A wide-band E-plane notch phased array antenna having bandwidths of 3:1 and a scan volume of $\pm$ 45 is designed considering the active element pattern (AEP) with analysis of the full structure of E-plane notch phased array antenna. Using the numerical E-plane waveguide simulator as an infinite linear array in the broadside angle, the active reflection coefficient (ARC) of the unit element is optimized in the design frequency range. To evaluate the convergence of the AEP, the simulation of full array as changing the number array is investigated, and the minimum numbers of array that have characteristics similar to the AEP of an infinite array are determined.

In this paper, we propose a cylindrical active phased array antenna of Beam Steering Characteristics in the horizontal plane(H-plane) and vertical plane(E-Plane) on the cylinder form array structure. We design the bent dipole antenna of the cylindrical array structure adapted excellent mutual-coupling characteristics, designed and manufactured the cylindrical array antennas and power combiner/divider unit for power dividing and combining on the antenna. The radiating elements array spacing of Cylindrical array antenna were determined to avoid grating lobes at half power beam steering. Beam steering of the antenna was implemented with 6-bit phase shifter in the transceiver and have been designed based on the characteristics the antenna beam steering at -24 degrees to 24 degrees horizontal, vertical 0 degrees to 36 degrees beam steering. A cylindrical active phased array antenna that produced for verification the performance of the antenna are measured radiation characteristics in accordance with beam steering at L-Band.

The noise temperature of existing millimeter-wave receivers is already within two or three times quantum noise limit. One of practical ways to increase the observation speed of single dish radio telescope without longer integration time is use of multi-beam focal plane array receiver as demonstrated in several large single dish radio telescopes. In this context the TRAO (Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory), which operates a 143n Cassegrain radio telescope, is planning to develop a 4 x 4 beams focal plane array SIS receiver system for 86-115 GHz band. Even though millimeter-wave HEMT LNA-based receivers approach the noise temperature comparable to the SIS receiver at W-band, it is believed that the receiver based on SIS mixer seems to offer a bit more advantages. The critical part of the multi-beam array receiver will be sideband separating SIS mixers. Employing such a type of SIS mixer makes it possible to simplify the quasi-optics of receiver. Otherwise, an SSB filter should be used in front of the mixer or some sophisticated post-processing of observation data is needed. In this paper we will present a preliminary design concept and components needed for the development of a new 3 mm band multi-beam focal plane array receiver.

In this paper, two 4$\times$4 rectangular patch array antennas operating at 20 GHz are implemented for the satellite communication. The sixteen patch antennas and microstrip feeding line are printed on a single-layered substrate. The design goal is to achieve high directivity and gain by optimizing design parameters through permutations in element spacing. The spacing between the array elements is chosen to be 0.736$\lambda$. Numerical simulation results indicate that the HPBW(Half-Power Beam Width) of the 4$\times$4 patch array antenna is 18.78 degrees in the E-plane and 18.48 degrees in the H-plane with a gain of 17.18 dBi. Numerical simulations of a 4$\times$4 recessed patch array antenna yield a HPBW of 18.71 degrees in the E-plane and 17.82 degrees in the H-plane with a gain of 19.43 dBi.

A microstrip patch array designed at 35 GHz is described for use in the detection of the position of moving targets. To obtain wide detection range, the array is arranged to give a narrow beamwidth in the elevation plane and a wide beamwidth on the azimuth plane. This can be achieved by aligning the electric field plane of each element to the array axis. Employing a 3 dB-tapered feed network, the array has a side lobe level of less than -20 dB and wider azimuth beam width of 12.8$^{\circ}$ simultaneously.

The effect of a finite substrate on the radiation characteristics of a linear 7-element array antenna positioned along the E-plane is investigated. Active reflection coefficients and average active element patterns are simulated for various substrate sizes. The E-plane radiation pattern of a fully excited array for various scan angles is correlated with the active reflection coefficient and average acitive element pattern. The effect of E-plane substrate size on the radiation characteristics of a linear array along the E-plane is larger than that of H-plane substarte size.
This paper describes 3-dimensional volume array of 4 microphones including a reference microphone which is capable of imaging wideband noise source position in 2-dimensional image plane. The cross correlation function and corresponding imaging function between a reference microphone and other microphone, are derived as a function of noise source position. The magnitude of the imaging function gives noise source mapping in image plane. Since the image plane is selective from a rectangular and a cylindrical plane, noise source position information such as range and bearing relative to the array is identified very much easily. Simulation results for typical source configurations confirms the applicability of the proposed array in noise control field.
In this paper, two $4{\times}4$ rectangular patch array antennas operated at 20 GHz are implemented for the satellite communication. Two $2{\times}2$ sub-arrays are designed and used for the design of $4{\times}4$ patch array. The sixteen patch antennas and microstrip feeding line are printed on the single-layered substrate. The spacing between the array elements is chosen to be $0.736{\lambda}$. The HPBW(Half Power Beam Width) of the $4{\times}4$ microstrip patch array is 17.01 degrees in the E-plane and 17.71 degrees in the H-plane with a gain of 11.6dB in the experimental results. The HPBW of the recessed $4{\times}4$ microstrip patch array is 18.66 degrees in E-plane and 17.12 degrees in the H-plane with a gain of 12.55dB in the experimental results.

In this paper, we study the temperature change of a ${\mu}$-bolometer focal plane array with a capacitive transimpedance amplifier bias cancellation circuit. Thermal analysis is essential to understand the performance of a ${\mu}$-bolometer focal plane array, and to improve the temperature stability of a focal plane array characteristics. In this study, the thermal analyses of a ${\mu}$-bolometer and its two reference detectors are carried out as a function of time. The analyses are done with the $30{\mu}m$ pitch $320{\times}240$ focal plane array operating of 60 Hz frame rate and having a columnwise readout. From the results, the temperature increase of a ${\mu}$-bolometer in FPA by an incident IR is estimated as $0.689^{\circ}C$, while the temperature increase by a pulsed bias as $7.1^{\circ}C$, which is about 10 times larger than by IR. The temperature increase of a reference detector by a train of bias pulses may be increased much higher than that of an active ${\mu}$-bolometer. The suppression of temperature increase in a reference bolometer can be done by increasing the thermal conductivity of the reference bolometer, in which the selection of thermal conductivity also determines the range of CTIA output voltage.

In this paper, we have studied isolation enhancement using a suppression of surface wave to improve performance of array antenna. To reduce isolation between elements of array antenna, perfect magnetic conductor(PMC) and SOFT-surface is designed and located at center of ground plane, isolation and gain is simulated by commercial full wave simulator(HFSS). As a result, isolation of more than 40 dB and gain improvement of 2.2 dBi are obtained at E-plane array in case of both PMC and SOFT-surface. At H-plane array, air coupling is dominant compared to coupling by surface wave. It is conclude that this study is useful for design of compact array antenna and performance improvement of array antenna.
