  • This paper proposes an electronically beam steering array antenna, consisting of single fed active element and 4 parasitic elements, operating in 5.8 GHz ISM band. Beam steering can be achieved by controlling the reactance of the variable reactance control circuit connected to the load of the parasitic elements without using the high cost phase shifters. The proposed antenna realizes ${\pm}30^{\circ}$ beam scanning of E-plane and H-plane with the below -10 dB return loss in ISM band. The gain of the $6.18{\sim}7.53\;dBi$ in E-plane and $7.022{\sim}7.779\;dBi$ in H-plane is shown in the scanning range.

  • We designed a depth-encoding positron emission tomography (PET) detector by using a bottom and side readout method with a cross-arranged scintillator array. To evaluate the characteristics of the novel detector module, we used the DETECT2000 simulation tool to perform the optical photon transport in the crystal array. The detector module consists of an $M(column){\times}N(row)$ cross-arranged crystal array composed of M/3 sub-arrays consisting of $N{\times}3$ crystals. The second column of the sub-array is arranged perpendicular to the first and the third columns. The crystal is optically coupled to the crystals of the other columns; however, the surfaces between the crystals in the same column are treated as reflectors. A $6{\times}5$ crystal array consisting of two sub-arrays was considered for proof of concept. The two multi-pixel photon counter (MPPC) arrays are coupled to the bottom and one side of the crystal array, respectively. The x-y position is determined by the bottom MPPC array, and the side MPPC array gives depth information. All pixels in the x-y plane and the z direction were clearly distinguished.

  • This paper proposes the Focused beamforming to estimate the location of target residing near to the observation platform in the underwater environment. The Focused beamforming technique provides the location of target by the coherent summation of a series of incident spherical waveforms considering distinct propagation delay times at the sensor array. But due to the movement of the observation platform and the variation of the underwater environment, the shape of the sensor array is no longer to be linear but it becomes distorted as the platform moves. Thus the Focused beamforming should be peformed regarding to the geometric shape variation at each time. To estimate the target location, the artificial image plane comprised of cells is constructed, and the delays are calculated from each cell where the target could be proximity to sensors for the coherent summation. After the coherent combining, the beam pattern can be obtained through the Focused beamforming on the image plane. Futhermore to compensate the variation of the shape of the sensor array, the paper utilizes the Nth-order polynomial approximation to estimate the shape of the sensor array obeying the water pulley modeling. Simulation results show the performance of the Focused beamforming for different frequency bands of the radiated signal.

  • It is very difficult to form a desired complex sound field at a designated region precisely as an application of acoustic arrays, which is one of important objects of array systems. To solve the problem, a filter design method was suggested, which employed the concept of an inverse method using the acoustical holography based on the boundary element method. In the acoustical holography used for the source identification, the measured field data are employed to reconstruct the vibro-acoustic parameters on the source surface. In the analogous problem of source array design, the desired field data at some specific points in the sound field was set as constraints and the volume velocity at the surface points of the source plane became the source signal to satisfy the desired sound field. In the filter design, the constraints for the desired sound field are set, first. The array source and given space are modelled by the boundary elements. Then, the desired source parameters are inversely calculated in a way similar to the holographic source identification method. As a test example, a target field comprised of a quiet region and a plane wave propagation region was simultaneously realized by using the array with 16 loudspeakers.

  • A general linearly constrained adaptive array is proposed to improve the nulling performance. The nulling performance is examined in the array weight vector space. It is shown that the constraint plane is shifted to the origin perpendicularly by the gain factor such that the increase of the gain factor results in the decrease of the distance from the constraint plane to the origin. Thus the variation of the gain factor has an effect on the extent of orthogonality between the weight vector and the steering vectors for the interferences such that the nulling performance of the general linearly constrained adaptive array is improved by the gain factor. It is observed that the proposed adaptive array with an optimum value of the gain factor yields a better nulling performance in coherent signal environment and a similar nulling performance in noncoherent signal environment compared to the conventional linearly constrained adaptive array.

  • In this paper, the high Gain and the wideband microstrip patch antenna, which is applicable to 5 GHz band wireless LAN, is designed and fabricated. Firstly to widen the bandwidth of microstrip antenna, U-Slot in rectangular form patch is inserted and used the microstrip line-Coaxial probe feeding method. Secondly, the antenna gain is improved to be embodied in $2{\times}2$ array form. As a result, in this paper, is designed and fabricated 5 GHz Band wideband U-Slot $2{\times}2$ array patch antenna using microstrip line-coaxial probe feeder. The U-Slot $2{\times}2$ array patch antenna were fabricated on the PEC using press-technique that is based on the simulation results. And the Anritsu 37169A vector network analyzer has been used in measurement of a prototype antenna. As a result, it was measured that the superior characteristic of wideband showing approximately 1 GHz ($5.110 GHz{\sim} 6.142 GHz$) of input return loss (VSWR < 2) in resonant frequency of 5 GHz band. • Design methods are presented for an X-band traveling-wave slot array realized on a rectangular waveguide. An array of 21 longitudinal slots is realized on the broad wall of a rectangular waveguide. The squint of the antenna main beam is adjusted using the element spacing and the waveguide broad wall dimension. The excitation of the array is controlled by the slot offset from the waveguide center line Multiple I-plane steps are placed around last slot elements so that the second-order beam due to tile reflected wave Is minimized A waveguide-to-coaxial adapter Is designed for feeding the array antenna from a coaxial system. Results of the design show an outstanding performance of the antenna 17.1 dB gain. 36"beam 1111, and -21 dB maximum sidelobe level.evel.

  • In this paper, an array antenna is designed far base station of a street micro-cell in urban areas. It has a rectangular radiation pattern. The current distribution of the array is decided by using a modified Woodward-Lawson sampling pattern synthesis method. To confirm the realization of the array antenna with rectangular pattern, 12 array antenna with a planar type monopole fed by stripline is fabricated and measured. In the results of the measured values, H-plane pattern of the antenna nearly yields a rectangular radiation pattern.

  • A general linearly constrained broadband adaptive array is examined in the eigenvector space with respect to the optimal weight vector and the adaptive algorithm. The optimal weight vector and the general adaptive algorithm in the eigenvector space are obtained by eigenvector matrix transformation. Their operations are shown to be the same as in the standard coordinate system except for the relevant transformed vectors and matrices. The nulling performance of the general linearly constrained broadband adaptive array depends on the gain factor such that the constraint plane is shifted perpendicularly to the origin by an increase in the gain factor. The general linearly constrained broadband adaptive array is observed to perform better than a conventional linearly constrained adaptive array in a coherent signal environment, while the former performs similarly to the latter in a non-coherent signal environment.
