게임 C는 이기는 게임이 되면 파론도 효과가 존재하고, 게임 B가 이기는 게임이고 혼합게임 C는 지는 게임이면 역파론도 효과가 존재한다고 한다. 먼저 마코프 체인의 상태공간의 축소를 위한 lumpability 조건이 게임 A', B 그리고 혼합게임 C에 대해 만족함을 보이고, 축소된 상태공간에서 게임 B와 C의 기대상금을 계산한다. 이를 이용하여 파론도 효과와 역파론도 효과의 존재를 확인하고, 특별히 $3{\leq}N{\leq}6$의 경우에는 파론도 효과와 역파론도 효과가 존재하는 확률 모수의 영역을 도식화 한다.

環境條件이 仔豚의 成長과 行動에 미치는 影響 (Effects of Environmental Factors on Growth Performances and Behavioural Patterns of Weanling Pigs)

  • 두당 돈방면적과 돈군의 크기 등 돼지의 사육환경 조건이 자돈의 성장과 행동에 미치는 영향을 구명하기 위하여 이유후부터 체중 30kg까지의 자돈을 총 18돈방에 300두를 공시하여 시험하였다. 사료급여는 습식급여로 하였으며 두당 돈방 면적은 0.18$m^2$, 0.23$m^2$ 및 0.30$m^2$로 하였고 돈군의 크기는 돈방당 15두, 20두 및 25두로 하였다. 일당증체량, 일당사료섭취량 및 사료요구율을 조사하였으며 자돈의 행동을 휴식, 섭취, 공격, 사회성 및 유희행동으로 나누어 조사분석하였으며 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 두당 돈방면적이 0.18$m^2$의 경우 사료섭취량은 많았으나(p<0.01) 증체량은 차이가 없고, 사료효율은 낮으므로(p<0.05) 두당 0.23$m^2$의 경우가 최적인 것으로 나타났다. 2. 돈군의 크기에 따른 자돈의 증체나 사료효율에는 차이가 없었으며 사료섭취량은 15두군이 가장 많았다(p<0.01). 3. 자돈의 두당 돈방면적은 행동에 크게 영향을 미치며 두당 돈방면적이 좁을수록 공격행동이 증가되었고, 휴식, 사회성 및 유희행동은 감소되었다(p<0.01). 4. 돈군의 크기는 자돈의 행동에 큰 영향을 미치지 않았으나, 유희행동은 돈군이 커질수록 감소되었다(p<0.01). 5. 자돈의 성장과 행동면에서 두당 0.23$m^2$의 돈방면적을 부여하고 20~25두 크기로 돈군을 유지하는 것이 최적인 것으로 나타났다.
