  • This article proposes to examine how the study of failure differs from other technical subjects, and how to turn failure experiences to one's advantage. The authors surveyed the properties of failures in PBL (Project Based Learning) and also examined students' interest and understanding of failure, after introducing failure examples. To investigate how students communicate failure experiences to third parties, reports of the failure experience in PBL were evaluated. From above mentioned surveys, we get the following results. The typical causes of failure in educational institutions are lack of skill in manufacturing and inadequate planning, which conversely are minor causes of failure in the industry. A knowledge database on failure, employed commonly in industry, is not effective in PBL, because projects in educational institutes are usually changed every year. Case studies in failure can be approached from many points of view including causes, processes, effects and safety measures. While teachers should emphasize the notable points in the failure examples in introducing examples of specific topics in machine design, teachers should explain the multiple aspects in the failure examples to educate students about the complexity of actual accidents.

  • The human baby appears to be born with preexistent knowledge of language. This specialized neural structure in the brain awaits auditory experience with language to trigger it into functioning. The auditory-linked acquisition of language is a time-locked function related to early maturational periods in the infant's life. The longer auditory language stimulation is delayed, the less efficient the language facility will be. It is for these reasons that it is urgent to fight the hearing problems of children with all the skill, knowledge and insights of which we are capable, the so called 'rehabilitative process'. An understanding of the timetable and the origin of prenatal to early life development of auditory mechanism will help in planning the aural rehabilitation. Further interests and studies are needed to establish the systematic structure of rehabilitative audiology.

  • This paper presents an algorithm that can calculate the evaluation index of power system from the transfer capability point of view. The algorithm adopts a successive linear programming skill to solve an optimal solution. Two indices which are transfer margin index and economic matching index have been developed. Prior to calculating these indices, Maximum Load supplying Capability(MLSC) and Economic Load Supplying Capability(ELSC) are utilized as basic data. For man-machine interface, graphical user interface has been implemented so that an unified software package PSTCP(Power System Transfer Capability Program) has been developed. KEPCO systems planned up to 2006 year have been tested to show effectiveness and usefulness of the PSTCP for power system planning stages.

  • To verify the suitability of the Railroad safety requirements analysis, the actions of the function which it follows in a given operation condition are composed of the rule model or the state model. And it test must be possible. The subject of condition transfer in compliance with the transfer condition which is an event of system it will be able to accomplish the operation of system. However, tasks allocated to the actor are the duty which is added in organization. This time, the start of duty task is started in compliance with an external or internal condition. If there are 9 tasks which have one objective, the relationship among the previous and the current internal tasks and next tasks which will given is able to show in logical model. Thus when planning an organization, the integral part of class must include Task, Role and Position. And this time we make a series of outputs of examination of organizing model and examples to meet the capable skill.

  • The main purpose of this study is to provide basic data for the development of secondary Home Economics education curriculum and program by investigating the recognition perceived by Home Economics teachers. We have done statistical analyses of 237 questionnaires on the Home Economics teachers' recognition. The results are as follows: 1) The respondents evaluated the necessity of Home Economics education in secondary school, application of aquired knowledge and technical skill and learning by practical experience, highly. 2) As for the contents of Home Economics education curriculum, the respondents place a high value on the field of Meal Management, Child and Family Studies, Home resourse Management and Consumer life, Clothing Management, and House Planning and Management, in the order. 3) The most important educational concepts are knowledges and understanding for the human beings.

  • Traditional CVP (Cost-Volume-Profit) analysis employs linear cost and revenue functions within some specified time period and range of operations. Therefore CVP analysis is assumption of constant labor productivity. The use of linear cost functions implicity assumes, among other things, that firm's labor force is either a homogenous group or a collection homogenous subgroups in a constant mix, and that total production changes in a linear fashion through appropriate increase or decrease of seemingly interchangeable labor unit. But productivity rates in many firms are known to change with additional manufacturing experience in employee skill. Learning curve is intended to subsume the effects of all these resources of productivity. This learning phenomenon is quantifiable in the form of a learning curve, or manufacturing progress function. The purpose d this study is to show how alternative assumptions regarding a firm's labor force may be utilize by integrating conventional CVP analysis with learning curve theory, Explicit consideration of the effect of learning should substantially enrich CVP analysis and improve its use as a tool for planning and control of industry.

  • The purpose for this paper is to find the common characteristics of Korean traditional clothing, which is largely affected by Chinese arts and culture. There are many different theories about Faking Opera's orgine but an established character is an ensemble song and dance. It virtually represent overall Chinese arts. There are four characters in the Peking Opera ; Sheng, Dan, Jing, and Chuck. Sheng is divided into Nosheng, Sosheng, Musheng and Hongsheng based on their dramatic skills. Also, Sheng requires various acting skills : song, dance, dialogue, act and fighting skill. Peking Opera's stage costume was set up in Qing dynasty though it's style was embellished with mainly Ming dynasty's clothing style. The rankings and personalties of the role are strictly applied to decide what to wear. Artistic exaggeration, symbol and transfiguration, use of colors are equally important in planning the stage costume.

  • Ship's position data obtaining method is one of the very important factor in navigation. Nowadays, GPS(Global Positioning System) using the earth orbiting satellites are equipped and operated for the position finding. Because it provides more precise position information than other equipments and is very convenient for navigator. In this study, it is designed to develop the GPS simulator for everybody being able to practise the GPS operating skill like as navigation planning, navigation calculating etc. And also, it can be operated with personal computer without real GPS receiver. This simulation system is based on the real GPS receiver and built by the visual basic 5.0 program. And it displays the ship's position and navigating information and plots the ship's moving track on the screen in real time according as initial setup data-main engine's rpm, rudder angle, departure position and waypoint.

  • The establishment of minimally invasive surgery is a complex and difficult task. Video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS) refers to a minimally invasive surgical technique that represents a less invasive approach to thoracic surgery using thoracoscopy. For lung cancer or esophageal cancer surgery, planning and establishing a team for minimally invasive surgery for the first time is not a simple task. Technical advances in surgical devices and the enhanced skill of surgeons are cornerstones of the development of minimally invasive surgery. Here, we review the meaning of minimally invasive thoracic surgery and discuss how to establish a team approach for VATS procedures.

  • Formwork layout is perceived as important due to its strong tie to site works. But, most formwork is done manually and influenced by worker's skill and thus, a lot of construction errors occur. The introduction of BIM (Building Information Modeling) enables acquiring more precise information on the building shape, dimension, structure, etc. than 2D-based drawings and thus, the increased productivity, such as reduction of workload and work times, and the economic efficiency, such as reduction of formwork types and form dimensions with the consideration of constructability, are expected. This study reviewed the previous studies and formwork layout systems to derive this study's differentiations and factors to be first considered for formwork planning were derived by analyzing priorities against consideration factors. Last, a flow chart and algorithm were developed to apply the derived factors to the formwork layout module.
