유동 방향으로 기울어진 사각 핀-휜 열교환기의 유동 및 열전달 특성에 대한 수치적 연구 (A NUMERICAL STUDY ON THE FLOW AND HEAT TRANSFER CHARACTERISTICS OF A HEAT EXCHANGER HAVING RECTANGULAR PIN-FINS SLANTED IN THE FLOW DIRECTION)

  • The flow and heat transfer characteristics of a heat exchanger having rectangular pin-fin in the flow direction have been investigated numerically. On the bottom plate, the convective boundary conditions for the hot side was given, and the fins were arranged in a channel-type geometric model using the periodic boundary condition in the span-wise direction. Three-dimensional numerical calculations for the flow and conjugate heat transfer problem were conducted using SIMPLE algorithm and $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. For the slanted pin-fin models, it was found that the downward cooling flow is generated due to the downward pressure gradient component, which can enhance the heat transfer performance near the bottom surface and the fin stem region. Four different inclined angles were considered in the Reynolds number range of 13,500-55,000. The aero-thermal performance of the slanted pin-fin heat exchangers, such as the volume and area goodness factors, were summarized and compared with the baseline plate-fin type heat exchanger quantitatively.

  • Impingement/effusion cooling technique is used for combustor liner or turbine parts cooling in gas turbine engine. In the impingement/effusion cooling system, the crossflow generated in the cooling channel induces an adverse effect on the cooling performance, which consequently affects the durability of the cooling system. In the present study, to reduce the adverse effect of the crossflow and improve the cooling performance, circular pin fins are installed in impingement/effusion cooling system and the heat transfer characteristics are investigated. The pin fins are installed between two perforated plates and the crossflow passes between these two plates. A blowing ratio is changed from 0.5 to 1.5 for the fixed jet Reynolds number of 10,000 and five circular pin fin arrangements are considered in this study. The local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the effusion plate are measured using a naphthalene sublimation method. The results show that local distributions of heat/mass transfer coefficient are changed due to the installation of pin fins. Due to the generation of vortex and wake by the pin fin, locally low heat/mass transfer regions are reduced. Moreover, the pin fin prevents the wall jet from being swept away, resulting in the increase of heat/mass transfer. When the pin fin is installed in front of the impinging let, the blockage effect on the crossflow enhances the heat/mass transfer. However, the pin fin installed just behind the impinging jet blocks up the wall jet, decreasing the heat/mass transfer. As the blowing ratio increases, the pin fins lead to the higher Sh value compared to the case without pin fins, inducing $16\%{\~}22\%$ enhancement of overall Sh value at high blowing ratio of M=1.5.

  • In the utilization of solar energy most often a flat solar collector is used for solar heating, system. Since solar energy is absorbed through this solar collector, it is considered to be a most important part in the whole solar heating system. The purpose of the present investigation is to evaluate the influence of varying design parameters for thermal performances of flat-plate solar collector. By analysing these parameters, optimum design of solar collector would become possible. Specification of the existing solar collector are utilized in calculation as a starting point. Analysis is carried out numerically for "Unit Solar Collector" which is composed of fin and tube. Among design parameters. such parameters as mass flow rate per unit area, tube spacing and fin thickness are selected as variables in the computer simulation model. Results are presented for thermal performances of flat-plate solar collector for each important design parameters, so that predictions become possible through numerical analysis without performing experiments whenever it is required. required.

  • In this study the optimization of plate-fin type heat sink for the thermal stability is performed numerically. The optimum design variables are obtained when the temperature rise and the pressure drop are minimized simultaneously. The flow and thermal fields are predicted using the finite volume method and the optimization is carried out by using the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) method which is widely used in the constrained nonlinear optimization problem. The results show that when the temperature rise is less than 34.6 K, the optimal design variables are as follows; $B_{1}$ = 2.468 mm, $B_{2}$ = 1.365 mm, and t = 10.962 mm. The Pareto optimal solutions are also presented for the pressure drop and the temperature rise.

  • 전자산업은 장치의 소형경량화를 추구하면서 단위체적당 발생하는 열량이 중가하는데 이때 발생하 는 열의 냉각문제는 전자산업의 발전에 있어서 해결해야될 중요한 품제로 풍장하고 있다. 대류냉각 방 식 은 구조가 간단하고 가격이 져렴 하면서도 사용이 편리하기 때문에 전자기기의 냉각방식으로 많이 사용되고 있다. 이때 효율적인 냉각을 위하여 전열면적의 확장 및 대류유동이 찰 이루어지는 기하학적 형상이 제안되고 있다. 전자기기에서 발생되는 열을 효과적으로 냉각시키기 위한 냉각핀에서의 대류열 전달 특성을 고찰하기 위하여 공기중의 청상충류 상태에서 둥온으로 가열된 경사명판에 수칙으로 부착 된 명판핀에 대하여 무차원 핀길이 HIS, 경사각, Grashof수.변 화에 따른 자연대류 열전달 특성올 비 교 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다. 평균 열전달계수는 무차원 핀길이 HIS가감소하거나Grashof수가충 가하면 대류유동이 촉진되기 때문에 중가되는 경향을 나타내었고, 경사각이 중가되면 대류유동에 장애 를 받기 때문에 감소하는 경향을 나타내었다.

  • Intercoolers for multi-stage turbocharger of the hydrogen reciprocating engine for HALE UAV are installed for reducing the charged air inlet temperature of the engine. The intercooler is air to air, cross flow, plate-fin type and the fin configuration is offset-strip fin which is referenced from the heat exchanger of the ERAST. Most of HALE UAV's cruising altitude is 60,000 ft and the density of air for this altitude is very low compared to sea level. Therefore the required heat transfer area for the HALE UAV is about three-times bigger than the sea level. Consequently, it is essential to design to meet the required efficiency of intercooler in the range of not excessively growing the weight of the heat exchanger. The quasi-one dimensional heat transfer design/analysis for satisfying the requirement of the engine are written in this paper. The numerical analyses for estimating the coolant flow rate of the engine bay and pressure loss in the header and core are also summarized.

휜-관 열교환기의 착상 성능 해석 (Analysis of Frosting Performance of a Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger)

  • This paper proposes a mathematical model for predicting the frosting performance on a fin-tube heat exchanger. The model consists of empirical correlations of average heat transfer coefficients for the plate and tube surfaces and a diffusion equation inside the frost layer. The numerical results are compared with experimental data for the frost thickness, the frosting rate and the heat transfer rate to validate the proposed model. The results are in good agreement with the experimental data, and show that this model can be applied to predict frosting performance of common fin-tube heat exchanger.

  • In this study, the heat transfer and flow field of condenser used on Kim-chi refrigerator is analysed with numerical method. Main objective is to present the base data for designing new condenser model with improvement of heat transfer performance. For CFD analysis, a commercial code, STAR-CCM+ was used. The water was used for the inner working fluid and the air was used for the outer fluid. The condenser type used in this study is a flat plate fin-and-tube heat exchanger. As factors for performance analysis, the effect of condenser geometry and air velocity was investigated. As a result, it has been observed that there is a suitable fin pitch with which heat transfer performance of condenser is maximized.

  • Fins are widely used for roll stabilization of passenger ferries and high performance naval ships, among others. In the present study, numerical simulations are performed to investigate the influence of end-plates upon the cavitation characteristics of a stabilizer fin for various angles of attack and speeds and the results are verified through a series of model experiments. It is found that a considerable retardation in tip vortex cavitation can be achieved with attachment of end-plates at the tip of the stabilizer fin. The results can be utilized for the design of stabilizer fins as well as the development of high performance control devices for ships.
