초소형위성 SNIPE(Scale Magnetospheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment) 시제인증모델의 발사환경시험 및 분석 (Launch Environment Test for Scale magNetospheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment (SNIPE) Engineering Qualification Model)

  • 본문은 과학관측임무 초소형위성인 SNIPE(Scale magNetospheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment)의 시제인증모델(EQM)에 대한 발사환경시험 수행 결과 및 이를 통해 얻을 수 있는 신뢰성 있는 초소형위성 개발 방향에 대해 논한다. SNIPE는 우주기상관측을 포함한 다양한 탑재체를 지닌 6U급 초소형위성으로 4기가 편대비행을 하며 임무를 수행한다. 다수의 비행모델 제작 전 시제인증모델을 통해 먼저 설계 및 제작의 유용성을 검증하고자 하였다. 시제인증모델의 발사환경시험은 2019년 1차 시험이 수행되었고, 여기서 발견된 일부 문제점을 교정하여 2021년에 2차 시험을 수행함으로써 모든 문제가 해결되었음을 확인할 수 있었다. 두 차례의 시험에서 특이할 점은 1차 시험의 발사관과 2차 시험의 발사관이 다르다는 점인데, 1차 시험용 발사관과 달리 2차 시험의 발사관은 내부의 초소형위성을 고정하는 기능이 있어서 내부 초소형위성이 실제 받는 구조적 하중이 1차 시험에 비해 훨씬 경감되었다는 점이다. 본 논문은 두 시험의 결과로 나타난 특징을 분석하고, 차후 여타 초소형위성의 구조 설계에 반영할 수 있는 지침들을 제시하였다.

회전형 저온 플라즈마 시스템을 이용한 분말식품의 균일한 살균 연구 (A Study of Homogeneous Sterilization of Micro-sized Food Powder by Rotatable Low-Temperature Plasma System)

  • In this study, a relatively effective process is used to sterilize Escherichia coli on the surface of micro-sized calcium citrate powder using nitrogen and argon as process gases in a low-temperature vacuum plasma treatment. The purpose of this study is to confirm and to introduce the effectiveness of homogeneous surface treatment for the sterilization of fine inorganic powder by the rotatable low-temperature RF plasma system designed by ourselves. The results of the test using 3M petrifilm showed that there were no remarkable spots in the case of the surface of plasma treated powder, whereas the untreated powder showed many blue spots, which indicating that the E. coli was alive. After 5 days, in the same samples, the blue spots were seen to be larger and darker than before, while the plasma-treated powder showed no changes. The results from FE-SEM analysis showed that the E. coli was damaged and/or destroyed by reactive species generated in the plasma space, resulting in the E. coli being sterilized. Furthermore, the sterilization effects according to the selected parameters ($N_2$ and Ar; flow rate 30 and 50 sccm) adapted in this study were mutually similar, regardless of such different process parameters, and this indicates that homogeneous treatment of powder surfaces could be more effective than conventional methods. Therefore, the plasma apparatus used in this study may be a practical method to use in a powerful sterilization process in powder-type food.

Coupling of Electromagnetic and Electrostatic Waves in Inhomogeneous Plasmas

  • It is well known that electromagnetic (EM) waves are mode converted to electrostatic (ES) waves in inhomogeneous plasmas. We examine this issue in a three-dimensional multi-fluid numerical model. First, we derive a set of coupled linear wave equations when a one-dimensional inhomogeneous density profile is assumed in a cold and collisionless plasma. The massive ions are considered as fixed because we are interested in high frequency waves in plasmas. It is shown that the EM mode satisfies the 0th order modified Bessel equation near the resonant region where the frequency matches the local electron plasma frequency. It is expected that the EM waves are coupled and damped to the ES waves owing to the logarithmic singular behavior at such resonances. Second, we numerically test the same case in a 3-D multi-fluid model. An impulsive input is assumed to excite EM waves in the inhomogeneous 3-D box model. The wave spectra of electric and magnetic fields are presented and compared with the analytical results. Our results suggest that the EM energy is irreversibly converted into the ES energy wherever the resonant condition is satisfied. Finally we discuss how the mode conversion appears in both electric and magnetic fields by analyzing time histories of each component. We also compare our results with MHD wave coupling. It is numerically confirmed in this study that the coupling of EM and ES waves is similar to that of compressional and transverse MHD waves.

