  • Purpose When examining patients with digestive system Leakage, it is not easy to distinguish between bile leakage and bleeding only with Planar images. I would like to evaluate the utility of leakage of bile, confirmation of gastrointestinal bleeding and location discrimination using SPECT-CT. Materials and Methods SPECT-CT was performed according to the request of the reading room after acquiring Planar image for a total of 13 patients, including 8 patients suspected of bile leakage and 5 patients suspected of gastrointestinal bleeding, among patients visiting this specification went. We used Symbia T16 from SIEMENS and Discovery 670 from GE. Planar and SPECT-CT images were evaluated with a score of 1 to 10 by 4 experienced nuclear medicine doctors. Using the sensitivity and the specificity, the evaluation of the inspection by the ROC curve was carried out. The final diagnosis was confirmed by follow-up observation as a result of reoperative surgery. Results The sensitivity, specificity and accuracy of SPECT-CT were 91.7%, 100% and 94.2%, respectively. Planar images were 83.3%, 68.8% and 78.8%, respectively. Planar images showed lower diagnostic accuracy compared to SPECT-CT (78.8%, 94.2%, p<0.05). Moreover, the reliability of the diagnosis of SPECT-CT by ROC curve analysis showed a more useful result than the Planar image (p<0.05). Conclusion SPECT-CT had high sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of biliary leakage and gastrointestinal bleeding and location discrimination. When SPECT-CT is additionally performed together with Planar images, it may be considered to improve bile leakage and diagnosis of gastrointestinal bleeding patients and position discrimination evaluation. There is usefulness depending on the patient's age and position, but consideration of additional CT exposure may be done sufficiently.

  • This paper presents high efficiency control system of automotive 35W electronic ballast for high intensity discharge(HID) lamp using switching flyback converter with variable frequency. Considering performance, size and efficiency of ballast, the flyback converter is designed with planar transformer in converter stage. HID lamp demands a highly efficient ballast and very complex control circuitry that can control complex transient state for applying to automotive. The proposed electronic ballast system is composed of a flyback converter using planar transformer, a full bridge inverter, and a step up igniter. In this system, switching frequency of flyback converter is controlled by varying input voltage of HID ballast and the price and the size of HID ballast using planar transformer can be reduced. The performance and efficiency of the posed system are verified through various the experiment results.

  • Purpose : 99mTc DMSA renal scan have been widely used not only for tile evaluation of renal scars but also for the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis. Recent studies have shown SPECT images have higher accuracy than the planar images with some controversy. We evaluated the availability of the SPECT images adding to planar images for the diagnosis of acute pyelonephritis(APN) and renal scar in children with urinary tract infection (UTI). Methods : 130 children with UTI (260 kidney units) and 22 follow-up children (44 kidney units) were included between January 1, 1997 and July 31, 1999 at Ewha University Mokdong Hospital. Planar Anterior and posterior images and SPECT axial and coronal images of 99mTc DMSA renal scan were obtained with Starcam 4000-i U.S.A. GE at 3 hours after 99mTc DMSA I.V. injection. The data were analyzed by Chi square test after Yates's correction. Results : The detection rate of the acute pyelonephritis by SPECT images was 12.3$\%$ higher than that of planar images ($47.7\%\;vs\;35.4\%$) by the patient and 6.9$\%$ higher also ($31.9\%\;vs\;25.4\%$) by the kidney unit. 18 kidney units with negative planar images had focal defect in 10 kidney units (3.8$\%$) and multifocal defect in 8 kidney units (3.1$\%$) on SPECT images, but 1 kidney unit with positive planar image had negative SPECT image. SPECT images were superior to tile planar images in 17.3$\%$. identical in 82.3$\%$ and inferior in 0.4$\%$ to planar image. The detection rate of tile renal scars by SPECT images was 13.7$\%$ higher than planar images by the patient ($68.2\%\;vs\;54.5\%$) and 6.8$\%$ higher also ($43.2\%\;vs\;36.4\%$) by the kidney unit. SPECT images were superior to the planar images in 17.3$\%$ and identical in 82.3$\%$ to planar image. Conclusion SPECT images had shown higher detection rate and better image than planar images for the diagnosis of the acute pyelonephritis and the evaluation of the renal scars. (J. • Objective: The assessment of cortical integrity following renal injuries with planar Tc-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scintigraphy depends on measuring relatively decreased cortical uptake (i.e., split renal function [SRF]). We analyzed the additive values of the volumetric and quantitative analyses of the residual cortical integrity using single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) compared to the planar scintigraphy. Materials and Methods: This prospective study included 47 patients (male:female, 32:15; age, 47 ± 22 years) who had non-operatively managed renal injuries and underwent DMSA planar and SPECT imaging 3-6 months after the index injury. In addition to planar SRF, SPECT SRF, cortical volume, and absolute cortical uptake were measured for the injured kidney and both kidneys together. The correlations of planar SRF with SPECT SRF and those of SRF with volumetric/quantitative parameters obtained with SPECT were analyzed. The association of SPECT parameters with renal function, grades of renal injuries, and the risk of renal failure was also analyzed. Results: SPECT SRF was significantly lower than planar SRF, with particularly higher biases in severe renal injuries. Planar and SPECT SRF (dichotomized with a cutoff of 45%) showed 19%-36% of discrepancies with volumetric and quantitative DMSA indices (when dichotomized as either high or low). Absolute cortical uptake of the injured kidney best correlated with glomerular filtration rate (GFR) at follow-up (ρ = 0.687, P < 0.001) with significant stepwise decreases by GFR strata (90 and 60 mL/min/1.73 m2). Total renal cortical uptake was significantly lower in patients with moderate-to-high risk of renal failure than those with low risk. However, SRF did not reflect GFR decrease below 60 mL/min/1.73 m2 or the risk of renal failure, regardless of planar or SPECT (count- or volume-based SRF) imaging. Conclusion: Quantitative measurements of renal cortical integrity assessed with DMSA SPECT can provide more clinically relevant and comprehensive information than planar imaging or SRF alone.

