An image authentication scheme for gray scale image through embedding a digital watermark by quantization of Integer Wavelet Transform (IWT) coefficients of the image is proposed in this paper. Proposed method is designed to detect modification of an image and to identify tampered location of the image. To embed the watermark mid-frequency band of a second level IWT was used. An approximation of the original image based on LL band was stored in LSB bits of the pixel data as a recovery mark for restoration of the image. Watermarked image has achieved a good PSNR of 40 dB compared to original cover image. Restored image quality was also very good with a PSNR of more than 35 dB compared to unmodified watermarked image even when 25% of the received image is cropped. Thus, the proposed method ensures a proper balance between the fidelity of the watermarked image and the quality of the restored image.
This paper presents a new graphical method for selecting a pair of optical glass and housing materials to simultaneously achromatize and athermalize a multilens system composed of many elements. To take into account the lens spacing and housing, we quantify the lens power, chromatic power, and thermal power by weighting the ratio of the paraxial ray height at each lens to them. In addition, we introduce the equivalent single lens and the expanded athermal glass map including a housing material. Even though a lens system is composed of many elements, we can simply identify a pair of glass and housing materials that satisfies the athermal and achromatic conditions. Applying this method to design a black box camera lens equipped with a 1/4-inch image sensor having a pixel width of $2{\mu}m$, the chromatic and thermal defocusings are reduced to less than the depth of focus, over the specified ranges in temperature and frequency.

In this paper, we propose a fast implementation of Bilateral filter for tone mapping algorithm. Bilateral filter is able to preserve detail while at the same time prevent halo-ing artifacts because of improper scale selection by ensuring image smoothed that not only depend on pixel closeness, but also similarity. We accelerate Bilateral filter by using a piecewise linear approximation and recursive Gaussian filter as its domain filter. Recursive Gaussian filter is scale independent filter that combines low cost 1D filter which makes this filter much faster than conventional convolution filter and filtering in frequency domain. The experiment results show that proposed method is simpler and faster than previous method without mortgaging the quality.

In this paper, we present research results of developing high performance scan conversion unit and implementing it on FPGA chip. To increase performance of scan conversion unit, we propose an architecture of scan converter that is a SIMD architecture and uses tile-based traversing method. The proposed scan conversion unit can operate about 124Mhz clock frequency on Xilinx Vertex4 LX100 device. To verify the scan conversion unit, we also develop shader unit, texture mapping unit and $240{\times}320$ color TFT-LCD controller to display outputs of the scan conversion unit on TFT-LCD. Because the scan conversion unit implemented on FPGA has 311Mpixels/sec pixel rate, it is applicable to desktop pc's 3d graphics system as well as mobile 3d graphics system needing high pixel rates.

In this paper, we present effective quantization noise reduction algorithm using signal adaptive filter and linear combination between blocks in multimedia system. In the proposed method, all of the blocks are classified into low frequency blocks, high frequency blocks, and midrange blocks according to DCT coefficients. Ringing artifacts are shown in high frequency blocks. So ringing artifact reduction algorithm is performed in high frequency blocks using a signal adaptive filter. And the blocking artifact reduction is performed by replacing the pixel value of blocky blocks using linear combination between blocky block and remote unblocky block. The simulation results shows better performance in respective of the subjective and objective image quality than the conventional method.
In this paper, we propose an improved image encryption and fault-tolerance decryption method using phase wrapping and phase encoding in the frequency domain. To generate an encrypted image, an encrypting key which denotes the product of a phase-encoded virtual image, not an original image, and a random phase image is zero-padded and Fourier transformed and its real-valued data is phase-encoded. The decryption process is simply performed by performing the inverse Fourier transform for multiplication of the encrypted key with the decrypting key, made of the proposed phase wrapping method, in the output plane with a spatial filter. This process has the advantages of solving optical alignment and pixel-to-pixel mapping problems. The proposed method using the virtual image, which does not contain any information from the original image, prevents the possibility of counterfeiting from unauthorized people and also can be used as a current spatial light modulator technology by phase encoding of the real-valued data. Computer simulations show the validity of the encryption scheme and the robustness to noise of the encrypted key or the decryption key in the proposed technique.

In this paper, we present an efficient algorithm for region analysis of business card images acquired in a PDA by using DCT and information pixel density. The proposed method consists of three parts: region segmentation, information region classification, and text region classification. In the region segmentation, an input business card image is partitioned into 8 f8 blocks and the blocks are classified into information and background blocks using the normalized DCT energy in their low frequency bands. The input image is then segmented into information and background regions by region labeling on the classified blocks. In the information region classification, each information region is classified into picture region or text region by using a ratio of the DCT energy of horizontal and vertical edge components to that in low frequency band and a density of information pixels, that are black pixels in its binarized region. In the text region classification, each text region is classified into large character region or small character region by using the density of information pixels and an averaged horizontal and vertical run-lengths of information pixels. Experimental results show that the proposed method yields good performance of region segmentation, information region classification, and text region classification for test images of several types of business cards acquired by a PDA under various surrounding conditions. In addition, the error rates of the proposed region segmentation are about 2.2-10.1% lower than those of the conventional region segmentation methods. It is also shown that the error rates of the proposed information region classification is about 1.7% lower than that of the conventional information region classification method.
Many digital watermarking methods have been proposed for copyright protection. Especially, methods to add a watermark in the frequency domain are often used. In those methods, only a few components of frequencies are changed according to watermark information, so that the pixel values of the image obtained by the inverse transform sometimes exceed the dynamic range and owing to the clipping process at this time watermark information is changed. This phenomenon even occurs without attacks like image processing. In this paper, we propose two methods to prevent loss of watermark information, applicable to such cases, it is said that one is the method called "inversion of increase and decrease" and another is "conservation of amounts of changes." We can extract the watermark information correctly under the condition of no attacks by using these proposed methods.

Irregular addressing scheme of gray scale control for the memory type flat panel plasma display is proposed in this paper. Opposed to the conventional addressing method. the scan electrodes are addressed in non-sequential manner. The addressing order for this irregular addressing is resolved to make the pixel duty factor above 90%. This addressing scheme can achieve the prolxJsed peformance regardless of the panel and cell structure and can be implemented without increasing the chive voltage, current or frequency .
The spatial resolution of multispectral images can be improved by merging them with higher resolution image data. A fundamental problem frequently occurred in existing fusion processes, is the distortion of spectral information. This paper presents a spatially adaptive image fusion algorithm which produces visually natural images and retains the quality of local spectral information as well. High frequency information of the high resolution image to be inserted to the resampled multispectral images is controlled by adaptive gains to incorporate the difference of local spectral characteristics between the high and the low resolution images into the fusion. Each gain is estimated to minimize the l$_2$-norm of the error between the original and the estimated pixel values defined in a spatially adaptive window of which the weight are proportional to the spectral correlation measurements of the corresponding regions. This method is applied to a set of co-registered Landsat7 ETM+ panchromatic and multispectral image data.
