  • This paper shows added mass and inertia can be acquired from the pure heaving motion and pure pitching motion respectively. A Vertical Planar Motion Mechanism (VPMM) test for the spheroid-type Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) was compared with a theoretical calculation and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis in this paper. The VPMM test has been carried out at a towing tank with specially manufactured equipment. The linear equations of motion on the vertical plane were considered for theoretical calculation, and CFD results were obtained by commercial CFD package. The VPMM test results show good agreement with theoretical calculations and the CFD results, so that the applicability of the VPMM equipment for an underwater vehicle can be verified with a sufficient accuracy.

  • In this study aerodynamic characteristics of guided gliding type ammunition were investigated by using a computational analysis and wind tunnel test. Missile DATCOM, a semi-empirical method, and a FLUENT, a computational fluid dynamics analysis program, were used for computational analysis. For a guided gliding type ammunition, aerodynamic characteristics were investigated by calculating lift force, drag force, pitching moment and etc. Aerodynamic characteristics of guided gliding type ammunition are completely different from those of conventional ammunition. The results obtained from the computer analysis are similar to those obtained from the wind tunnel test. Although the pitch moment values obtained by the semi-empirical method were slightly different from the wind tunnel test results, the overall computer analysis results showed trends and values similar to the test results. In this study, aerodynamic characteristics of guided gliding type ammunition were identified and it found that semi-empirical method can be applied to analyze the aerodynamic characteristic in the initial design of guided gliding ammunition.

  • In most researches on the ride comfort analysis of passenger vehicles, the flexibility of the vehicle body has been not considered as an important factor, because the resonance frequencies of the vehicle body related to pitching, yawing and rolling motions are below 10Hz while the resonance frequencies of the vehicle body related to the flexibility are above 20Hz approximately. Nevertheless, the paper shows that the consideration of the local flexibility (or local stiffness) of the 4 corners on which shock absorbers are mounted influences the ride comfort. A simple beam model is devised to qualitatively examine the effect of the change of the local stiffness of the vehicle body on the ride comfort. Based on the results obtained from the analysis of the one-dimensional model, multi-body dynamic analysis considering the flexibility of the vehicle body is performed using ADAMS and MSC/NASTRAN. Natural frequencies and mode shapes computed by MSC/NASTRAN are used as input data for multi-body dynamic analysis in ADAMS. Through simulations using ADAMS, it has been found that the ride comfort can be improved by changing the local stiffness of the vehicle body and that the simulation results agree with experiment results.

  • The purpose of this study was to figure out the suitable field standards for revegetation measures on cut-slopes in consideration of the environmental factors. The field survey was conducted from 1995 to 1996 on highway cut-slopes. The results obtained could be summarized as follows; The major revegetation measures surveyed were 5 major measures as a whole in descending order of seed-spraying measures, block-sod pitching measures, latticed block pitching measures, hydro-seeding measures with seed-fertilizer-soil materials, and several netting measures on highway cut-slopes. According to the analysis of the environmental factors, the plant coverage was affected several major environmental factors which were soil factors(soil hardness, soil texture, soil and rock condition), and site factors(slope gradient, slope length). From a viewpoint of optimum selection, the major 3 factors(soil factors, slope gradient factors, slope length factors) should be considered for selection of revegetation measures on highway cut-slopes.

  • This paper conducts parametric studies on flapping wing design, one of the most important design parameters of insect-mimicking aerial vehicles. Experimental study on wing shape was done through comparison and analysis of thrust, pitching moment, power consumption, and thrust-to-power ratio. A two-axis balance and hall sensor measure force and moment, and flapping frequency, respectively. Wing configuration is biplane configuration which can develop clap and fling effect. A reference wing shape is a simplified dragonfly's wing and studies on aspect ratio and wing area were implemented. As a result, thrust, pitching moment, and power consumption tend to increase as aspect ratio and area increase. Also, it is found that the flapping mechanism was not normally operated when the main wing has an aspect ratio or area more than each certain value. Finally, the wing shape is determined by comparing thrust-to-power ratio of all wings satisfying the required minimum thrust. However, the stability is not secured due to moment generated by disaccord between thrust line and center of gravity. To cope with this, aerodynamic dampers are used at the top and bottom of the fuselage; then, indoor flight test was attempted for indirect performance verification of the parametric study of the main wing.

