The purpose of this study was to investigate satisfaction of student, adult and forest interpreters about facilities and program of children's garden, which was constructed as edutainment space within Korea National Arboretum on May 2011. The results are as follows. First, an information about construction of children's garden should be provided actively, because 70.8% student and 68.6% adult of respondent did not know existence of children's garden. Second, it has been analysed that a fundamental conception of GREEN-I be reflected in construction children's garden, especially, reflecting conception of Enjoy and Edutainment was comparatively high. Third, It was found that ecological experiencing activities program of children's garden was positively to develop environmental literacy for student. Fourth, It was found that satisfaction of uncommon planting area was very low among planting area and satisfaction of forest interpreters was very low about place of ecological experience learning using five senses. Finally, for effective operation of children's garden, children's garden should be provided planting for environmental education connected with the school curriculum and ecological experiencing activities program to enjoy time with the family. Therefore, these results will be applied to improve children's garden and could be applied to construct other children's garden in botanical gardens.

The present study evaluated growth factors affecting oak community plantations through literature review and a field survey. Specifically, 41 related literature sources were analyzed and field surveys were conducted to collect growth data. Previous studies were analyzed to identify variables with high frequency of use. The frequency of use was in the order of tree size > environment > planting density > forest age. Analysis of factors impacting height and diameter growth revealed that the growth rate of species other than Quercus variabilis was negative in the field survey. This may be because of differences between the actual trees planted and specifications in the construction drawings, which may be attributed to the site conditions and decisions made by the project subject during construction. Furthermore, simple linear regression analysis was conducted with time, height at planting, density, and species code as the independent variables and growth rate as the dependent variable. A strong positive linear correlation was noted between height and diameter. This work builds a foundation for developing a forest restoration model and simulation program based on a regression model derived from the four variables tested.
One of the most pressing issues facing the dairy industry is drought. In areas where annual precipitation is low, irrigation for growing feed presents the greatest water-utilization challenge for dairy producers. Here, we investigated the effects of cultivar and harvest days after planting (DAP) on dry matter (DM) yield and nutritive value of teff (Eragrostis tef), a warm-season annual grass native to Ethiopia that is well adapted to drought conditions. Eighty pots were blocked by location in a greenhouse and randomly assigned to four teff cultivars (Tiffany, Moxie, Corvallis, and Dessie) and to five harvest times (40, 45, 50, 55, or 60 DAP). Cultivars had no effect on DM yield and nutritive value. As harvest time increased from 40 to 60 DAP, DM yield and ash-free neutral detergent fiber (aNDFom) concentrations increased, while crude protein (CP) concentrations and in vitro NDF digestibility decreased. To assess carryover effects of time of harvest on yield and nutritive value, two additional cuttings were taken from each pot. Increasing first-cutting harvest time decreased CP concentrations in the second cutting and reduced DM yields in the second and third cutting. Harvesting teff between 45 and 50 DAP best optimized forage yield and nutritive value in the first and subsequent cuttings.
This study was conducted to investigate the growth characteristics and yield of whole green rice grains during the ripening period. These were investigated using Hopumbyeo and Unkwangbyeo at two transplanting times and with two kinds of nitrogen fertilization. The transplanting times were May 30 and June 20, respectively, using 30-day seedling culture and transplanting conducted with 3 - 4 plants per hill in planting space of $15cm{\times}30cm$. During nitrogen fertilization, 9 kg and 18 kg was used, respectively. The harvest of the green whole rice grains was carried out on the 15th, 20th, 25th, 30th, and 40th day after the heading date. The clum length was greater with later planting and with application of more nitrogen. The rice yield was higher with nitrogen fertilization of 18 kg/10 a when transplanted on May 30 for Hupumbyeo, and for Unkwangbyeo, was higher at 9 kg/10 a nitrogen fertilization when transplanted on May 30. The protein content of Hopumbyeo was higher when the nitrogen fertilizer was 18 kg/10 a, and that of Unkwangbyeo was lower than that when transplanting on June 20. The greenness was not related to the nitrogen fertilization level when transplanted on May 20 but for later transplanting, the greenness was higher when the nitrogen application was increased, and the greenness was the greatest about 30 days after the heading date.

This experiment was carried out to develop an acclimatization system of tissue cultured seedling in Zantedeschia spp. There was not different in percentage of leaf emergence by the media compost of acclimatization but tuber was enlarged in sand(50%)+peatmoss(50%) treatment after 6 months growth. The optimum time for the acclimatizantion of Zantedeschia spp. was from the 20th of March to 20th of April. During this time, rate of acclimatization reached over 90 percentage. However on the 20th of august, acclimatization was low to 64-70.4 percentage. Size of tuber was enlarged in planting on the 20th of March. The weight of tuber was better in 10×10cm density of planting than others.

This study was conducted for the purpose of presenting basic data for calculating a more reasonable landscaping project cost in the future through the construction cost calculation ratio of scenic planting and facilities and their time series trend analysis targeting 'J' corporation, a representative Korean public institution that creates apartment complexes. This study targeted scenic planting and the facility construction costs of 37 apartment complexes in the capital area from 2004 to 2012, using statistical analysis methods such as technical analysis, correlation analysis, and regression analysis to analyze the characteristics of the time series change. The conclusion was drawn as follows. First, breaking down the cost of overall landscaping projects to scenic planting and facility construction, the ratio of the average cost of scenic planting to that of facility construction showed 56.1% to 43.9% from 2004 to 2012. Second, the costs of planting construction and facility construction both showed a fluctuation range of about ${\pm}3%$, implying relatively steady costs considering the inflation rate. Third, the landscape construction cost for each type of construction resulted in a fluctuation range from minimum ${\pm}3%$(exercise facility) to maximum ${\pm}5%$(packing facility), reflecting that among the landscaping projects, the facility construction costs tended to show relatively large fluctuations in accordance with the change of time series. Fourth, the comprehensive indication of the ratio of landscaping project costs by time series and landscaping construction type implies that the regional characteristics and positional condition of the apartment complexes were not reflected sufficiently. Fifth, the high level of correlation of landscaping construction types and landscaping construction elements imply that the entire construction costs were controlled through partial adjustment of cost components within the overall frame of construction cost. These results reveal the problems of standardized landscaping cost irrespective of user satisfaction or environmental traits such as the conditions of the apartment complexes.

