Tensile deformation behavior with different strain rate was investigated. $Zr_{56.2}Ti_{13.8}Nb_{5.0}Cu_{6.9}Ni_{5.6}Be_{12.5}$(bulk metallic glass alloy possessed crystal phase which was called $\beta$-phase of dendrite shape, mean size of $20{\sim}30{\mu}m$ and occupied 25% of the total volume) was used in this study. Maximum tensile strength was obtained as 1.74GPa at strain rate $10^2s^{-1}$ and minimum strength was found to be 1.6GPa at $10^{-1}s^{-1}$. And then, maximum plastic deformation occurred at the strain rate of $5{\times}10^{-2}s^{-1}$ and represented 1.75%, though minimum plastic deformation showed 0%. In the specific range of strain rate, relatively higher plastic deformation and lower ultimate tensile strength were found with lots of shear bands. The fractographical observation after tensile test indicated that vein like pattern on the fracture surface was well developed especially in the above range of strain rate.
Dams are inevitably planned to be built on thick overburden with high permeability and deformability. The connection part between concrete cut-off wall in overburden and earth core in dam body is not only a key part of the anti-seepage system, but also a weak position. Large uneven settlement will be aroused at the concoction part. However, the interaction behavior and the scope of the connection part cannot be determined effectively. In this paper, numerical analysis of a high earth core dam built on thick overburden was carried out with large deformation FE method. The mechanical behavior of the connection part was detail studied. It can be drawn that there is little differences in dam integral deformation for different analysis method, but big differences were found at the connection part. The large deformation analysis method can reasonably describe the process that concrete wall penetrates into soil. The high plasticity clay has stronger ability to adapt to large uneven deformation which can reduce stress level, and stress state of concrete wall is also improved. The scope of high plasticity clay zone in the connection part can be determined according to stress level of soils and penetration depth of concrete wall.
In this paper, the possibility of plastic deformation of rifle and gun barrels is studied through the numerical methods. When a rifle or tank gun is fired, the expansive deformation of the barrel can occur by the explosive pressure and the thermal effect. Using the ABAQUS program, the stresses and displacements are computed for the elastic and elastic-plastic material property, and the possibility of plasticity deformation is investigated. In conclusion, rifle and tank gun barrel the plastic deformation occurred in some parts of the barrel
Finite element analysis model is suggested for analysis of milli-forming process, which forms milli-size products. Since the size of workpiece in a milli-forming process ranges from a few hundred micrometers to a few millimeters, microstructural changes such as the growth of micro-voids and the development of preferred orientation in a grain become crucial factors for the success of milli-forming. This analysis model incorporates anisotropy from deformation torture and deterioration of mechanical properties due to the growth of micro-voids. Applications of the proposed modeling to milli-forming are given and the results are carefully examined to understand the deformation characteristics such as texture development and damage evolution during extrusion/drawing of a milli-bar.
In this paper, cyclic plasticity model of SM490 TMC was formulated by basing on monotonic loading test and cyclic loading test. For exact description of cyclic performance and plastic deformation capacity of steel member using SM490 TMC, formulated cyclic plasticity model and finite deformation theory were applied to 3-dimensional elastic-plastic FE analysis. Cyclic plastic behavior of pipe-section steel column using SM490 TMC was clarified by carrying out numerical analysis. Also, in order to clarifying seismic performance of pipe-section steel column using SM490 TMC, analysis results were compared with analysis results of pipe-section steel column using SM490. A comparison of analysis results shows that SM490 TMC pipe-section steel column has a better cyclic performance for strength and energy dissipation than SM490 pipe-section steel column under cyclic loading
A novel indentation theory is proposed by examining the data from the incremental plasticity theory based finite element analyses. First the optimal data acquisition location is selected, where the strain gradient is the least and the effect of friction is negligible. This data acquisition point increases the strain range by a factor of five. Numerical regressions of obtained data exhibit that strain hardening exponent and yield strain are the two main parameters which govern the subindenter deformation characteristics. The new indentation theory successfully provides the stress-strain curve with an average error less than 3%.
Precipitates, present in most commercial alloys, can have a strong influence on strength and hardening behavior of a single crystal. The effect of thin precipitates on the anisotropy of initial slip resistance and hardening behavior of crystals is modeled in this article. For the convenience of the computational derivation and implementation, the material formulation is given in the unrelated intermediate configuration mapped by the plastic part of the deformation gradient. Material descriptions for the considered two phased aggregates consisting in lattice hardening as well as isotropic hardening and kinematic hardening are suggested. Numerical simulations of various loading cases are presented to discuss and assess the performance of the suggested model.
Magnesium alloy sheets have unique mechanical properties such as high in-plane anisotropy/asymmetry of yield stress and hardening response. The unusual mechanical behavior of magnesium alloys has been understood by the limited symmetry crystal structure of HCP metals or by deformation twinning. In the present study, the continuum plasticity models considering the unusual plastic behavior of magnesium alloy sheet were derived for a finite element analysis. A new hardening law based on two-surface model was developed to consider the general stress-strain response of metal sheets such as Bauschinger effect, transient behavior and the unusual asymmetry. Three deformation modes observed during the continuous tension/compression tests were mathematically formulated with simplified relations between the state of deformation and their histories. In terms of the anisotropy and asymmetry of the initial yield stress, the Drucker-Prager's pressure dependent yield surface was modified to include the anisotropy of magnesium alloys.

Many researches have been already done on the issues of high temperature deformation and the microstructural evolution. The information has been very useful for the plasticity industry, especially successful for the extrusion. However, the parts made with forging usually have a complex shape. It is difficult to control the distribution of the variables like strain, strain rate and temperature rise due to the working heat during a hot-forging process. Consequently, the microstructural variation could be occurred depending on the plastic deformation history that the forged part would get during a hot forging. In the present study, the microstructural characteristic of a hot-forged 6061 aluminum alloy has been discussed on the aspect of grain size evolution. A forging of 6061 aluminum alloy has been carried out for a complex shape with a dimensional variation. Also, finite element analysis has been done to understand how the deformation variables such as strain, strain rate give an influence on the microstructure of a hot forged aluminum product.
