  • This paper is experimental study to define the structural behaviors of reinforced flat plate under combined gravity and lateral loads. Specific objectives of this study reported herein are : (1) To study the behavior of a typical slab-column subassemblage under lateral loading. (2) To study the effects of vertical loads on slab-column lateral load behavior. (3) To investigate the post-failure behavior of slab-column connetios. To achieve these objectives, this study includes four tests of slab-column subassemblages that were made for 1/2 scale. Finally, Test results of this study show that the level of gravity load on the flat plate is one of the most important factors determining the lateral behavior of flat plate connections.

  • This research is aimed to evaluate the effects of repair conditions, axial load intensities and the enlargement of cross sections after strengthening with steel plate and on the structural behavior of the reinforced concrete columns subjected to axial and lateral loadings. 6 columns were tested under uniform axial compression and concentrated load at the midspan until failiure occurs. As test results, It has been found that the amount of grout bar and the condition of strengthening significantly affect the behavior or reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 4 bar (C-G4S2 serise) and enlarged reinforced concrete column with steel plate and grout 8 bar (C-G8S2 serise) are increased to 1000% and 1200% in comparison of those of unstrengthened reinforced concrete columns, respectively

  • Anchors are often used in construction of foundations such as transmission towers to resist uplifting forces. When plate anchors are embedded in soft clay, they may undergo a deformation under the pressure of sustained load. In soft saturated clays, the suction force can be a large par of the ultimate uplift capacity. This study is to present recent laboratory model test results conducted to evaluate the nature of variation of the suction force for plate anchors with shear strength and embedment ratio. The ratio of F$_{s}$Q$_{n}$ versus H/D in bentonite decreases with the increase of the embedment ratio.o.o.

  • There can be some variation in the load carrying capacity of high-tension bolt friction joints when oversize bolt holes are made on the base plate and the cover plate. This study performed a static tensile test in order to examine the variation of slip load and slip coefficient according to standard bolt hole and oversize bolt hole in high-tension bolt friction joints. According to the results of the static tensile test, the slip coefficient changed to some degree according to oversize bolt holes on the base plate and the cover plate, but it was somewhat unreasonable to find a pattern in the change. Sliding strength showed a difference of up to 26% between the use of standard bolt holes and the use of oversize bolt holes. Because this exceeds the design sliding strength, however, its effect on the serviceability of joints under service load is insignificant. Thus, if the regulation on oversize bolt holes, which may be inevitable in making steel members, is applied flexibly, we may improve efficiency and economy in the design and construction of structures.

  • Main topics in this study is a new structural detail for connection between H-Steel or SRC column and flat plate slab. We carried out to evaluate the punching shear performance of H-steel or SRC column + RC slab system for vertical load and lateral load. From the test results structural characteristics - yield moment, yield rotation, maximum moment, deformation capabilities ect. - are obtained and evaluated. In this paper as a shear reinforcement for supporting region of plate closed stirrup type and shear band are used, and their test results are compared.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the structural behavior of reinforced concrete columns rehabilitated with epoxy-bonded steel plates subjected to axial load. Eleven specimens were made to evaluate structural capacity of reinforced concrete columns rehabilitated with steel plates. This study considers the change of the internal force and the deformation of reinforced concrete column with reinforcing steel plates, and analyzes the effect of the improvement of strength and ductility. Based on the test results, this study brings the following conclusions. In case of the effect of reinforcement by the ratio of the same volume, the internal force for the test model, which the width of the reinforcing steel plate is small, is effectively higher. The smaller the width and the thickness of reinforcing steel plate, the more effective the effect of reinforcement is. For applying the theorical equation by Uzumeri, the maximum load and the coefficient of effective crossing reinforcement by the width and the thickness of steel plate reflected the properties of reinforcing steel plate.

  • The caps foundation method can reduce the load of a building by using the arching effect, but verification of the method is still insufficient. In this paper, a model test was performed to quantitatively prove the load reduction effect by this method. The test was carried out using six conditions according to the size of caps foundation block and the area of the loading plate. The test results show that the earth pressure was the highest at the position closest to the loading point regardless of the size of caps foundation block and the area of the loading plate. At the highest earth pressure position, when the loading plate area was 30 cm × 30 cm, the earth pressure of a small block was reduced by 35.4% on average, and that of a big block was reduced by 39.7% compared to the pressure with no block. When the loading plate area was 60 cm × 60 cm, the earth pressure of the small block was reduced by 33.9% on average, and the earth pressure of the big block was reduced by 42.7%. Therefore, if the caps foundation method is applied, the load will be reduced by more than 33% for a small block and 39% for a big block.

  • Steel storage racks are slender structures whose overall behavior and the capacity depend largely on the flexural behavior of the base-plate to upright connections and on the behavior of beam-to-column connections. The base-plate upright connection assembly details, anchor bolt position in particular, associated with the high-rise steel storage racks differ from those of normal height steel storage racks. Since flexural behavior of high-rise rack base connection is hitherto unavailable, this investigation experimentally establishes the flexural behavior of base-plate upright connections of high-rise steel storage racks. This investigation used an enhanced test setup and considered nine groups of three identical tests to investigate the influence of factors such as axial load, base plate thickness, anchor bolt size, bracket length, and upright thickness. The test observations show that the base-plate assembly may significantly influence the overall behavior of such connections. A rigid plate analytical model and an elastic plate analytical model for the overall rotations stiffness of base-plate upright connections with concentric anchor bolts were constructed, and were found to give better predictions of the initial stiffness of such connections. Analytical model based parametric studies highlight and quantify the interplay of components and provide a means for efficient maximization of overall rotational stiffness of concentrically anchor bolted high-rise rack base-plate upright connections.

  • In recent years, strengthening by steel plate, carbon fiber sheets, and carbon fiber laminate is spotlighted in order to repair and rehabilitation of R/C structures. In this study, 3 methods of rehabilitation technique were analyzed from the test results. Test parameters were the width of cracks, the method of repair and rehabilitation, the magnitude of pre-load. Deflections, failure loads, strains of reinforcing bar, strains of carbon fiber sheet, carbon fiber laminate and steel plate were measured during the tests. The primary purpose of this research was to analyze the failure mode and structural behavior of strengthened RC beams with/without superimposed pre-load. Test results should that no significant difference was observed between with pre-loaded specimens and no-loaded specimens during rehabilitation.

  • In the design of wood structures, the consideration of the dynamic load effect has been increased. Generally, damping ratio is presented as the method of considering dynamic load effect. So, the relationship between joint type and damping ratio was investigated. It has been known that the joint extremely damp the dynamic load in wood structures. Static test was performed to determine the effects of nail size and friction area on joint strength and stiffness. Joint strength and stiffness were increased with nail size. However, the static properties of joint was not affected by friction area. Cyclic test was performed to determine the effects of nail size, friction area and load magnitude on damping ratio, Damping ratio was affected by all factors. Increasing the width of the bottom plate was suggested as the most adequate method to increase the damping ratio without the reduction of the static properties of the structures.
