This study was carried out to provide a basic data for preservation of Pinus desiflora forest as cultural landscape forest by analyzing characteristics of plant community of P. desiflora forest in Geumjeongsan(mountatin) in Busan city. In order to analyze plant community of P. densiflora in Geumjeongsan, we set up 10 study plots inside and 8 plots outside of Geumjeongsansung(mountain fortress, hereinafter 'Sansung')(unit area: $400m^2$), a total of 18 plots. TWINSPAN analysis divided these 18 study plots into 6 communities which are Querqus serrata-P. desiflora community, P. desiflora community, P. desiflora-Q. serrata community, P. thunbergii-P. densiflora community, P. densiflora-P. thubergii-Q. acutissima community, and P. densiflora-Platycarya strobilacea community. Importance Percentage (I.P.) of each area and DBH class distribution of main species showed that P. densiflora community would succeed to Q. serrata community or C. tschonoskii community. Analysis on tree age found out that communities in the Sansung were 32~37 years old and those outside the Sansung were 44~57 years old. Shannon's species diversity index ranged from 0.4826 to 1.2499. Regarding correlation between species, P. densiflora had negative correlation with Styrax japonica. Based on abovementioned result we expected ecological succession from P. densiflora community to Q. serrata community inside of the Sansung. Outside the Sansung, succession from P. densiflora-P. thunbergii community to C. tschonoskii-Q. serrata community was expected. In order to manage P. densiflora forest as cultural landscape forest, Q. spp in the understory and shrub layer and deciduous broad-leaved arboreal trees should be managed. Tree crown management of deciduous broad-leaved trees in competition with P. desiflora, is also required.
A phytosociological study of forest vegetation was carried out in mt. komdan in the period from October 7,1985 to October 15 1989. The forst vegetation could be classified into 7 communities ; quercus monbolica, pinus densiflora, quercus dentata, pinus koraiensis, larix leptoletsis, pinus rigida, castanea creaneta. The principal forest community in mt. komdan-the quercus mongulica community- was distributed mainly at the altitude of 400~600m and the importance value was 187.1. The pinus desiflora community was 137.9. since pinus koraiensis, larix laptolepsis, pinus rigida, castanea creanata, etc. werw planted in this region, It seems that it was frequently disturbed by human interference, especilly, the destruction of the vegetation in the recreation ground of paldang, the regions around the village of hasangok-ri and the main routes for mountain climbing appeared severely.

As science and technology has developed, human could be flourished especially at the aspect of agriculture and medicine. However, the traditional knowledge of them has stopped being used, which leads to extinctions of it. Korea National Arboretum had surveyed the ethnobotanical uses of Gangwon-do from 2006 to 2017. 522 taxa were defined as ethnoplants through 21469 sheets thanks to 355 respondents who composed 279 females, 73 males and three refused to answer. Analysis of ethnoplants had conducted to provide the excavation of the new plants for industries of agriculture and medication, as well as the evidence for protection of TK and benefit derived from it. Aster scaber Thunb. had been found as the most citated taxa by 0.6591 RFC figure, Pinus desiflora Seibold & Zucc. was found to have the extensive categories of use. Aralia elata (Miq.) Seem. showed the highest figure of CI value. In the index of RI, Pinus desiflora Seibold & Zucc. appeared again, as well as CV, cultural value. For evaluation of the usages of ethnoplants IAR figures are analyzed. The fiber has shown the biggest figure of IAR, despite the dyes are placed the smallest figure.
Soil condition, total number of bacteria, soil amylase activity and microbial biomass $(CO_2-C)$ were measured at soil of different forest types. And the difference of the allelopathic effect was determined between fresh leaf extract of Quercus acutissima and Pinus rigida to the bacteria isolated from soil of different forest types. 1. Total number of bacteria in Carpinus laxiflora forest soil was 4~7 times larger than that in pinus desiflora forest soil. 2. Soil amylase activity was positively correlated with total number of soil bacteria and soil organic matter content. The amylase activity at F layer was 4~5 times larger than that at H layer, and that at H layer was 2~4 times larger than that at A layer. 3. Seasonal changes of microbial biomass showed a peak in summer, and vertical distribution of microbial biomass decreased with increasing soil depth. The microbial biomass in Pinus densiflora forest soil was larger than that in Quercus serrata forest soil. 4. Fresh leaf extract of Pinus rigida and Quercus acutissima showed an acceleration or inhibition effect on the growth of soil bacteria, and that of !. acutissima inhibited larger number of soil bacterial strains than that of P. rigida. 4.2% and 25% of soil bacterial strains isolated from soil of P. rigida and Q. acutissima forests were inhibited by fresh leaf extract of P. rigida and Q. acutissima, respectively.
The mycelia were directly isolated from eight species of fungal basidiocarps, confirmed to the ectomycorrhiza in the roots from the fields(forestry); Suillus bovinus, Paxillus involutus, Lactarius hysginus, Russula fragilis, Lepista nuda, Lyophyllum shimeji, Tricholoma matsutake, and Russula integra. The mycelia were pure-cultured with several transferring in various agars, and inoculated to the roots of pine(Pinus densiflora) seedling by in vitro method. After ten months growth under artificially aseptic conditions, all pine seedlings inoculated were stimulated at the growth-height, whereas those not inoculated were nearly dead. Also, the ramifications of ectomycorrhizal pine roots formed in the synthetic in vitro systems and were various according to the different mycelia. Synthesis of ectomycorrhiza were clearly confirmed in ten months growth, but not distinguished at this moment. It was clearly proved that the mycelia isolated caused the ectomycorrhizae in the roots of pine seedlings.
