  • A real train load fluctuates along the track because of complicated movements(Bouncing, Rolling, Pitching and Yawing) and rail conditions. This research has for its object in development of a numerical train load model including fluctuation characteristics of lateral forces. It is based on Klingel movement theory of a wheelset on straight track. it presents a propriety of application by comparison between a 3D-Numerical analysis result using this train load model and a measured data. And this paper presents further study subject to improve a method about the train load modeling.

  • This paper presents a numerical analysis of the emission process of volatile organic compound(VOC) from building material and its diffusion in a room. A polypropylene styrene-butadiene rubber(SBR) floor plate is chosen as the emission source of VOC. This study investigates spatial concentration distributions and time history of room-averaged VOC concentration for both with and without flushing. The results of this study show that for calculation based on ten-days period the room averaged VOC concentrations with and without flushing are quite different. the results thus suggest the need of flushing for new buildings.

  • Based on the Reissner mixed variational theorem (RMVT), finite rectangular layer methods (FRLMs) are developed for the three-dimensional (3D) linear buckling analysis of simply-supported, fiber-reinforced composite material (FRCM) and functionally graded material (FGM) sandwich plates subjected to bi-axial compressive loads. In this work, the material properties of the FGM layers are assumed to obey the power-law distributions of the volume fractions of the constituents through the thickness, and the plate is divided into a number of finite rectangular layers, in which the trigonometric functions and Lagrange polynomials are used to interpolate the in- and out-of-plane variations of the field variables of each individual layer, respectively, and an h-refinement process is adopted to yield the convergent solutions. The accuracy and convergence of the RMVT-based FRLMs with various orders used for expansions of each field variables through the thickness are assessed by comparing their solutions with the exact 3D and accurate two-dimensional ones available in the literature.

  • The position control accuracy of the robot arm is decreased significantly when a long arm robot is operated at high speed. In this case, the robot arm must be modeled as a flexible structure, not a rigid one, and its control system will be necessarily designed with its elastic modes taken into account. In this paper, the vibration control of a one-link flexible robot arm is presented. The robot system consists of a flexible arm manufactured with thin aluminium plate, AC servomotor with a harmonic drive for speed reduction, optical encoder and accelerometer. The system is modeled with limited number of elastic modes, and its parameters are determined from the results of the experiments. The implemented control schemes are LQ control and sliding mode control. The experiments and digital simulations are carried out to test the validity of the system modeling, controller design, and active control implementation.

  • The stabbing guide is often used to guide an add-on pile into an existing pile in offshore jacket installation. It provides a pile alignment for a welding tie-in in static condition as well. Even stabbing guide is an essential component in pile installation, it is not considered as a permanent offshore structure. In this regard, there is not a define design guideline proposed. In API RP 2A WSD, it briefly define the design considerations of stabbing guide. The failure of stabbing guide can cause a greate economical loss and a serious impact to the project schedule. Stabbing guide design should consider many factors considering actual work conditions for both static and dynamic situations. In the paper, a design method is proposed by appling the plate theory and it is confirmed numerically with FEM modeling. The geometry of stabbing guide is assumed as a cylinder shape with various wall thickness and effective length. The various thickness, effective length and pile size are compared for stable stabbing guide design.

  • In the present study, a mathematical model has been formulated for the performance of polymer electrolyte fuel cells. Modify the concentration polarization equation using concentration coefficient that represents the characteristics of bipolar plate reactant distribution. The model predictions have been compared with experimental results and good agreement has been demonstrated for the cell polarization curves. The effects of operating parameters on the performance of fuel cells have been studied. Increases of operation pressure reduce the effect of temperature on the performance.

  • Heat transfer in linear motor driven stages for surface mounting device applications was investigated. A simple one-dimensional thermal resistance model (TRM) was introduced. In order to reduce three-dimensional nature to one-dimensional, a few assumptions and simplifications were employed suitably. A good agreement with a finite element heat transfer analysis in temperature profile was obtained. For validation, the analysis was compared with the measurement with respect to motor driving power. Overall discrepancy was less than 7$^{\circ}C$. The influence of two high thermal resistance parts, insulation sheet and thermal contact between the coil assembly and the mounting plate, was examined through the analysis. Additionally, the thermal resistance analysis was applied to another stage including an internal cooling-air passage, and was found available for this system as well. After validation, the cooling effect was surveyed in terms of motor power, and cooling-air and -water flow rate.

  • A modeling method for the vibration analysis of rotating composite cantilever plates is presented in this paper. The coupling effects between inplane motions and the bending motion are considered and explicit mass and stiffness matrices are derived for the modal analysis. Numerical results are obtained and some of them are compared to those of a commercial program to confirm the accuracy of the present method. Numerical results show that the coupling effects become important only when laminates are stacked up unsymmetrically. Incidentally, natural frequencies loci veering, loci crossing, and associated mode shape variations are observed.

  • Despite the high cost of memory and CPU time required to resolve the boundary layer, a viscous unstructured grid solver has many advantages over a structured grid solver such as the convenience in automated grid generation and vortex capturing by solution adaption. In present study, an unstructured Cartesian grid solver is developed on the basis of the existing Euler solver, NASCART-GT. Instead of cut-cell approach, immersed boundary approach is applied with ghost cell boundary condition, which can be easily applied to a moving grid solver. The standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model by Launder and Spalding is employed for the turbulence modeling, and a new wall function approach is devised for the unstructured Cartesian grid solver. Developed approach is validated and the efficiency of the developed boundary condition is tested in 2-D flow field around a flat plate, NACA0012 airfoil, and axisymmetric hemispheroid.
