In this study the effect of the content of $TiB_2$ on wear properties was investigated. $Cu-TiB_2$ composites have been fabricated by hot extrusion. Sliding wear tests were peformed by a pin-on-disk type wear test machine under dry condition and loads varied with from 20N to 80N at sliding speed 3.5Hz. The test results showed that the wear losses and the friction coefficients decreased with increasing $Cu-TiB_2$ volume fraction and increasing the size of $Cu-TiB_2$ particle. Wear property of $10{\mu}m,\;5 vol\%\; TiB_2$ specimen was excellent all of the wear specimens. It is thought that the increase of plastic flow resistivity due to uniform distribution of $10{\mu}m,\;5 vol\%\; TiB_2$ wear specimen would improve wear property. The worn surface and wear debris were examined by optical microscope and scanning electron microscope.

The sliding wear characteristics of the crane sheave were investigated using a pin-on-disk rig tester The experiment was conducted using a high carbon steel wire that was upper material, also carbon steel castings and carbon steel for machine structural use that was disk material. There are various operating conditions in this work. At the room temperature, we carried out the wear test under a grease lubrication. The results of wear test showed that carbon steel for machine structural use have lower wear volume, also the wear curves are linearly increased with increasing of sliding velocity The wear mechanism of a disk is the abrasive, adhesion, and fatigue wear under lubrication.

This study provides the finite-element (FE) squeal-model predicting friction-induced noise with respect to several friction materials that have different friction characteristics. The friction curve and the corresponding friction noise were measured for four friction materials (Cu, Ni, Al, Mg) using the pin-on-disk and reciprocating friction system. The slope of the friction curve linearized at the sliding velocity was applied to the FE model. The unstable modes in the complex eigenvalue analysis were shown to correspond to the squeal frequencies that existed in the experiment.

The friction and wear behaviors of WC/C multilayer coating were investigated by using a pin on disk type tester. The experiment was conducted by using silicon nitride (S $i_{3}$$N_{4}$) as a pin material and WC/C multilayer coating on bearing steel (STB2) as a disk material, under various environments that are atmospheric conditions of high vacuum( 1,3$\times$10$^{-4}$ Pa), medium vacuum( 1.3$\times$10$^{-l}$Pa). ambient air( 10$^{5}$ pa)(3 types) and relative humidity(2~98%) conditions. The results showed that WC/C coating fracture was suddenly increased with increasing degree of vacuum, because of high adhesion. So, WC/C coating could not be displayed their ability as solid lubricant. WC/C coating could be displayed better abilitv as solid lubricant with increasing relative humidity. because of oxide film, size and shape of wear debris. The friction coefficient and specific wear rate became better about RH 50%.%.
A pin-on-disk test is performed to measure the wear volume of a ductile cast iron (DCI) roll when it wears down using a high carbon steel and two alloy steels at different sliding velocities between the roll and the material (steel). Normal pressure is set as constant and test temperatures are 400, 500 and $600^{\circ}C$. In addition, thermal softening behavior of the DCI roll is examined using a high-temperature micro-hardness tester and the surface hardness variation of the DCI roll is expressed in terms of temperature and heating time. Based on experimental data, a wear coefficient used in Archard's wear model for each material is obtained. The wear volume is clearly observed when the test temperature is $400^{\circ}C$ and sliding velocity varies. However, it is not measured at temperatures of $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$ even with variations in sliding velocity. From the optical photographs of the pin and disk, the abrasive wear is observed at $400^{\circ}C$ clearly, but no at $500^{\circ}C$ and $600^{\circ}C$. At higher temperatures, the pin surface is not smooth and has many tiny caves distributed on it. It is found that wear volume is dependent on the carbon contents rather than alloy contents. Results also reveal that the variations of wear coefficients are almost linearly proportional to the carbon contents of the material.
Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) was crosslinked in the melt state to enhance wear resistance, Dicumyl peroxide (DCP) and triallyl cyanurate (TAC) was used as a crosslinking agent and a promoter, respectively. With increasing amount of DCP and TAC used, gel content of crosslinked UHMWPE (XUMPE) increased, while the melting temperature, crystallizaiton temperature, crystallinity, and tensile properties decreased. The results of pin-on-disk wear test and ball-on-disk test with small applied load showed reduced wear volumes of XUMPE from that of the unmodified UHMWPE. As the wear mechanism effected in the experimental condition of this study was thought to be deformation rather than adhesion or fatigue, a new parameter, the ratio of maximum contact stress to yield stress, was proposed to correlate well with observed wear resistance. In ball-on-disk wear test with larger applied load, XUMPE showed higher wear volumes than that of the unmodified UHMWPE which were accompanied with increased friction coefficients and surface roughness of the wear tracks. When contact stress was well above yield stress, the failure of XUMPE, as well as deformation, was thought to be much accelerated.

At the room temperature, we carried out the wear test under a grease lubrication and dry condition. For the specific wear rate of annealed-casted, the wear resistance was increased with decreasing diameter of wire. The wear of a wire and a disk have a different mechanism, the one is the abrasive wear due to fatigue wear under lubrication, another is the adhesion wear under dry condition.

The friction and wear behaviors of magnetron sputtered MoS$_2$ films were investigated through the use of a pin and disk type tester. The experiments were performed for two kinds of specimens (ground (Ra 0.5 $\mu\textrm{m}$) and polished (Ra 0.01 $\mu\textrm{m}$) substrates) under the following operating condifions : linear sliding velocities in the range of 22~66 mm/s (3 types), normal loads varying from 9.8~29.4 N(3 types) and atmospheric conditions of air, medium and high vacuum (3types). Silicon nitride pin was used as the lower specimen and magnetron sputtered MoS$_2$ on bearing steel disk was used as the upper specimen. The results showed that low friction property of the MoS$_2$ films could be identified in high vacuum and the specific wear rate in air was much higher than that in medium and high vacuum due to severe oxidation. It was found that the main wear mechanism in air was oxidation whereas in high vacuum accumulation of plastic flow and adhesion, were the main causes of wear.

The effect of texture of an extruded OFHC Cu rod on its sliding wear has been explored. Disk specimens with three different orientations were machined from the Cu rod for the wear test; surfaces of the disk were perpendicular ($0^{\circ}$), inclined with a specific angle ($45^{\circ}$), and parallel ($90^{\circ}$) to the extrusion axis of the rod. The texture was analyzed using an X-ray goniometer by measuring {111}, {200}, and {220} pole figures of each specimen. The analyzed texture was correlated with wear-test results of the Cu specimen. Dry sliding wear tests were performed at room temperature using a pin-on-disk wear tester against an Al2O3 ball. Applied load, sliding distance, sliding speed were fixed as 20 N, 200 m, and 0.5 m/sec, respectively. The $45^{\circ}$-inclined (to the extrusion axis) disk specimen showed the lowest wear resistance with the least data scatters. It has been found that distribution of cube texture strongly influences wear rate of the extruded Cu rod.
