In this paper, stress distribution were given in consideration of bending effects in hemi-spherical shell and a modified equation of buckling load was represented with implicating the effects of plastic deformations and shape parameters. Especially, the distributions of shell near it's vertex were analyzed numerically, according to several cases of loading. For the sake of more good estimation of plastic dissipating energy, we used the yield-line method from plate theory. The modified criterion of bucking, P super(*) sub(cr), that was suggested in this study, was applied to SUS 302 stain-less steel hemi-spherical shell which had it's Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus with 0.33 and 19700 kg/mm$^2$. From some experiments and comparisons with other results, 재 suggested the critical buckling-load-equation with P super(*) sub(cr)=2E super(*).(t super(2)/a super(2)).{3(1-ν super(*2)} and computed the buckling initiation load with this equation. Because these result from modified criterion have more coincidence than previous one, we prospect this equation can be magnified it's utilities to the other materials.

In this study, applicability of software used to analyze the lateral deformations and its shape of braced cuts, executed to excavate the ground for constructing the underground structures, was assessed by performing field measurements and numerical analyses and their behaviors were also compared with results of previous studies. Three typical sections, located at the construction site where the subway was on the process of construction at Suwon city in Gyeonggido, were chosen and the data of field measurement at those sections were collected. Numerical analyses with FEM technique of using the software PLAXIS and elasto-plastic approach of using the software MIDAS were performed. In general, the deformed shapes of braced cut, obtained from numerical approaches, were in relatively good agreements with results from field measurements. For sections of A-A and B-B, measured values were greater than analyzed ones whereas they were in relatively good agreements in the section C-C. As results of comparing the values from the measurements and the estimations, they were found to be close to each other so that numerical approaches were assessed to be appropriate to estimate the lateral deformation. The numerical technique with FEM was preferred to use because it estimated closer to the measurements than the elasto-plastic approach.

Thermo-mechanical behaviors of wire-bond plastic ball grid array (WB-PBGA) package assemblies are characterized by high-sensitivity moire interferometry. Using the real-time moire setup, fringe patterns are recorded and analyzed for several temperatures. Experiments are conducted for three types of WB-PBGA package that have full grid pattern and perimeter pattern with/without central connections. Bending deformations of the assemblies and average strains of the solder balls are investigated, with an emphasis on the effect of solder interconnection grid patterns, Thermal strain distributions and the location of the critical solder ball in package assemblies are quite different with the form of solder ball grid pattern. For the WB-PBGA-PC, The largest of effective strain occurred in the inner solder ball of perimeter closest to the chip solder balls. The critical solder ball is located at the edge of the chip for the WB-PBGA-FG, at the most outer solder ball of central connections for the WB-PBGA-P/C, and at the inner solder ball closest to the chip for the WB-PBGA-P.
Approaches for analyzing indentation hardness are still controversial, although the instrumented indentation technique has been generalized as one powerful method that can record surface deformation behaviors. Material pile-ups around the indenter/surface contact region make the conventional Oliver and Pharr's analysis on the instrumented indentation curve inaccurate. Thus, in order to prove the validity of the hardness analyses, five approaches were applied to the experimental data obtained from fused quartz and (100) monocrystalline tungsten specimens; an elastic recovery analysis on instrumented indentation curves, three indentation work analyses on the unit plastic volume, and a differentiation analysis on remnant indentation morphologies were tried. Five kinds of indentation hardness overlapped on one result plot showed the validity of each analysis. The modified indentation work approach based on a new definition of plastic volume showed consistent results with those from the Oliver-Pharr's and image differentiation methods. In the case of pile-up accompanying deformation, the Oliver-Pharr's and image differentiation methods showed the upper and lower limits of indentation hardness, respectively.
For shield TBM (Tunnel Boring Machine) tunnel lining, the segment joint is the most critical component for determining the mechanical response of the complete lining ring. To investigate the mechanical behavior of the segment joint in a water conveyance tunnel, which is different from the vehicle tunnel because of the external loads and the high internal water pressure during the tunnel's service life, full-scale joint tests were conducted. The main advantage of the joint tests over previous ones was the definiteness of the loads applied to the joints using a unique testing facility and the acquisition of the mechanical behavior of actual joints. Furthermore, based on the test results and the theoretical analysis, a mechanical model of segment joints has been proposed, which consists of all important influencing factors, including the elastic-plastic behavior of concrete, the pre-tightening force of the bolts and the deformations of all joint components, i.e., concrete blocks, bolts and cast iron panels. Finally, the proposed mechanical model of segment joints has been verified by the aforementioned full-scale joint tests.
The theoretical background and capabilities of the developed program, SAR-CWF, for stochastic analysis of 3D reinforced-concrete shear wall-frame structures subject to seismic excitations is presented. Incremental stiffness and strength properties of system members are modeled by extended Roufaiel-Meyer hysteretic relation for bending while shear deformations for walls by Origin-Oriented hysteretic model. For the critical height of shear-walls, division to sub-elements is performed. Different yield capacities with respect to positive and negative bending, finite extensions of plastic hinges and P-${\delta}$ effects are considered while strength deterioration is controlled by accumulated hysteretic energy. Simulated strong motions are obtained from a Gaussian white-noise filtered through Kanai-Tajimi filter. Dynamic equations of motion for the system are formed according to constitutive and compatibility relations and then inserted into equivalent It$\hat{o}$-Stratonovich stochastic differential equations. A system reduction scheme based on the series expansion of eigen-modes of the undamaged structure is implemented. Time histories of seismic response statistics are obtained by utilizing the computer programs developed for different types of structures.