  • A new approach has been proposed for the incremental analysis of the nonsteady state large deformation of planar anisotropic elastic-plastic sheet forming. A mathematical brief review of a constitutive law for the incremental deformation theory has been presented from flow theory using the minimum plastic work path for elastic-plastic material. Since the material embedded coordinate system(Lagrangian quantity) is used in the proposed theory the stress integration procedure is completely objective. A new return mapping algorithm has been also developed from the general midpoint rule so as to achieve numerically large strain increment by successive control of yield function residuals. Some numerical tests for the return mapping algorithm were performed using Barlat's six component anisotropic stress potential. Performance of the proposed algorithm was shown to be good and stable for a large strain increment, For planar anisotropic sheet forming updating algorithm of planar anisotropic axes has been newly proposed. In order to show the effectiveness and validity of the present formulation earing simulation for a cylindrical cup drawing and front fender stamping analysis are performed. From the results it has been shown that the present formulation can provide a good basis for analysis for analysis of elastic-plastic sheet metal forming processes.

  • A nondestructive evaluation technique for detecting internal defects of an hot forged Al-Si alloy part is established in this study. Ultrasonic characteristics of various internal planar defects are investigated by experiments for establishing a reliable test procedure. The effect of the angle between ultrasonic energy propagation directions and planar defects on the ultrasonic signal configuration is evaluated in the pulse-echo technique. A characteristic of ultrasonic signal for the internal planar defect located near the edge is also evaluated. The applicability of the through-transmission technique is also discussed. Reliability of the presented approach is validated by the destructive testing for more than 500 specimens.

  • This paper investigates the line dynamic forces connecting tugs and a floater, where the planar motion of the floater is due to the weather criteria during the position keeping of the offshore structure by tugs. The analysis situation consists of the position keeping states for the seabed mooring line connection work of the offshore structure at the offshore site. Specifically, the decision about the tug power capacity for the position keeping is essential and depends on the weather criteria, line characteristics, length of line, etc. The planar motion of the structure is constrained by the interference of the installation vessel's operational range, behavior of the underwater fairlead, and other surrounding structures. In this paper, the tug line forces and planar motion of an offshore structure are summarized dependent on the tug line length and line material characteristics in the states fora given floater draft and weather criteria. The tug line dynamic forces and planar motion evaluated here will be used to determine the proper tug power and clearance of an offshore structure.

  • In this paper, the synthesis method of multibeam radiation pattern with multi-directional beams and nulls is proposed. Genetic algorithm is applied for the optimization of amplitude and phase of the feeding signal into each element that is structured in planar array of single patch antenna with an arbitrary field distribution. To verify the validity of the proposed method, $2{\times}2$ planar array antenna is used for the measurement and the measured far field radiation pattern is compared with the simulation result. As a result, the synthesis of multibeam radiation pattern is implemented by the optimization of amplitude and phase of the feeding signal into each element of $8{\times}8$ planar array antenna system.