Formations of Coronal Hole Associated with Halo CME

  • We have studied the formation of coronal holes (CHs) associated with halo CMEs. For this study, we used multi-wavelength data from Yohkoh Soft X-ray Telescope (SXT), GOES Soft X-ray Imager (SXI), SOHO EIT 195 ${\AA}$, SOHO MDI magnetogram, MLSO He I 10830 ${\AA}$, and BBSO H-alpha. The CHs are characterized by open magentic field regions with low emission, density, and temperature and their open fields drive high speed solar winds which cause geomagnetic storms. So far, the formation and the evolution of CHs are not well understood. The formation of the dark region associated with the eruption of a CME is well known as "coronal dimming" which may be caused by the mass depletion near the CME footpoint. It is different from a typical CH since it persists for only one or two days. In this study, we present three cases that show the formation of coronal holes which are associated with three halo CMEs: 1) 2000 Jul 14, 2) 2003 Oct 28, 3) 2005 May 13. In the first case, hot plasma was ejected during a weak eruption and then filled out the pre-existing CH. After the halo CME occurred, the hot plasma region becomes a CH again. In the second and the third cases, we found newly formed CHs just after their associated CMEs. All three coronal holes are associated with strong flares and persist over 3 days until they disappeared by the solar rotation. Examining the MDI magnetograms, we found that the magnetic polarity of each CH region has one polarity. Based on these results, we suggest that the coronal holes can be formed by the CMEs and they should be distinguished from the coronal dimming.

Gamma-Ray Burst Observation by SNIPE mission

  • For the space weather research, KASI (Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute) is developing the SNIPE (Small-scale magNetospheric and Ionospheric Plasma Experiment) mission, which consists of four 6U CubeSats of ~10 kg. Besides of space weather research, the SNIPE mission has another astrophysical objective, detecting Gamma-Ray Bursts(GRB). By cross-correlating the light curves of the detected GRBs, the fleet shall be able to determine the time difference of the arriving signal between the satellites and thus determine the position of bright short bursts with an accuracy ~100'. To demonstrate the technology of the GRB observation, CSI gamma-ray detectors combined with GPS and IRIDIUM communication modules are placed on each SNIPE CubeSat. The time of each spacecraft is synchronized and when the GRB is detected, the light curve will be transferred to the Mission Operation Center (MOC) by IRIDIUM communication module. By measuring time difference of each GRB signals, the technology for localization of GRB will be proved. If the results show some possibilities, we can challenge the new astrophysical mission for investigating the origin of GRB.

  • Global simulator for $CF_4$ discharge in transformer coupled plasma (TCP) source is developed and simulations arc performed under various conditions. The developed simulator is based on a set of space averaged fluid equations for electrons, positive ions, neutrals and radicals of $CF_4$ plasma. And the used absorbed power by electrons is calculated by a 2-dimensional heating model[1].

CORONAL TEMPERATURE AS AN AGE INDICATOR

  • The X-ray spectra of late type stars can generally be well fitted by a two temperature component model of the corona. We find that the temperatures of both components are strong functions of stellar age, although the temperature of the hotter plasma in the corona shows a larger scatter and is probably affected by the activity of stars, such as flares. We confirm the power-law decay of the temperature of the hot plasma, but the temperature of the cool plasma component decays linearly with log(age).

  • An experimental study on the water plasma characteristics of removal efficiency for organic contaminants in dye waste water has been investigated. In this study, dielectric barrier discharging electrodes with round shape have disposed cross each other in reactor, and pulse power was supplied to between each electrodes. Its output pulse voltage range is from 0[V] to 30[kV] and output frequency range is from 100[Hz] to 2[kHz]. Using proposed system, High frequency discharge is tested in the mixed Tone(air and water) and the space distribution of streamer corona plasma is observed. In spite of the increasement of voltage and frequency, the proposed system have a stable operation characteristics. It is verified by the experimental results.

약물의 간내 이행기전과 알부민의 역할 (Albumin-Mediated Hepatic Uptake of Drugs)

  • A central dogma of pharmacology is that only unbound drug is capable of translocation across biological membrane. Thus, hepatic uptake is assumed to be solely determined by the unbound concentration of the diffusible moiety at the surface of the liver cell. However, an increasing number of experimental observations with xenobiotics that are normally very extensively bound to plasma proteins (>99%) appear to be inconsistent with these assumptions. This suggested that in addition to progressive spontaneous dissociation within the liver sinusoids and space of Disse, direct interactions of the albumin-drug complex at the plasma membrane may facilitate dissociation of the complex. To explain this phenomena. called albumin-mediated uptake, 4 mechanisms have been suggested. The validity of such hypotheses needs to be examined by the further study. Because albumin-mediated uptake has also been observed to occur in other plasma proteins, protein-mediated uptake rather than albumin-mediated uptake seems to be acceptable.