Two-dimensional explicit finite element code was developed. The transient dynamics code can analyse large deformations of non-linear materials subjected to extremely high strain rates. The Lagrangian finite element program uses an explicit time integration operator to integrate the equations of motion, thus the stiffness matrix is not introduced. Cylinder upsetting and ring compression problems are simulated to check the effects of friction and inertia force. It is shown that (1) calculated results agree very well with experimental results, (2) constant shear friction method overestimates the decrease of inner ring radius and then underestimates after on in comparison with the Coulomb friction method, and (3) the effect of the increase in initial strain rate is similar to the effect of higher frictional coefficient.
Laser Transmission Joining (LTJ), which is a joining process of polymers by using different transmission rates of materials, was studied numerically. Unlike previous studies, energy loss by reflection at the surface was included. Besides, energy absorbed in the transparent substrate is also considered to increase the accuracy of the analytical results. Furthermore, thermal deformations of the substrates were also calculated. Temperature distribution of the substrates on the joining process could be effectively predicted by using the thermal analysis model developed, which could also analyze the rising phenomenon of the absorbing substrate by bulge effect. Calculated results show that temperature of the absorbing substrate is higher than that of transparent substrate when the laser is being radiated, and this temperature difference causes more thermal deformation in absorbing substrate, which results in the surface rise of the absorbing substrate. Comparison of calculated results with corresponding experimental results could confirm the validity of the numerical analysis model proposed.
This article deals with the spin loss analysis of friction drive CVTs, especially for the cases of S-CVT and SS-CVT. There are two main sources of power loss resulting from slippage in the friction drive CVT, spin and slip loss. Spin loss, which is also a main design issue in traction drives, results from the elastic contact deformation of rotating bodies having different rotational velocities. The structure and operating principles of the S-CVT and SS-CVT are first reviewed briefly. And to analyze the losses resulting from slippage, we reviewed previous analyses of the friction mechanism. A modified classical friction model is proposed, which describes the friction behavior including Stribeck (i.e., pre-sliding) effect. It is also performed an in-depth study for the velocity fields generated at the contact regions along with a Hertzian analysis of deflection. Hertzian results were employed to construct the geometric parameters and normal pressure distributions of the contact surface with respect to elastic and plastic deformations. With analytic formulations of the relative velocity field, deflection, and friction mechanism of the S-CVT and SS-CVT, quantitative analyses of spin loss for each case are carried out. As a result, explicit models of spin loss were developed.

In case of uneven surcharge like backfill or embankment after constructing caisson applied on the deep soft marine deposits, lateral deformation of soft soils would happen due to plastic deformation of soil particles by increase of excess pore water pressure. Lateral deformation of soil will result in the caisson displacement which affects soft soil-caisson structure safety. Soft soil was improved by soil compaction pile method, and then gravity caisson was installed. Soil deformations were monitored and analyzed with step by step backfill and embankment behind the caisson. Amount and speed of lateral deformation after the installation of caissons were closely related with the time of backfill and embankment. The relationship between maximum lateral displacement($\Delta_y$) in front of caisson and settlement($\Delta_s$) can be expressed as $\Delta_y=(0.0871)\Delta_s+122.95$. Soft soil depth did not affect the lateral displacement of caisson in this study, which can be explained the soft soil improvement under the caisson by S.C.P. method. Substantially the amount and speed of the lateral deformation of caisson were closely related with the uneven surcharging rate behind caisson.