This study was carried out to evaluate the yield of cuttings according to the planting and runner releasing times of mother plants in order to raise the cutting seedlings of raising seedling period 75 days or more needed for forcing culture of strawberries to be transplanted into the field around the 15th of September. Three domestic cultivars of 'Maehyang', 'Jukhyang', and 'Kuemsil' were tested. For experiment 1 to determine the yield of cuttings with the change of transplanting time, the mother plant were planted on February 28, March 20, and April 9 in 20 days intervals, and the cuttings were collected two to three times from June 4 to July 1. Experiment 2 was conducted to investigate the yield of cuttings depending on the runner releasing time, the runners were released in three intervals of 20 days, 40 days, and 60 days after planting the mother plant on March 5, and the cutting were collected once to three times from May 29 to June 26. From the comparisons of cutting yield according to the transplanting time of mother plants, February 28 treatment was more 9~25% and 114~165% for each cultivar than March 20 and April 9, respectively (Experiment 1). The yield of cuttings with releasing time 20 days after planting the mother plants had higher by 60~77% and 104~176% for each cultivar than 40 days and 60 days, respectively (Experiment 2). From these results, in case of propagating the seedlings from cuttings needed for field planting around September 15, early planting around in the latter part of February is the best for cuttings yield. In addition, releasing after the removal of the runners produced from mother plants by 20 days after planting gives an advantage over higher yield of cuttings. Consequently, this study suggest to apply an efficient raising seedling system for labor saving and quality improvement in raising seedlings of three strawberry cultivars in Korea.

Apex removal is a common practice in artichoke cultivation to harvest heads of lateral shoots. This experiment was carried out to investigate the effect of apex removal by different planting times on the growth and yield of Artichoke (Cynara scolymus L.) in open field. Two treatments (apex removal and no apex removal) at three different planting times ($1^{st}$: Sep. 27, 2011, $2^{nd}$: March 29, 2012, and $3^{rd}$: Sep. 21, 2012) were tested using 'Green Globe' variety. There was no difference in the head characteristics and the number of harvested head between the treatments. The head weight was heavier in no apex removal of 242.7 g than the apex removal of 170.8 g. The yield also increased in no apex removal by 25% (1,249 kg/10a) compared to the apex removal of 997 kg/10a at the first planting time. At the second planting time, there was no difference in the head weights between the treatments. But the number of the harvested head was higher in no apex removal with 10.8 than 8.2 of the apex removal. The yield of no apex removal was 2,660 kg/10a, which was higher than 1,848 kg/10a of apex removal. At the third planting time, the head weight increased in no apex removal with 253.5 g compared to the apex removal with 218.7 g. The yield of no apex removal was 1,405 kg/10a, which was higher than 1,148 kg/10a of the apex removal. All the tests at 3 different planting times showed that the artichoke yields were higher in no apex removal than in apex removal. Therefore, it is desirable to cultivate artichoke without removing the apex for the higher yield and labor saving in open-field cultivation in Jeju island.
In the year 2013, onions cultivation in Jeonnam province suffered by frost-pillar damage. To reveal the aspects of the cause and outbreak, we surveyed those damaged areas. Usually the frost-pillar damage occurred in February. But the outbreak aspect is so unforeseeable. In 2013, the damage was shown as 10.6% in onion fields including paddy fields, but no damage was noticed in 2014. The damage was noticed as 77.8% in paddy fields and 30.1% in upland. And, by the difference of the onion transplanting date, it occurred as 0.7% by the middle of November to the early of November, 22% by the middle of November and 69.0% by the early of December. If one performed the supplementary planting at $3^{rd}$ week of February, the highest survival percent was observed as 53.3%. If the date is early, another frost-pillar damage was occurred. If it's late, the damaged plant was perished with dry. In any case, we found improper transplanting caused the yield decrease. Therefore, we recommend the timely transplanting is the most important way for the prevention of frost-pillar damage in the onion cultivation.

This study seeks to find an approach tool that allows to consider both ecological and visual aspect in developing an ecological space. Main objective of this study is to develop a planting design method in consideration of correlation between high visual preference and ecological diversity. To this end, an integrated method based on visual design principles and landscape ecological principles was developed first. Then study areas of 20 natural areas and 10 urban areas were selected to survey and analyze visual preference and ecological diversity. The result showed that scale is an element that has the greatest impact on visual preference. In areas with high ecological diversity, scale and connectivity had the biggest impact. In order to have a planting design desirable visually and ecologically based on these factors, it may be divided into following three issues.(1) In oder to increase ecological diversity in areas with strong visual preference, a priority should be given to introduce techniques promoting harmony among dominant species of various scales and other species. At the same time, there should be efforts to secure connectivity. (2) To improve visual preferences in areas with high ecological diversity, close-range, medium-range, and distant landscapes should be ensured by aligning colors and connectivity of various scales with other factors. (3) Also, a target area should be developed into a visually preferred and ecologically sound area by supplementing form and interlocking issues and identifying the spirit of the place. This study offers a way to improve visual preference and promote ecological diversity indeveloping ecological parks for the future. In landscape planning and design, it is important to secure various scales and connectivity as high-priority principles.