Eleven plots(10m*10m) were established in Pinus densiflora forests and analized in with TWINSPAN and DCA techniques, to study the comparison of the structure of plant community by soil depth in Ulsan Grand Park. As a result of this analyusis, the communities were divided into two groups : Community B which have shallow one. Community A showed climatic climax which have proceeded from Pinus densiflora to Quercus variabilis, Castanea crenata, Platycarya strobilacea, and at last to Carpinus laxiflora. Community A showed climatic climax which have proceeded fro, Pimus densiflora to Quercus variabilis, Castanea crenata, Platycarya strobilacea, and at last to carpenus laxiflora. Community B showed edaphic climax in sere of Pinus desiflora. The diffrernce of the growth of tree height was showed significantly between two communities. The sample tree aged 30 in Community A was 8.50m high and the sample tree aged 35 in Community B was 3.80m high. Community A was better than Community B in soil characteristics and species diversity indicies.
Methyl trans-cinnamate is a significant flavor compound of Tricholoma matsutake. Attempts were made to produce this compound by culturing the mycelium using submerged culture. No methyl trans-cinnamate could be detected when the mycelium was cultured in the basal liquid medium. However, the addition of Pinus desiflora extracts to the medium, methyl trans-cinnamate was largely produced. To find out compounds or fractions inducing methyl trans-cinnamate, dichloromethane fraction obtained from the wood extracts of P. densiflora was subjected to column chromatography. Three sub-fractions were obtained from the $CH_2CI_2$ fraction. Submerged cultured mycelium treated with sub-fraction 1 has the highest content of methyl trans-cinnamate. Maximum methyl trans-cinnamate $(470.2{\mu}g/g)$ was obtained when the first sub-fraction of dichloromethane fraction of the P. densiflora wood extracts was added to the medium. This indicates that wood extracts of P. densiflora contains inducer of the methyl trans-cinnamate production in the T. matsutake submerged culture.
This study on Pinus desiflora in Kangwon Province has been performed for the purpose of classifying its growth area by geographical factors. To classify its growth area, the basic data which had were the measured values for annual ring width from cores were used. Individual variations in the measured values were removed through the standardization. Regional mean chronologies were estimated from the standardized values. The growth area was classified by the cluster analysis on the basis of the regional mean standardized indices. The results of this study shown that annual growth patterns to be clustered similar to geographical distribution in Kangwon Province. And the regional variations of annual growth patterns in the western part of Kangwon province were greater than those in the eastern part of Kangwon province.
Recognizing the importance of the multi-purpose management of natural deciduous forest, this study was carried out to implement the partial cutting for stand regulation to examine agroforestry practice as well as other concurrent forest resource production, and to investigate the changes in stand characteristics and understory vegetation in a silvopasture practiced natural deciduous stand in the Research Forest of Kangwon National University, Korea. Three different partial cutting intensities (68.1%, 48.6%, and control) were performed in the unmanaged natural deciduous stand in order to improve the growing condition, especially light condition, for introducing some commercial herbaceous plants on the forest floor to establish agroforestry and/or silvopastoral system. Dominated by Quercus varibilis Blume (50.5%) and Quercus dentata Thum. ex Murray (42.6%), eight tree species were composed of the study forest, including poles of Pinus desiflora Siebold & Zucc and sapling of Pinus Koraiensis Siebold & Zucc. The total of 87 (13 tree species, 12 shrub species, 58 herbaceous species, and 4 woody climbers) vascular plant species were observed in study site after partial cutting treatments, while that of before partial cutting was 53 species (14 tree species, 8 shrubs species, 30 herbaceous species, and 1 woody climbers). The proportion of life form spectra in plot B was Mi (28.4%)-Na (23.0%)-Ge (17.5%)-Ch (10.8%)-He (9.5%)-MM (6.7%)-Th (4.1%). No statistically significant differences were observed in changes of life form spectra from before to after partial cutting treatment and among partial cutting gradients in this study. Partial cutting and scratching for forage sowing made plants invade easily on the forest floor, and light partial cutting (LPC) plot (500 stems/ha) had much higher number of undersory species than those of heavy partial cutting (HPC) plot (310 stems/ha) and control plot (1,270 stems/ha).

We investigated antioxidant capacity in leaves of 14 coniferous trees under field conditions. We focused on understanding the species characteristics on antioxidant systems and screening the coniferous tree species with the best antioxidant systems using their characteristics. The antioxidant capacity of 14 coniferous trees was divided into three groups. First group was Thuja orientalis and Chamaecyparis obtusa and those species had the highest content of ${\beta}$-carotene and xanthophyll. Second group, C. obtusa and Juniperus chinensis, used antioxidant enzymes to mitigate stress. C. obtusa represented high activity at superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione reductase (GR), and peroxidase (POD), and J. chinensis exhibited high activity at SOD, POD, catalase (CAT). Third group employed antioxidant such as ascorbic acid and ${\alpha}$-tocopherol. The antioxidant content of T. orientalis was the highest while that of Pinus parviflora and C. obtusa were the lowest. Few species belonged in three groups simultaneously, and most species belonged in at least one or two groups. In summary, we proposed that C. obtusa and T. orientalis had the highest antioxidant capacity while P. parviflora and P. desiflora for. multicalus had the lowest antioxidant capacity.
