  • A methodology to evaluate the performance analysis for small hydropower at existing water treatment facilities has been studied. It consists of two main parts; flow duration function which can describe existing water treatment facilities and performance analysis to estimate the output characteristics of small hydro power plants. The output performance characteristics for Mi-ho reservoir, Sum-kang low dam, Sun-cheon sewage treatment plant and Nam-dong purification plant were analyzed, using developed model. According to the simulation results, the predicted data show that the data were in good agreement with measured results. Also, it was found that the developed model in this study can be used to analyze the output characteristics for small hydro power at existing water treatment facilities.

  • The safety related heat exchangers have been evaluated for their performance during the operation of the nuclear power plant. The evaluation program for the safety related heat exchanger was developed in 2010 and used by KHNP based on EPRI TR-10739 algorithms. The spend fuel pool heat exchanger is one of the safety related heat exchanger in the nuclear power plant and also evaluated for their performance. Recently the performance evaluation for the spend fuel pool heat exchanger was not available because of the decreased heat in the spend fuel pool due to the long term overhaul. This paper analyzes the main cause of evaluation failure in the evaluation process and suggests the criteria for the heat exchanger performance evaluation during the long term overhaul.

  • Operation conditions of a reheat cycle gas turbine for a combined cycle power plant was analyzed. Based on measured performance parameters of the gas turbine, a performance analysis program predicted component characteristic parameters such as compressor air flow, compressor efficiency, efficiencies of both the high and low pressure turbines, and coolant flows. The predicted air flow and its variation with the inlet guide vane setting were sufficiently accurate. The compressor running characteristic in terms of the relations between air flow, pressure ratio and efficiency was presented. The variations of the efficiencies of both the high and low pressure turbines were also presented. Almost constant flow functions of both turbines were predicted. The current methodology and obtained data can be utilized for performance diagnosis.

  • For defect characterization in steam generator tubes in nuclear power plant, artificial neural network has been extensively used to classify defect types. In this paper, we study the effectiveness of Bagging for improving the performance of neural network for the classification of tube defects. Bagging is a method that combines outputs of many neural networks that were trained separately with different training data set. By varying the number of neurons in the hidden layer, we carry out computer simulations in order to compare the classification performance of bagging neural network and single neural network. From the experiments, we found that the performance of bagging neural network is superior to the average performance of single neural network in most cases.

  • The statistical characteristics of three year old American ginseng (Panax quinquefolium 1.) root yields from Lytton, British Columbia, Canada are presented. Ginseng root yield is related to plant density, with the highest yields generally obtained from the sites with the highest plant densities. However, these higher yields are made up of a larger proportion of smaller roots while the proportion of larger roots remains almost constant throughout the range of plant densities sampled. Further, it is suggested that relatively small samples can provide significant insight into crop performance and growth.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest the development direction for vendor management in plant construction. Therefore this research has proposed the integration management of vendor and information standardization. This research has proposed that plant industry association manage the basic information of vendor. And each company manage the performance evaluation of vendor's firm. Expecially, vendor management system should be developed by ISO information system.

  • in this paper, each methodology, e.g. normal single PID controller, direct synthesis method and inverse response compensator, will be compared to determine the best inverse response plant control method, by based on the appearance of the control performance and robustness from the simulation results. The flexibility of being able to maintain the system stability during the presence of plant model mismatch is one of the criteria to measure the robustness of overall control system. Once, plant has changed the condition, the model will need to be updated. Hence, the designed controller will not work properly. The caused of plant model mismatch is stayed by definition unknown but the most possib...

  • This paper describes the procedure of the basic design and transient variation of performance for a 1MWe large scale solar thermal power plant system (STPPS) by using the commercial software tool of TRNSYS. In order to simulate the transient variation of STPPS's performance, the basic design of STPPS are preceded by using the THERMOFLEX, Three different days of DNI weather data of Daejeon in 2005 are used to calculate the performance. For a high DNI data values, the general ing power of 1.1 MWe and flow rate of 1.4kg/s at $804W/m^2$ are good agreement with the basic design value of 1.0 MWe, 1.36 kg/s at $800 /m^2$. Using the other weather data of low and sudden decreasing DNI values, the results show that the output power and flow rate follow well the DNI variation. Based on the results, it is allowed to use the Program to estimate the performance of STPPS for variety of DNI data.

  • Integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) is an environment friendly method of using coal. Several commercial IGCC plants have been built worldwide during the past decade, and a domestic development project has also been launched recently. Operation and performance characteristics of a gas turbine in the IGCC plant deviates from those of original gas turbines due to several factors such as increased amount of fuel supply and integration with other components. In this study, performance of a gas turbine in the IGCC plant is analyzed considering its integration with the air separation unit (ASU). Influence of the degree of integration (split of air supplies to ASU from the auxiliary compressor and the gas turbine compressor) on the system performance is investigated. In addition, effect of modulating nitrogen return flow from the gasifier to the gas turbine on the operating characteristics of the gas turbine is examined.

  • The development of operational performance indicators is of utmost importance for nuclear power plants, since they measure, track, and trend plant operation. Leading indicators are ideal for reducing the likelihood of consequential events. This paper describes the operational data analysis of the information contained in the Corrective Action Program. The methodology considers human error and organizational factors because of their large contribution to consequential events. The results include a tool developed from the data to be used for the identification, prediction, and reduction of the likelihood of significant consequential events. This tool is based on the resilience curve that was built from the plant's operational data. The stress is described by the number of unresolved condition reports. The strain is represented by the number of preventive maintenance tasks and other periodic work activities (i.e., baseline activities), as well as, closing open corrective actions assigned to different departments to resolve the condition reports (i.e., corrective action workload). Beyond the identified resilience threshold, the stress exceeds the station's ability to operate successfully and there is an increased likelihood that a consequential event will occur. A performance indicator is proposed to reduce the likelihood of consequential events at nuclear power plants.