  • In this study, weight carrying pattern analysis and comparison method of four foot region were suggested. We used three types of club(driver, iron7, pitching wedge). This analysis method can compare between top class golfer and beginner. And the comparison data can be used to correct the swing pose of trainee. If motion analysis system, which can measure the swing speed and instantaneous acceleration at the point of hitting a ball, is combined with this plantar foot force analysis method, new design development of golf shoes to increase comfort and ball flight distance will be available. 1. Regional change of force acting, in address, is evenly distributed on both feet. In back swing top, 76% on right foot, 75% on left foot as impact, and 86% on left foot as finish. As regional force acting, in address, pros get high marks on rare and inside of right foot and rare and outside for amateurs. In back swing top, it is higher as fore and inside of left foot, pros as rare part of right foot and amateurs as forefoot. In impact, it is higher for pros and amateurs in outside and rare part of left foot and fore and inside of right foot. In finish, for both pros and amateurs, it is higher for outside and rare parts of left foot. 2. For each club, forces are evenly distributed on both feet in address. In back swing top, the shorter a club is, the higher impact on right foot and the higher finish distribution on left foot. For all the clubs used, in each region, pros get higher on rare and inside of right foot and as amateurs on rare and outside of left foot in address. In back swing top, for all clubs, pros get higher on rare and outside of right foot as fore and outside for amateurs. In impact acting, for all clubs, rare and outside of left foot get higher. In finish, force concentrates on rarefoot. 3. On both feet force, right foot forces of amateurs is higher than those of pros in back swing top. In impact and finish, pros get higher on left foot.

  • This study analyzed the relationship between efficient pitchers and teams advancing to the postseason in Korean professional baseball through DEA. A total of 1,133 pitchers who threw more than one inning from the 2014 season to the 2018 season were selected for this study. For DEA analysis, input variables were selected as annual salary and inning output variables as Wins, Saves, and Holds and the number of efficient pitchers for each season was classified using the input-oriented BCC model. After that, it was divided into two groups based on joining the postseason or not, and the number of efficient pitchers was compared through a prop test. As a result of the analysis, the groups that advanced to the postseason in the rest of the season except for the 2014 and 2017 seasons had more efficient pitchers. Considering that the 2014 season recorded the highest WAR (Wins Above Replacement) at 183.56 compared to other seasons, most pitchers threw well, and in the 2017 season, they made more mistakes in pitching than in other seasons, but they performed well in batters. The results of this study have expanded the research field using efficiency analysis in professional baseball and can be used as useful data for practical research.

  • In this paper, numerical analysis method to perform linear dynamic analysis of bridge considering the road surface roughness and bridge-vehicle interaction when vehicle is moving on bridge is presented. The vehicle and bridge are modeled as three-dimension where contact length of tire and pitching of tandem spring are considered and single truck with 2-axles and 3- axles, and tractor-trailer with 5-axles are modeled as 7-D.O.F., 8-D.O.F., and 14-D.O.F., respectively. Dynamic equations of vehicle are derived from the Lagrange's equation and solution of the equation is obtained by Newmark-${\beta}$ method. The surface roughness of bridge deck for this analysis is generated from power spectral density (PSD) function. Beam element for the main girder, shell element for concrete deck and rigid link between main girder and concrete deck are used. The equations of the motion of bridges are solved by mode-superposition procedures. The proposed procedure is validated by comparing the results with the experimental data by Whittemore and Fenves.

  • In this paper, numerical calculations are performed to analyze the unsteady flow of NACA airfoil sections. In order to ease the flow computation for the fluid region changing in time, improve the quality of solution and simplify the grid generation for the oscillating foil flow, the computational method adopts a moving and deforming mesh with the multi-block grid topology. The multi-block, structured-unstructured hybrid grid is generated using the commercial meshing software Gridgen V15. The MDM (Moving & Deforming Mesh) and the UDF (User Define function) function of FLUENT 6 are adopted for computing turbulent flows of the foil in pitching motion. Computed unsteady lift and drag forces are compared with experimental data. in general, the characteristics of unsteady lift and drag of the experiments are reproduced well in the numerical analysis.

  • The motion of living organisms such as birds, fishes, and insects, has been analyzed for the purpose of the design of MAV(Micro Air Vehicle) and NAV(Nano Air Vehicle). In this research, natural motion was considered to be applied to the determination of the geometry and motion of AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle). The flapping motion of a number of hydrofoil shapes in AUV was studied, and at the same time, the optimization of the hydrofoil shape and flapping motion was executed that allow the highest thrust and efficiency. The harmonic motion of plunging and pitching of NACA 4 digit series models, was used for the numerical analysis. The meta model was made by using the kriging method in Optimization method and the experimental points of 49 were extracted for the OA(Orthogonal array) in DOE(Design of experiments). Parametric study using this experimental points was conducted and the results were applied to MGA(Micro Genetic Algorithm). The flow simulation model was validated to be an appropriate tool by comparing with experimental data and the optimized shape and motion of AUV was turned out to produce highest thrust and efficiency.
