  • Recently, the earthquake has been increasing a lot, damage of electric power facility has been serious as well. Nowadays, the importance of pipe support system such as Hanger, Brace, Snubber connecting the main structure have been emphasized. These devices can prevent pipe from damage so that reduce the vibration and shock acting on the pipe. For this reason, the FCD(Friction Concave Damper) was developed and has been expected to reduce the vibration on the pipe through the Friction Pendulum System. This paper was described the introduction of self-developed mechanical damper using the friction pendulum principle and the characteristic test was performed to verify the performance of the device. Additionally the test results have been compared with predicted F.A.P(FCD Analysis Program-self developed) results. As a result, reliability of design could be improved.

  • Various process piping usually carries out high flammable and explosible gas under high pressure and high temperature. Due to frequent change of design and structure it becomes more complicated and compactly located. The safety management level is relatively low since it is considered as simply designed component. In this study a safety assessment procedure is proposed for complicated piping system around a mixing drum in which natural gas and by-product gases were mixed. According to ASME code, pipe stress analysis was conducted for determining design margin at some key locations of the piping. These high stress locations can be used as major inspection points for managing the pipe integrity. Sensitivity analysis with outside temperature of the pipe and support constraint condition. Possible effect of hydroen gas to the pipe steel during the previous use of the by-product gas was also discussed.

  • City gas buried pipes are managed by corrosion protection to prevent corrosion. In the case of the press-in section, the double pipe and the main pipe may cause corrosion under the influence of stray current, which can shorten the life of the pipes. In addition, if the insulator is filled in the press-in section, the press-in section itself is a single structure, and can be directly affected by external impact, and when the surrounding ground subsidence occurs, the stress may be concentrated, resulting in serious consequences. In this study, a serration-type shock absorber in the form of a sliding support was proposed as a new buried double piping construction method using EPS. The serration-type shock absorber can contribute to the improvement of the integrity of the buried double piping, as it can utilize the gas piping's own ductility and stress distribution characteristics with proper anti-corrosion management and shock-absorbing material properties by preventing contact inside the buried double pipe. However, for application to ground piping, there remains a task to supplement the vulnerability against fire due to the characteristics of EPS materials.

  • The objective of this study was to evaluate structural safety according to environmental conditions acting on the piping of offshore structure and the motion of the structure. As for conditions acting on the piping, the maximum and minimum temperature conditions were used to analyze the design conditions of N2 generator. The motion of the structure was calculated and applied according to the DNV(Det Norske Veritas) rule. Each condition was combined and a total of 26 load combinations were constructed according to thermal load, motion load, and presence or absence of pipe support. Analysis was performed using a commercial program MSC Patran/Nastran. Thermal analysis was performed by applying the steady-state method, Sol 153. Thermal-structural coupled analysis was performed using Sol 101, a linear-static method. As a result of the analysis, the stress tended to increase when temperature inside the pipe was lower in Set 1 and Set 2, when temperature was higher in Set 3, and when the temperature difference between the inside and outside of the pipe in Set 4 was increased. However, the sum of stresses in the condition with only temperature load and the condition with only the kinetic load did not show the same value as the stress in the composite load condition of two loads. That is, the influence of the motion load varied depending on the direction of motion, the arrangement of pipes, and the position of the support. Therefore, it is necessary to comprehensively consider the size and direction of the motion load acting on the piping, the arrangement of the piping, and the location of the pipe supports during the design of piping.

  • In this study, we aimed to identify changes in fire resistance according to the type of sleeves used for pipe penetrations and to examine their accreditation of fire resistance performance and use them as basic data. The test results of fire resistance according to the type of sleeve used in non-metallic pipe facilities showed that the temperature on the support side was higher for sleeves with higher thermal conductivity. For the temperature on the surface of the pipes, in the case of galvanized steel plates, steel pipes, and structures without sleeves, the highest temperature was observed after the expansion of the firestop material for 46 to 53 minutes and then decreased. PVC sleeves showed a steady increase in temperature until 53 minutes, after which the temperature did not increase further. In addition, for non-metallic pipes, the effect of the type of sleeve on fire resistance is considered to be insignificant because the lower part (heating direction of the furnace) under the support structure is cut off to block the heat during the two-hour fire resistance test.

  • The purpose of this study is to clarify the difference between design and construction conditions based on theory for support (S) and infill (I) distinction and separation in long-life housing, and to search for future direction. To do this, the SI theory is summarized and the construction situation is examined in the demonstration house and the differences and limitations are analyzed. In order to realize SI separation in Korea, it is necessary to set the position of pipe shafts for sewage and drainage, buried in the structure and Ondol layer of the private pipes, buried various wires in the inner wall, and fixing the position of the inner wall.

  • Hull design for a small scale Oceanographic buoy will be introduced in this paper. The hull structure design, the connection methods between all parts will be discussed. We mainly introduce a design process of this buoy hull. We use walls with two layers and a radial bone structure to support the body to increase overall intensity and capacity to resist impact.

  • The propagation of pump-induced pressure pulsation in a reactor is important because of the potential for vibration and resultant damage of reactor internals. A hydrodynamic model has been developed to obtain the pressure fluctuation due to the operation of pumps in the annulus(between the core support barrel and reactor vessel of a pressurized water reactor) including the coolant inlet pipe. The mathematical analysis is formulated in accordance with the linearized Navier-Stokes equation by assuming a compressible, inviscid flow. Two regions are considered separately and by coupling the solutions of the inlet pipe and the annulus, the inlet nozzle pressure(pressure at pipe and annulus interface) is to be calculated without assumptions. The geometric parameter effect on the pump-induced pressure pulsation is evaluated. Comparison of predicted and measured inlet nozzle pressure values for each forcing frequency shows good order of magnitude agreement.

  • This paper uses a finite element based approach to provide a comprehensive understanding to the behaviour and the design performance of buried uPVC pipes with different diameters. It also investigates pipes with good and poor haunch support and proposes minimum safe wall thicknesses for these pipes. The results for pipes with good haunch support showed that the maximum pipe wall stress and deformation increase as the diameter increased. The results for pipes with poor haunch support showed an increase in the dependency of the developed vertical displacement on the haunch support as the diameter or the backfill height increased. Additionally, poor haunch support was found to increase the soil pressure, with the effect increasing as the diameter increased. The design of uPVC pipes for both poor and good haunch support was found to be governed by critical buckling. A key outcome is a new design chart for the minimum wall thickness, which enables the robust and economic design of buried uPVC pipes. Importantly, the methodology adopted in this study can also be applied to the design of flexible pipes manufactured from other materials, buried under different conditions and subjected to different loading arrangements.

  • The present study proposes a new structure for a heat spreader which could embody a thin thickness, any shapes and high heat flux per unit area. It is on the structure for the formation of vapor passages and the support of the case of the heat spreader. A screen mesh is used as the one. To verify the validity of the one, the heat spreader of 1.4mm and 1.6mm thickness was made with 14 mesh and 100 mesh number. In this paper, The performance test of heat spreader conducted in order to compare with the heat transfer performance of conventional heat pipe. As the results, The heat spreader has excellent cooling and heat transfer performance.
